My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have never read a full book of poetry before, so I was not entirely sure what to expect. Poetry can be a very deep and personal form of artistic expression and, for me, can also be very difficult to interpret if not the composer. However, I felt like I was able to maintain a fairly good sense of understanding throughout.

While many of the poems were deep and seemed to come from a place of depression, annoyance and anger, the emotions were beautifully captured by the author’s gift with words. And not all of the poetic writings were desolate. Some were light, or heavily influenced by music the author loves. And some even made me giggle. Dark or light, I caught myself nodding in understanding or relating to many of emotions shared. I also quite enjoyed the periodic journal-type writings tucked in between.

I am very glad I tried something new and gave this compilation of poems a chance. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I truly enjoyed the works of Ryan Becker and I hope there is more to come.
