My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Let me preface this by saying: this is not normally the type of book that I would pick up, but I am so glad that I did! If you are doubting whether or not it would be a good read, let me tell you that it is an almost nostalgic reminder of everything about your teenage years. When I look back on High School, I tend to remember mostly the good. This book brought me back to my hometown city, the drama, the popular vs the unpopular, and the confusing emotions that go with adolescence.
Krysten did a GREAT job with the characters and the writing in this story. Being a Michigander myself, I was happy to see places that I recognized. Hadley is the majority of us – trying to find her way, figure out how to navigate life after her best friend moves away, and getting uprooted just when she thinks she has things slightly figured out. Charlotte is the quiet friend, but always loyal – even when she shouldn’t be. Simone and her group are the clique everyone wants to be in until they realize that even the clique isn’t happy and they are better off doing what makes them happy rather than trying to impress the masses.

I think this book is perfect for those getting ready to go into high school or the ones who are still navigating it. I’m excited to read the next installment and see what happens as they keep growing.
