This Egg Won’t Hatch by Lois Wickstrom is a cute children’s story that has a lesson on overcoming fear. This could almost be a ‘companion’ book to “Just One More Egg”- as they have the same style illustrations, and the same Warbler ‘family’, nest, and feel- as the other. The classic watercolour illustrations which accompany the story help to bring the story to life and engage the reader. Again, what happens when a cuckoo lays her egg in a warbler nest? What happens when the all the chicks hatch, except for one? What happens to the last egg? You really should read the story if you want to find out… Happy reading!
Heart’s Escape is Book #3, and the fourth and final instalment in the Fallen Hearts series by Meredith Hart. As with the other books in the series this is a captivating romantic fantasy- with an enemies to lovers theme, action, adventure, magic, danger, drama, desperation, chemistry, spice, challenges/obstacles, emotion, mystery, secrets, tension, intrigue, superb world-building, interesting characters, layers, banter, violence, a quest, and finding love unexpectedly. This is Phaedron and Alindra’s story, which sees two ‘enemies’ joining forces out of desperation, and perhaps a little a touch of fate. We met Phaedron previously, as he is Rowan’s brother (Heart’s Rescue – Book #1). Desperate times call for desperate measures, and both Phaedron and Alindra have their own reasons for wanting to join forces. But trusting each other is a whole different story. Right? What unfolds makes for a captivating story of finding love in the throes of an adventure. As I have come to expect from Ms. Hart, this is a richly detailed story with wonderful scene-setting which helped to bring her world, characters, and story, to life. I was pulled into the story from the very beginning, easily connecting to and investing in the characters and the outcome of the story. This was a bit of a bitter-sweet read for me, knowing it was the final in the series- but also needing to know how it all played out in the end. I wonder what Ms. Hart has in store for us next? Mission Target is the newest addition (Book #7) to the Jake Wolfe series by Mark Nolan. It is another incredibly clever, intensely gripping, and suspenseful read. Mr. Nolan has come up with yet more heart-pounding situations for Jake and Cody to deal with – weaving a riveting adventure with a complex, multi-layered storyline that’s packed full of action, danger, tension, drama, intrigue, humour, mystery, murder, crime and investigation, covert ops, military/agency/police procedure, assassins, banter, secrets, corruption, greed, violence, a deadly drug, a dangerous international drug network with sinister intent, excitement, twists, high-sea escapades, and much more. We once again we team up with former marine turned lawyer and covert operative Jake Wolfe, and his trusty companion, Cody, the highly intelligent, and loyal ex-war dog- who really is the smartest dog you’ll ever meet. Following along as all the excitement unfolds. When a deadly drug starts leaving bodies in its wake, Jake’s mission becomes cutting the head off the snake, stop the supply, trace the source, and eliminate the threat. This proves to be a bit more complicated when he becomes a target himself. Add a deranged serial killer, corruption, greed, danger, and high stakes- and the story becomes quite the adrenaline-fuelled ride. It is a fast-paced story with lots of twists and surprising developments. This is such an absorbing read, I ended up reading it in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down. This series just gets better and more addictive with each new release. I know I keep saying this, but I really can’t get enough of this series- and I don’t think I’ll ever tire of joining Jake and Cody on one of their exciting ‘adventures’- so I really hope there are plenty more stories still to come. The next book can’t come soon enough for me!

The Cold Kid Case is the first book in the Sparky of Bunker Hill Mystery series by Rosalind Barden. It is an historical cozy mystery set in the 1930’s Las Angeles with a spunky, street smart, precocious tween named Sparky as our MC. I love cozy mysteries, and this promised something a little different, so I was intrigued by what I might find under the cover. Sparky takes us on a crime and investigation adventure when she becomes a murder suspect and has to work to clear her name. The story contains all the historical detailing, language, sights, and societal norms that you would expect from that era- it is richly detailed, and the descriptions are quite ‘visual’, and the characters are many and varied- but all are quirky and ‘colourful’. The author definitely did a great job of bringing everything to life. From murder to mobsters, movie stars, and a little mayhem this turned out to be an intriguing and fun read. What ensues makes for a fun read. This is a children’s chapter book with an easy to read and understand plot that captures the imagination by engaging the reader with a fun story that contains some ‘learning’ opportunities along the way. There are some fun, black and white, illustrations sprinkled throughout that help inspire the imagination. This is aimed at children who are just starting to read ‘chapter books’ on their own, or with help- and contains a few ‘harder’ words to challenge them as they read (Reading Tier 2). Joy’s Christmas Escape is the first book in The Marshal’s Mail Order Bride series by new-to-me author P. Creeden. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Creeden, so I really didn’t know what to expect from one of her books, but the blurb intrigued me enough to want to find out, and I love a good historical romance. So I let my one-click finger loose and snapped up a copy to set off on the adventure. I am excited to find that this is part of (what appears to be) an 8-part series, something to look forward to. The author also has numerous other books to her name, so I can feel a book-binge coming on. The Christmas Carousel is the second book in The Brass Ring Series by K.L. Small. It is a wonderful children’s chapter book that weaves a wonderful fantasy adventure full of action, carousel horses/animals, a brass ring, magic, the Christmas spirit/the true meaning of Christmas, imagination, drama, and learning. As with the first book, this second instalment is a captivating fantasy where we follow along with Rusty and Grandpa as the story comes alive before our eyes. Rise of the Y is the first book in The Y Chronicles by Angela D. Shelton. It is a YA dystopian story with adventure, secrets, agendas, family dynamics, rebels, who-to-trust, a hidden diary that reveals long-held secrets, danger, rebels/rebellion, a quest for truth, duty/responsibility vs freedom, dramatic developments, and religious elements/overtones. I really love a great dystopian story, and I love YA adventures- so when a book combines both- it’s a YES from me. I really wanted to love this book as it held the promise of great things, but unfortunately, I just couldn’t find my groove with this story- which frustrated me no end. I also didn’t connect with our FMC and character, which made it impossible to invest in her and the outcome of the story. She just didn’t win me over and I found her annoying. This could be a ‘me’ problem though- as I have been on a bit of an action-packed thriller binge of late- so I have decided to revisit this book again in a few weeks to see if I still feel the same way….. so stay tuned. I am curious to see where we go from here, so hopefully Book #2 will win me over. Happy Reading…

Dumpster Dying is the first book in the Hazardous Hoarding Mystery series by Michelle Bennington. It is a fun, madcap, cozy mystery woven around some very interesting, quirky characters. With a whodunnit feel, crime and investigation, humour, drama, emotion, paranormal elements, and more- made this book a very entertaining read. This is the first book that I have read by this author, so I really wasn’t sure of what to expect from her work- but after reading this I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more of her books going forward. Birdie, Walter, and Oda Dean really brought this story to life- and it certainly wouldn’t have been the same without their quirky personalities. Interwoven through the story are also some deeper subject matter- things such as mental health issues, hoarding, grief, loneliness, acceptance, loss of a loved one, and the afterlife. There was a lot more to Birdie than first meets the eye, and that comes down to Ms. Bennington’s ability to cleverly craft complex characters. I felt for Birdie, laughed at the antics- while connecting and investing in her and the outcome of the story. Even though the threads of the story were tied up and the ‘mystery’ solved- I was left feeling like everything ended too abruptly- leaving me a little ‘deflated’. But, I did enjoy the mystery, overall, and am intrigued by what Book #2 might hold. Happy reading…

Threads of Time is the second book in the Toronto Time Agents series by C.N. Jackson (aka-Christy Nicholas). It is another intriguing adventure, with a suspenseful plot, mystery, history, sci-fi elements, time travel, drama, agendas, the paranormal, danger, investigation, banter, witty dialogue, and lots more. We are back with Wilda Firestone whom we met previously in Book #1- She’s a retired Temporal Agent who now runs an outfitters shop for time travellers. Things take a dangerous and complicated turn when a bomb goes off, destroying her shop, as well as the time machine next door. Now Wilda is thrust into a dangerous investigation with a ‘rookie’ as her partner. The stakes are high, and the adventure is wild. I highly recommend reading the first book, Time Tourist Outfitters Ltd (Book #1), before starting on this one, as the first book lays solid foundations and contains important character details/introductions, as well as other important information which will enhance your reading experience of this book. As usual, Ms. Jackson’s wonderful worldbuilding skills are evident- crafting a story that is quite rich and vividly descriptive. Wicked Games is Book #7 (but the 10th instalment) in the Hidden Valley Elite series by Isla Vaughn. OMG- I can’t get enough of this series!! This is the first instalment in Shane and Winter’s story, which concludes in the next book, Wicked Ends. It is a New Adult, enemies-to-lovers “bully” romance with plenty of angsty drama, love, hate, emotion, trauma, tension, intrigue, suspense, mystery, secrets, family dynamics, sparks, chemistry, and s-s-s-sizzle. As we previously- The ‘Elites’ are the top of the food chain, college football stars. They are brothers Cole and Damon and their cousins, twin brothers Phoenix and Shane. Each of the elites get their own book/s – and this time it’s Shane (and Winter’s) turn. And OMG do they have a story to tell! This is not a light and fluffy read- nor is the series. There is a lot of darker content, which I won’t go into because I don’t want to spoil anything for you. But do check the content warnings before diving in, because there are some disturbing/unsettling details contained in the book/series. And, as expected- Ms. Vaughn loved toying with my emotions! The Inquisitor is the fourth book in the WaterFyre Rising series by Nadia Han. It is a fantastic romantic suspense with a second chances/friends to lovers element, intrigue, danger, mystery, tension, chemistry, sizzle, drama, agendas, damsel in distress element, alpha-male type billionaire doctor, family, friendship, emotion, abduction, human trafficking, violence, and deadly developments. Ms. Han certainly knows how to weave an engrossing story and she always manages to pull me in from the get-go and keep me glued to the pages, devouring the words to discover how it all plays out in the end. I have loved this series from the very first book, and each instalment since just seems to get better. Each new release always becomes my favourite till the next one knocks it off its throne. As was the case here. I loved the backstory behind how ‘WaterFyre’ came about, and that aspect of the series has always intrigued me. The group of WaterFyre men each get their own book, so each could be read as a standalone. But in saying that, I highly recommend reading the entire series, from the beginning, because they are each fantastic stories in their own right and each book lets us get to know one of the WaterFyre men, and their love, in much more depth. This is Forrest and Kiera’s story. Forrest is the Inquisitor of WaterFyre (yes, I have mentioned that name several times now and if you don’t know what that is, you really should read the book to find out what it is all about) and a billionaire doctor and a protective alpha type male. He comes to the rescue when Kiera is abducted and put to auction by human traffickers. Things are about to get complicated, in more ways than one. What happens makes for some intense, engrossing, and dramatic reading. Looking forward to the next release – ‘The Strategist’ (Book #5). Happy Reading!

Master Sardinia is the eighth book in the Masters of the Consulate series by Sylvia Black. I know I have said this with every new instalment in this series, but it’s true- this series just gets better with each new instalment- and I don’t need any more enticement than sexy vampires: vampire mafia to be exact- even better. Again, as with the rest of the series, this is a fantastic dark vampire romance/paranormal romance- and has all the ingredients of a romantic suspense too– with an underworld society/vampire mafia, enemies to lovers, a fated mates element, age gap, danger, drama, high stakes, chemistry, sizzle, agendas, evil plans, politics, magic, emotion, action, loyalty, bonds, mysteriousness, intrigue, tension, emotion, and is told from a duel POV- which gives this story added depth and interest. I highly recommend reading the other books in the series before beginning this one. Because even though you could read this as a standalone, as each book in the series focuses on its own separate character/s, and there are also some interconnected details, as well as recurring characters that pop up/span the series- so I really recommend reading from the beginning, so you know what’s happened right from the start. The best part about this series is that there are 12 books planned…. 8 down, 4 still to comewhich means more sexy vampires on the way! Oh, and did I mention VAMPIRES!!!!! Necromancy the Musical by Debbie Hibbert is such a fantastic little gem that I discovered by chance on social media. I thought it looked like it could be a fun read, but little did I know when I one-clicked myself a copy thinking it would be a cute, fun read— that it would actually be one of the best books I’ve read this year— and I have read a LOT of books, so that’s saying something. CeCe is a necromancer who helps her police detective father solve murders. But she is also a high school student with a passion for the performing arts. She and her best friend have the opportunity to attend a performing arts ‘camp’ to hone their acting/musical skills, which the two are super excited about. But when a sinister supernatural force starts targeting CeCe things take a complicated and dangerous turn. CeCe is put to the test when she must try to figure out who or what is targeting her, and why—- but also ensure that she doesn’t miss the opportunity that the ‘camp’ offers her. With the help of her best friend, and some new friends they meet at ‘camp,’ CeCe and co are set for one heck of a week. Add in a touch of cute romance, plenty of intrigue, danger, and twisty developments- and we get a wonderful, spellbinding story to enjoy. It is highly original, with lots of clever touches that made for an immersive reading experience. On top of that, its uniqueness sets it apart from others in the same genre. This appears to be the author’s debut novel- because when I finished this I was left with a bit of an addiction for Ms. Hibbert’s writing, so I went searching for her other works to snap up so I could have a book-binge of her stories, but this was the only one that I could find. So, to have written something so engaging, intriguing, original, fun, and polished as a debut novel is certainly quite a feat- and a testament to the authors writing talent, and promises of great things still to come. This is a wonderful paranormal mystery with necromancy, crime and investigation, suspense, voodoo, dramatic developments, danger, friendship, family, musical elements, twists and turns, the supernatural, intrigue, humour, banter, quirky characters, and so much more – all set against the sights and sounds of New Orleans. Like I said earlier, I have developed a taste, well let’s be honest here- it’s an addiction to Ms. Hibbert’s work, so I can’t wait to get my hands on more of her books. I was excited to see on her website- yes, I may have stalked, hem, I mean investigated her, and found her website- well, anyway, I found that she has ‘Necromancy the Call Back’ and ‘The Galveston Mystery’ listed there as WIPs, so I am really excited to read those asap. Shadow Bringer is the first book in the Raven Academy series by the supremely talented Brandi Elledge. I absolutely LOVE Ms. Elledge’s books- she is one of my favourite authors- so it was a given that I would be reading this Book. But to say I was blown away is an understatement- I couldn’t have loved it more than I do! I finished it and dove right into Book #2 which had only just released- I devoured them both and was left with a taste for more- in the best possible way. I hope Book #3 is coming soon because eeeep, I need to know what happens next. This is a wonderful fantasy that captured me right from the beginning- giving me an instant addiction where I couldn’t have put it down, even if I’d wanted to- it is completely riveting!!! The story is woven around shadowbringers, shifter, witches, vampires, an academy for young immortals, magic, sci-fi, action, adventure, secrets, banter, humour, chemistry, romance, danger, drama, good vs evil, family, friendship, emotion, and has a bit of a dystopian setting and feel. Riley has been raised in a sheltered ‘puritan’ community that keeps its inhabitants safe from the impure that have wreaked havoc on the world. Hot Flashes and Hockey Slashes is the first book in the new Hot Flash Hookups series by Marika Ray and Sylvie Stewart. This is a fun contemporary romantic comedy with a fake dating element, OWYM, holiday hookup, forced proximity, only one bed, meddling family, reverse age gap, menopausal mischief, chemistry, funny quips, banter, one-liners, antics, family dynamics, drama, emotion, angst, and wonderful characters. When Olivia has to attend the wedding of her ex-husband, her meddling children organise a ’fake date’ for her. Roman isn’t what she expected at all. A pro hockey player with more than just his looks and hockey skills going for him. What happens makes for a really fun and memorable read. The story was so entertaining, and I enjoyed every second between these covers. These two authors have come up with a magic recipe here and I can’t wait to continue this madcap romp of a series. Christmas Escape by Belinda Williams is such a fun holiday romance about a holiday fling that might lead to finding love unexpectedly. Lizzie is down on her luck, losing her job and her apartment just before Christmas. So, what does she do. Goes on holiday, of course. Sun and fun- Australian style. Things don’t go exactly according to plan- but that’s half the fun. Add in Jaz a single father of two, our Grinchy FMC – Lizzie, humour, banter, antics, some festive spirit, and finding love unexpectedly – and this Christmas romance has just the right amount of tension, drama, and spice to keep me engaged the whole way through. Unclutter: A Survivor’s Story is the first book in the Inner Voice series by Winnie D. Pagora is raw and emotional story about overcoming trauma while also learning to ‘live’ again. This story is heavy, dark, gritty, and thought-provoking in parts. It contains sensitive subject matter that could be triggering for some readers- so read the TWs before diving in (topics such as sexual abuse/child abuse, rape, self-harm/cutting, mental health issues, suicidal thoughts, PTSD, betrayal, shaming, gaslighting, domestic abuse, bullying- and more). This story is shocking, heart-wrenching, and touching, all wrapped up in a dramatic package. I really felt for Tina and what she went through. But I got to watch her, develop, grow, and overcome over the course of the story, which gave the story some extra depth. The heavy subject matter was well-balanced with some touching and tender moments, some light-hearted scenes, true friendship, resilience, strength of character, and a lot of heart. The story is quite ‘wordy’ in parts, and contains a lot of character, with quite a lot going on- which made for a lot to process. At times the ‘wordiness and ‘heavy’ aspects slowed the flow of the story down considerably- but this didn’t detract much from my overall opinion of the book. This appears to be Ms. Pagora’s debut novel and is also the first book in a series- so I am intrigued to see what else Ms. Pagora can/will do. Happy Reading…

Porter and Midge: Paws for Safety: A Kid’s Guide to Safe Dog Interactions by Jennie Chen & Giselle Nevada is not only a cute story, but is a great educational book that teaches children how to have safe interactions with dogs. It also has charming, bright, colourful, and interesting illustrations which help to bring the whole thing to life. This is a fun, quick, and easy read that has also has a great rhyming rhythm, a bit of a lyrical feel, that will help children/readers to connect with the words/story/message. Happy Reading…

#lovealwayswins Reckless Love is the fourth book in the wonderful ‘The Bennetts of Langston Falls’ Series by K.G Fletcher. I feel like every time I review one of Ms. Fletcher’s books that I am repeating myself, because there are only so many ways to say ‘she keeps outdoing herself with each new book she releases’, ‘I LOVE this story’ ‘I think it might be one of her best yet’, ‘she had me swooning while all the emotion strummed at my heart strings’, ‘this is another example of why Ms. Fletcher is on my automatic one-click, no questions asked author list’. But it’s all true, and I am having trouble finding the words to do her book/stories the justice that they deserve. The Bennet’s of Langston Falls is a really fantastic series, each member of the family get their own book, and each one (so far) has captured my heart along the way. This is Becky Bennett’s story – and it’s a fabulous slow-burn, small town, enemies to lovers, romance with all the ingredients needed to make it a captivating read. This book could be read as standalone, but I highly recommend reading the previous books before starting on this one, as they are all superb stories in their own right, and they will all make you feel like you want to stay in Langston Falls and have a Christmas tree farm, listen to music, and hang out with good friends. Another wonderful, contemporary romance with plenty of emotion, chemistry, sizzle, a little drama, forgiveness, redemption, family, taking a chance on love, and much more. Can’t wait for more! Lottery of Secrets by Nadija Mujagic is the first book in an intriguing new series. I am always up for a good thriller, so I happily jumped right in. Imagine winning BIG in the lottery, but then find that instead of enjoying ‘the good life’, your world crumbles into a dangerous, paranoid mess. Well, that’s exactly what happen to Lynn- and we follow along in a race against time to unravel everything before it’s too late. This is a psychological suspense, with drama, mystery, twisty details, paranoia, secrets, danger, and more. I did find the story intriguing, and as the first book in a series, I can see the potential yet to come. For most part it was an engrossing read. But I didn’t find it as psychologically twisty as I had anticipated. I really wanted to be on the edge of my seat, clamouring to find out what happens next- but that wasn’t the case here. It was definitely intriguing, and had some gripping, twisted moments- but I felt the story was much slower, a little more frustrating, and more predictable than I had expected. There were some unexpected developments which kept me turning the pages to find out how it all played out- and I am interested to see what happens in the rest of the series as there are still some questions that need answering. First, can we take a moment to fully appreciate this beautiful cover- it’s just stunning! Themes of Kismet by A. Akinosho is a sweet, ‘meet cute’ romance that tells a tale of fated love, second (third, and fourth) chances, secrets, drama, cultural differences, challenges, danger, emotion, and more. Our MC’s are in the hands of fate from an early age. Meeting several times over the years before finally getting the ‘message’. But, even then, the author doesn’t make it too easy for them, making them work for their chance at happiness. The story is sweet, but also interwoven with secrets, drama, angst, and danger which makes the book all the more engrossing. I enjoyed this first read of Ms. Akinosho’s work and look forward to seeing what she does next. Happy Reading…

Fractured Hearts is the seventh sublime book in the Grimm Wolves MC series by D.M Earl. Gah! Ms. Earl has once again hit this one out of the park. There is no picking favourites with her books, because every time I think I have found my favourite, she ups the ante with the next book and blows me away. Each one slightly eclipses the previous, and I’m not sure how she keeps doing that- but she does- and that makes me one very happy little reader! She doesn’t know it, but she’s one of my ‘ride or die’ authors- and I’d happily read the telephone book if she wrote it- or her shopping list for that matter. As expected from Ms. Earl, she has lovingly crafted two heart-achingly beautiful, damaged souls who have had so much to deal with- but fate finally relents and reveals their missing ‘part’. This is an emotional, angsty, heartachingly good, dark romantic suspense story about the healing power of love, finding your missing part, and finding where you belong. Add in a cute but mischievous furry companion, danger, twists, dramatic developments, tension, sizzling chemistry, violence, action, intrigue, forced proximity, and a touch of the paranormal- and this story really takes off. The intensity level was dialled to high- which kept me on the edge of my seat, flipping the pages to keep up with all the developments. Be warned though, there are some taboo, uncomfortable, and possible triggering subject-matters contained in the story- so please take that into consideration and read the warnings before diving in. I also suggest having tissues and wine close at hand, you’re going to need them. There are some interesting, interconnected details that Ms. Earl has cleverly woven through her story, and the series. We get several perspectives throughout the book, which adds an extra element of interest to the storyline- as well as painting a bigger picture. We ‘catch up’ with characters we’ve come to know and love from the previous books/series, as well, which makes reading these books so great. If you love intriguing MC romance with an original spin- emotion, drama, brotherhood, camaraderie, family bonds, intensity, banter, and gripping developments- then this is definitely the story/series/author for you. The Mating Haze is the second captivating book in the Long Claw Pride series by Brooke May. As with the first book, this follows members of the Long Claw Clan, a mountain lion shifter community- and makes for fantastic reading. Let’s face it, Ms. May had me at shifters – but making them mountain lions certainly added an extra element of interest for me. Especially after reading the first book. I love the way that each book builds on what we learned in the previous one/s- even though the main focus is on different main characters- there is a bigger picture being built in the background, that bridges the series. For this reason, I highly recommend reading the first book before starting on this one. Trust me, you won’t regret it. Laramie and Trigger give us a front row seat to a superb paranormal romance, with fated mates, drama, emotion, angst, family, community, destiny, secrets, discovery, challenges, responsibility, banter, humour, antics, and more. It was so easy invest in them and the outcome of their story. But as expected, Ms. May threw in a few challenges and dramatic developments along the way to keep things interesting. Bring on Book #3! My Big Red Monster (Giants and Monsters) by Lois Wickstrom is a bright and colourful illustrated children’s story book with learning/teaching opportunities, overcoming fear, monsters, intrigue, fun, and a little drama- to us a few lessons along the way. When monsters hide under the bed, there are ways of dealing with them- and this story shows how- in a fun and imaginative way. The illustrations are also fun and interesting- adding an extra element of interest as they bring the story to life. A great addition to the series. Happy reading!

Saint Con by Seelie Kay is an engrossing mystery- a bit of a romantic suspense intermingled with tension, danger, chemistry, intrigue, angst, emotion, humour, banter, and dramatic developments. It is a short story, which makes for a very quick and easy read. I’m not sure what I was really expecting from this, as Ms. Kay loves to mix things up and always manages to surprise me- in a good way. After the first couple of chapters I thought I was in for a bit of a romcom- but then things took an unexpected turn where Ms. Kay twisted things up a bit and added a mystery/suspense angle too. She turned what I thought would be a simple, albeit enjoyable romcom, into quite a clever, complex, multi-faceted storyline- packing a lot into a small package. In true Seelie Kay fashion, it is immersive and impactful! I really enjoyed this clever suspense. But it was the characters who stole the show for me. I really loved the characters, I enjoyed their chemistry, personalities, funny banter, quips, and antics. It made them more realistic and quite endearing. Well worth the read! Happy Reading…

Merry Christmas, Montana is the third (and final?) book in The Millers of Marietta series by Elsa Winckler. It is a Christmas romance with a small-town setting, emotion, family, chemistry, spice, a special Christmas wish, heartwarming/feelgood scenes, and finding love unexpectedly. Even though this is the third book in the series, it can be read as a standalone if you want. Each instalment in the series focuses on one of the Miller siblings who have moved to small town Marietta for the new beginnings that offers. This time we get Mitch Millers story and get a front row seat to fate bringing him his perfect match in the form of single mother, Riley O’Sullivan- although, they might not realise that they are meant to be, at the time. This is another Miller-O’Sullivan match that has proven to be a winning recipe in the previous two books. The characters are wonderful, fully developed individuals with their own unique personalities, quirks and flaws- but who are also quite endearing. The characters continue to develop and grow over the course of the story too, so who they ‘are’ at the beginning of the book evolves as the story unfolds. The story itself maybe a little on the cliché side- but one I was happy to let charm me with all the sweet, heartfelt, and romantic developments. Ms. Winckler kept things from getting too ‘cheesy’ by sprinkling in enough drama and emotion to keep things interesting. Add in a cute little boy with a special Christmas wish- and the story takes a charming, and endearing turn. Happy Reading…

1897by Kimberly Mullins is an intriguing adventure story set in the late 1800’s. The historical detailing, as expected from Ms. Mullins, was on point, her descriptions and attention to detail really setting the scene for her story. I have loved reading the Notebook Mysteries series, so when I saw that this was being released, I was excited to find out what it would contain. Even though this is a standalone story, it does connect to the Notebook Mysteries series in a small way, as our MC here has ties with Emma who is the MC of the Notebook series. I thought that small detail added an extra element of interest to the story, for me. Mark Sutherland is an intrepid reporter travelling to the Yukon to report on the gold rush there. But this novel is beautifully layered, combining multiple threads which Ms. Mullins has deftly woven into a rich and complex production. Mark’s journey is full of harrowing moments, harsh conditions, mystery, tension, dramatic developments, challenges, family, friendship, hope, resilience, determination, courage, danger, agendas, and even a little romance. His introspective inner dialogue adding an extra facet to the storyline too. The ending of this book was sweet, and left room for more adventures in the future.
