River Witch by Cheryl Burman – Review by Jess Dimmock

River WitchRiver Witch by Cheryl Burman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A beautiful tale of the struggles of the women who don’t fit the mold and refuse to conform. This is the tale of Hester, and her connection to nature as she grows up. Her refusal to become what is expected of her by society, her family, and everyone in her life.
Burman manages to convey the despair, struggle, hope, and triumph that Hester and most likely so many women have gone through throughout the ages in their struggle to become more than the sum of what is expected of them. She manages to do this with grace in a setting that is burgeoning with beauty. There are so many characters throughout that, while secondary add to the story and make it so much more robust without being a distraction.
In short this book is a masterpiece and should be in collections everywhere.
