About C.A. King

I was diagnosed with clinical depression after the loss of my mother, father and husband within three years of each other; all to cancer. 24/7 in-home care, coupled with the loss I felt, left its mark on my psyche.

Depression takes up a lot of my life. Reading and writing are the only things I have found that help (in connection with regular medication), even if only for a short time. To escape to a different world can make a big difference in my mood in real time.

To put things in perspective, when I was at my lowest point, I couldn’t open mail, talk on the phone, or even drive to the store. Walls of sadness surrounded me. As they closed in, tears would fall. There didn’t need to be a reason or trigger.

People ask me why I started writing. My answer is simple: I wanted to create a world into which other people with similar problems could escape. I wanted to share the one place that had helped me for many years.

I have always said that as long as one person finds a little bit of happiness out of my books, I am, in my opinion, an accomplished author. The same is true for every writer out there. Please don’t ever let anyone tell you different.

I read books as well as write them and have visited the worlds many different authors have created. Those worlds not only make me feel better, but give me the strength to face real life again. I want to thank everyone who writes—I want them to know they are making a difference.

Fast forward to today…

Azreya, Aztec Priestess: An Illustrated Mythology Legend by Tricia Copeland, Illustrated by Matt Maes – Review by Angela Hayes

Azreya, Aztec PriestessAzreya, Aztec Priestess by Tricia Copeland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5 Stars

Azreya, Aztec Princess: An Illustrated Mythology Legend by Tricia Copeland is a wonderful illustrated historical fantasy interwoven with mythology, mysticism, and gives a window into the Aztec culture, daily life, and their religion- with beautiful illustrations which help to bring this story to life. This adventure is really well-woven, as expected from this talented author, and I love the mysteriousness and intrigue that came with all the Aztec elements.
The scene-setting and world-building are first-rate! Ms. Copeland’s attention to detail, clever and imaginative touches, and wonderfully descriptive details succeeded in pulling me into the story and making me feel like I was right there experiencing everything alongside the characters.
As I have discovered previously, Ms. Copeland is a talented author who never fails to deliver a complex and captivating story. Matt Maes beautiful, bright, and intriguing illustrations definitely helped to take this story to the next level.
Hope to see these two talented people collaborate again!
Looking forward to seeing what Ms. Copeland has in store for us next!

Thank you, Tricia Copeland!

Unbreakable Darkness (The Vigilant Book 1.5) by LM Preston – Review by Jenni Bishop

Unbreakable Darkness (Vigilant, #1.5)Unbreakable Darkness by L.M. Preston
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

You definitely have to read these books in order. So, all these .5 in the book numbers and more than one prequel is doing my head in so let me try to get it straight.

Insatiable Darkness is Book 0.5 in the Vigilant series and the prequel to Caged Fire Book 1 both are EmVee’s story.

Unbreakable Darkness is Book 1.5 in the series, but actually takes place at the same time as the first two books. It is Dexter’s story and is actually the prequel to Scepter of Fire Book 2. I know there are other books but I will worry about them later. Hope this helps.

These books are YA paranormal supernatural stories mixed with fantasy and science fiction. There is adventure and suspense, betrayal and mystery, danger and sacrifice, paranormal beings/creatures and magic and much, much more in this fast-paced and action-packed tale.

Dexter finds himself staring Trouble in the face more than he likes but unfortunately it seems to find him where ever he goes. Now it’s time to face it head on he only hopes he survives to tell the tale.

It took me a while to get into the flow of these books but now I am intrigued.

Azreya, Aztec PriestessAzreya, Aztec Priestess by Tricia Copeland
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Azreya, Aztec Priestess is a book for YA’s aged 12 plus. It is a mishmash of paranormal/fantasy, historical fiction, legend and mythology. With shamans, monsters and gods there is a little bit for every YA paranormal fantasy lover.

It is a novel with illustrations done by Matt Maes that help bring the story to life.

Tricia’s passion for the subject matter shines through in the narrative.

It is a journey back in time when the Aztec were thriving but impending doom has been foreseen. Little is known about them and their ways but Tricia helps us learn more about them as we journey along with Azreya who is fighting to help her people thrive and survive.

Peg’s Stand (Satan’s Devils MC #6) Audio Book by Manda Mellett – Review by Deb Robinson

Peg's Stand (Satan's Devils MC, #6)Peg’s Stand by Manda Mellett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was absolutely incredible. This wonderful author keeps intoxicating me with her books.

Peg’s an injured vet that has always been the brooding angry looking member of the Satan Devils. Not one to be crossed. On the inside, he secretly wishes he could have an old lady and children someday like some of the members of the club. No one has ever turned his head enough to keep anyone as an old lady. He fears a life of solitude is his future.

Darcy is a fire woman and has worked hard to prove she is as good as any man. Since she is used to working with men, she is always out to prove herself worthy of her place in the department and she is darn good at it.

So much happens in this book that will keep you captivated and reading into the night. You will be shocked and appalled by some of the scenes but are necessary to the character enhancement. You will cheer for Peg and Darcy as they struggle to do what is right. This is a MUST read book.

This is a new to me author and I enjoyed this book alot. It was definitely very angsty and I didn’t agree with all of the choices made by the mcs but I was looking forward to seeing how it all played out as the story progressed. We get to see if love really conquers all and some the hardships people go through for the ones that they love.
I am looking forward to reading more by this author in the future!

I Loved You Yesterday: Book One in the Trading Heartbeats TrilogyI Loved You Yesterday: Book One in the Trading Heartbeats Trilogy by Julie Navickas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I Loved You Yesterday is a raw emotional journey. This second chance contemporary romance is a love triangle where brothers are involved. Yikes! It is fast paced with lots of steam, passion and drama. This tale is complex yet beautifully woven together to give the reader a story that will stay with them.

Although I fell in love with the characters there were times I didn’t know if I wanted to hug them or throttle them but all in all they are really well written and relatable.

The heart wants what the heart wants.

This award-winning debut novel has thrust Julie into the limelight in a spectacular way and I know once readers have gotten their hands on this book, they will fall in line waiting for what comes next, I know I will.

Can first love overcome time, secrets, challenges, and having to choose between twin brothers?
I Loved You Yesterday is the first book in the Trading Heartbeats Trilogy by Julie Navickas. This is the first book that I have read by this author, so I really didn’t know what to expect from one of her books. But as I love a great second chance story I took a chance and snapped up a copy and I am so glad that I did.
This proved to be a wonderful second chances romance, with a bit of a love triangle, secrets, heartache, challenges, some angst, drama, and plenty of emotion.
Bring on Book #2- “Love You Today”!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Julie Navickas!

Fairly Royal (The Fair Series Book 4) by Grace Grahme – Review by Kiana Corley

Fairly Royal (Fair, #4)Fairly Royal by Grace Grahme
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was a great read. I enjoyed how the author used the common language from the time period and country in which the book took place. It was not one of those books where the author says it takes place in Europe, yet all of the mannerism and speech is just like it is here in the U.S.

This book is entertaining and fun getting to see the story unravel from the perspective of both of the characters. The author does really well with the descriptions of the area and the characters, making it easier to visualize what is happening. Also witnessing how they affect each other and help the other one grow.

This book follows the story of a girl that has loved a boy for years and finally gets a chance with him. Their relationship did not start out how you would expect a normal relationship to start. Although you will learn throughout the story that Anna is not your average woman of the late 90s. She is headstrong and determined to make her keep, rather than being a kept woman at home.

Phillip is a smart and well of man from a highly respected family. Has known Anna for ages but never saw anything there until an unexpected event occurs. How does this man develop feelings for an independent woman that is decades ahead of the times for women? You will just have to read this amazing book to find out.

Peg’s Stand (Satan’s Devils MC #6) Audio Book by Manda Mellett – Review by Sunday Barnaby

Peg’s Stand: Satan’s Devils MC #6 by Manda Mellett
Narrated by Sierra Kline and Logan McAllister
Five Stars

This by far is my favorite Satan’s Devils book, but I tend to say that with every new book Ms Mellett writes. I have been waiting for Peg’s story. It was definitely worth the wait. Darcy is the perfect woman for Peg. She is a strong woman who encounters and surmounts obstacles along the way.
This book is narrated by Sierra Kline and Logan McAllister as have been the prior books in this series. They work well with each other to bring the characters to life. The voices are easy on the ears. I look forward to listening to more books narrated by them in the future.

I absolutely loved this one. I never hesitate to pick this authors books up, and when I saw this one was on audio I had to have it. It had me laughing and crying and that’s how I know I really liked it. Brings on all of the emotions!! I really enjoyed the narrators. They did a great job and I enjoyed the way they brought this story to life. I will definitely be looking for more audios narrated by them asap. And of course more books by this wonderful author.

Never Is A Very Long Time (The Perfect Date Book 1) Audiobook by Donna McDonald – Review by Sunday Barnaby

Donna McDonald is a new author for me. I enjoyed listening to the story. Never is a Very Long Time is the first book in the series, The Perfect Date. This is a romantic comedy about dating in you 30s, 40s, 50+. Mariah Bates owns the Dating App that matches mature adults with each other for Perfect Dates. The fun ensues as she tries to stay one step ahead of her vindictive ex-husband. Detective John Monroe may turn out to be Mariah’s Perfect match. This is the first book I have listened to that used synthesized audio.  To my surprise it was great, and would definitely listen to more audios like this.

Rivals (Mafia Elite Book 7) by Amy McKinley – Review by Shea Gilkerson 8/23/22

Rivals (Mafia Elite, #7)Rivals by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This entire series is full of intrigue, passion, violence, loyalty, love and family. Each book has shown a budding relationship between the men of the Five Families of the Chicago Mafia and their incredibly loyal relationships between each other. As the families have continued to grow, there is a quick rundown at the beginning about who is who, and who they belong to – I always appreciate those.

This book focuses on Mia Tucci, a New York mafia princess who holds no love or loyalty for her own family – as they never had any for her. She was a tool, a pawn – her entire life. Used to make men feel stronger. On the plus side, she was always well taught to protect herself and trust her instincts – as well as ignored in most instances, so she can witness the horrors her father and stepbrother have been committing. They run a sex traffficking ring and Mia has finally decided she has gathered enough information to take them down, assuming Nico accepts her offer.

Nico is the “last brother standing” in regards to meeting the love of his life, and he’s ok with that. When he turns on the beach at their family safe house to find Mia Tucci pointing a gun in his face, he doesn’t feel afraid for his safety so much as he feels interested in what she may have to say. When Mia lays out her plan, which includes marriage to Nico, he accepts the responsibility of protecting her but they have ground rules to set.

Together, they realize they are attracted to one another, drawn to one another, and care for one another. There is danger, romance, drama, violence, family and love from all fronts in this book of the series. There are also some darker topics, so trigger warning for those. I couldn’t put ANY of the Mafia Elite series down and have reread them several times. Do yourself a favor and read these books!

This was an amazing read! I feel like I haven’t read a book this immersive in a while. The beginning was a little slow, and it took several chapters and some intrigue for me to really get invested but wow! I felt like I was right there with the siblings the whole time. The world building is just incredible in this book. The gorgeous cover drew me in but the immersive writing made me stay. I highly recommend reading this one if you’re a fan of fantasy! Slight trigger warning on blood, violence and some abuse though so be wary if you have those triggers. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Once again this amazing, wonderful, and talented author has made such an impacting, gripping, and wonderful novel filled with so much! Honestly this author does not disappoint in any shape or form!

I have been hooked on this series since the first novel in the series was released in the Antipodes series, Each installment has left me with more and more wants, questions, and the need to know what will happen next plus with the events that happen will it impact the wonderful characters I have grown such an attachment to and what and how will this affect them? Is a truth they already know but they refuse to accept? Not only will these answers change their happy life but it will define these characters not just for the time being but forever…again the writing was gripping and kept you immersed to what could, and what would happen next! Kristopher Simon was the Titan that had it all or so it seems. His marriage was basically over so all he has is his kids and his career. He was ready to dine with this marriage after all his wife had put him through. Then he met Alessia Johnston at a medical convention. He would be her boss so he knew he should stay away. He couldn’t resist her any more than she could resist him. Things begin to spiral and it seems like they will never find their way to each other. I loved this book. To hear Krisopher story at long last and understand him more.

This book is unbelieveably sexy and funny, as well as full of interesting notes on BDSM. There is a lot of trauma based events as well, but it brings the two main characters closer. I’m also incredibly impressed with the amount of solid chapters this novel has. There are no boring points ever to be found, with PLENTY of funny or steamy scenes, or trauma flashbacks/details. Love is so many things that you never quite know what to expect with romance story. Love can be complicated, it can be messy, it can be blind, and it can make people make difficult decisions. Such is the case with this romance story, the lead characters were truly amazing but is it possible that their decisions pushed each other away? The world building was complex, the story was original, and overall so great that I simply couldn’t put it down.

Eventually some evidence surfaces and it makes the Queen a suspect in the King’s murder. Lisette has a choice to make. What is more important to her? The goal she set for herself as a child, to be rich and famous or to clear her father’s name.

I really enjoyed this book. Lisette is stubborn, determined, strong and witty. I very much enjoyed getting to know her as a character. Luc, not so much. He was a pompous arse and I hated him from day one. He thought he was all that and a bag of chips, using his charm and looks to his advantage. Although after a while he becomes more human making him more likeable as time goes on.

I Loved You Yesterday (Trading Heartbeats Trilogy Book 1) by Julie Navickas – Review by Kay Stritesky

I Loved You Yesterday: Book One in the Trading Heartbeats TrilogyI Loved You Yesterday: Book One in the Trading Heartbeats Trilogy by Julie Navickas
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I absolutely loved every page of this book! I have read books before that I could not put down but this one comes out on top!
The characters are real, raw and relatable. Each character’s emotions flows off the pages and readers can feel the pain, heartache and suffering along with the happiness and joy each character finds! At no point is it one sided each character is developed so well throughout the entire book!
I cannot wait for the next installment of this series!

Jester by Brielle D. Porter – Review by Shannen Kern

JesterJester by Brielle D. Porter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was quite entertained in the beginning of the book but at some part I became completely engrossed in it and unable to put it down. Time was irrelevant and I absorbed myself into this world. Brielle D. Porter is an amazing author, and I can’t wait to see what adventure she’ll take us on next!

Lisette is a determined female lead and her honesty with herself is definitely refreshing. Her father was known as the Kingkiller and she isn’t sure she will ever live it down, but she isn’t going to just sit idly by and deal with what life gave her. Her ultimate goal is to obtain the position of the Queen’s Jester but there are quite a few obstacles in her way. Will she be able to redeem her family name and win the crown’s attention, or will her career disappear in a cloud of smoke?

If this is Brielle D. Porter’s debut novel, watch out world! She is bound for amazing things. She has written an incredible magical tale and I’m excited to see more from her. You won’t be disappointed with this original otherworldly book!

Ashes of Sin and Stardust (AnchorX) by Lindsay Murray – Review by Katie Kearney

Ashes of Sin and StardustAshes of Sin and Stardust by Lindsay Murray
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is in no way for the faint of heart. This author takes hard to deal with situations and writes them well this book isn’t for everyone but I for one simply couldn’t put it down. Two imperfect people with a heck of a story to tell.from page one I knew I’d be getting very little sleep and I was right. Once I started I found it so hard to put it down when the real world came calling. There’s definitely times this author had me in tears and I loved every minute of it. The story will draw you so completely in and you’ll have a hard time when the end comes. Five stars and highly recommended all the way.
