Divided Lives by K.R. Mullins. I LOVED this book and I stayed up way too late reading it. Its the story of Lottie the grown daughter of Dora from the Notebook Mystery Series. She is an attorney and its during one of the most infamous court cases in New York. Presiding over this case is Judge John Goff and Lottie is his Court Clerk. He is very demanding and sometimes crosses lines that are for his benefit. Lottie is a successful hard working woman which is rare in these times so she is blazing ways for women. She is also a bisexual which is unheard of during this time. Throw in some blackmail against Lottie and you have a great mystery. This book is just as good and in my opinion even better than the Notebook Mystery Series which is saying a lot because I loved them as well. I hope there will be similar books in the future of this author!
This book was a refreshing story of how to live and grow through tough times in your life. Moby gets a gift from her dad and it’s a flute that she cannot play. She ends up distraught and finally discovers the problem later on in the story. This is a really nice story and nice illustrations for children to enjoy with their parents during reading time!

Fighting Chance was a fast-paced, entertaining read. Kendall, a journalist is on the edge of losing her job as a sports reporter. Chad, a new to MMA fighting ignites a spark in Kendall and she is motivated to get her story. Chad is not eager to share many details about his life or why he fights, but he can’t get Kendall out of his head. Will he persistence and his stubbornness keep them from getting together? I enjoyed this historical crime with an added of the different views from our character, Lottie. By day, she is a job as a legal clerk and presents herself differently, at night…she likes to be in company with a female companion (especially at a time period when this is not acceptable in society). When a case involving a police office is present to Justice Goff, whom Lottie works for, she finds herself not only immersed in the case, but also in blackmail scheme, unknown where this is all stemming from. Lottie tries hard to keep her personal life a secret from her work life and she is trying to figure out this mystery 0f the fallout of her secret. Will Lottie find out whom is behind trying to blackmail her?
Mystery, danger and mystery all wrapped up in a very good story!
Cari Schaeffer has written a witty, fast-paced book. The characters are beautifully written. Olivia, our chef has been dealt quite a hand in life. When life tries to bring her down, she picks herself up with the help of her close friend, Taylor. Olivia faces challenges that kept me turning the pages to find out what else could possibly happen to her. The author did a great job making me feel the joys and struggles that Olivia faced as if I was right next to her. This book had me from the first page to the last, and I would highly recommend reading it.

This boxset contains books 4-7. Book four continues the story of the Mafia Elite. This is Elena and Marco’s story. Elena’s been in hiding but it’s time for her to rediscover her friends and family. With Marco’s help Elena learns many secrets about her past, some including Marco.
This author has given us two more sweet and sexy characters who have their own secrets, their own desires, and their own special way of handling whatever the Mafia life throws their way.
I enjoyed this story; however, I didn’t find Elena the same kind of strength as the past leading female characters, you know, her friends, Sof, Lil, and Em. El is strong in that she survived a life of secret, hidden away from family and friends, she survived many things so her strength shows through in her determination. Marco, however, shows his strength and determination in finding and saving El, more than once and every time she needs him. This author can certain write strong and sexy male characters!
Book 5 which is Ruthless Heir is the next in the reading order and as always, I read this book in one sitting, this author has a way with storytelling that makes me what to read cover to cover. I love her mafia series and this story is no different. The characters, Summer and Luc can handle anything thrown their way. Which is exactly what brings them together. First by chance and then by another chance. This is a stranger to friends to lovers kind of story. And it is pretty perfect.

Collateral Damage is Book 6 and all I can say is welcome back to the Mafia Elite life! This story is about Hailey and the good doctor, Trey. Even though these two have met before and the timing was off, the spark was ignited within them both. And Fate began to work her magic.
I love how “innocent” Trey seems, like he doesn’t notice all of the nurses trying to be next to him or catch his eye. How sweet he is. He wants to save everyone. He understands he can’t but he sure tries to. Even Hailey needs to be saved.
Hailey will do anything to prove to her family she isn’t a waste, to prove she is worthy. She has a crappy family, a mother who doesn’t know she’s there and a step father who is sneaky and slimy. Hailey didn’t know she needed saving until her plan backfires. It seems the good doctor is ready to save the day.
As with the rest of the series this story should be read in order and while it can be read as a standalone, reading the other books will give you a better feel for the closeness of the family.
Book 7 is called Rivals and if you have been following along with the Mafia Elite series you will know that all of the books are intertwined with the others. The action begins in the very first chapter, so hang on. This author really knows how to get things started:

Moby is a young lady who lives with her parents and sticks to the back of class, she doesn’t like to be noticed very much though, she finds school hard and always wants to run away and most of the time, she does. One day, just before her birthday, her dad, who is a marine has to leave on a tour and is going to miss her party, but he gives her a gift and asks her to open it on her birthday, she promises she will and waves him off.
Her birthday arrives and she opens her gift, it is a beautiful bamboo flute, but when Moby tries to play it, it doesn’t work, its broken, so when she speaks to her dad, she complains and he says to just try harder, but she gives up like she has done many tomes before.
Time passes and Moby’s next birthday comes around, but her dad doesn’t send her anything and it makes her sad, so she looks for the abandoned flute and picks it back up, but when it still doesn’t work, she wants to find out why, this is when she finds a letter from her dad and it changes her perspective on the flute completely.
What lesson can Moby learn from the flute her dad gave her and will she learn from it in the end? This is a story of love, hard work and perseverance and that you should never give up on your dreams.

I enjoyed this suspenseful story. This is a new author for me which I look forward to seeing what is next in the future for them. This is a well written story that has twists and turns that you don’t want to miss. They had me sitting on the edge of my seat and turning pages fast. A fast paced story where one girl’s determination means danger and could mean death. I enjoyed how the characters pulled me into the story from the beginning. I enjoyed reading this suspenseful historical story. This is a story that has a little bit of everything in it, from romance to mystery. This is a well written story where the characters bring the story to life. They are realistic and connectable. I enjoyed how they pulled me into the story from the start. This is a fast paced, hard to put down read. It is easy to read and entertaining as well. There is great growth of the plot as well as the characters throughout. You don’t want to miss this suspenseful trial. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future. I highly recommend reading this book.
This author has done it again. She has created a book that not only my daughter enjoyed but one that I also enjoyed reading with her. The book was engaging and fun and based on one of my favourite fairytales. It tells such an important story but on a level that the intended audience will easily understand. This author is quickly becoming a firm favourite in our household and I can’t wait to read more.

I was pleasantly surprised when I started reading this book as I hadn’t realise that, although this story was fictional, it had a basis in true facts. I thought the author did a fantastic job of capturing the era and what it would be like for the heroine. I could easily imagine the scenes been depicted and found the story to be engaging. The storyline was definitely intriguing. There was a lot going on which created a fast paced story. I loved the mix of characters in the book too. I really felt you experienced their lives and the way of life in 1912. This is a well written and interesting story that I would recommend.

There were once again so many characters to choose from. The one character that stuck out the most was Darren. Yes, he is in the first part of the book. This was the first time reading this author and I am so glad I did. Defying Ella is a part of a series but stands alone. Ella and Jared’s Hate /Love relationship is a good read. I could hardly put it down. The story has a little slow start building the characters, but it won’t take long to get going. The way the author writes these characters and how much they don’t like each other is very well done. I don’t want to give away too much, but I will tell my friends about this one. I am going to get the rest of the series to read them.

Ava Vaughan has had enough with her husband Cole Jacobs. She wants to end their marriage. But when Cole says No! She is shocked and wants to know why? It’s not a big request, as Ava loves planning fundraisers. This was a real tear jerker, as I was not expecting to fall so deeply into Ava and Cole’s story. The story is fast paced and keeps you reading and wanting more. The author is among my favorites. So I have read many of her books and she never disappoints. Her characters were lacking communication which she remedies in the end. I love a good second chance romance story. This is all of that.

Historic reads are always good, and this one is no exception. It starts off with multiple jumps, following how Lottie has met and known each character, quickly displacing what time and situation the reader has. Took a few rereads to get acquainted, but once general character introduction and world-building are established, it evens out. We are taken through one general plot, while plagued with another that quickly becomes the main drive for this story. Legal matters eventually lead us to a clerk-led POV, blackmail, all while trying to wade through flashback after flashback. This story has many points and twists to it, and if you enjoy murder mysteries or anything based on true crime, you’ll enjoy this. It includes a main character who seems to have alternate personalities, both strict conservative during the day and open bisexual liberal when the sunsets. It hints at societal issues seen today, yet deals with the placing of the early 1900s. Overall, a good read, it took me a little bit to get into it but ended up finishing with a different viewpoint. I would recommend this book as it ties in romance, historic fiction, fantasy, and the openness of the author and characters.

I love every book in this series. I was so excited for a Christmas story just in time for the cooler weather. I have read the other books in this series, but I don’t believe that you need to read the others to understand this book. This was an enjoyable quick read with lots of action to keep me hanging on. If you want a fun adventure this is the perfect book for you! I highly recommend this series and this book!
This isn’t your typical fantasy book, it is way, way more than that. Hassan has such a huge character development throughout the story and the way the author relates the characters culture into the book has helped me understand more than what I thought I knew. This book is very relatable from the emotions that characters feel in the book. The way the author wraps the fantasy around the adventure peeks your interest and keeps you turning the pages. It really helps by putting the fantasy into reality, if that make sense. The flow from normal to fantasy is breath taking. The creatures in the story were so well written that it makes you feel like they really could exist in the world today. This is not my normal genre but I am very thankful that I stepped out of my comfort join because this book hit on some feels that I didn’t know I was missing. This is the fourth book in the series of Cozy Mysteries to Die For. It is a standalone book. I did not feel like I had missed anything from the prior books in the series. Beck is a newly licensed Private Investigator. Her old college roommate, Jacqueline, wants to hire her for her first paid PI job. While in college Beck did not like how Jacqueline had acted so was hesitant to take the job. Once Beck arrives she sees Jacqueline’s same actions and wonders if she made a mistake. Jacqueline’s father died and the police are saying it was a suicide. However, Jacqueline is determined that it wasn’t, but that it was murder. Beck is there to find out the truth and will do whatever it takes to find out the real answer. I enjoyed this book and it was an easy read.

Moby’s father, a US Marine, leaves her a birthday gift before leaving for military deployment for a year. When Moby opens her gift and discovers it is a flute, she is a bit disappointed because it was not what she was hoping for. Moby is even more disappointed when she tries to play the flute and discovers that it is broken. She puts it to the side and instead tries to focus on school where she wants to make friends and get on honor roll.
However, no matter how hard Moby studies her grades are not good enough to get on honor roll. Feeling discouraged by how things do not seem to be working out for her, Moby picks up the flute and decides to give it another try. When Moby discovers the reason why the flute did not work for her before is because her father had left her a note in it, she begins to understand why her father gave her the flute as a gift. She decides to practice playing music on it and through her playing the flute she learns valuable lessons about hard work, patience, and perseverance.
This was a beautifully written book that teaches some valuable lessons about the importance of never giving up and believing in yourself. The illustrations were extraordinary and exquisitely done. A heartwarming read about self-confidence, courage, and how you should never give up on your dreams. A must read for all ages!

This is the second book in this author’s series. I did not read the first one until after reading this one. I would recommend that you read them in order so that it makes more sense to you. Or at least I wish that I had. This was such a funny, yet gross at times, book. It made me think of Garbage Pail Kids in certain areas. I would not recommend allowing young readers to read this book unless they are into gross morbid oddities. The characters are different. And I mean that quite literally. If you are a fan of horror books or comics like The Walking Dead or Night of the Living Dead then this book is for you. I liked it. I would not however advise giving this book as a gift. It is not a gift giving book. But I do recommend you give it a read if you like monsters, murder, mystery , drama, and laughs.

This book was a recommendation from a friend that knows I enjoy reading historical event books. This one did not disappoint me. And it took me to a time and place I was not familiar with reading. I also must say that I enjoyed having the flow sheet along with the character list at the end of the book. That was a nice addition that I could flip over to when I needed clarification about the facts. The story kept me on my toes and the plot twisted and turned along the way. It was interesting to learn the behind-the-scenes information into the legal system during the early 1900’s. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is a fan of true crime mysteries with a little bit of romance blended in. It really sucked me in.

This is my first time reading this author. I found it to be a quick read that drew me in immediately. The characters were fleshed out pretty quickly and backstories were seamless with present time in the book. I didn’t want to put it down until I figured out what was going to happen. I feel like it was a good first book to a series and I am looking forward to reading more about Link and Ommily.

An enjoyable and engaging sci-fi adventure with an original take on time travel, which had me hooked from start to finish. An advanced physics professor and his student invent a method of time travel, and then adapt it to the original prop time machine from the 1960’s film, ‘The Time Machine’. However, having succeeded in getting the complex mechanism to work the pair struggle to decide what the proper use of the time machine should be. Whilst his student wants to travel back in time to correct a terrible historical wrong from occurring, the professor has a more personal trip back in time planned. He would like to prevent the love affair of his life from ending in a broken hearted romance. This is an intriguing story which had me gripped, whilst the descriptive narrative brought both the settings and the characters vividly to life, making me feel immersed in the storyline.

This is a great historical mystery. I really enjoyed how the author told this story and the concept of the main character basically living 2 separate lives, one with her female partner which at the time was unheard of and the other of a respectable lady in a job that demands respect. This story was interesting and gripping but at times I really felt for Lottie as she struggles to keep both her lives separate, which today we wouldn’t even need to think about or consider.
Lottie works as a legal clerk and when she starts to work on a criminal case involving a police officer it becomes a job with more risks than you could even imagine. Lottie finds herself being blackmailed but who is doing it and what do they hope to gain from it? Now we have to follow Lottie as she tries to uncover who is behind the blackmail and try to save her personal life from coming out in the open and affecting her professional life. After being so careful with keeping personal and professional separate who could know about her preferences and would be willing to use it against her to get what they want? And how does it all link to the trial she is working on of Officer Charles Becker.
I really enjoyed this book and I couldn’t stop reading until I found out who was behind it all. The historical twist was nice and the insight into Lottie’s life at the time when falls for the same sex was a big no no was interesting to read but at the same time also sad that it could have such a dangerous and shameful effect if the truth were to be exposed. I throughly enjoyed this book.
Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres and K.R. Mullins has done a fantastic job of taking the fictional life of our main character, Lottie, and weaving it into the historic Charles Becker trial. I love the way Lottie isn’t your typical female lead and yet she is in a very official position. When she starts getting blackmailed and they threaten to reveal parts of her life she’d rather leave in the dark, we see a fierce and stubborn woman who won’t back down. I really enjoyed how Mullins integrated the Becker trial into her story. I definitely researched it as I was reading (because that’s just how I am) but I think she did a great job of seamlessly weaving the details from the trial into Lottie’s story. I definitely recommend this title. It was a quick and interesting read.
This is an enjoyable and engaging historical crime mystery, set in New York City, in 1912 and the storyline is based on Police Lieutenant Charles Becker’s Conspiracy trial. The city is divided between Greenwich Village where rejected tradition is regularly flouted, and Manhattan where it is strictly upheld. The heroine of the story is Lottie Flannigan, and she manages to balance both sides of her life, embracing her bohemian lifestyle whilst working in the legal profession, clerking for conservative Justice Goff in Midtown. Lottie finds herself working on a high profile case which turns into a trial of a lifetime, involving a local Police Officer Charles Becker.
As Lottie’s professional and personal lives collide, she finds herself caught up in a blackmail scheme. With the blackmailer threatening to disclose her most intimate choices, if she doesn’t do as they say. Lottie believes it’s related to the Becker trial, but she has to find out who would benefit most from the verdict, and could her missing lover be a part of the scheme. Lottie is a great main character, likeable and relatable, and who I felt engaged with. The authors wonderful descriptive narrative brings the setting vividly to life, and the historical details made me feel as though I had been transported back to 1912. The storyline flowed well and the exciting plot had me hooked from start to finish. I definitely recommend reading this novel.
