This is the first book in the Titans of Chicago but this series is in the same world as the Titans of Manhattan series. This was a great second chance romance. Harper and Gabriel thought they would be together forever until the unthinkable happened and she was ripped from him, then she destroyed him. The dynamic between these two is explosive when they meet up again. I love the world that has been built in these series.

Anise Storm wrote an amazing contemporary romance, Deceptively Yours, that will have you questioning what will happen next. This is the first book in the Titans of Chicago series and was absolutely intriguing. The author wrote this story going between the two main characters, Harper and Gabriel’s point of view. I love it when authors do this because you get to see how both main characters are feeling and have a deeper understanding of why their actions are as they are. This story starts out introducing us to Harper and Gabriel, two teenagers in love who have their whole lives together planned out, until one tragic night Harper finds out from Gabriel’s parents that her parents have died in a fatal car accident. Harper’s Uncle George comes to take her from Chicago, Illinois to live with him and his family in Portland, Oregon. After the move, Harper starts pulling away slowly from communicating with Gabriel, until one day out of the blue she breaks everything off. You will be shocked as to the horrors that caused Harper to make this decision. Ten years later the two meet up again, but will they be able to work past their hurt feelings and reconcile so they can at least be civil with one another, or will Gabriel refuse to speak to Harper, who is desperate to talk with Gabriel? The storyline keeps moving from one surprise to the next, flowing so smoothly that you won’t want to put the book down. I cannot wait for the next book in this series to come out, there are so many characters that we meet in this story that I would love to read more about, including Harper and Gabriel’s Titan friends.

Harper and Gabriel had both been brought up in a family of Titans, their fathers were very powerful men in Chicago. They had fallen in love young and thought they would always be together until one fateful day tore them completely apart. Harper lost her parents when she was almost 17 to a car accident and was sent to live with her Uncle George and cousin Jayson in Portland Oregon. She didn’t know what pain she was about to endure at their hands but it cost her everything. Once she learned of certain things she decided to try and convince the only person she ever loved that he was in danger due to her. Once she arrived back in Chicago and found Gabriel she was not welcomed like she might have hoped. It had been almost a decade since he had seen her and she had torn him apart. Will things go the way she planned and will Gabriel even listen to or believe anything she had to say?

Wow! Anise Storm left this reader on her toes, I could not put the book down. It is a dark romance and the plot twists are around every corner. When two childhood sweethearts are swept apart by death and distance, they find themselves together again under unlikely circumstances. Storm creates a tragic backstory for both main characters, and the journey they go through to find one another again is unbelievable. The reason I rated it 3.5 stars is due to the lack of character development. I feel that I could not completely connect to them, their situation, and the storyline in this regard.

A good start to a new series. I really enjoyed the other Titans series by this author and was excited to start this one!

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. The author sets up a great plot with characters you want to root for. There is a lot of tragedy and some darker themes, but they are important pieces to the plot and really create depth to the character arcs. The author has an engaging writing style and I found myself engrossed in the book and turning the pages to the end, having to know what would unfold next. The attraction between Gabriel and Harper is palpable and there was steam coming through the pages.

While I really enjoyed this overall, I did feel there was a lot of repetition throughout the book. It is told from alternating points of view and frequently the reader would receive the same information several times as the characters rehashed events. There were moments I felt myself urging the story to just move forward because I had anticipation for what was going to happen next, but had to deal with the rehashing first.

Gabriel and Harper have a wild ride and there are wounds that run deep…can their relationship survive this wounds and the danger lurking around every corner?

Harper and Gabriel were young, and in love, until tragedy rips them apart. Years later, when Harper returns to finds herself in Gabriel’s presence once again, their reunion is anything but happy. However, these two fight the line between love and hate time and time again. And, when everything is on the line, the side that wins will seal their fate.

I love these characters. It is intense and dramatic, while also being steamy and emotional. This is not the first book that I have read from this author…and every book has been one that I haven’t been able to put down. As this is the first in the new series, I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series has in store.

Deceptively Yours (Titans of Chicago Book 1)

She has done it once again. I started this book just before going to bed. Laid in bed reading and before I knew it I was almost half done with the book.

Harper breaks my heart. She has such a happy young life. Parents are happy, is with the boy of her dreams, school is going well and overall she’s happy until she isn’t after some world altering news.

Gabriel is the next generation of the Chicago Titans, while we don’t know the first generation at this point I have a feeling we will get to know them through their kids.

I have read several books by Ms. Storm over the past years and she has yet to disappoint me. She is an instant click as soon as I see her name and will continue to click without thought.

I have read other series from this author, and I can’t believe they can keep creating such magnificent stories! This is the first book in the Titans of Chicago series, and what a start it is. I loved the emotional rollercoaster twisting and turning throughout, the highs are heartwarming, and the lows are heart-wrenching. I enjoyed the flow of the story as it grabbed me from the beginning and never let go. The characters are well-developed, and I felt invested in them immediately. Harper and Gabriel start out as teenagers that are in love but are quickly dealt some devastating blows. Will they be able to recover at all? Does time really heal all wounds? I raced through this book because I needed answers, and I cannot wait for the next in this series. If you enjoy romance, suspense, and plenty of emotion, you’ll absolutely love this book!

This is a second chance at love contemporary romance with a dark element to it. I found myself engaged with the characters right from the start and the storyline kept me hooked. Harper and Gabriel were teenage sweethearts until tragedy parted them. When they meet again as adults Gabriel is still angry and hurt by Harpers actions. However, Harper has secrets, which explain why she did what she did thinking that by letting him go she could set him free. When they find that they are both in danger they can’t deny that all their old feelings are still there along with their connection. This was an emotional rollercoaster of a read and I found it to be a real page turner.

Omg! I was super excited to be reading this author again(its always a pleasure😉😉lol). Anise Storm is a fantastic story teller, with amazing characters and crazy good world building. This is the only book of the series so far (sad face sad face) . This book really had me in a choke hold like omg. At times it really felt like the author had my heart In her hands and was squeezing it, really hit me in the feels good and bad. Although Harper and Gabriel had some really spicy scenes together that wasn’t the only reason I loved this book. So well written it had me flipping the pages Faster than I could keep up, with danger, spice, love and heart wrenching trauma that will definitely have you on an emotional roller-coaster. It can be triggering for some readers though so be cautious.
Ps I do highly recommend reading .I cannot wait for more book the this author

Deceptively Yours is the first book in the Titans of Chicago Series and is a Dark Contemporary Romance with a bit of suspense added in. There are some parts that may be a trigger for some but I promise it’ll be worth pushing through them. I’m not only a huge fan of this author but her Titans of Manhattan wass amazing and I couldn’t wait to dive into this one. I devoured this book in one afternoon because I simply couldn’t put it down I had to know what was going to happen next. Harper and Gabriel have grown up together and have been in love with each other sense a young age. These two are inseparable until tragedy strikes and she’s forced away. Over the years they have both been through things some terrible and some not. Can these two get a second chance at love? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I’m looking forward to reading more from this Author.

A great 5 star read. All I can say is wow, what a great start to this series. I was pulled right in and did not want to put it down. Harper and Gabriel take us on a heck of a ride with their story. They grew up together and grew to love each other until betrayal made them enemies. When these two come back together, sparks fly among other things. My emotions were all over the place. I will warn that there are some scenes that could cause triggers for some. Overall I really enjoyed this read. These two about killed me emotionally, but I was happy with how things turned out. I was certainly on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was coming next. I can’t wait to read more from this series and author. 1-click and get started today.

Another win in the world of the Titans, this time with book 1! I was so excited to read this. Not my first and a million percent not my last read of Ms. Storms. The prose is fantastic, the passion and anger are as red hot as ever, the decisions the characters make in their lives and how they effect the others are as angsty and grief filled and loving and electric as ever.

Gabriel and Harper are children of the Titans. As teenagers they’ve been insulated for a lot of their lives, but they have also had a lifetime to feel the magnetism and special relationship possible amongst one another. Their first kiss was at age 7 and it began to cement just how much they belonged to one another forever. Gabriel was a hot shot athlete who was waiting to make the call on where he wanted to attend college, but all that mattered to him was being where Harper was. They had their entire lives mapped out, full of hope and excitement for the future and the steps they’d be taking together as they entered adulthood…until tragedy happened and Harper was whisked away across the country with barely enough time for whispered promises between them.

Just like that, they were separated and feeling lost except for the tethers that bind them together. They were so sure nothing would ever come between them for long, but Harper is forced to endure another trauma and horror, and her shame and guilt lead to a lie in order to protect Gabriel and it begins a decade of anguish, bitterness, hatred and shame. She begins to try to reach out to Gabriel, but the only burning emotions he feels is hatred and anger for her and he denies her requests. They end up being brought together unexpectedly, and Harper takes advantage of her opportunity to get his attention, even if it only brings more pain by causing him to lash out at someone he thought he once knew. Whatever it takes to get him to take notice and listen to her…she’s willing to take the heat. Her guilt and shame for lying to Gabriel has hung over her for her entire adult life.

Gabriel has never lost his passionate heat towards Harper, but it morphed from love to hate with Harper’s decision ten years ago. He wants to burn her with his disgust, but it isn’t the only thing still burning after all these years…they are both adults now, with many life experiences and choices behind them and have become different than the young adults that were so sure love could conquer all. He wants her to feel his disgust for her, to make her feel the pain of his heartbreak as starkly as he does. Will he ever give her a chance to say what she’s been trying to tell him all this time? Will their passion and magnetism burn as brightly as it always has, or will the flames of betrayal outburn them?

Another absolute win, there are some traumatic experiences in this book as a warning.

Deceptively Yours by Anise Storm is book one in the Titans of Chicago series. The story is full of some heavy content and should be taken into consideration if one is sensitive to certain topics. I enjoyed this second chance romance between Harper and Gabriel but I will admit I found myself cringing multiple times at Gabe and his behavior. While the pair have history, they haven’t seen one another in years and when they do Gabriel is quick to make it known he’s not happy to see her. But all the more happy to jump into bed. I also was definitely not a fan of how he treated her seemingly like garbage after all of the things that happen to Harper in this book. Just, woah. That said, it was clear when they were teenagers that they were “it” for one another and though Harper has come back in an effort to try and save Gabriel from harm, it is clear there is still pent up anger. Will this pair be able to see beyond their past to help one another? I will definitely be reading others from this author.

Harper and Gabe had their whole life planned out. From high school graduation to college to marriage and kids but when tragedy struck Harper’s family her whole world was shattered and destroyed. Little did Harper realize that the death of her parents would also be the life change that would destroy her in many more ways than just losing her parents. Over a decade passes with no contact between Harper and Gabe but with the death of his parents six months earlier and the possibility that Gabe could be in trouble, Harper could not chance Gabe dying also.
This is another phenomenal book written by this author. I love everything I have read she has written.

Everything was perfect until it was all gone. Anise Storm I truly love your work and your incredible talent. This is the first book in a new series, Titans of Chicago. Dual perspectives of Harper Grimes and Gabriel Blake.
Harper and Gabriel are the children of Titans, and he will become one as he gets older. They have been in love their entire lives and have had every detail of their future together planned out. Until…a car “accident” wipes it all away. With her parents gone her only living relative is her mom’s brother, George. The night she is given the devastating news she loses everything and everyone she ever loved when he takes her to Portland. Instantly she is living in hell and the moments of feeling loved and cherished are gone. Nearly ten years passed, and she never stopped loving the boy she left behind, her soulmate. Gabriel never considered life without her at his side, they were soulmates and had everything planned. She was gone and had broken his heart, but even after nearly a decade he still couldn’t hate her, he loved her and always would. Another accident following her questioning where her inheritance was, and she found herself terrified for Gabriel so much so she did the only thing she could. She flew to Chicago to force him to listen to her warnings, he was in danger. Quickly finding her wildest dreams coming true, she was back in his arms, the threat remained and the truth of everything would shatter her beliefs.
What was the true cause of the accident? Can she ever see the truth of who deserved her blame and let go of her fears? Gabriel never could love another, is she truly his again, for good this time? The world was honest and cruel, no shiny knight to rush in at the last moment and save the day. Though there was a man who loved her and against all odds refused to let her disappear from his life again. The journey of the characters overcoming trauma, learning, and accepting the truth, they never stopped fighting for the love they held for the other. I cannot wait for book two and curious to know which Titan will be next, perhaps Daxon and Charlie?

Another amazing Titans story from this author! New city, new titans, new badazz FMC.

Harper and Gabriel grew up knowing that they were each other’s. There were only a handful of times they were apart. They shared their first kiss at seven. Harper fought her way back into the group when Gabriel didn’t want the girl hanging with the boys anymore at 10. Gabriel and Harper shared many first along the way. It was just the way it was until the unthinkable happened.

Harper was 16, almost 17, when her parents died in a car accident. Harper was ripped out of her life in Chicago and forced to move with her uncle to Portland, Oregon. He was the only family she had left. Her uncle was not a nice man. His son, Jayson, was worse. They made Harper’s life a living hell. Not wanting to drag down Gabriel, and too ashamed of what was happening to her to tell him what was going on, Harper broke Gabriel’s heart shortly after moving to Portland.

Gabriel was never the same after Harper dumped him. He claimed that he hated her but deep down that was just covering his hurt and love for her. When she calls him out of the blue nearly a decade after she destroyed him, he lashes out and blows off her call. When she shows up at a charity auction and buys a date with him, he is cruel and a complete and an utter jerk towards her. His cruel words drive Harper away but she never gives up trying to protect him.

Harper believes that Gabriel’s life is in danger because she started to investigate what happened to her inheritance. Knowing that Gabriel hated her, Harper does her best to get him to listen. He refuses. Harper tries to protect him all on her own and winds up getting kidnapped. Gabriel is tempted to ignore Harper’s pleas for help when they come in but he listens to the better angels, and helps Harper. He realizes that all of Harper’s actions were not trying to get back in his life but because there was real danger.

When this danger is neutralized, Gabriel convinces Harper that they are safe. When Harper heads back to Portland to wrap up her business there and pack to relocate back to Chicago, Harper finds out that she is still in danger. Will Gabriel find out? Will he be able to save her this time?

Stellar opening to the series. Can’t go wrong with a Titans book.

OMG!! I couldn’t put this book down and I hated when I had to because of work. Just like her other books, she knows what her readers want to read. The love story of Harper Grimes and Gabriel Blake was written for those who believe in soul mates. I am one of those people even though I haven’t found mine yet. This isn’t just about love, hurt, and passion but you do see a lot of that in this story. It helps create a realistic picture of what’s ahead. I promise you that you will not be able to put this book down until you have read it completely. Anise Storm is an author I wish that I could be someday. You will find yourself mad at some of the characters including Harper and Gabe at some point and that is okay. Continue to read and you will find that the anger helps you understand these characters so much better.

Harper and Gabriel were childhood best friends and high school sweethearts that were pulled apart when Harper’s parents are suddenly killed in a car accident their junior year of high school. When Harpers parents die, she is forced to move from Chicago where her father is a Titan, to Portland to live with her uncle until she graduates high school, her world changes in many ways, and none of them are positive for Harper. Due to being so far away, and the horrible changes that are occurring in her daily life, including physical and sexual abuse, Harper ends her relationship with Gabe, and tells him that she’s with someone else, in an effort to push him away and protect him. For the next decade, Harper isolates herself from her friends back in Chicago, until she realizes that her uncle is behind the recent deaths of Gabe’s parents and may be poised to try and harm or kill Gabe, whom she still loves. Harper goes back to Chicago to warn Gabe that her attempts to figure out what happened to the money that should have been left for her when her parents passed, may have accidentally opened a Pandora’s Box that cost him his parents and may yet cost him his life. Gabe refuses to talk to Harper at first, until the incoming winter storm causes him to bring her into his home for a night, where passions are ignited in more ways than one. When Harper finally tells Gabe what she suspects, he doesn’t believe her at first. This book is a great opening to what I am sure will be an awesome story. The characters are flawed and realistic, the world building is great.

Harper and Gabriel were in love and had plans to marry after graduating, but one fateful night throw there plans out of the water and Harper will forever regret her decisions.

After Harpers parents had died, she got rushed away to live with her uncle, but this was not a happy existence and when something hideous happened to her she had to break Gabriel’s heart and this has always played heavy on her heart, but with a cruel twist of fate she needs to protect him, but will he put aside the heartache and listen to her.

Gabriel is suddenly thrust into the old emotions that tear through when he sees Harper for the first time in nine years, all the hurt and anger comes flooding back but with that is also the lust and passion he felt all those years ago she was his soul mate, and can he put his feelings aside to help when she needs him. Although a lot has changed over the years can he forgive and forget.

This is a spin off series from The Titans in Manhattan and is just as addictive, the main alpha in Gabriel is wonderful to read and does show his vulnerable side within the story. Harper’s character is a great compliment to Gabriel’s and provides with just enough heartache and with what she has been through to feel sorry for the situation she landed in.

I must warn you there are trigger subjects within the story and you may find uncomfortable to read but this is part of Harper’s story to who she has become, and the writing is sympathetic to the story. I love the way Anise writes and this story has you emersed in a world of dark goings on and a thriller full of twists and turns. This has me engrossed till the end.

I can’t wait for the next books in this series.

I love this author and I love the previous Manhattan Titans series. To find out there’s a new series and it’s going to be about the Chicago Titans how can I say no!?! I look forward to the development and reading books in this series as they come out, until then. Deceptively Yours was a nice start to a new Titans series. A small warning that this book contains some dark themes so don’t take it lightly.
Harper and Gabriel were torn apart. Growing up together as sweethearts they expected to be together forever. Planned for it even, until one fateful that Harper’s parents were in an accident. It would change and upend their lives forever. Harper was taken from Chicago by her uncle. And suffered through abuse in the household let alone outside. But she wanted to protect Gabriel, never realizing at the time it would last forever. Because years later she realized he might be in trouble and that sadly she would be the cause and she needed to protect him.
Harper came barreling back into Gabriel’s life and he hated and loved it. He hated her and she destroyed him, but did he really? It was a struggle because she was the one who got away. Didn’t matter how young they were, he knew then she would be it for him. But now how could he even look at her. Through hateful passion he hoped to have hurt her as she hurt him. But what happens when she’s in danger? Does he answer the call?
Will these two get a true second chance to fix what was broken?
Does Harper succeed in her quest to protect Gabriel?
Those questions and so many will come as you navigate this Chicago Titan adventure.
I personally am trying to figure out which Chicago Titan will be next. Happy reading!

This is the first book in the Titans of Chicago series. It is a dark second chance romance which deals with several subjects that could be triggering such as abusenand grief. I couldn’t help but be completely captivated with this story and I couldn’t put it down. My heart broke for our main characters Gabriel and Harper and I will be honest at times I did wonder if all the trauma and angst between them was going to be worth trying to reach their happy ever after.
Harper and Gabriel were young sweethearts. Soul mates who planned on spending the rest of their lives together. Nothing could tear them apart or so they thought.
When Harper gets the news of her parents death and then is taken away by her uncle they still hoped their love would survive. However circumstances around Harper means that in her mind to protect him from the truth she ends their relationship.

Fast forward and Harper has moved on with her life but she has never forgotten her first love. And when she gets news of Gabriel’s parents passing she wants to reach out but will she be welcome?

When Gabriel sees Harper again all the old anger, resentment and hurt crashes to the surface again. And even though he can’t deny the chemistry between them how can he ever trust her again?
With the added danger that is lurking in the background will this be the thing to bring them back together or will it push them further apart at the risk to their safety?
I really enjoyed this book and even though at times I felt like shaking Gabriel for the way he treated Harper I kept having to remind myself that he doesn’t know the truth of it what she went through. This story is gripping and I couldn’t put it down until I found out if they made it and got their happy ever after or not

Deceptively Yours (Titans of Chicago Series) by Anise Storm – Review by Stephanie Runyon

Deceptively Yours (Titans of Chicago, #1)Deceptively Yours by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Anise Storm’s first book in her Titans of Chicago is Deceptively Yours. Harper Grimes and Gabriel Blake were soul mates planning to marry after graduating. Both of them had grown up together and fallen in love. One evening, Harper and Gabriel were eating dinner at Gabriel’s home when his parents came home. Mr. Blake asked Harper to meet him in his office for a minute. Harper’s parents were killed in a car accident. Devastated, Harper is shocked to learn her uncle was picking her up to live with him in Portland. Despite the Blake family offering to let Harper stay with them in Chicago, he refuses and takes Harper away.

Jayson, Harper’s cousin, tormented her two months later. Jayson rapes Harper and takes pictures of his acts. He sends them to her to prevent her from telling anyone. She felt as though she had unwillingly cheated on Gabriel. In a single phone call followed by pictures, Harper breaks Gabriel’s heart. She also stopped contact with everyone she knew in Chicago.

Nine and a half years later, Harper discovers Gabriel’s parents died in a mysterious plane crash. She knew she had an inheritance, and Mr. Blake had been trying to help her despite her uncle denying she had anything. Her friend, Jackson, had helped her look into Mr. Blake’s work, and they found something off. Just before the plane crashed, her uncle was making incremental payments to someone in Chicago. Now the same payments were being made. Harper fears that Gabriel is in danger and tries to warn him on the phone. He hangs up on her. Determined, Harper has to warn Gabriel of the danger. When White is flying to Chicago, a blizzard strikes the city. She finds Gabriel at a bachelor’s auction for a charity. When it is time to bid for the date, Harper uses over half her savings to pay for the date. However, Gabriel has other plans. Unprepared, Gabriel is angry but won’t turn Harper away since all the hotels are full. He takes her back to his penthouse.

Anise Storm’s Deceptively Yours covers several deep topics in a passionate romance story. The sixteen years Harper and Gabriel had before her parents’ deaths held onto hope. Even a decade after Harper foolishly ended the relationship, Gabriel and Harper never moved on to another real relationship. While they were apart, some of their dreams had come true, while others had fallen through due to unfortunate events that happened in real life. Despite the chemistry between them, the pain of betrayal is brought to light through Gabriel’s eyes. The alternating views are well-transitioned, and they keep the momentum of the story moving forward without being a repetitive rehashing of each detail. The personalities are well-developed, and the vivid depiction of their physical attributes adds to the appeal of this book. Readers who enjoy well-developed romantic suspense novels will find Deceptively Yours a great book for their personal library.

Deceptively Yours (Titans of Chicago Series) by Anise Storm – Review by Jessica Stone

So, this is the first book in a new series by Anise Storm about a group of Billionaire men whom call themselves titans.

Right off the bat for any sensitive readers please heed the trigger warnings, this book is spicy and has so subjects that some might be sensitive too.

So this book is about Harper and Gabriel, to friends whom have known each other all of their lives who naturally ended up deeply in love with one another until tragedy strikes and they are forced apart in the blink of an eye. To save Gabriel from heartache and even more pain Harper ends things with him and promptly disappears from Gabes life. Until 9 years later when a dangerous situation forces Harper to seek out Gabriel and thrusts them back together(rather reluctantly in gabs part)
Will he find it in his heart to forgive and move past the hurt he experience, will Harper finally open up to gabe and be honest about why she broke his heart all those years ago.

I lovedddd these characters so much, I honestly can’t decide if I like Harper or Gabe more, I love the headstrong character that Harper is, but the vulnerability that she still has. And I adore the sweet spot that Gabe still finds himself having for Harper even after all the hurt he’s felt. Their relationship is just so day one, they were made for each other. Alsoooo, the dark sexy side of Gaberial that is alpha whole, demanding, takes what he wants just does it for me. And Harper being this shy sweet girl who is actually a little naughty is what I believe all women should be able to feel and experience.

All and all I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the characters were fun and interesting without being overloaded with unnecessary information, the world building was spot on, and the story was fun and engaging with a splash of good ole smut. I can’t wait to read what the author has in store for the rest of this series.
