Flying the head-of-planet around isn’t a job for the faint of heart. Especially not on Faldine, the planet in the Verdant String whose magnetic fields actively fight against technology, bringing down the ships of the unwary or the incompetent.

Hana thrives on the challenge, though. Thrives on everything about her job. It keeps her from thinking too much about what happened to her during the war, and what she is becoming. A relationship with the head-of-planet himself, though, is more than she wants to deal with.

Iver Sugotti feels like he fell into the role of head-of-planet by default. He knows he’s good at the job, and he’s enjoying the challenge of making tech work on a planet that eats tech for breakfast, but the one thing he really wants–Hana–seems out of his reach.

His pilot has made it clear she’s not interested, and he can only respect the boundaries she’s set. But when someone wants him dead, he and Hana are plunged into an all-out race for their lives. Iver discovers those closest to him have betrayed him, but also, that his pilot is not as disinterested as she seems.

As they try to outwit their enemies, they discover they are far better together than they are apart, and that Hana really is at her best when she’s flying high.

Old and New: The Enchanted Wedding Dress (The MacLellan Sisters Trilogy Book 1) by Lucinda Race – Review by Jenni Bishop

Old and New: The Enchanted Wedding Dress Book 1 (The MacLellan Sisters Trilogy)Old and New: The Enchanted Wedding Dress Book 1 by Lucinda Race
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Old and New: The Enchanted Wedding Dress (The MacLellan Sisters Trilogy Book 1) by Lucinda Race is a wonderful romance story. It is nice to read something that is original and different from the norm. The story flows nicely although at times it seemed a little rushed but you are soon swept away on the journey from Vermont to Scotland and I love Scotland so it was easy to see the author’s vision. I loved the family dynamics and camaraderie, their support and friendship and family bonds to each other.

The story focuses around the MacLellan sisters and a wedding dress with a legend.

I am looking forward to see what Lucinda gives us next.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Mirror Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all”, except this time, the magic is not in the mirror, but is on the onlooker of the mirror, who is to don a specific attire. The seeker is supposed to try on a “wedding dress” and look into the mirror to foresee her prince charming.
The series is a trilogy about three sisters, which makes me think that each book belongs to one sister. The plot of the first book revolves around the oldest sister Jamie. Jamie along with the two sisters Grace and Kenzie visits her grandparent’s homestead in Scotland, after their grandmother passes away. Their father inherits the farm.
Their grandmother leaves them a wedding dress, their family heirloom as an inheritance to the sisters along with a letter and a brooch. The sisters first laugh it off, but out of curiosity, the oldest, Jamie tries the wedding dress just to know if the mirror will show her current date as her prince charming.
But the fate, the wedding dress and the mirror have a surprise planned for her when she is caught unaware between two twins, one who fits her requirements perfectly and the other who stirs her heart. Whom will Jamie choose?
A very sweet romance story, perfect to be made as a rom-com movie. Loved it. And a story which also explores the relationship between the three sisters.

Love Song: A friends-to-lovers rock & roll romantic suspense by KG Fletcher. This is far from my first book by this amazing author but I’ll be honest it may just me my favorite so far. I’m a sucker for a friends to lovers story especially when you throw in a bit of drama and danger. Sam and Casey grabbed my attention from the first page and I couldn’t put this book down until I reached the end. Each character is so well written I pictured them easily and it was even easier for the entire story to come alive before my eyes with each page. This is a book I could read again and again. The storyline is well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. And the characters are complex and easy to connect with. I’m giving this story a five star review and I highly recommend.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is my first book by Lisa Wood. It was a love story starring Olivia and Gabe. Olivia has had men trouble and finds running from the situation is her way to deal. Gabe is a top lawyer in NY. She ends up working with his firm as romantic feelings begin, she needs to decide if Gabe is someone she can trust or if she’ll be back where she was before NY- Shattered. All the characters are well developed and well written. I’m interested to see what the next book brings. There were a few more editing mistakes than I felt should have been but it was a good story.

Well, what a read to be introduced to this amazing author! This book had me hooked and captivated from the very beginning. This author has created a read that is a mentally visual, it’s easy to picture the entire read in your head as you dive into this world, and get lost within the pages. This fantasy read has magic, secrets, romance, mystery and danger! It has characters that are easy to connect to and I absolutely loved following their journey and seeing a story with a fantasy character such as dwarfs brought together with humans. This is an excellent read that I can’t wait to see what else this author brings! I highly recommend this read!

Old and New: The Enchanted Wedding Dress Book 1 (The MacLellan Sisters Trilogy)Old and New: The Enchanted Wedding Dress Book 1 by Lucinda Race
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this romantic novel with a magical twist, it’s book one in a trilogy by Lucinda Race which centres around the MacLellan sisters. Jamie, Kenzie and Grace are sisters who are all independent, feisty and single. This novel concentrates on Jamie who at the beginning of the story vows that she will never get married. However all that changes when an enchanted wedding dress from her great-grandmother arrives. The wedding dress is a family heirloom which is also supposedly enchanted. Family legend says that any descendant of their great-grandmother who tries the dress on will see her future revealed in the mirror. Unable to resist her curiosity Jamie try’s the beautiful dress on, and to her astonishment she sees a shadow of a man in the mirror. Jamie does not believe that Steve, the lawyer she has been dating is that man and when his twin brother Caleb arrives she instantly knows that it’s Caleb who is the man she’s fated to be with. As well as having to overcome the fact that she is already dating his brother, Jamie also has to decide what she wants her future to be, as Caleb lives a vagabond life.
As well as the romance between Jamie and Caleb the storyline also focuses on the relationships between the very different but very loyal sisters. I loved all three of the sisters characters and enjoyed getting to know Jamie in this novel and look forward to finding out more about Kenzie and Grace over the next two books in this series. I found this to be a wonderfully written story with lovely characters that I really cared for and I felt immersed in their world whilst reading this story. It’s an easy read as the storyline flows along nicely and the plot has enough going on in it that it kept me happily turning the pages. Lucinda Race is a new author to me and I am pleased to have discovered her and I look forward to reading future books by her. ‘Old and New’, is a lovely whimsical family drama and romance which is a perfect book to escape into and one which I definitely recommend.

The Lightning Horse (Empire at Twilight Book 1 ) By N.L. Holmes
4 Stars!!!!

This is the first book by this author I have read and I was not let down. I really like books that are based on historical events and peoples. I like how the author was able to bring the characters to life. There was drama mixed in with bits of intrigue and draws the reader in. I was unable to put this book down.

I really like how there are a lot of twist and turns. I also like how this being the first book really sets up the series to come. I found that the author has a unique style and is able to wind the story around the characters and the sort of dangled ending to this first book really leaves the reader wanting more . I will definitely read more from this author as well as this series. I am quite eager to see how it will progress.

I have to say that this is a refreshing change to my normal genre. I really found this book to be intersting and was really hooked from the beginning. This is the first book by this author that I have read and I was not let down. The characters really jump right from the pages and I felt as though I was part of the action.

I found the story line to be quite original. The book was filled with drama and just balanced out right with a few twists in the story. I think that this is a great prequel to an existing series that I look forward to reading. I like how you get to understand just where the character is coming from and what has happened to create who they have become. I am glad that in a way I am actually reading a series in the right order. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The first thing I have to say about Secure Desire is simply awesome! I really really loved this book, I don’t know what I was expecting when I first started but it wasn’t such an enthralling read. Cassie Modine is a strong, independent FBI Special Agent. Her whole life was changed after being made an orphan as a teen then when she experienced a traumatic night 6 years previously that she has no memory of, when she is confronted by her past those who have hurt her decide to ensure that their secrets stay buried. Ian Chase is a billionaire ex-Navy SEAL who now runs his own security firm, by chance he meets Cassie again and his special skills are needed to ensure that she stays safe. This was a really fast paced and action-packed story with lots of twists that I definitely didn’t see coming, I just couldn’t put it down until I knew the truth. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Lucky at Love: Some guys just never give up…
by Cynthia Hamilton

I enjoyed reading this book. I have read other books by this author and I enjoy her writing style, she never disappoints. Allison is a writer that works for a magazine and after meeting Jake at her friend’s wedding she found his multiple marriages intriguing. I think she had a hard time looking at her own marriage and some of the issues played a part in her decision to write this story. Her relationship with her husband seemed more like a business deal than any sort of romantic relationship. I found Jake to be very interesting and his views to be refreshing. I enjoyed the banter between these two, they challenged each other and I think they both found it to be very stimulating. There are some interesting and wonderful characters in this book. The author also did a wonderful job relaying the details in this story so much so I felt like I was there in the story. If you want to find out what happens then this is a must read. I recommend this book.

Alamir (Blood of Kaos Series Book 1) by Nesa Miller – Review by Kerry Carr

AlamirAlamir by Nesa Miller
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book in the Blood of Kaos series and what a first book. It gripped me from the first page. The characters are so well written and the description of the fantasy land really drags you in. The story itself is heartbreaking and dark. What I really love is the lead character Etain is a really strong fiesty female character who will stop at nothing to get the answers she wants.

After her family was murdered by a demon Etain starts the journey to find out who was responsible for their death. She seeks the help of the Lord DarkKnight Dar to find the answers. But by joining his clan she has become a warrior so her mission is put on hold to serve Dar and the clan.

Their relationship is strong and deep but when they both start having feelings that are more than just boss and employee things start to get complicated.

The twist and turns of their relationship and their relationships with others such as Etain’s sister Faux, Dar’s evil brother Medir and the unknown element which is FreeBlood is gripping and captivating.

Composed: An Ash Park Novel (Volume 8)Composed: An Ash Park Novel by Meghan O’Flynn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

These just keep getting better and better. The author does an amazing job bringing these characters and story to life. I can easily picture Petrosky in my head. His gruffness, how he speaks his mind no matter what and how grouchy he comes off but is a marshmallow with those he cares about. Even Jackson I am getting to like. Still missing Morrison but a female partner brings out a new side of Petrosky.

This one shocked and surprised me. This author has a knack of telling a story but never letting the reader “figure it out”. I love that. She easily draws me into the story with the perfect amount of suspense and familiarization. Even the smiles all due to Petrosky’s smart mouth. When he became fixated on a wasp nest and Decantor in here. I couldn’t help but smile….big!

Overall another outstanding story from Meghan O’Flynn. Filled with gritty, sadistic, sassy characters. I can’t wait for more.

Composed: An Ash Park Novel (Volume 8)
Composed is the gripping eighth book in the Ash Park Series by Meghan O’Flynn. This series just seems to get grittier, and more compelling the further we go. Each instalment manages to slightly eclipse the previous book- leading me on an intense, thrilling, mind-boggling ride- and giving me many chills and thrills along the way.
As with all the other books in the series, I was completely invested and entirely absorbed by the story. I gave up valuable sleep time to stay up reading, because I couldn’t put it down for a minute, I just had to know how everything played out before I could ‘let go’. But even after closing the book, the story stayed on my mind as I appreciated how cleverly crafted it was- while also anticipating what Book #9 may hold.
Detective Edward Petrosky has been battling his demons, through the series, but even more so in this book. He is put to the test when he has to hunt down a cold-blooded serial killer, deal with his personal issues, and try to save his only ‘real’ friend. The stakes are high, time is of the essence, and the killer is a twisted psychopath. So, with a lot hanging in the balance, everything hinges on Petrosky- and whether or not he can wrestle his demons into submission.
Compelling Reading!

Thank you, Meghan O’Flynn!

5 ++++++ Stars

I could not wait to get my hands on this book. I have loved this series since book one and love the ongoing story. You really must read these in order to get the whole dynamic of what exactly is happening, and what has happened.

This one would have caught my attention no matter whether I read them all or not, the synopsis had me totally invested in how this author was going to handle this story! I was not disappointed in any way, but that’s no surprise because she always handles everything she writes with nothing short of perfection.

I loved Catriona and Liam. I connected with both of them straight away and their stories both touched me. This was full of everything I have come to expect from this series, the story kept up the flow from the other books and kept the main point going strong even though this one starred 2 different characters. It was full of suspense, danger, super hot steamy romance, love, and the ongoing task of taking down the one person each of these brothers have in common.

I absolutely can not wait for more, I can’t wait to see how this story ends but I don’t want it to ever end LOL The Epilogue makes me very curious!

Do yourself a favor and read all of these..They are amazing!!

House of Illusions by Pippa J. Frost

Frost has really outdone herself with this book! Fantastic writing and realistic characters. House of Illusions is a great story with all kinds of twists and turns.

Valentina is a normal human girl. Well, she thought she was. The one she is in love with has left, but she isn’t sure if he feels the same. Left to deal with her parents death and her brother’s bad habits things aren’t as they seem. The quote I choose for Valentina is: “They keep my mind busy and off what lies beyond these walls.”

Nisse has left the village to travel among the world. Adventures he can’t wait to go on. When the thoughts of a young girl keeps entering his mind he comes home. What he sees angers him as he knows her brother isn’t treating her correctly. He loves her, but knows she’d never feel that way for him. The quote I choose for Nisse is: “If she will have me.”

Highly recommended for the dark fantasy and romance lovers.

Alamir (Blood of Kaos Series #1) by Nesa Miller

My first read by the author and wow. Miller sure knows how to write a fantasy and romance. Alamir is a fantastic book and I can’t wait for the next book.

Etain came to Alamir when her family was killed. She wasn’t looking for love, but she was looking to have revenge against her family’s killer. She found friends among the people she stays with and has also found a family. The quote I choose for Etain is: “I have been your lady since we first met. As for the other… Give me time.”

Darknight, Dar, wasn’t looking for love, but he was looking for company. He’s a twin of sorts, but doesn’t want to live with his brother. Things get difficult when he starts feeling differently. The quote I choose for Dar is: “The destruction you saw was the demolition of a past that has held me back. I do not know what the future holds, but I am ready to face it. I see now I have made a mess of it. At the end of the day, it comes down to what you want.”

Highly recommended for romance lovers with a twist of fantasy and drama. I loved this and will be waiting for book 2.

Whew!! Petrosky is back and with a bang. I love this guy, even as broken and messed up as he is I love him!

This case made me truly cringe and I’m thinking that is exactly what this author wanted. That part of the story is as usual everything you expect from this author, but the part that has me completely invested is Petrosky fighting his demons every minute of every day. It feels so real and I can almost feel his struggles within myself. This to me makes a good author a Phenomenal author. I never want this series to end and was so so happy to see a #9, but I must admit I can’t wait for it to end so I can sit and read every one of them back to back all over again!

If you have not picked up any of these and you even kind of like this genre, you seriously must read this series. It is in a class of its own and this author can write like nobody’s business and I would put her up against any of the big names you associate with this genre!

Loved It!!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lucky at Love by Cynthia Hamilton a five-star read that was just the pick me up I needed. This story has some of the best interactions between Allyson and Jake, they just spark of each other in a way that sparks of the page. When you throw in the fact that Allyson is interviewing Jake who on the surface seems like the eternal optimist and in some ways reminded me of my dad who we always joked had a passion for wedding cake as he was married and divorced four times, it was nice to see that it was a man in that situation. This will suck you in and shake you about, you will be up and down with the drama, but also hooked as there was something special about this story. I can easily say this is my favourite by this author.

This is a short story that comes before The Rise of House Valdis and I adored that story, so this was sublime, it just gave us a little more background and understanding of the characters. I couldn’t believe I read this so quickly but managed to absorb so much, it shows true talent to be able to pack so much in such a short space and not have it feel like just a dressing but let you still feel the characters, still understand them and have a great storyline. If you have read the series still pop back and read this one as it really will add to the story.

The Abduction of Sarah Tarbell: As Her Soul Remembers by Stuart Ledwith – Review by Joanne Ellis

The Abduction of Sarah Tarbell: As Her Soul RemembersThe Abduction of Sarah Tarbell: As Her Soul Remembers by Stuart Ledwith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a a story about Sarah, which follows her abduction by Mohawk Indians, and her 5 day trek to Lachine, Quebec and is a truly well written and detailed historical book.
Sarah was captured with her two of her younger brothers who were then adopted by the Mohawk families, which they then remained with them.
She learnt their language and even fell in love with her captor, before being sold to a wealthy French family.
Sarah then lived with the nuns of Lachine, and then she then became a healer for the Mohawks and other locals and travellers.

The story is told through her eyes and is you see her deepest, darkest emotions. The book is extremely captivating, you see all the obstacles that she had to overcome, the heartbreak, drama, adventures and travels that she went on. It had me gripped from the beginning, and it was a wonderful journey to go on. Would thoroughly recommend.

Finding Ruth: A Daughter’s Quest to Discover Her Mother’s Past by Cynthia Hamilton – Review by Lucy Berson

Finding RuthFinding Ruth by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was an emotional book for me. It was a very heartfelt and emotional story. This could not have been an easy story to write but I appreciate and applaud Ms. Hamilton for allowing us all into her most precious work. Writing about family can be emotional to begin with but when it is about your mother that takes it to another level of personal. Ms. Hamilton takes us on the journey that she and her mother went on with horrible dementia. You can not help but get emotional while reading and you will have tears. Thank you for allowing us into your life!!!
