Fall to Pieces by Becky Flade – Review by Dani Dando

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’ve got to say, from the first few pages of this book I did not think that I was going to like Lexi, I found her character too harsh and brash and a little bit off-putting, she jumped off the page a bit like a punch to the face. But as the story went on I guess I softened towards her, and as I learnt all the things she had been through, her feisty and blunt behaviour made sense.
I say all this because, honestly, good or bad reaction to a character, if a writer can really make me feel like they are real, then hats off to them and Flade’s characters felt real. Flawed and frustrating, annoying and harsh to each other but also resilient in the face of all the crap that gets thrown at them.

Lexi and Xavier (Did make with think of Professor X hehe) must work together to solve the murder of a boy but both of them are playing secret cards pretty close to their chests, especially Xavier whose real purpose for sticking so close to Lexi is making sure that she is doing her job properly. In spite of all the secrets and suspicions the pair find themselves developing feelings for each other, which means that things get pretty tangled and messy quickly.

Thoroughly enjoyed this read. Flade is pretty darn awesome at this whole penmanship malarky. Right from the first sentence, I was gripped by her characters and by the world she has created. A fabulous mystery and romance for you to sink your teeth into.
