Next Door Knight (Man’s Best Friend Book 2) by Nicole Flockton – Review by Katie Matthews

Next Door Knight (Man's Best Friend #2)Next Door Knight by Nicole Flockton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Next Door Knight was an enjoyable read and the first that I have read by this author. It didn’t take me long to get into the story and my interest was kept throughout. It took me a little time to connect with the characters but by the end I had found the connection that I was looking for. I definitely could feel the emotions coming from the characters especially Caleb, the author did a really good job in making sure that I had empathy as a reader for the things that Caleb had experienced in his life and the way he was feeling now. I really admired Kerry, she was a strong person who was also caring and compassionate and her family is very important to her. I love reading stories about therapy dogs I think they are so amazing and I am in awe of the things they can do and the help that they can give people, I adore them!
Overall a good read that I would definitely recommend and I am looking forward to reading more from this author again in the future.

Hate To Love You by Lily Ryan
Baker’s Bunch Book 1
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

This book was a rough ride. The story is wonderful, the characters are fantastic and the issues Sam and Tyler’s family face are very real. The drama with Sam and her brother’s best friend Cole is over the top. I say that because everything can always be worked out by communication, but Sam seemed to have the most trouble doing that. Throughout the whole book it seemed Sam and Cole just couldn’t stop breaking each other’s hearts over and over. At one point Cole has had enough and Sam realizes she could lose him forever if she doesn’t get her issues together. Their relationship is beautiful though, and I really pulled for them the whole way.

This book had me on edge the whole way through and I could not put it down. There are some great steamy scenes and an awesome story line. I would highly recommend this to any romance lover.

HEELS OF FORTUNE: PJ Santini Series: Book Two by Lynne Russell

5 +++++++ Stars

I DID NOT WANT THIS BOOK TO END!! Seriously, I loved the first book and if it’s possible I loved this one even more. I think being inside of P.J.’s mind is one of the most fascinating and completely hilarious places to be. Her thought process cracked me up in most cases and I want to be her friend and I also want to order one Tango Daly please…***sigh***

This book was awesome, had everything I love in a book all tied up in one complete package, twists and turns from every direction and if there is one negative I can mention its that there isn’t another one waiting for me to jump into yet! 🙁 Stalking has already begun and I will be first in line when she continues this story.

I love that she throws in just enough of a flashback here and there and doesn’t spend too much time on it, its enough to give me what I crave and then transports me back to the present and I didn’t forget where I was..Not sure if that made sense but its awesome.

The family aspect of this story is also a favorite of mine in any book and OMG Nonna…loved loved loved her! I also hope Vicky is even more involved in coming books, she added another layer to the story that was simply spot on!

I can’t recommend reading this enough…I suppose you could read this as a stand alone although I can’t imagine not having read the first before sinking into this one. This author has become an absolute must read for me and this series will remain a favorite and I already can’t wait to reread. 🙂

The Werewolf Queen (Wheel of Crowns#1)
By Brandi Elledge
Rated 5 stars

I have read some previous reviews and I don’t get it. For me this book ROCKED! I loved it all. I talked about it to all my friends. They were shocked that everything i told them happened in one book.

The characters (Even Sadie who is only 18 and i felt acted her age), the story and the humor were all a good fit. Let’s tackle the characters. CG is old (Immortal) and Sadie is barely out of her teenage years. CG has had many years to acclimate and be prepared. Sadie, who thought she was a DUD (meaning a no powers witch) , just came Into her powers and had never met any other creatures before other than witches.Sadie has heart along with her immaturity. She is trying to balance everything that has been heaped upon her in a short amount of time. She has crazy friends and family. That’s to be expected in any family. I loved all the different types of characters we met. From the sexy Vampire to the funny fairy to the lovely new large friend she acquires. Even the Evil characters held true to their form.

The story is different which is good. No cookie cutter stuff here. It’s also full of action for only a 250 page book. There is barely time for these characters to breathe. I literally devoured this book and I don’t really care for “witch” stories. Usually they are too “sneaky” for me. Witches that is. But I do love werewolf stories so I took a chance on this one. I was unprepared to how fast moving and smooth this story was. Were there glitches? Yes. But the more you read the better they are understood. (Again my reason not to like witches). The humor was cute and I felt added to the story. She is a teenager! Aren’t they all snarky? My only issue was the mating ceremony but this isn’t a cookie cutter story so it can be different.

I can really see the author setting up future books. Looks like there might be seven in our future. There is so much intertwining between characters and stories i would recommend starting with this one and going from there. I look forward to reading the next but can’t wait for the Stephens.

Until Fools Find Gold (Providence Gold Book One) by Mary B. Moore – Review by Jenni Bishop

Until Fools Find GoldUntil Fools Find Gold by Mary B. Moore
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Until Fools Find Gold: A Providence Gold Series and Until Series Crossover by Mary B. Moore. OMG. Brilliant just brilliant. Even though the underlying story of abuse and horrible acts with is heartbreaking but this is the funniest thing I have read in a long time. Mary B. Moore I salute you, you have written something so unique and original that you have created a masterpiece. I read this story in one go as there was no way I wanted to put it down as I was so engrossed and immersed in this wonderfully woven world. The story is so magical it had me on the edge of my seat through to the end and I was howling with laughter out loud so much that I was crying and my husband checked on me several times to make sure I was ok. Mary B has very cleverly written something that completely throws you as you never know what to expect.

Luna had been dealt a sh*t hand in a father that treats her less than human but she has a family who loves her, if only she can get back to them. When her best friend receives a call the family do everything in their power to get there before the evil can take her away again.

This is a brilliant start to the series that is so much more. This without a doubt is the best book I have read this year and Mary B is now up on a pedestal of great authors. I absolutely will be making sure I can get everything she has written or will write.

Shortcuts (Singularities) by Amy Bearce was is a fun and engaging YA fantasy story. The characters are interesting, and believable and have powers and the story is fast paced. The journey is one of friendships and family, and the usual that teenagers go through along with powers and consequences that could destroy it all and still trying to work out who they are and how they fit in the world. This YA fantasy is well written and captivates the audience no matter their age.

Blinded by Betrayal with Spin Drift: Book One (Silent Secrets) by Lisette Kristensen is a brilliant and fast paced shot story. But don’t let that the story is short fool you, there is so much going on and is action packed. It’s like that saying, don’t judge a book by it’s cover, because this is quite an explosive read that definitely packs a punch.

On the run to and old friend for help she is thrown into a life that she never in a million years could have imagined. One of sexual discovery, secret government agencies and assassins.

HAWKE (MEN OF SYN BOOK 1) – REVIEW BY MELISSA AGENA

Hawke (Men of Syn, #1)Hawke by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a refreshing book! I haven’t read a story like this in a long time and I very much welcomed it. Hawke is the first book in the Men of Syn series by Anise Storm. Syn is a new BDSM club that has opened up and Nathaniel “Hawke” Hawkins is the owner. Charlotte is the party planner that is going to be throwing the Masquerade party for the Grand Opening. The moment she meets Hawke she is very drawn to him in the sense that there is something very familiar about him. Until she realizes what why that is, which is a complete shock to her and mostly to him! This book is mostly about both of them trying to stay away from each other but there is a pull that they can’t seem to fight. Hawke has a past that stops him at every turn. There is so much depth in this book but so much sexiness too. I truly loved the authors writing style and I truly can’t wait for the next book to come out!

MAYHEM (A TWISTED HEARTS LOVE STORY – BOOK 2) BY AUTUMN SAND – REVIEW BY MELISSA AGENA

Mayhem (A Twisted Hearts Love Story, #2)Mayhem by Autumn Sand
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Even better the second time around! Mayhem is the second book in the Twisted Hearts Love Story Series by Autumn Sand. Although we are not following Tony and Anaya in this book, they do have cameos. In this book we follow Tick and Cyma. Tick is Tony’s right hand man, former Marine and of course a serious ladies man. Cyma is a mom of a very young daughter who is just trying to get by through any means that she can. Tick’s background is the reason he is a player, but the moment he meets Cyma, that all ends. However, for Cyma she feels the pull toward him but her background keeps telling her to stay away. Tick had other plans. This book is so well written that it’s almost like you aren’t reading but you are a part of the story. I love the characters and the twists and turns that are incorporated within. This truly is a great book and a great series. I can’t wait for the next book!

He’s searching for absolution. She wants her happily ever after.

Solomon Clarke goes by Saint, though he’s anything but. After lusting for him from afar, the masquerade party affords me the anonymity to pursue that attraction without worrying about the fall-out of hooking-up with the bouncer from the Hawkeye Club. From the second he lays his eyes and hands on me, I’m helpless to resist him. Even burying myself in a dangerous investigation can’t erase the memory of our combustible connection and one night together. The only problem… he has no idea who I am.

Caroline Brooks thinks I don’t see her watching me, the way her eyes rake over me with appreciation. But I’ve noticed, and the party is the perfect opportunity to unleash the desire I’ve kept reined in for so damn long. It also sets off a series of events no one sees coming. Events that leave those I love hurting because of my failures. While the guilt eats away at my soul, Caroline continues to weigh on my heart. That woman may be the death of me, but oh, what a way to go.

Life isn’t always clean, and sometimes, it takes a saint to do the dirty work.

***Tainted Saint is the first novella in The Hawke Family Series, but it is a continuation of the same story in the main series. While it is a complete story, it is NOT meant to be read as a standalone. The story of the Hawke siblings and the secondary characters featured in Tainted Saint starts in Savage Collision and continues in book two, Tortured Skye, book three, Stone Sober, and book four, Building Storm. These stories all build on one another and are intertwined. They need to be read in order to fully enjoy and understand the plots and characters. ***

It’s not easy being the worst vampire ever.

Tandi may have been killed by ghouls, but now she’s a brand new vampire. And she’s determined to be the best.

But determination can’t take her very far when she won’t even kill a deer for its blood. Not to mention she’s not as subservient to her master—the Prince of Vampires—as she should be. Despite him being a dead hot guy, and powerful enough to have broken free of the Queen’s influence.

Little does she know that the Queen of Vampires wants her Prince back, and Tandi’s about to get caught in the middle. Just as well the Prince is unusually protective of her, even if she is trying to hide her developing feelings for him. Because when they’re invited to a wedding, and the Queen will plan Tandi’s death there. And the crown-wearing vamp has several ways to do it.

But Tandi is full of surprises herself.

When a disreputable cat turns up promising to help, together with the gorgeous Prince they hatch a plan. It’s dangerous. Maybe even deadly. But if everything goes just right, they might just have a chance.

Of course, when does anything go just right? Maybe being killed by ghouls wasn’t such a bad thing after all.

While this is Book 2 of “Wheel of Crowns” series, i believe THE QUEEN OF WITCHES can be read as a stand alone and still be enjoyed as much as if it’s read in order.

This is a quick and fantastic read that I ripped through between dinner and bedtime. Any review i write will not do this story justice. It has best friends and big brothers, cute boys and new powers and a dude named “Sammy”.

Action packed, this story is full of character and charm (and demons of course) and then pages practically turn themselves.

I absolutely recommend this story!!

The Werewolf Queen by Brandi Elledge is the first book in the Wheel of Crowns series. Sadie is turning 18 and it isn’t the typical 18th birthday. There are werewolves, vampires, and witches. Not your average birthday at least for a mere mortal. This is a fun start to a series and really enjoyable to read. Sadie is smart, funny, and tough.
I enjoyed the story and the characters. There was a nice flow to the story and I was not sure where the story would ultimately go. I really look forward to reading more from this series in the near future.

Mayhem (A Twisted Hearts Love Story, #2)Mayhem by Autumn Sand
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mayhem by Autumn Sand is the second book in the Twisted Hearts Love Story series and I think it’s safe to say I enjoyed it more than the first book. And I really really enjoyed the first one.

Tick is the right hand man to mob boss Tony who we meet in Bedlam, Book 1, and is emotionally stunted due to a tragic event that happened in his younger years. But that all changes when he has an unexplainable reaction to Cyma, who he meets in a sudden, violent, and unexpected way and she vanishes just as quickly as he meets her. A few days later he sees her again, in again the most unexpected place, and vows this time to get to know her better. He is persuasive, and sexy as can be!! And he doesn’t take no for an answer! Cyma has her reasons for saying no, but has a hard time meaning it
This story has humor, tragedy, danger, action, twists, vulgar language and steamy sex scenes in spades! This book is not for people who are adverse to violence, or cancer, and is definitely not for young eyes!! 5 stars from me and I cannot wait to read book 3!

Hate to Love You (Baker’s Bunch Book 1) by Lily Ryan – Review by Jana Teppih

Hate to Love You (Baker's Bunch Book 1)Hate to Love You by Lily Ryan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hate to Love You is the first book in Lily Ryan’s Baker’s Bunch Book. It is a young adult story of the pain of growing up … it is a hot mess overloaded with emotions and knee jerk reactions and it is not surprising, it is for young adults so if you are of my age and you found yourself reading it, tone down your criticism and look at it through the eyes of the young ones. Growing up is not a party though at times it seems so to us who are on the fringes and we look at the popular crowd!
Hate to Love You is a forbidden love story of Samantha ‘Sam’ Stone and Cole Andrews. Cole is Sam’s brother’s best friend so you can imagine why it is a forbidden love story! Things happen and both give in to their feelings for one night … what happens then? The writer gives us the story from both Sam’s and Cole’s point of view so we have the front row seat to their angst, I mean their feelings … it is a rollercoaster ride and most of us can relate to it for sure! As it is the first book in the series, I wonder who the next one is …

SHORTCUTS (Singularities) by Amy Bearce – Review by Kerry Baker

ShortcutsShortcuts by Amy Bearce
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Shortcuts (Singularities) by Amy Bearce is a brilliant YA novel that is clever and unique and such an interesting read. This is not only perfect for the age range it is clearly aimed at but also has that something about it that captures the attention of all age ranges.
The characters were all great to read about. The dynamics of their group worked really well and was believable of kids their age. That is something I think a lot of authors struggle to get right.
The story was varied and nicely paced – quick enough to hold the attention of a YA but also detailed enough provide an interesting story.
I have to say that I loved the cover of this book. It is eye catching and instantly draws your attention to it. It is what caught by interest in the first place.
I really enjoyed everything about this book and wouldn’t hesitate to read more by this author.

Things We Lost (Loving Locksley Book 1) By Shae Banks. I’m a sucker for a second chance type stories and this one didn’t disappoint but it was a bit predictable but I truly enjoyed Nathalie and Jason’s story. Each of them having their own crosses to bare and stories to tell. This is my first read by this author but I’ll definitely be looking for more, the author does a wonderful job of writing a sweet story with characters I really connected with. It’s well written and paced nicely. It’s on the shorter side but that doesn’t hold it back any. I’m glad to give this story a four star review and recommend it. I’m excited to see where the author takes readers next.

After Hurricane Nina, Rand’s Resolution (Hot Hunks-Steamy Romance Collection) By Tamara Ferguson. This author always grabs my attention and this time was no different. From start to finish I was rooted to my seat. I love an author that can take a not especially long story and give readers every they could want and things we don’t even know we want. There’s plenty of twists I didn’t see coming and I loved it. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. Characters are complex and relatable. It’s told in dual POV which is kind of a favorite of mine because we get a much fuller picture of all things happening. If you’re looking for a great story that keeps you glued to your chair this is it! Five stars all the way and I highly recommend it.

Hawke (Men of Syn Book 1) Anise Storm – Review by Sarah Oakes

Hawke (Men of Syn, #1)Hawke by Anise Storm
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A great read about the past. Hawke is trying to get a his new nightclub set up in the local area. To make sure it has the best and biggest opening night, he hires a party planner company to help him out. But it comes with a face from his past with Charlotte Maxwell. Can he overcome his past or will it overshadow his future?
A great read. Well developed plot. Well developed characters like Hawke trying to build his business despite his feelings or Charlotte standing up for herself but vulnerable underneath.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like in Hawke’s office with the desk and chair all organised and a sense of control. Or the weather with its snow and slush and ice cold wild and untamable for a wonderful sense of contrast.
The switch of perspectives worked well to display both sides of the story and was easy to follow with names in the chapter titles. The flashbacks and or memories were written well and didn’t disrupt with the narrative of the present. The only issue I would raise is that there were lots of long sentences making it hard to read and causing repetition in a lot of places. If this was reduced, it would make for an excellent read. Overall, a great read and I would give it four stars.

Hate to Love You (Baker's Bunch Book 1)Hate to Love You by Lily Ryan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A great read about change. Sam’s brother has overdosed on drugs, but all she can think about is kissing his best friend, Cole Andrews. That night changes everything as she gets her hearts desire. But her brother always gets in the middle of things and Cole doesn’t want to risk Tyler finding out. Can their forbidden love blossom or is it doomed from the start?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns. Well developed characters like Cole trying to be a good friend but also follow his heart or Sam try to do what makes her happy despite what others think.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like with the storm with the thunder and lightning in beauty and colour grabbing the readers attention from the start and a wonderful use of foreshadowing. Or the vivid colours used with the greens and blues of the eyes wonderfully written. Or the coffee shop with its homely feel and comfy booths for a sense of peace from the storm.
The switch of perspectives worked well to display both sides of the story and was easy to follow with names as chapter titles. The only issue I would raise is that the conflict of Tyler not finding out felt as if it was a bigger problem than it seemed. Perhaps if this was explained, this would br more relatable. Also the reminiscences into the past felt unnecessary and often repeated things. Overall, a great read and I would give it four stars

Taming the Troublemaker (The Hills of Texas Book 3) by Kadie Scott – Review by Karyn Taylor

Taming the Troublemaker (Hills of Texas, #3)Taming the Troublemaker by Kadie Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Taming The Troublemaker is the 3rd book in the Hills Of Texas series by Kadie Scott. This series centres around the Hill family and each sibling has their own book. Although the characters are recurring, each book can be read as a stand-alone. I had not read the first 2 books in this series before reading this one and didn’t feel that I was missing any important information. I would, however, now like to go back and see how the first 2 couples got together.
I adored the 2 main characters in this story. Beth is the local school teacher and feels plain and unattractive in comparison to her 2 stunning sisters. She is quite insecure and feels like guys don’t want to know her anymore once they get sight of her sisters.
Autry Hill is a playboy and charmer who is forever getting into mischief until her is given a challenge by his father. No woman for 6 months and he can have the family ranch house. Autry expected this to be easy as he was starting to tire of his reputation. Little did he know that Beth Cooper was going to blow his world.
Beth and Autry’s story was a very enjoyable read. You really got to see a side of Autry that you didn’t expect, especially given his reputation around town. Beth also has a few tricks up her sleeve that you wouldn’t expect from her either. Special mention has to be made for the scene stealer Dylan. Dylan is a young boy in Beth’s class who plays a major role in this book and you can’t help but want to mother this broken little boy.
With there being more Hill siblings who haven’t had their own book yet, I’m hoping that this series is going to continue and I look forward to see what this mad family gets up to next.
