This is the second book of the Kingdom of the Elf Lords series and this time it follows Émilien and Hel.

Émilien was an Elven lord once married to Hel – the goddess of the dead and daughter of Loki. Émilien was cursed to live out the rest of his days as a werewolf and lost the love of his life as well. They had a daughter together but Hel wanted her daughter oblivious to her parents origin. She knew her father too well and did not want to give him any fuel to mess around with what was hers.

In the first book Émilien found his long lost nephew he didn’t even know existed. After finding out that his brother disappeared long ago, Émilien decides to find them if it’s the last thing he does.

Something is amiss. Forces are trying to stop Émilien from continuing his search. Meanwhile the dead seem to be disappearing from Hel’s realm. Émilien and Hel have to try to put their differences aside to save those around them, including their daughter.

This book was much more exciting and action packed than the first book. I enjoyed reading about the couple’s love/hate relationship and found myself rooting for them to have a happy ending.

Reader’s Thoughts: Into the Light is the third installment of the Moon Harbor Series written by Kate McWilliams. Although this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. This was my first time reading a book written by McWilliams and I am forever thankful for the introduction to this series. The characters were relatable, from their chemical tension to their love story. The flirty banter was always entertaining and sucked you right in. From the moment I picked up the book, I couldn’t put it down. I was able to read this in two sittings over an entire afternoon. If you love a good romance mixed with a hint of mystery this one is for you.

Favorite Quote: “I ruin everything I touch and everyone who gets too close to me gets hurt. I want Ellie more than anything in this world. But there’s no way I’m subjecting her to my cursed life.”

This was a great 5 star read.
I read this in one sitting, I didn’t want to put it down. Ellie has had a crush on Raf for years, the only problem is that he is her brother’s best friend and has always kept her at arm’s length. Raf has had feelings for Ellie for years but she is too good for him and he can’t betray the bro code. However, Ellie is starting to get under his skin and he is finding it very hard to resist her. With a twist of danger, he finally, finally gives into his feelings and shows Ellie just how he feels. Ellie is tired of Rafs push and pull games, is he for real this time?

Overall this was a great read. There were twists and turns with danger and mystery thrown in to add a great element to the story. I did have some level of frustrations with Raf and his trying to stay away from Ellie, glad he finally grew a pair and stopped worrying so much. These two were great for each other, we get some steamy scenes. The secondary characters were great and I loved the ending. I look forward to reading more from this series and author. 1-click and get started today.

What a read! Of course, you knew that there was going to be tension between Marissa and Weston pretty much as soon as you start to get to know their story, and this author does not disappoint. Immediately after landing, the tension is at an all time high, and it doesn’t dissipate throughout the novel. These two definitely were written in the stars, and as all relationships do, they have their ups and downs. This writing style is addictive, entertaining, and in some parts, a little predictable, but I think that comes with having read and watched as many romantic comedies as I possibly can.

I didn’t realize there were more to the series, and I will certainly be travelling back to Postscript Island when time permits. This author has a way of building up her characters, making you feel very much like you know all those around, and feel the emotions boiling over as fast-paced entertainment thrills your mind with all the little twists and turns. I really enjoyed this novel, and would recommend to anyone that’s looking for a fun, enjoyable adventure. Well done!

Tropical Date by R. S. Jonesee, continues the Postscript Island series with the story of Marissa, the painter who is following her dream of opening her own art gallery and Weston, who happens to be Marissa’s ex, the condom company owner who is coming back home to help his mother. Will the two of them be able to rekindle an old flame while solving a Postscript island mystery?

This book was such a fun read! The characters were funny, full of wit and really entertaining. The story had an easy flow that kept you turning the pages while keeping you intrigued with the mystery and blushing from the romance.

Grab a frozen drink and lounge on the beach with this one.

I wish this story was a tiny bit longer and answered some of the lingering questions (this the reason for the 4 star rating), but overall it was a good story. I would say first through third grade readers would enjoy this the most.

Bernard was a soldier in World War II, losing his wife and kids at Pearl Harbour sent him spiralling. He focused all his time and devotion into the war. When he passed away, Freyja gave him a second chance and brought him into her court. All he could think about was what he had lost. In his depression he comes up with the idea to travel back in time and alter what happened to try to save his family. Like they say in all time travel related things, even the smallest change can alter all of history and boy did it ever. Bernard, with the help of Freyja, other gods and goddesses, Alva, elf lords, and witches, try to fix what Bernard started.

The theory was very appealing to me but I lost some interest when the book started delving into the politics and what not of World War II. Also Bernard seemed to be on repeat. I found he said the same things over and over, making him kind of dull in my eyes. Luckily his story picked up later on and my interest came back.

Meanwhile, I was interested in Alva’s story and still am. She is a Huldra which is a creature who feeds off of the life-force of men. They have bark on their backs and tails. Never being comfortable draining men to their deaths, she fled the life of the Huldra and took up a job as Freyja’s assistant. Her mother, who is Queen of the Huldra gets sick and Alva has to return home. She then decides to find out more about the history of the Huldra as she can survive without killing her prey, so why can’t the others? Her story seemed incomplete and had a lot of loose ties that were still there at the end of the book. I really hope later on in the series, the author delves deeper into Alva’s back story.

I have always been into mythology, Norse being my favourite so when I read the synopsis of this book and I saw some mention of Norse Mythology, I knew I had to read it! It helped to already have some knowledge of Norse Mythology. Luckily the author included a glossary for those not familiar with the Names and terms.

I loved that Ms. Mullins also includes recipes from the bakery in the book. You get to learn about Emma’s unfortunate background and see her relationship with her sister and father. This is a fun and wonderful start to the Notebook Mysteries series.

These two are matched when Jake and his four billionaire friends use a blind dating app. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Jake and Lauren. I found them very easy to root for. I also enjoyed the friendship between Jake and his friends. The characters in the book are very well written and I look forward to reading about the other four friends. This is a book that is easy to get into and hard to put down.

The main character is neurodivergent, and so is often viewed as a witch by those around her. Though at times, the story seems like it might meander like a river, the author manages to skillfully control both the fantasy and the historical streams of her book. Readers are able to glimpse life through the lens of a strong female character in an era when women had strict roles imposed on them. Heartache, personal growth, and forgiveness are themes of this book.

First, let me say that I purchased this book for a teacher friend of mine to add to her classroom book library. It is about a girl with a flute and that reminded me of myself because I also learned to play the flute as a young girl. And just as I was taught that hard work pays off with practice and learning, so does Moby. This is a perfect book to teach kids about not giving up no matter how hard you may want to. The book’s filled with beautiful illustrations and help bring the story to life. Not only does this teach kids to keep practicing, but to keep learning and growing as well. I highly recommend this book for kids and for adults to read to their kids.

This is the wonderful, heartwarming tale of a father and daughter who learn that even though life may be difficult and not always what you want, persistence and patience always pay off in the end. Moby is disheartened when her dad, a Marine, is called away on duty and won’t be back for her birthday. He gives her an early birthday present before he leaves, a bamboo flute. Moby struggles to learn how to play and is quickly discouraged. But she perseveres and soon learns that with practice and patience, she can do anything she puts her mind to. I love the life lessons Eeha Bhatt incorporates into their story. While this story is obviously geared towards small children, I’ve often used picture books with my high school students and this will be one I will definitely incorporate. I love the story and the illustrations are amazing. I’ve also read this story to my 6-year old and she loved the story and the pictures.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Just when I was hoping to read the best things for the Agneson Clan, I am left in a series of cliffhangers for each family member, and I am grieving for the deaths that have occurred. This amazing series takes place in the Viking Era around the year 880 and can I just say is full of history, love, war, mystery, witchcraft and above all historical lore that transports me to the Viking lands every time I pick up the book. Kara achieves rank and becomes a shieldmaiden but finds out that being a warrior is not at all what she thought it would be. Karl does battle with his ship Verdandi Smiles while at war with a greater navy. Sorven meets a young girl at the end of the book and has fallen deeply in love with her. But will all turn pout well for Sorven? Thorfinn meets up with the witches that he physically damaged and they are out for revenge. Will he survive the witches and their eight-legged monster? And Cub? What is going on with Cub? While Cub escaped slavery, what is he up to now? So many unanswered questions and so much adventure and excitement has taken place in this book. I cannot wait for the next book!!!! What about all the mythical creatures that have come to play in this book and the lore of the Vikings that is prevalent on every page?! A must read book!!!

As a teacher, I am always looking for engaging books to read to my students. It is great if it is a book that I can tie in with a lesson. This is especially true if it is a book that models a social emotional skill, such as empathy, kindness or perseverance. The more books I can show my students about these skills the happier I am. This book is the perfect book to teach about a growth mindset, perseverance, or resilience. It also would be a good book to introduce Passion Projects if your class does them.
Moby’s father is in the military and he is about to be deployed. He gives her a gift before he leaves. This gift is a flute. Moby discovers that learning to play the flute will not be an easy task, rather it is something she will need to work hard at. This story is absolutely heartwarming and it has the most beautiful illustrations.
I read this book to my students in Kindergarten, First Grade and Second grade. I recommend this book for all those age ranges. However, I would not limit it to those ages. I believe that all children would enjoy this book.

As a teacher, I am always looking for engaging books to read to my students. It is extra helpful if they can be cross curricular. This book definitely fits the bill. I read this book as a read aloud to my students in Kindergarten, First and Second grades. They all thoroughly enjoyed this book and it gave us many discussions. I had chosen to read this just as a fun read aloud, however, this would be a great book to read when students are talking about forms of matter, specifically water. My students had many questions about how accurate the information was and it lead to an impromptu series of experiments with ice. This could definitely be used more strategically to coincide with a unit on water / states of matter. It also is a great book just to read aloud. I would say that second / third grade readers could most likely begin to read this book independently, but that every reader is different. Any child who likes mermaids would also enjoy it! I definitely recommend it and will be using it for years to come!

This is such a heart warming and captivating book that really piqued my daughters interest. The pictures throughout the book were so well done that she engaged with them easily. The book tells a great story, both educating and entertaining its intended audience. It isn’t often you get an author that successfully does both but this author has achieved it.
This is a book I also enjoyed, mainly because it was nice to see my daughter getting joy from. We will definitely be exploring more of this authors work.

I love a funny romantic comedy with some absolutely astounding puns thrown in, Tropical Date (Postscript Island Book 3) by R.S. Jonesee is that. I mean one of the main characters owns and operates a latex factory so you are talking comedy gold. This is a standalone romantic comedy with a really really slow burn second chance romance and a little mystery thrown in. I admit this is the first book I’ve read by this author, but this book has such humorous dialog and an interesting bonus to the storyline that I definitely want to check out more books by them.

We meet two highschool sweethearts, Weston and Marissa, several years after a tumultuous break. Marissa sill resides in Postscript Island and is about to embark on her dream of opening her own art gallery. She is dating a nice cafe owner and getting her life back on track, when Weston returns. Weston never thought he would return to Postscript, but when his mom needs his help he can’t turn his back. It’s there he sees Marissa again and though they have a strained past the sparks are still alive between them. As they try to figure out what’s going on in Postscript, new obstacles and old feelings arise. Do second chances exist or are things better left in the past?

“Moby has a problem” is how we are introduced to this sweet story. Moby is a young girl who feels like everyone and everything is against her. She sits at the back of the classroom until her dad encourages her to move to the front. She does and is ridiculed for an incorrect answer. Oh how she misses the back row! Moby then learns that her daddy is being called away for a long period of time with the Marines. He leaves her birthday gift with her. She sees a beautiful flute but when she tries to play it, it won’t work. She throws it over in a pile of other “rejected” toys. She’s missing her daddy but nothing seems to work out in her favor!
It’s getting closer to another birthday and her dad is still away. He’s not sending a gift this year. She talks to him about the “broken flute” and he tells her not to give up. What happens next is a huge lesson for everyone involved.

This book focuses on persistence and patience. It’s a great book for youngsters of all ages, young and old alike!! It’s a great book to show that being persistent and having confidence can change your outlook on everything!

Wow! I loved this book! Euphoric Wonderland by Ryan M. Becker is an inspired work of art! The pop culture references like The Beatles, Alice in Wonderland, Superheroes, and Pink Floyd really make this work relatable and memorable. From cover to cover the artwork and color palette is beautiful and trippy, very well thought out! These truly musical poems let you feel the rhythm and sound of each stanza. The title couldn’t have been more perfect! Becker writes with such humor and whimsy that even the title of each poem was endlessly entertaining. “Spelling Check You Break My Neck”. I laughed out loud! Some poems even left me breathless! It made me discover the weird and the bizarre in the best way! As a writer this book really inspired me to just write outside of the box without caring about “perfection”. I know this book will stick with me for a while. Thank you Ryan for writing something extremely fun, motivational, refreshing, and deep! Please Please give this book a try! You might be surprised by what you find in yourself!

Into the Light is a Suspenseful Romance/ forbidden love/ best friends little sister story that is fast paced but man is it packed with drama, action, suspense and a few twists and turns that will have you turning the pages trying to figure out what is going to happen next. I’ve read other books by this author and I must say this is my favorite yet. I love this authors style of writing and attention to detail and just enough edginess to keep you coming back for more. This is Rafael and Ellie’s story. He thinks he’s cursed because of something that happened in the past and Ellie is not exactly the delicate flower the towns people claim her to be. She is also Raf’s best friends little sister who has had a crush on him since she was a teen. These two definitely have chemistry and holy cow the attraction is off the charts. What will happen when the past shows up?Can these two get a happy ending? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. If you haven’t already started this series I would recommend reading them as they are just as good as this one . I’m looking forward to reading more from this Author.

Euphoric Wonderland is an eclectic collection of poetry that delves into the world of mental health, tributes to rock stars, slam poetry, and even superheroes. With a flow much like listening to music this personal memoir was a delight to read. The raw emotions the author felt during the writing of each poem could be felt as I read through each one. Whether the author was feeling an emotional high or at an all-time low, those emotions were expressed so vividly that I felt and experienced them on a deep level.

As someone who has battled through mental health issues I could relate on a deep level and felt a connection with the author. I was brought to tears numerous times as I read through several of the poems. This book will make you laugh, make you cry, and will undoubtedly leave you feeling things while looking at the world through a different point of view. An uplifting and inspiring book that you will want to read more than once!

She has it in her mind that if she dates, he’ll have to be on the same level as her, as she has tried her hardest to never be like her mother, a gold-digger.
Jake wants something real, but being named the hottest billionaire bachelor has made things hard for him. He’s ready to give up until his friends talk him into trying a new dating app, one that sets up blind dates in the dark.
Having both been set up by their friends to try this blind date, follow along as they discover about each other and what happens when they finally meet face to face!

I read the Mind Reading Hat to my 6 year old. He really enjoyed it, but was thrown off by UNbirthday. After we discussed it, he loved the idea and asked if he could have an UNbirthday too. Needless to say, I have a week to plan a party now lol.
The story is fun and I love that it was non traditional. It included grandpa and neighbor as the important people in the child’s life. The gifts were creative and the art work was great. The book is very eye catching and colorful. It was a fun story and I would read others by the author.

I read Oliver to my 6 year old. Before we started, I asked if he knew what adoption is or what it means to be adopted. He said no, not really. We have “adopted” a cat, and he has a friend who is adopted, but it’s not something they talk about… I think the book did a good job of explaining WHY a kid might be put up for adoption, and a gentle way of explaining it for kids. It also addresses the wonder and curiosity that is normal for a kid to have regarding their birth parents. It did a good job of explaining adoption in a kind, loving and gentle way for young readers. We do wish the pictures were colored, rather than just drawings. My son liked seeing the imagined parents in lots of different scenes and professions. I think this is a good book for elementary school aged kids to learn about adoption in a judgement free way.
