Shanessa Gluhm had me in a choke hold from the first page and didn’t let go until the very end. This novel kept me up into the wee hours of the night because I had to know what was going to happen next and I was furiously tapping on my Kindle to get the pages to turn faster. This is the gripping tale of Sloan and Ridge and the lies that tore their family apart for years. A River of Crows has so many twists and turns I got whiplash. I cannot praise this book enough. If you love thrillers, family drama, and really not knowing what’s going to happen until right before it happens, pick this book up right now!

Elle Sullivan returns to her hometown of Sweet Valley in the hopes of leaving the life she lived in LA behind her. Feeling frightened and alone, Elle is unsure what reaction to expect from her family that she has not spoken to in years. When her family welcome her home with open arms, she feels relieved, but is still nervous and on edge as she flees her past life. Elle is determined to get a fresh start, so she pushes her fear to the side, puts on a brave face, and throws herself into helping her family fix up the family ranch.
What Elle did not count on facing was her childhood sweetheart, Blake, still living in Sweet Valley. When she runs into him immediately after returning home old feelings start to surface. Blake is just as surprised to see Elle and is forced to come to terms with his feelings for the girl he never got over. After Elle left, Blake’s life started to spiral downwards, and when she returned, he had finally hit rock bottom. When Elle needs help around the ranch fixing it up, she offers Blake the chance to help her. She feels that this will give him the chance to sober up and start getting his life back on track. In the process, Elle, and Blake work together to help one another get their lives back and build a brighter future.
Warning, this has some sensitive subject matter and may cause triggers. It also has some strong language that may offend some. As a survivor of domestic violence this book was a hard read for me. It had a lot of triggers and dredged up some painful memories of my own past with my abuser.
As hard as it was to read about what Elle had gone through it was truly inspiring to see how courageous she was as she pushed through her fears and trauma. Moving forward after abuse is hard to do and there is always a part of you that feels scared and vulnerable. It is difficult to face those fears head-on and push through them so that you can create a better life for yourself. I appreciate how difficult this was for not only Elle, but for Blake as well. Facing the demons of your past like Elle and Blake had to do is scary and requires inner strength and courage that you do not even realize you have.
I loved Elle’s family and the love they had for one another. It was heartwarming to see how they stood together no matter what. It pulled on my heartstrings when her family embraced Elle with open arms even after years without speaking. They were there for her, no questions asked, and without judgement. That brought tears to my eyes and truly moved me. Even the way the small community was so close-knit, and all pulled together was truly inspiring. This was a beautiful read full of gut-wrenching emotions and hard topics like domestic violence and alcoholism. The author did a good job of writing about these sensitive topics and making the characters relatable.

This story is a really whodunit tale. On one foot you are watching a mother and daughter move to a new town and on the other you are helping them solve a murder mystery. Who says that when moving to a new town things won’t be exciting? For Naomi and Ella their life was already changing but to find a body in their new home’s outside building throws so much more chaos. A quick and good read.

Sloan Hadfield’s life was changed forever in 1988 when her younger brother disappeared while on a fishing trip with their father. Although Ridge’s body was never recovered their father was charged for his murder and sent to prison. It was suspected that their father killed Ridge while in the midst of one of the blackouts he was prone to having from his flashbacks of his time spent in Vietnam. After Ridge’s death his mother started to spiral out of control and slowly descend into madness that had her repeatedly being admitted into a mental facility. After her mom was committed to a mental health facility long-term, Sloan moved away to attend college and start a life of her own.
Twenty years after her brother’s death, Sloan is forced to return home to look after mother who has been released from the mental health facility. Sloan is reluctant to return home because of the painful memories from her past but she is the only family her mom has left. After suffering from a recent divorce, she really has nowhere else to call home. Seeing her childhood home dredges up her painful childhood and how much she misses her brother, and her childhood prior to his death. They were once a happy family but now she feels lost, alone, and bitter at how her life turned out.
Missing her brother, Sloan visits their favorite place, Crow’s Nest Creek, which also is where he was last seen. This is the place Sloan, Ridge, and their childhood friend, Noah, spent countless hours watching the crows. This is the one place that helps her feel close to her brother and where she feels a sense of calm. Sloan still has numerous unanswered questions about her brother and what happened to him twenty years ago and starts reliving the moments leading up to his disappearance. When the body of another young boy who disappeared around the same time as her brother is discovered Sloan starts to wonder if the two disappearances were somehow linked. As she starts to ask questions and search into her brother’s disappearance, Sloan is shocked at the secrets that are revealed. The truth shocks her to her core.
This book was intense and impossible to put down! I was a bit upset when I was interrupted a few times while trying to read it because I needed to see what happened next. I was not prepared for the twists and turns the storyline took and I am certain I gasped out loud at points throughout as the truth behind Ridge’s disappearance were revealed. The storyline was well developed, well laid out, and clearly thought out from start to finish.
The characters were ones that I immediately felt a connection to. Sloan was to be admired for standing by her mom no matter how bad things got. Caroline was one that I both loved and hated at the same time. As I was able to catch a glimpse into her past, I could empathize with her because of the trauma she has been through. This helped to explain her actions to a certain extent. However, it is not a reasonable excuse for her outrageous behavior and violent outbursts. When Sloan made excuses for her, or covered up and lied for her mom, it made me want to slap her. Yet, at the same time, I could understand that she still loved her mom and wanted to protect her. It was a true rollercoaster ride for me as I felt the emotions alongside each character. This book had action, suspense, drama, intrigue, lies, hidden agendas, betrayal, sinister family secrets, and a lot of information about crows. I have a whole new outlook on the lives of crows and a whole new respect for them. This book did not disappoint and I will definitely be looking for more by this incredibly talented author!

I really enjoyed this story. The author has an amazing way of gripping the reader within the first chapter and not letting them go. I read this book in one sitting as I just couldn’t put it down. There are so many secrets and lies to uncover and it deals with some sensitive subjects such as grief and mental illness.
Sloan has had a hard childhood. After witnessing her father attack her mother in violent outbursts she is always on edge however things go from back to worse when her brother is murdered. This event completely sends Sloan’s life spiralling as her mother’s mental health declines and her father is arrested and charged with her brother murder the only thing she want to do is escape. Years later Sloan is forced to return to her home town when her mother checks herself out of the mental health facility she was placed in. On her return Sloan now has to finally face up to the demons of her past and with her fathers release from prison finally come to terms with what happened to her young brother. However the story isn’t as it seems and as all the secrets and lies begin to unravel we are shown the truth of what happened to Sloans family and why. This was a great read. The twists and turns I couldn’t see coming which meant I couldn’t stop reading till I reached the end.

What a twisty turny mystery! I enjoy the way this author writes her book. It is a lot of flash bang then the mystery that follows and explains the Bang. Everything is not as it would seem. I enjoyed all the crow analogies..very interesting. There are quite a few characters but the story revolves around just a handful. So many times I await the other shoe to drop especially in the second half. I keep thinking I know what happened or is happening…sometimes I was right and others I was wrong. I had mixed feelings about who I feel sorry for and who I disliked or liked. It really fluctuated up and down as the story moved along. I really have a lot to say about all the characters but I can not without giving something away.
Revenge never hurts only one person because secrets always rise to the surface.

This book is the 7th in this incredible crime/mystery. The loveable characters, Maddie and Mike are back and ready to dive into another round of crazy cases. As PI’s they find their workload a bit overwhelming with the incoming volume of new cases, but the main focus is for a missing bookkeeper. This book follows the cute married couple through their adventure into mysteries, claims of embezzlement, strange disappearances and more.
As usual this author provides a lot of twists and turns. You will thoroughly enjoy reading due to the easy flow of the plot. Also you may find that the ending was not as you thought it would be.
Overall it was a wonderful read and a great addition to this series!

This book was so steamy I needed to fan myself. I thought it would be at least a little cringey, but NOPE! The characters were lovely, I loved them together they complement each other nicely, balance each other out. The ending felt a little rushed but overall the book was paced well. Yeti Left Home is not what I expected at all. The author does an amazing job with the development of the characters especially Wylie Kang, the Yeti. The other characters complement each other very well. The plot of the story easily flows from the beginning to the end. The book is very well written and very relatable to everyday life.

The only poetry I had read before this was in a college English class, and this is nothing like it. The only similarity is that you need a dictionary nearby, but other than that, this was a completely different experience. This poetry was fun, it was trippy, it really opened my eyes and my MIND. Such a great read for adventure readers young and old. Noah is a super smart teen who puts all his hopes on a summer camp with the supers. I really was not sure I’d like this book when I started reading, it seemed to be a normal boring book but then bam it smacks you in the face. It is such an original story with so much detail but not too much to overwhelm you. I loved it. Could not put it down. If it wasn’t for me having to go to work the next day, I would’ve finished it within a few hours. I absolutely loved the saying at the beginning and end as well. The book was perfectly written and I cannot read more by Courtney Davis.

I don’t have enough praise for this book. I loved Raising Elle. A story of a battered woman coming home and trying to get her life together without looking over her shoulder but her secret is big. Amazing storyline, my favorite is when the secret comes out. You never know with parsnips.

Naomi and her daughter Ella move to a new small town after a divorce. They stumble upon a dead body in the barn the first day there, and the rest of the book focuses on solving the “whodunnit.” The banter and discussions with their next door neighbors and other townfolk (like the HVAC technician) make this a quick but highly enjoyable read, with the plot moving quickly.
I can’t wait to read the other two books in this series, and love the little quirks thrown in (like a teacup collection) and how everything can (or can’t) be solved by a strong cup of tea. Most cozy mysteries I find pointless or dry, but it is not the case for A Spot of Earl Slay.

The mystery continues This is the eighth book in The Madeline Dawkins Mystery Series and once again it was a thrilling ride. The author delivers a compelling story filled with many interwoven high stakes cases that Madeline and her team need to work through. I was glued from start to finish. This is one series that stays strong the whole way through. Highly recommend.

Tristan, a firefighter, cannot forget about the red haired angel he rescued. Riley, a private investigator, cannot forget her blue eyed hero. Fate keeps jumping in to have these two encounter each other and find love. I’d state this is a solid 3-3.5 stars for me but rounded up because I have hopes for this series to keep getting better. Things I enjoyed about this story was the relationship that developed between Riley and Tristan. I also enjoyed the suspense that was added into the story, although it was a highly predictable level of mystery. The one thing that left me hung up on this read was the initial time jump. With a book this short, the time periods were so quick. It just wasn’t a good flow for me but the storyline was good. I would have preferred to begin with initial meeting rather than a future meeting of our main characters. Overall good read and hoping the storyline continues nicely through this series.

Madeline is off on another case when an old friend asks her and her team to help solve some missing monies within her husband’s company. So while the team investigates the missing bookkeeper, the case gets more and more stranger.
As Madeline runs into another case from a child who are worried regarding their father’s younger fiancée and wonder if she is all cracked up to be, but as her team delves into the case they are struggling to find any information on her, but strangely things are starting to cross over in all the cases and, Madeline is left wondering what is going on. Can she solve were the missing bookkeeper is, tackle the gold digger fiancée and understand how everything seems to lead back to single point.
I love this series and as this is the seventh book in the series, all the books can be read as stand alone stories, the author is really good at filling you in on some of the history of the main characters and you go, but if you have enjoyed this book I recommend you read the others as you will not be disappointed.
I love the way that Madeline, Mike and the team work together to solve the mysteries and that you feel like you become a Honorary member of the group. The story flows brilliant through the clues and conversations which you devour with enthusiasm and can’t wait to carry on to see the outcome.
Please keep writing more as I think I am totally addicted to them now and would miss to be part of the group. Thank you.

Even with the serious challenges faced in this second=chance romance, Elle and Blake find their way back to each other. What makes this story to endearing and heartwrenching is the work they both put into it. I felt every moment and emotion of the pain they felt. Their story of second=chance romance is one worth reading. There are touch topics but it’s worth charging through. Love is hard and their are many blockades. The author did a fantastic job of making this story relatable through her writing with the the characters, the plot and the overall tone of the book. I would love to see more with Elle’s sisters finding their loves.

Boy, Jade stepped from one heap of trouble into a paranormal heap of trouble. Baal, a snake shifter, enters her life, as she starts a new life in WiTSEC. Oh, I found the drama and all the critters in the story quite entertaining. It is a pretty basic story yet the author gave us a intriguing look at how Jada came to find out about herself and her powers. Exploding with her light and energy in the field was my favorite part. I found the characters to be enough that they kept me wanting more. The plot had a few glitchy spots but it was enough to keep reading. I would love more about this crazy town full of paranormal craziness hidden among it. The romance helps also.

Lyle had a protector, someone who would not let anything bad happen to him, seeing that Kyle had no where to go he invited him back home where his family adopted him, but although Kyle left one abusive family he was plunged into another one but he had a purpose to protect Lyle and his mother.
Until that faithfully night when the world changed and Lyle and Kyle got plunged into world of Love and heartbreak.
For such a short book it certainly packs a punch. I have to say there are alot of triggers in this book regarding abuse and although harrowing to read this adds an add depth to the characters to show they have overcome or trying to overcome the past. The relationship between the main characters is a heartfelt journey of forbidden love, jealous and utter heartbreak which will have you just in bits about.
The story was well written and although complex at times draws you in from the first word to the end, I can’t wait to read the next book as you left us hanging there Ms Sand and am on the edge of my seat to see what happens.

5 Stars A Curse of Ash and Iron by Christine Norris
A Curse of Ash and Iron is a Steampunk/ YA with hints of fantasy and is a wonderful retelling of the children’s classic Cinderella but with a different kind of twist. I truly enjoyed this retelling of a classic more than I thought I would. I loved being pulled in from the beginning and the twists and turns had me turning the pages trying to figure out what was going to happen in this version. Let me tell you what I wasn’t disappointed in the least in fact I loved it. Ellie has spent several long years under her stepmother’s watchful eye since her mother’s death. She was hidden in plain sight yet Ellie wondered if she’d ever escape. Then there’s Ben who seems to be immune to the magic . Time is quickly running out and New Year’s Eve is approaching fast and they still need to find a way to break the curse before midnight if they don’t her and her father will be bound forever . I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

Oh my stars. The heat coming off of this book was just so amazing. I knew I was going to love Riley, right from the start. Tristan stole my heart, in that way only Tristan can. So much chemistry between them. The passions, the bantering, the mystery, the suspense. You will not want to put this book down!!! @Elena Kincaid, thank you for such amazing characters and an amazing story. I’ll definitely be reading more of her work!!!

5 Stars Fiddle and Fire (Hearts of Gold Book 2) by Ariella Talix
Fiddle and Fire is the second book in the Hearts of Gold Series. This is a MMF Historical Romance with just the right amount of hot and steamy. I’m a fan of Historical Romance and throw in some MMF and I’m a gonner. I loved everything about this book from the characters that are fully developed and real they bring the story to life. The story flowed so flawlessly that I devoured it in one afternoon. Suzette and her brother just moved to San Francisco and she met Isaac and Walter . These two gentlemen have been friends for a long time. Is there more to their relationship than friendship? These three definitely have chemistry. Who will she choose? Can she have both? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next . I look forward to seeing what this author brings us next.

5 stars I love a Dark Paranormal Romance tale and Sinister Styx certainly delivers on that. Corpse Pixie is another original and captivating read by Sinister. It is a quick short read. Being such a great read makes me wish it was longer but it packs so much in to a punch as it is. I don’t know where Sinisters stories come from but I love the uniqueness of them making for delightfully refreshing reads. This cleverly woven tale has a plot that is well thought out and a narrative that draws you in. Of course the story would not be complete without things that go bump in the night like zombies, witches, fae, hunters and demons and much more. Leaving the ending open makes way for some more delicious darkness to come. I can’t wait. If you are a Dark Paranormal lover then I highly recommended reading any of Sinister Styx’s work. There is no way you will be disappointed. No spoilers here because the story is so short you will have to read it to find out what happens.

A Curse of Ash and Iron by Christine Norris is a YA steampunk retelling of the classic fairytale: Cinderella. Set in 1876 the story is full of historical details, some sci-fi elements, magic, fantasy, curses, secrets, romance, high stakes, a bit of a love triangle, angst, and drama. From the blurb and the cover, I really expected this to be a full-blown steampunk story, in a steampunk world- but it is more of an historical Cinderella retelling, with steampunk elements. So, I don’t know if my expectations are why I didn’t fully connect with this story, or not. I just didn’t ‘feel’ it like I was wanting to. As I really wanted to FLOVE this book, but it just didn’t live up to my expectations. The characters really frustrated me to no end. So, I found it so hard to ‘care’ about them and what was happening in the story. And as a result, I was left feeling disappointed. I might have to revisit this book in the future to see if I still feel the same way, or if perhaps I was having an ‘off’ reading day… If you love steampunk elements added to a classic fairytale, clean romance, and YA fantasy, then this might just be the book for you. It is a bit of a psychological mystery, with some sci-fi elements, intrigue, agendas, quirky characters, twists, and dramatic developments.
