Cam Creates a Hero: Growth Mindset Book for Kids (Courage Tales)

4 stars

Cam lived with his foster mom and 2 siblings, Inaya and Loris. He loved to draw. For his school project, he wanted to build a robot. He saw the news where an 8-yr old girl was hurt by her stepmom and was in the hospital. This really upset Cam and he wanted to do something to help children in trouble. He decided to build robot to help protect kids and name him Giorgio.

Cam wasn’t happy with how the robot turned out. The robot’s hand bounced and hit Cam hard enough to knock him out. He had a strange dream where Giorgio was real. He told Giorgio why he was sad and that he had wanted to build a hero bot to help protect kids. Giorgio told Cam he didn’t have to build him to make him real and encouraged him to keep drawing.

While Cam was in the hospital, he saw other children who had been hurt. When he went back home, he was sad for the other children. He used drawing as an outlet for his feelings. He finally realized what Giorgio was trying to tell him so he decided to create a book about Giorgio, a hero robot who helps kids in trouble. He drew Giorgio and wrote down his stories. When he finally finished his book, he took it to the kids in the hospital. While they were reading the book, the pages started glowing and Giorgio appeared. He thanked the kids for believing in him. Giorgio reminded Cam that he can do anything once he sets his mind to it.

I enjoyed reading this book about Cam and his wanting to help other children. It showed that he had a big heart and was determined to do something for others. The illustrations were so colorful and really helped tell the story. This book is in a set called Courage Tales Series / Resilient Foster Youth Heroes. I’m interested to see what else is in store for Cam, Inaya and Loris.
