This author writes a beautiful story with endearing characters that make you laugh out loud, maybe ugly cry and want a friend like Dre. If those things don’t manage to keep the pages turning, the little bits of steam surely will. 😉

Shayla is a single mom of two amazing kids. Shayla’s ex is in prison for being a crappy guy and doing some terrible things. With the help of her best friend Dre, Shayla has put together a life for her and her children. She has a good job, the kids are active and happy.

Burke is Dre’s friend. He is everything Shayla’s ex is not. Tall, beautiful, classy, cultured, nice, funny, caring, and wealthy. Burke has been used for his power, status and money one too many times. Burke has found a unique happiness in this small town, so different from the big city life of LA or NYC.

When Burke shows up one day because Dre can’t, it puts him directly in Shayla’s orbit. Not that they didn’t know each other, both being friends with Dre. But Shayla has managed to stay directly out of his special sunlight because she might have developed a small, teeny-tiny, baby crush on the hot man. Now while in her space, Burke realizes that she isn’t just beauty, but smart, strong, funny and different.

As Burke and Shayla work through their own baggage, they try to figure out what this thing is between them. One bad day, Burke gets some emotional news and decides to get drunk. Shayla, not knowing what caused Burke to be angry and drunk, is triggered. She says something dumb. He is unable to let it go. (Okay, baggage not completely unpacked and shoved in the closet, yet!) All the friends conspire to get these two back together. But will their plan work?

Come to Emerald Creek and find out. Because love is in the air or maybe it is the wine. I think possibly it will be in the garage the next time we visit (hint, hint). This series will quickly find a place on your TBR or in the read pile. It should. It is wonderful.
