This is the first book in the House on the Hill series. The concept of this book appealed to me, put psychological thriller and haunted house in the same blurb and I’m in.

The writing was descriptive, painting a vivid picture of both the scenery and the characters. The tension built throughout as more and more occurs to unsettle the residents and us as readers. I felt this was done very well, especially with the twists in place, throwing you and what you thought you knew.

I thought telling the story through differing points of view was interesting, it’s not something I’ve come across too often in this genre, but it’s not a bad thing. I think it worked well for this story.

This book ends on a cliffhanger which is frustrating, but only because I am now desperately waiting for the next book to be released to find out what happens and I’m very impatient!

Maria has finally gotten something she wants: a divorce. Unfortunately, that divorce leaves her with no plan and no house. Her family is a traditional, no nonsense nuclear unit so going home won’t work. Her next best option is going to LA to spend some time with her sister the rock star.

Except, she’s not in LA. She’s run off to Missouri to plan a wedding that Maria is supposed to be at.

Thank goodness for Oz Garcia whose house sitting for her and lets Maria crash while they’re away. Suddenly he’s offering to go to Missouri with her for the wedding, she’s offering to sleep with him, all the while, Maria is now financing Oz’s band…so she’s his boss.

Things are about to get messy…

This was a fun, upbeat and romantic rock star romance with a second chance vibe. I found it to be a whole lotta fun, and I’m excited to see what else this series of books can bring to the table.

Highly recommend if you love fast read romances and rock star tropes!

A Way Out is Book 2 in the Rock Star series. The books are stand-alone, so there is no risk of confusion. The story follows Maria, who is fleeing to her sister’s house after she’s kicked out of her home by her recently divorced husband. Her sister is away preparing for her wedding but Maria stumbles upon Oz who is house-sitting. I really liked this story. It felt like a grown-up, realistic romance. We get to watch as Maria finally finds true love. Oz is such a kind and perfect man for Maria. The story had the right amount of romance and conflict. I fell in love with Oz. This is a very good romance.

Smooth Hoperator is the second book in the Love on Tap series. This can be read as a standalone book, but best enjoyed after reading the first book in the series. Carter left his life behind in DC, and his family is unsure of the details. Sunny is a quirky librarian who can’t take her eyes off Carter during his frequent visits to the library. I always enjoy reading books by this author, and this did not disappoint. The story is a bit slow-burn but definitely worth staying with the story. Carter and Sunny are a great pairing in this book. I love how they are opposites and the interactions this creates. There are some suspenseful moments, but they are an integral part of the story. I won’t give away more because I don’t want to wreck the story for anyone. I look forward to reading more from this series and this author in the future.

This is a unique collection of stories with a creative twist on the classic fairy tales. Trying to decipher which fairy tale inspired each story was an additional layer to my enjoyment while reading.

I think what I loved most was how the stories weren’t just modern retellings, some ‘origins’ were very difficult to decipher. By the author’s own admission in the beginning of the book, the stories went through many iterations of change to become what they are now, and I think it’s amazing what they were able to achieve.

Another thing I found impressive was the author’s ability to switch between different styles in writing. Each story was unique not only in storyline, but in the way it was written. Timelines were different, 1st person/3rd person narratives were used, some written as letters and so on. The author clearly has a lot of range and it’s brilliant.

I hope to read more from this author in future as I absolutely loved this display of the author’s talents!

The Master of Demise follows Mitch Wegner, a well rounded and respected college professor. He is happily married to Emily, who owns her own yoga studio with regular clients. Everything seems to be absolutely normal and perfect. Even with the ideal life, Mitch is just somehow unlikeable. I found myself disliking him early on, and can not pinpoint why. When a student takes his own life, and his journal shows a strong dislike for the professor, suspicion falls onto Mitch. This creates a downward spiral of events for the professor. His students no longer respect him, his wife becomes distant, and he suspects she may even be having an affair with her yoga partner. With flashbacks from a traumatic experience in his teen years, things seem to be making a full circle right back to him. As things continue he becomes paranoid, feeling framed, and increasingly aggressive and self absorbed. He was already an unpleasant character, but his personality really amplifies as time goes on and you really do not like him at all. I even began thinking maybe he DID have some involvement, just because I did not like him that much. After all that has happened, can Mitch save his marriage and career? WAS he framed, and if so, by who, and/or why? Once you get to the big reveal, you will be shocked and realize the author strategically gave you hints along the way. I have never read anything from this author before, but I will be checking into her other work! 5 out of 5 stars!

The Misery House

This is a psychological thriller that is absolutely that is filled with so many twists ands turns. This is the first of a three part series and I absolutely cannot wait to read the rest of the books! It takes place in such a quiet small town that is hiding so many secrets! This is a multiple POV book that does this type of story telling very well. The story telling is what is what makes the story what it is. This story is absolutely amazing an it definitely sucks you in with all the creepiness. I cannot recommend this enough. I also am waiting anxiously for the rest of the series. I loved the authors storytelling abilities and want to read even more about this small town and the house on the hill!

The House of Arsceneaux is part of the Servants of Morrigan: Immortal Creatures series. It is a vampire paranormal story that centers around the story of fated mates Caitlin and Evariste. All Caitlin wants to do is go on holiday, but her boss has other plans for her. He insists that she cut into her personal time for a meeting at a property that could mean a huge business deal. The owner is a no-show because he is not interested in selling the property. Caitlin meets Evariste, the owner of the property, at a dinner party being given by his sister and he immediately believes that she is the reincarnation of his late wife. She has no recollection of her past, but he insists that she is his soul mate that he was separated from centuries ago. Evariste encourages Caitlin to travel back in the past with him so that he can show her that they were indeed soul mates that were hopelessly in love. Caitlin is uncertain if she should trust him but if she does not then she risks losing out on the possibility of being reunited with her one true love. I loved the overall love story of Caitlin and Evariste and how it is a testament to true love overcoming being torn apart by time and distance. The characters were ones that I felt a connection to, and I found myself rooting for them to be together after being separated years ago. This was a great read full of action, suspense, danger, drama, secrets, lies, vampires, and love through the centuries.

First book in a series, quick read, loved the relationship between the two characters cant wait to read more. Will they get married? Will they fall in love with each other? Have to read the story to find out what happens with the two characters. Will read more in the series as this is a first time author for me I enjoyed the whole story.
I give this book 4 stars.

A Way Out (Rock Star Book 2)

I did not read the first book of the series but I wish I had. It wasn’t necessary to follow Maria and Oz’s story but I’m one of those people that needs to know everything.

Maria is an amazing mom and will do what she needs to for her daughter Riley which is how it should be. Starting over after a divorce and no job had to be scary but she knew her sister would help her out.

Oz has stepped to help his Mom, nieces and nephew financially by killing himself working three jobs along with trying to get recognition for he and his band. Thankfully they have good people there to assist.

I enjoyed reading this book and will be keeping up with this series.

With nowhere to live and a need to get away for a bit she decides to leave town to visit her sister. When she arrives at her sister’s house, she discovers that her sister is in another state preparing to get married. A sexy stranger named Oz is in her sister’s home and Maria cannot help but be attracted to this fledgling rockstar. Both Oz and Maria are going to attend her sister’s wedding, so they decide to travel together. Along the way the attraction grows, and somehow Maria finds herself agreeing to fund Oz’s fledgling rock band. Now she is technically his boss and business and pleasure never mix. The problem is they are attracted to one another. Can they have both business and pleasure, or will they have to choose? A well written story with emotional ups and downs and great characters that you immediately feel a connection to. Oz has a heart of gold and will do anything to support his family. Maria has been through a tough marriage and she and her daughter have been kicked to the curb after a bad divorce. Their stories really tug at the heartstrings, and you find yourself rooting for things to work out for both Maria and Oz. I highly recommend this book!

This is book 2 in the Rockstar Series. Even though it is part of a series it can be read as a standalone. This is a rockstar romance. It is full of emotion, challenges, drama and chemistry that is hot and steamy. The author does an amazing job of making the characters relatable and bringing them to life.
This is a story of how a chance meeting between 2 people can end up giving them everything they dreamed of and more.

Maria is a newly divorced woman, with plenty of money but no Home she decides to take a trip to visit her sister who is due to get married. When she arrives at her sisters home she is surprised when she isn’t home however her friend Oz is housesitting.
Oz and Maria decided to travel to the wedding together and along the way their chemistry starts to grow.

Oz is a member of a band who are trying to find their feet. With all the money that Maria has she offers to financially back his band but what will happen to their relationship? Should they mix business with pleasure? How will Oz cope with Maria being his boss?
This story is full of hurdles that they must work through if they have a chance of making this work.

A Toast for Laurent (Vine Valley Book 1) by Theresa Paolo. I had to pick up this book because I actually made a bet with one of my friends that if we weren’t married by 40 we would get married. Luckily I got married in my 20’s to someone else so I didn’t have to call in that favor. This story is the first in the Vine Valley series. Its a cute story about Laurent who was in love with Phoebe years ago and she broke his heart. When she comes sailing back into his life 20 years later wanting to call in their bet he is shocked. Laurent would never turn his back on Phoebe so he goes along with it but makes her promise to not fall in love with him because he can’t get hurt again. She agrees even though she already has feelings for him but thinks she can get away with it. I really enjoyed this book even though I got aggravated at both characters and their hard heads. I can’t wait to read more in this series. A fun sweet read!

This story is so full of twists and turns. Once it gets going it is hard to stop. The events that take place are amazing as well as intense. Love this story, hope you do too.

This book started out very slow in my opinion. This was super difficult for me to get into, but I have a a general rule about never DNF a book. In this case I am so glad that I have that rule because about ⅓ of the way through this book it got so amazingly good. I did not want to put it down at all. It just is getting through the beginning part of the book, which really sets up the characters and whos who and the general switching of points of view. The author is also very descriptive. It is absolutely vivid and there is no doubt how descriptive things are. The actual suspense is really good and I truly loved the story line. It is such a good book overall and I definitely recommend reading it! I will say that I did not read the coin and I do not know if it would have helped to have read it to help with the beginning part. I definitely recommend reading this book! I did love the twist of the strange maniac who was obsessed with obtaining Gabriella’s manuscript and stopping at nothing to obtain it. Overall it is a very good read that I recommend filled with twists and turns.

The Master of Demise by Nadija Mujagic. This is my favorite genre so I was so excited to read this book and I was not disappointed. I didn’t want to put it down which to me is the number one sign of a great book. Its the story of Mitch who is a college professor, happily married and seems like he has it all together. When one of his students commits suicide and leaves a note saying that Mitch and his class was the final straw everyone blames Mitch. His whole world falls apart. His wife leaves him and then he find himself going down a dark and twisted path making decisions that lead him to bad places. When another student dies everyone automatically assumes Mitch killed him so he is the prime suspect. Mitch is even beginning to wonder if there is the psycho side to himself that he doesn’t even recognize. Full of lies, betrayal and death this story is amazing. Mitch sets out to clear his name but ends up getting himself into more danger. This book will keep you flipping pages way past your bedtime!

Man oh man, are you in for a treat with this book! This book had a wonderful and interesting twist when it came to the whole story. I didn’t want to put it down! I had to force myself to go to bed more than once, otherwise I would have stayed up all night reading. Again. Lol. I loved the way the author wrote this book. It’s another take on Immortal Creatures and I just wanted more and more of it. Evariste (aka Gage) is a three hundred year old cursed immortal. His curse started when he lost his wife all those years ago and it’s been plaguing him and his family who were cursed right along with him. He feels the guilt of it all every single day. He throws himself into work, cooking, and fishing. He loves his family and his company, but he doesn’t know all the secrets and lies behind his own life. Caitlin (aka Cate) is on overload. She was recently dumped over a promotion. She is overworked and totally burnt out. Over all, her life is a big old mess right now. Looking forward to a much needed vacation to New Orleans has her hopeful for the much needed time off and away. But of course her boss throws her plans askew. He talks her into staying longer so she can check out a company while she’s on her vacation. Just a small routine background investigation is all it’s supposed to be. But with her luck and how her life is right now, of course it turns out to be way more than what it seemed. She’s forced into the world of Gage’s and his business. When they meet Gage can’t believe his eyes. Or her eyes!! The uniqueness of them stops him in his tracks. He knows them. He can’t help but be drawn to them and her. Can he trust what he sees? Keeping her close so that he can try to spark up some old memories, has him dangling an unwelcomed business proposition up in the air just to keep her around longer. Work won’t keep his quilt at bay when he’s starting into the eyes of his past. Grab this book NOW to read how this story turns out. I don’t want to give anything away, but it’s so good!!! You will not be disappointed at all by this read. Except maybe wanting more like I did! I can’t wait for more from this author!

I was thoroughly captivated by this YA collection of modern fairy tales and each story had me happily turning the pages. The stories include a jealous girl in the land of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, who stole a magical artefact from the fairy tale museum, unlocking a curse that puts her life in danger. In the wilds of the Rocky Mountains, a wild girl has been raised by a wolf pack and is now living with them, whilst an obsessive man studies her, but soon just watching her will not be enough for him. Meanwhile, in a city a storm rages and will wake a boy from his deadly dream, propelling him towards the insidious darkness of his ancestry. The collection of stories centres around the fact that even in our modern times fairy tales are taking place all around us, if we only look close enough! This collection has everything from, fear, fate, magic, darker tales, changelings, selfies and cursed objects, to name a few. The authors descriptive narrative, well defined characters and unique storylines had me hooked throughout, and I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderfully written novel.

I need a Goldilocks like this one!

In this classic retelling of the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Lois Wickstrom has created a new classic with a science twist. Baby Bear has an issue that he needs help with so his family goes on a walk to think about a solution. In the meantime, Goldilocks shows up and does her thing with their home. In the end, Goldilocks teaches the family about the six simple machines that make our lives much easier.

I would recommend all of this author’s books. She writes engaging stories that are also educational. These stories should be in every family library, daycare, school, etc. and would make a great gift for a new family!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I felt that it has the push and pull of the main characters that always leads to an epic story. Maria didn’t start out as a favorite character of mine because she seemed almost weak at the beginning but that did change and she had some amazing character growth throughout the story. I did end up really rooting for her and enjoying who she becomes in this story. Oz is amazing and compassionate. He cares a lot about everyone around and almost has a white knight complex. The story makes you feel like Oz would protect anything and everyone he loves from anything they may face. Don’t get me wrong he does have his moments and they just make him more humanized in the story. I had to keep reading this book just to find out what was going to happen. I needed to know not only what happens between them but also the secondary characters in this book are phenomenal. I hoping that they get books as well because they really helped the story flow and me turning the pages. I highly recommend this book to anyone. That’s it, just to anyone who wants a quick read that will make them feel good but won’t leave a book hangover.

I was gripped by this psychological thriller from start to finish. Set in the small rural town of New Haven and told from different characters points of view, this unsettling story was one which I could not put down. The Woods family have lived in the town forever and are as shocked as everyone else when a string of tragedies occur. First the local store burns down with two bodies inside and then a newlywed couple go missing, and there does not appear to be any leads, leaving the townsfolk worried. When the close knit Woods family’s own children and their friends are put in danger they are willing to risk everything to find out what is going on.
Throughout the story the abandoned, creepy and known to be haunted house sits on the hill, this seems to be where the secrets of the town might be discovered. However, it may be too late for the Woods family and the town. The likeable and relatable Woods family had me captivated from page one, whilst the claustrophobic feel of the setting along with the chilling haunted house were brought vividly to life through the descriptive narrative. I felt completely immersed in this novel, the suspense and terror really built chapter by chapter, and the plot twists and turns kept me guessing as to the outcome of the story. This was a real page turner and as it ends with a cliffhanger, I am now impatiently waiting for book two in this trilogy.

Cruel Start is a very easy and fun read. I really love how Shane and Phoenix are there for each no matter the situation. I like how the characters are slowly complementing each other, especially Aspen and Phoenix. You know the next story is going to be good, especially when the alpha male inserts himself to make sure everything is going to work out whether Aspen asks for help or not.
