Jake (Billionaire Blind Dates Book 1) by Toni Denise – Review by Shea Gilkerson 9/22/22

Jake (Billionaire Blind Dates Book 1)Jake by Toni Denise
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was a pretty simple storyline but told in a way that made me want to keep reading. It was interesting to consider the literal “blind” date idea. Jake and his billionaire friends are loyal friends, always supporting one another, and always egging each other on. The whole group is incredibly likeable and familial. Lauren was kind of a lone wolf until she met them, but once Catherine befriended her, she became part of the fold.

Jake is tired of gold diggers pursuing him and just wants someone he can relax and enjoy their company – WITHOUT being after his money. That’s why he decided to take a chance when his friends introduced him to the idea of the new blind date restaurant – and each friend choosing 1 person to go on a date with him. After the first one turned out to be exactly what he DIDN’T like, he wasn’t keen on going on any more – but he agreed to one from each friend, so he was going to go for it. Little did any of them know, Catherine had manipulated the system a bit and got HER choice – Lauren – set up for his second date.

After hitting it off, Jake is excited to pursue knowing his mystery date better, but Lauren is nervous. It’s been a very long time since she dated, and having watched her mothers relationships as she grew up, she wants to be careful to be sure there’s a connection before coming out of the dark. Before long, they inadvertantly discover who their blind date was, and the book progresses from there. It’s a sweet romance and they’re both a bit surprised to find how well suited they are for one another when they discover their date.

Quick, sweet read with a lot of nice relationship building in the background. There’s a touch of drama here and there, but it’s very straightforward with the plotline. Enjoyed it a lot.

My Bronc Riding Cowgirl (My Cowboy Series Book 6) by Brooke May – Review by Kerry Carr

My Bronc Riding CowgirlMy Bronc Riding Cowgirl by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really loved the story of Cord and Tori. The author does an amazing job with the characters. The story is engaging and entertaining. I love Tori, she is an amazingly strong female lead and I love her determination to make a change.
She wants to join the male dominated world of bronc riding. She wants to compete with the best and she knows she has what it takes.
However it isn’t a female friendly sport and people have always told her that she would never be able to compete in such a male dominated sport.
Now she was going to prove them all wrong and pave the way for women to participate in this sport.
She will come up against some strong competition for this buckle including the current champ Cord.

Cord is currently doing well on the rodeo circuit and doesn’t see that changing until he sees his fellow competitor Tori. When Tori isn’t swayed by his charms at first Cord doesn’t know how to deal with such a strong willed and determined female but slowly he starts to break down the strong willed exterior to see the woman underneath.
Tori won’t make it easy for him though and with her main focus being on winning the rodeo and proving her friends and family wrong she can’t allow herself to be distracted by a handsome talented cowboy.

I really enjoyed seeing this relationship grow and bloom as they both learn to understand and respect the other person for their abilities and as friendship changes to something more can they both keep their head to focus on winning?

Euphoric Wonderland by Ryan M. Becker – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

Euphoric Wonderland: An Eclectic Collection of Psychedelic Poetry to Stimulate the Senses and Open the MindEuphoric Wonderland: An Eclectic Collection of Psychedelic Poetry to Stimulate the Senses and Open the Mind by Ryan M. Becker
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Euphoric Wonderland is an engaging and transporting collection of poetry. It’s beautifully presented with decoratively coloured pages that are a welcome change to the usual white on black.

The poems address a variety of topics – some charting the poet’s personal journey and highlighting his influences (much is said on the topic of The Beatles…) and others more abstract. There’s a beautiful and considered use of language in many and they flow – you can tell they’re being spoken out loud.

My favourites include Schumann or Human You Wish That We Knew Him, Carnation Formation For Our Admiration and A Shape Escaped, No Need for Breaks. They really captured my imagination and I enjoyed reading them!

This book gets four stars from me, and I would love to read more from this poet. Euphoric Wonderland is certainly “An Eclectic Collection” – I’d really like to read something with a clearer narrative or thematic thread running through it to draw me from one poem to the next. But the poems themselves are fantastic, and the collection is a great demonstration of the author’s talents!

Moby Plays the Flute by Eeha Bhatt – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

Moby Plays the FluteMoby Plays the Flute by Eeha Bhatt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Moby Plays the Flute is a gorgeous picture book. I love the illustration style, with loads of fun details meaning you can spend ages totally absorbed in exploring the pictures. The story is positive and will speak to children and adults alike.

I was drawn to this book as a music teacher – I love stories about music. This doesn’t disappoint, and I think it would be a great book to read with a child who is starting to learn an instrument to help them to prepare for the patience and perseverance they will need, and get excited about learning and playing their instrument!

This is also a good book to read with a child when a parent has to go away for a long time. Moby misses her dad, and he misses her but he’s still there for her even when he’s far away.

This book gets five stars from me! A wonderfully enjoyable book to read, and a good way to explore the importance of persevering when learning something new!

Notebook Mysteries ~ Haunted Christmas by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Chrissy Spulak

Notebook Mysteries Haunted ChristmasNotebook Mysteries Haunted Christmas by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Two of my favorite things are: the holidays and the supernatural. So, of course, I love Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, and I love this book. Historical fiction with a twist of mystery and suspense, this book is just as good as the others in this series. Emma has been one of my favorite lead characters since I picked up the first book. This book did not last long enough for my taste, but, they never do. I would suggest reading the previous books in this series – only because they are fabulous, and it will be worth your time. However, if you are looking for a story that will scoop you up and drop you into the 19th century, you could read this as a standalone, as well, and be just fine. This book could be a thousand pages long, and I would probably still complain it wasn’t long enough. Highly recommend!

Hungry Business: A Gothic Story about the Horrors of Dating by Maria DeBlassie – Review by Amanda Glaspie

Hungry BusinessHungry Business by Maria DeBlassie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was an intriguing quick shirt story and the difficulties of dating during a time when not everyone is human. This was an entertaining tale of the challenges of internet dating, something that isn’t easy under normal circumstances. For 15 pages it gave quite a bit of character development and the ending made me wanting more. Not usually a fan of short stories, but this was deep and I really enjoyed it.

My Bronc Riding Cowgirl (My Cowboy Series Book 6) by Brooke May – Review by Bethany Rollins

My Bronc Riding CowgirlMy Bronc Riding Cowgirl by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My Bronc Riding Cowgirl gives us the story of Cord, an up and coming rider in the rodeo world, and Tori, a fiercely independent women setting her sights on her own bronc riding dream and to follow in her father’s footsteps. Cord comes to stay with the family and is immediately drawn to Tori. She, however, is not swayed by his charm and only has her mind set on shocking her family and home town crowd in her debut in bronc riding. Cord slowly begins to break through Tori’s strong-willed barrier and the two ignite under the rodeo lights. This was a great read and a setting I don’t often get to experience in books. The characters were lovely and fun to get to know. I loved that Cord was comfortable with a strong female and that Tori was able to relax and show a softer side with Cord. Although this is part of a series, this can definitely be read as a standalone.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I seriously don’t know how the author does it but this fantastic series just keeps getting better and better with each book! I really didn’t think that was possible. I am totally hooked and need more!!! I love the almost instant connection between Master Romano and Raven that can’t be ignored even though vampires and witches being together is totally unheard of. This book will keep you captivated from the very first word, with plenty of twists and turns along the way. I so did not pick one particular twist that’s for sure but I don’t want to give anything away so I’ll zip my lip on that! Do yourself a huge favour and grab this book today…actually grab the whole series!!

I have said it before and I will say it again, this wonderful author never ever disappoints and this book is yet another example of her fantastic writing. The lead characters Cord and Tori are truly wonderful and they captured me right from the start. Cord is a popular Bronc rider on the rodeo circuit who is doing really well when along comes Tori a strong willed woman and fellow competitor. She isn’t interested in the hype surrounding him so a smooth start is definitely not on the cards. This book can be read as a stand alone but I know I am definitely looking forward to reading more in this super fun series and I will definitely be going back to read them all from the series start. The side characters have me intrigued and I want to know more about them as well.

This wonderful author never disappoints and this book is yet another example of her fantastic writing. The lead characters Hunter and Kennedy are wonderful. Kennedy is trying hard to be the absolute best she can be in a very male dominated field all while dealing with a slimy and very sneaky boss! Hunter is focused on his football and looking toward his future career. They definitely were not looking for each other but I think that makes finding love even more special right? This book can be read as a stand alone but I am definitely looking forward to reading more in this super fun series. The side characters have me intrigued and I want to know more about them as well.

Immersive and thought provoking
Absolutely love me and Elemental based paranormal book and this one did not disappoint. I was totally hooked from the first page and the whole world and concept presented was so original I wanted to know more.
Based in the mortal world there are Elementals, pretty much an alien species. Then there are Sleepers hidden amongst the mortals and then there is the Chaolt- pretty much the mortal enemy. I’m not going to say much more as I don’t want to add spoilers but it is all exciting stuff. And yes there is definitely romance – so check out this great first book in the Elemental Warriors Series.

Notebook Mysteries ~ Emma (Notebook Mysteries Book 1) by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Rayne East

Emma (Notebook Mysteries, #1)Emma by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The start of something good
I have loved every book in this series. Unfortunately I read all the others before this one but that just means I will have to read them all again – lol!
It was so great to see where it all began. Emma is a brilliant character – strong willed, full of inspiration and desire to help others. The book has suspense, drama and mysteries to be solved and 16 year old Emma is right at the forefront ready to do some sleuthing. The world building is excellent with the imagery of the township and townspeople so vividly depicted. Even though each book is a new mystery I highly recommend that the series be read in order as there are ongoing threads that develop throughout the series.

We knew the bloodbath was possible, just not when or how our enemies would strike. In a heart-wrenching minute of blazing guns, the responsibility of getting retribution for the savage Italian Crime Family falls to me, Salvatore Larussio.

The fair-skinned beauty should focus on doing as she’s told and been trained to do. Suture and bandage quickly to stem the flow of Larussio blood. Instead, Natasha boldly defies me, trying to appeal to decency that after today no longer exists.

A man surrounded by fear and deception can sense it, feel it, and smell it in the air. There’s far more to Natasha underneath that icy exterior than she wants me or anyone to know. Despite that, she calls to my tainted soul as though she were put on earth just for me.

When I force the hot-tempered beauty to reveal her secrets, it can be our undoing, or a means to an end for a newly appointed Larussio King.

Or a revelation that will kill even the deepest of love.

Boss’s Vendetta is the explosive first book in the Sicilian Gods series by Via Mari. It is a deliciously dark, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, mafia romance. You will love these novels where the passion is fiery, the loyalty is fierce, and the stakes are high. Each book is a standalone that focuses on different couples in each book. They all have a guaranteed happily ever after, at the conclusion.

Break The Darkness (The Vigilant #2.5) by LM Preston – Review by Angela Hayes

Break The Darkness (Vigilant, #2.5)Break The Darkness by L.M. Preston
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars

Break the Darkness is book #2.5 in the Vigilant series by L.M. Preston. This story is from Rei’s point of view, so this book is building on what we have previously experienced and lets us dive deeper into things- which is all helping to build a bigger picture of what is going on.
Again, as with the rest of the series, this is an action-packed YA fantasy with paranormal/supernatural/sci-fi elements, action, adventure, mystery, drama, danger, emotion, challenges, agendas, magic, secrets, family, choices, and more.
This could be read as a standalone, but you would be missing out on all the other stories, character introductions, and interesting background information that will help you better appreciate this book, and the series as a whole- as well as adding to the bigger picture that is being painted.
This series is definitely getting better and better the further we go. Looking forward to reading more!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, L.M. Preston.

Grave Digger Academy (Grave Digger Academy Book 1) by C.A. King – Review by Dahnielle Hibbert

Grave Digger AcademyGrave Digger Academy by C.A. King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Family secrets, hidden magical talents and a school no one wants to be at all add up to a humorous, adventurous, fantastical, world. Makayla ends up where no one wants to be, The Grace Digger Academy and while there she begins to find out she has undiscovered abilities, plus some long buried family secrets. This was a quick read and an enjoyable one. The character development and storyline were well thought out and kept my attention from the beginning to the end.

Jake (Billionaire Blind Dates Book 1) by Toni Denise – Review by Tina Vega

Jake (Billionaire Blind Dates Book 1)Jake by Toni Denise
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Jake” started off as more of a slow burn than I expected. Beginning felt awkward even more than just blind date awkward. The concept of the way relationship started was interesting. As the story progressed, it definitely picked up speed and steam. The bumps in the road didn’t feel like real challenges to their relationship. Overall, great plot and sweet romance! I’m reading the next ones definitely!

Notebook Mysteries ~ Emma (Notebook Mysteries Book 1) by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Dahnielle Hibbert

Emma (Notebook Mysteries, #1)Emma by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Set in post civil war Chicago this fun, adventurous novel is the first in this series. I have read several of the books in this series and decided after the last one that I should go back and read them in order and include the beginning of Emma’s story in that. I absolutely love this series! The characters are very well developed (even the secondary characters) and you will love, hate, laugh and cry with them. If you haven’t read this series it is so worth your time and if you have read some in this series but not in order it is so worth your time to go back and do it in order!

Jake (Billionaire Blind Dates Book 1) by Toni Denise – Review by Sarah King

Jake (Billionaire Blind Dates Book 1)Jake by Toni Denise
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Four blind dates- what can it hurt to get his friends off his back. Jake is tired of the women he meets just being after his money. Lauren is focused on her goals and making her way on her own. What will happen when the two each agree to a blind date set by a friend, or in Jake’s case 4 dates? Will they find what they didn’t even know they were looking for? Will the money be a breaking point between the two? Will their difference actually be a good thing?

I really enjoyed this story. It was a well written, page turner. I loved the characters, not just the main two but the supporting characters as well. I cant wait to see how the rest of the guys turn in the hot seat play out. I would absolutely recommend reading this story. I know I am ready to dive into the next in the series.

Dinosaur Friends: 2 books in 1: A Present for the Volcano and Saving Conifer’s Eggs by Lois Wickstrom – Review by Anantha Rusum

Dinosaur Friends: 2 books in 1: A Present for the Volcano and Saving Conifer's EggsDinosaur Friends: 2 books in 1: A Present for the Volcano and Saving Conifer’s Eggs by Lois Wickstrom
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I got these two books because my 10 year old is a dino nerd. He reads all kinds of dinosaur books . These books have two simple stories, both revolving around an Ankylosaurus and a T-Rex. In the first story, the Ankylo, Spike wants to give a present to a Volcano which is dormant and would’nt erupt. He builds a necklace out of rocks around the Volcano, and when the volcano indeed erupts , it is the necklace which stops the lava from overflowing to the ground.

In the second story, the two dinosaurs have to escape the wild fire. When the T-Rex , Conifer is finding it hard to take three eggs in her two hands, Spike accidentally knocks down a tree by impatiently swinging his tail. The two dinosaurs escape the forest into the river on the tree.

What is not to like about these books, nothing. This book is meant for kids, and me and my son had a blast reading these books. Looking forward to more on dinosaur series from this author.

Curse of the Elf Lord (Kingdom of the Elf Lords Book 2) by Heidi Vanlandingham – Review by Stephanie Nicole

Curse of the Elf Lord (Kingdom of the Elf Lords Book 2)Curse of the Elf Lord by Heidi Vanlandingham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

While this is the second book in the series I think I’m even more in love than I was with the first. While I am a huge book nerd what book nerd doesn’t love a good fantasy full of elves, romance, drama, suspense and more. The characters were all very well written, the story felt like it picked right up where book one left off, and the suspense and drama had me on the edge of my seat as I followed along this journey. But probably my favorite thing about this whole novel what the ending. The ending is absolutely perfect I can’t wait for book three.

Grave Digger Academy (Grave Digger Academy Book 1) by C.A. King – Review by Betsy Melano

Grave Digger AcademyGrave Digger Academy by C.A. King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’m so happy I picked up this book to read. I’ve enjoyed several books by this author so I jumped at the chance to read the first book in the new series. A fun young adult paranormal book that includes a first year witch who finds herself at the Grave Digger Academy when her hopes were to attend better academies that were available. How will Makayla survive this low point, deal with a villain, and still learn valuable knowledge to be something more?
Makayla is young and just figuring out things in life. She is challenged not only by things she is learning at the academy but also things she didn’t expect. The new environment and friends help her find her way and experience life away from family. It kind of reminded me of when I went to college and had to figure out life.

Grave Digger Academy II (Grave Digger Academy Book 2) by C.A. King – Review by Santana Hicks

Grave Digger Academy IIGrave Digger Academy II by C.A. King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book of the Grave Digger Academy series and it did not disappoint. I read the first one last year and thought I would lost when I decided to read the second one a year later but it was really easy to get back into the groove. The way the author writes is really easy to follow and they really know how to broaden their horizons. I have read a few different works from this author and each book has a completely different genre and world. The author does not disappoint.

It is Makayla’s second year in the academy and due to the shenanigans of the first year, the Headmistress has decided to forgive and forget if Makayla and her small group of friends attend the academy games. The group starts training for the games with little hope of winning them. All the while Makayla is still on the lookout for Wholly who has not been seen since last year.

Can the academy win the games and will Wholly show up to take revenge on Makayla? Read the second book now!
