Deadly Sommer (Nora Sommer Caribbean Suspense Book 1) by Nicholas Harvey – Review by Brittney Brady

Deadly Sommer (Nora Sommer #1)Deadly Sommer by Nicholas Harvey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a great book for lovers of suspense and thrillers. There was quite a lot of intrigue surrounding the kidnapping that played out well. The only reason I didn’t give it more stars is that it read more like a sequel than the first in a series. There were some backstories referenced that seemed like something that would have happened in a previous book that were not really explained or touched on.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Phenomenal, edge of your seat read. Had me hooked from page one & the initial kidnapping…First time reading author Nicholas Harvey, however it won’t be my last!! Easy 5 stars! Can’t wait for Nora’s next adventure! Will go back & read the prequel, Finding Sommer, as well as the AJ Bailey Adventure Series.

Nora Sommers is settling in as a tough as nails heroine; newly assigned consulate to the Cayman police force, when her & her new partner are swept into a complex plot set in motion by a grieving husband, while on patrol. Full of twists & turns, Nora raises against the clock in order to save the hostage & solve the crime.

Action packed & full of suspense, I found that I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough!! Thoroughly enjoyed the sprinkle of humor and the tropical island references too! Highly recommend

Deadly Sommer is a book that I would pick up from the bookshelf because the cover looked very intriguing. The read was great, and very suspenseful. I enjoyed it being set in such a beautiful place, and it really sets the mood for the rest of the novel and a complete game of cat and mouse. I would recommend reading this book and would love to read more by this author. The main character, Nora will do whatever it takes to save a young girl. It kept me turning the pages wanting more.

This is a wonderfully written collection of six books in one boxset. Each book in this collection is just as good as the last. I’m a huge fan of this author and her style of writing along with amazing characters make for a epic story. This is one of those series that I will definitely be rereading in the future. This is a collection of six men they related as brothers but are bound by blood and then there’s the six women who all have their own secrets. And the father who is dangerous and out to get everyone . This collection is one you don’t want to miss .I highly recommend reading this collection To find out what happens next.

This is an enjoyable story. At first it was a little slow but it was all being built up slowly. I really liked meeting the characters. Watching Bree go through all the different stages in her young life. Men, breakups, friends, work and family…it is all in here. The male counterparts are Interesting. Of course my favorite is the guy who goes for longevity instead of swiftness.

Overall this story had me becoming embroiled in Brees life. I came to care, worry and admire her as the story moved along. Her friends are wonderful but she really stole the show. My only issue was the whole race card that started being thrown about later in the book. I didn’t like/love her or the story because of her race. I liked her for the person and the story because it was told well and made me admire the characters. Maybe it is an important factor for some but it was not for me

The King of Hearts

Called on the tarts,

And beat the Queen full sore;

The Queen of Hearts

Nearly fell apart

But vowed she’d be beaten no more.

The Queen of Hearts,

She played her cards,

While poisoning the wine away;

And fed it to every King of Hearts

Who enjoyed chasing

Their queens like prey.

Losing the game of Stolen Hearts is how she gets them to play: the cads, the wife-beaters, the white-slavers. Predators turned into easy prey. It’s no accident that she’s known as the Queen of Hearts by most males in town and she won’t rest until they all pay for their crimes.

Welcome to Nursery Crimes, where tales are twisted and happily ever afters are not always guaranteed….

Queen of Hearts is the story of a victim turned avenger of all women suffering under the rule of a cruel and unfair patriarchic society–and the unexpected love that finds her.

The success of her mission and her own safety now rides on her new partner, but while she trusts him in her quest for justice, trusting him with her heart is a whole other story.

Bound by a common goal and their love for each other, they will either put an end to the crimes against women in town or die trying.

Natalina Reis is an international bestseller who wrote her first romance at the age of thirteen. Since then she has published many romances that defy the boundaries of her genre. She enjoys writing all kinds of rebels and outcasts into her stories and she always roots for the underdog.

Natalina doesn’t believe you can have too many books or too much coffee. Art and dance make her happy and she is pretty sure she could survive on lobster and bananas alone. When she is not writing or stressing over lesson plans, she shares her life with her husband and two adult sons.

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove Book 1) by Shannon Nikole – Review by Lisa Helmick

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove #1)Finding Starlight by Shannon Nikole
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really loved this story a lot! It pulls on the old heart strings! I normally shy away from books like this. This one I gave a go and was happy I did. The story started off amazing! Then slowed down in the middle But picked right back up to an exciting end.

The characters are lovely! Ellawyn and Beckett are both wonderful characters but I think my favorite is Benji. There are a few other liked secondary characters that I hope will be moved to get their own story.

Overall its a good story that easily kept my interest and turning pages. This is a new author for me and she did a good job with this story. I did find a few errors but I just did not let them bother me too heavily. Everything has a nice flow. Plus she made a lovely little town.

Distant Heart Sounds (Nurse Morgan Series Book 1) by Kate MacInnis – Review by Heidi Sturgess

Distant Heart Sounds (Nurse Morgan #1)Distant Heart Sounds by Kate MacInnis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was just brilliant! The change I needed 😉

Morgan had an aneurysm that ruptured and counted herself lucky to to still be alive but since then strange things have happened …. She sees , smells and hears things that no one else can , it would freak me out just a bit as well so I get where she’s coming from but I’m sure she’ll settle with her new “ gift”

I adore Douglas , her dog and the conversation she had with him the first time we met had me in stitches
“You know Douglas , if these party people are ghosts or a figment of my imagination, at least they know how to have a good time . I like that in a hallucination.” 🤦‍♀️😂

First day back and 2 of her patients die , people think she’s floating in and out of reality and then just to add some spice to the already crazy mix we get Dr Caleb Lightfoot 🔥

I think everyone sees it before Morgan does…. Our doc is going to win her heart and it seems he shares her gift 😉

We also have the issue where one of the patience have a dark secret which adds a little drama to our quirky story …

I really enjoyed this read and would recommend it with a happy heart ❣️📕

I enjoyed making your acquaintance Morgan , Caleb , Tiffany and Savannah and I can’t wait to spend more time with you ❣️🤗

I really enjoyed this romance story. What made it unique and different is that you get 3 romances for the price of one. The author does an amazing job of linking all the characters which makes the story flow really well. This story has it all and no matter what the circumstances proves that love will always find a way.

Firstly let me start by staying that it is Leona and her bookstore who are the matchmakers of our story.
Firstly we meet Sadie and Charlie. Both were in the book story looking for something neither of them knew they needed. When Leona sees their chemistry she plays a little switch with their purchases which means they have to reconnect. And so their friendship blooms into something amazing.

The 2nd relationship is between Fiona Gable and her ex husband. They find themselves in the same town at the same. Can Leona work her magic and repair and rekindle a love the died within the marriage?

And finally we have Leona herself. Her one love is her bookstore. She has never found that special someone. But when she hires Jon to help with repairs on her shop that could all change. However Jon is not without his own baggage. Can Leona finally give her love to more than just her bookshop? Will she finally get her happily ever after?

Jake the Growling dog Shares His Trail (jake the Growling Dog Book 3) by Samantha Shannon- Review by – Stephanie Driskill

Jake the Growling Dog Shares His TrailJake the Growling Dog Shares His Trail by Samantha Shannon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jake the Growling Dog loves running his trail daily and meeting up with his friends that he shares his trail with. One day, Jake and friends find strange tracks on their trail and are very afraid of the unknown marks. Jake and his friends go back to the trail and eventually come across another dog whose name is Tuck. After making friends with Tuck and playing for a while, Jake realizes that his new friend Tuck is making the strange tracks due to his missing leg. In the end, Jake and his friends learn that being different in physical appearance is not something to fear and doesn’t change the inside or basic make up of a being. Great story about acceptance of those who do not appear as we do. Cute story and likeable creatures. Great lesson for our children today in a story that is easy to relate to and the discussion and projects given at the end of the book are a great way to help them understand the lesson of the story.

Bookstores are amongst the happiest places on all the earth! Leona is the owner of the bookstore and she loves interjecting into the lives of others. When Sadie stops in to grab the newest book on the shelf and, quite literally, runs into Charlie who is buying a book for his grandmother, Leona works her magic and brings smiles to many faces.
Fiona is in a new town and stumbles into Leona’s bookstore. Fiona has a new book that’s about to be available to the public and Leona wants to host a book signing party for her. It’s that flyer in the corner that catches Fiona’s eye though. She’s not sure she ever wants to see her ex-husband Prince again. Then he walks into the store during the book signing…
The pipes are a mess and water is leaking everywhere but here comes Jon to the rescue. He’s always wanted to buy this old dilapidated building and fix it up but the codgy old man who owns it won’t even consider selling. Then the pipes burst and Leona’s bookstore is a total loss. Maybe the old man will change his mind now…

This story features 3 couples with a 4th playing a huge silent role! I was having a hard time believing in this story at first because, well, it just seemed to good to be true. However, the more I read the more I fell in love and by the end of this book, these characters almost felt like family! I have never read this author before but have since added all her books to my TBR pile! I love how she writes a clean novel that is enduring and leaves the reader feeling like they get their HEA after finishing the book!

Very cleverly written so that there is a natural flow from one story to the next and the timeline doesn’t miss a beat. A brilliant quick read.

I just absolutely adore Dragon/Draco books and this definitely fit the bill. I like how there is a complexity to the characters and plot. I love how the author builds the story conflict and then is able to get everything to work to a complimentary conclusion. The characters are very well written and really seem to jump off of the page. I really lost myself in this book. I also thought it was a very good conclusion to the trilogy.

My absolute favorite part of this book is that each of the three sort of main characters all want the same ending all just want to live in peace and stop the wars. I also like how there was a forbidden love entwined into this. I really get lost in paranormal fantasy books and I look forward to reading other books by this author in future.

Let me just start this with WHAT A FAST PACED thriller. We are met with Nora, a new Constable in the Cayman Islands. She is thrown into a situation she never dreamed of.

I do wish we had more of Nora’s background and why she was “chosen” for this particular situation. We are told part of her story but not the whole thing. Maybe that will come in the next part of the series.

This story was fast and full of dread and hope. I highly enjoyed everything this had to offer!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Nora is a native Norweigian who is living on the Grand Cayman Islands. She is a newly inducted Constable with the local police department. This particular area doesn’t see a lot of crime but Nora is chomping at the bit to do “something fun”. Little does she know that her life is about to change!
Entering a house that had a sign that lured Nora and her partner, Nora finds herself in a dangerous mind game with a girl’s life at stake. Can she maneuver through these grueling tasks that this insane kidnapper is demanding, while knowing that he’s livestreaming every step she takes?
This is a new-to-me author but not much longer! There are other stories that give a little bit more of Nora’s back story but I don’t feel like I missed a lot by not reading them prior. The author gives enough background to grasp the gist of her story. I do look forward to going back and reading other books that contain her character to see how she progresses. This book did not disappoint and kept me on the edge of my seat!

Bree has always been attracted to jocks – those guys with the tight bodies and overwhelming confidence. In fact, all the men who have ever burned her have been jocks. This is why she has created some pretty strict dating rules and vows to stick to them to avoid future heartache.

After finding duds on dating apps, Bree’s best friend Chloe sets her up for tennis lessons as a way to meet new people and take some of the focus off of if every new man she meets is her soul mate. After finding Nate in her favorite chinese place and then being matched up with him again at tennis, she reminds herself that his tall, taut body is outside of her dating rules – and keeps reminding herself as she realizes not only is he easy to talk to, but he listens and remembers things she has told him. She becomes friends with Nate, but thanks to his being in good shape, she keeps him at arms length.

In the course of this book she meets other men, and some of them check most of her boxes. Will Bree find the man of her dreams, or will she choose another dud? Will she recognize what is right in front of her?

Bree was fun to read about and had a lot of periods of internal thought that felt very familiar to me. This was a light, sweet read great for the summer and I really enjoyed the relationships and characters.

This Author never disappoints, and this series only gets better. Jonas and Kenzie have become my favorite couple, and their story took me by absolute surprise. Together they have a painful and emotional history that bleeds as gainfully in their present as it did in their past.
Kenzie was a girl who suffered from the heartbreak and betrayal by the teenage boy she gave her innocence to.. Feeling mentally defeated and lost she takes the only avenue she feels she has left causing a destructive domino effect.. Jonas and Kenzie were people who were disappointed and hurt by not just each other, but the people around them. As they are reunited at this present time in their life it becomes clear they never got over each other. Trying to understand what’s between them and if there can ever be more only brings up their difficult past and the secrets that are still between them.. As truth comes to light you feel the hurt, heartbreak, love, lust and insecurity that is between them and wonder if they can ever move on.

Jonas is powerful, a Titian of business and as all powerful men he works and plays hard. Seen as a playboy, one night speciality is this really the life for him. As his friend’s are starting to fall in love, can Jonas leave his playboy ways behind and find that special someone who can see under the armour and find the true, Jonas.

Mackenzie is striving to be the best chef she can be and needs to impress to get the job of a lifetime, working in one of the best kitchens in the hotel world would be the pinnacle of her career. So when she enters the room and sees a blast from her past, the old hurt and feelings come back but she is determined to play the game to win the prize, the only thing is she is playing with the master and will she get hurt again.

I must admit I was waiting for Jonas’s story since the beginning, you have this knee jerk dislike for this character as in each of the previous books he has always come across as arrogant and privileged, but this story really opens the character of Jonas and loved every minute of it. You know with this author that the story will always pact a punch and with a well-developed and written story this book does not disappoint.

I loved the character of Mackenzie, she was a strong woman, who in the past has had heartbreak and determined to not let this be her defining moment in life. The relationship between the two of them was heart-breaking with the truths come out. I love the way the author draws you into the story and you feel like you are living the book with the main characters. I can’t wait for the next book.

Yet another book in the series that will keep you turning the pages. Even though this is part of a series it can be read as a stand alone. I have come to enjoy all the books so far and I have to say this one I was whole heartedly able to relate to on a certain level. While Jonas has gone on and made millions more for the company his family started, his counter part of the book is trying to get her big break in the culinary world. MacKenzie is no longer that young and naive girl Jonas hurt with his actions back in high school. When their paths cross again it is unexpected for both of them, but the desire and longing is still there. Will they reignite the flame they once had? Getting over the past isn’t so easy, but will they be able to move past all the hurt and build a future? There is one major secret that MacKenzie hid from Jonas and she intends to keep it that way. If Jonas finds out the secret will he ever be able to forgive her?

From the very first page I knew I wouldn’t be able to put it down until I finished it and boy was I right. Glad I started it on my day off work because I couldn’t put it down. The characters are complex and relatable, they immediately had me so drawn in and I didn’t want to leave them. It’s well written and paced nicely. And you won’t forget these characters ever! Definitely adding it to my reading again list! Five huge stars and highly recommended!!!
