The Lightning Horse (Empire at Twilight Book 1) by N.L. Holmes – Review by Kerry Baker

The Lightning Horse (Empire at Twilight, #1)The Lightning Horse by N.L. Holmes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Lightning Horse by N.L. Holmes is the first book in the Empire at Twilight series. This is a brilliant historical fiction book that really made the pages come alive. I didn’t really know what to expect when I started this book but knew that I was intrigued by the description. I never expected to be transported to an ancient time and pulled into a story that I honestly couldn’t put down.
The author has done an amazing job with this book – I could so easily picture everything she was describing as if I were right there in the story. It really helped to give a sense as to what this time period would have felt like. I loved the political aspect to it – the plot against the King, the mission to uncover it all – but I also really liked the more pulled back, family aspect. It gave an additional level to the book that for me really made it what it is.
If you love this genre, or even if you just want something new, then I would definitely recommend reading this book!

House of Illusions: A Dark Fantasy Romance by Pippa J Frost is an exciting story that knows how to keep you turning the pages. I found this book to be a really easy book to get in to. The story was well written and engaging I had no trouble at all with sinking in to it.
I enjoyed reading about the characters. They were written in such a way that they complimented each other so well. Even though it is a fantasy story I could imagine them and felt like I was sharing in their journey. They really added to the story and took the book to a new depth. I really enjoyed reading this book and I am exciting to discover more of this authors work.

Accountability (Scope of Practice #3)Accountability by Jessica Aiken-Hall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the third book in this series. I loved it from beginning to end. I highly suggest reading all the books in this series, they are really great. This is a well developed story that has twists and turns that left me turning pages fast. The characters made the story not only easy to read but also made it feel realistic. Valerie’s past is about to come crashing into the present with just one phone call. Life as she knows it, is about to change. As things get more messed up, she doesn’t know who to trust and trusting is getting less and less. She is out to hold Dr. Chad Ross accountable for his actions against her. Will things stay the same or will they see the changes coming? I loved Valerie’s character as I felt bad for her in parts and she has no one to trust as friends became less. She is strong and made the story for me. I highly recommend this book and this author.

Road Tripped (Satan's Devils MC Utah #1)Road Tripped by Manda Mellett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book! This author continues to write with heart and steamy bikers. I have read many books by this author, this one ranks right up with my favorites. This is the first book in the Satin’s Devils Utah series and I cannot wait for more. The author’s attention to details made me feel part of the story, as if I was right there with them. I loved being pulled in right from the first page and kept engaged to the end. This is about a fellow biker that Drummer sends to Utah to check out their chapter. What happens on the road is not what is expected. No spoilers here so I highly recommend reading this book. I loved the characters in this book, steamy hot bikers, what’s not to love. They made the story pop and easy to read. Pick up this book today and find out what happens on this road trip.

Love Song: A friends-to-lovers rock and roll romantic suspense by KG Fletcher – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

Love Song (A friends-to-lovers rock and roll romantic suspense)Love Song by K.G. Fletcher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

KG Fletcher’s Love Song is, as the title suggests, a romantic novel where the main characters are musicians. The development of Sam and Casey’s relationship is interspersed with their experiences performing and touring together. I particularly like Fletcher’s vivid descriptions of the places they go to, and (of course) the food they eat when they’re there!
The tension in this story comes from the ghosts of the past that haunt the couple. Sam is still getting over a difficult break-up and is afraid of making himself vulnerable to more heartbreak. And Casey’s sister and niece are worried about an abusive ex who they’ve worked hard to escape from. The story is at times quite dark, but this is balanced with humour and warm characters.
Casey’s niece, GG, is definitely my favourite character! The bond she has with Casey is so special and their happy moments together bring light and fun to the story.
For me, this book gets four stars. I would recommend it to fans of romance and music, who want a book that will have you on the edge of your seat (and maybe reaching for the tissues.).

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the fourth book in this series which I highly suggest reading all books in this series to help enhance your enjoyment. This is a shorter book which I enjoyed. I was pulled in right from the beginning. It is fast paced and had me turning pages just as fast. I had no problem connecting to the characters as they brought the story to life. This is a story about Asher and Jasmine. Asher leaves the door to the underworld unattended and now he finds himself in a crisis. Jasmine is a necromancer, she has never not been able to tame a ghost until now. Some lost souls escaped the underworld and now Asher and Jasmine are left to bring them back. She is the last person he wants to work with but fate may have something else in mind for them. Will they be able to gather up the lost souls in time? I loved reading the book I’ll See You Again: A Scottish rock star, standalone opposites-attract romance (Reigning Hearts Book 4) by K.G. Fletcher. It is a romantic story that had me believing in love at first sight and soul mates. I loved reading about the characters of Nicky Sinclair and Reid Macpherson. Nicky is a successful businesswoman who plans amazing weddings. She is intelligent, strong, and independent. She can’t deny her attraction to Reid from the first time that they meet. Reid is a world-famous singer who loves music and the band that he plays with. He can’t understand his intense feelings for Nicky. They have an intense chemistry and attraction between them. Will they get a HEA? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had my emotions going up and down the entire time I was reading. I found myself caring a lot about what happens between Nicky and Reid. I wanted them to find happiness. The bantering and interactions between them run from lighthearted to very intense. There are romantic moments that will make the temperature in the room rise. Other additional characters also interact with Nicky and Reid and I loved reading about the part that they play in the book. Don’t miss out on a story that has swoon-worthy moments. I was not able to put it down until the final page. I highly recommend reading it.

By Jessica Aiken-Hall
5 out of 5 stars

The book Accountability (Scope of Practice Book 3) by Jessica Aiken-Hall is a story that had me hooked from the very beginning and didn’t let me go until the final page. The series is one that I have enjoyed reading since the first book. The story is suspenseful and had me turning pages to find out what happens next. Valerie Williamson Phillips is a young woman who has always been affected by her past. Valerie is a woman who when she sets her mind to a course of action, is determined to see it through. Will the bonds between Valerie and those she loves be strong enough to endure all the changes to come? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had my emotions going up and down the entire time I was reading it. Valerie is a very complex character. She is strong, independent, and cares about others. She also has a sense of justice. There are also many other characters that I enjoyed reading about the part that they play in the story. Some of them are ones that have been brought forward in each of the three books in the series. The author does a wonderful job of bringing to life both the storyline and the characters. This is a series that should be read in order as each one builds on the next. Don’t miss out on the next story in an intriguing series that you will not soon forget. I highly recommend it.

Forest Park: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 2 (The Logan McKenna Series) by Valerie Davisson – Review by Angela Shirley

Forest Park: Logan Book 2 (The Logan McKenna Series)Forest Park: Logan Book 2 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Forest Park: Logan Book 2 is the second book in this series which follows the life of Logan Mckenna’s life through her job as a school teacher and a part time sleuth.

The story is full of mystery and drama with Logan waiting for her new boyfriend to arrive at the hotel they have booked for their first interment moment but when she receives the phone call that he has to postpone the trip she carries on and books into the hotel room. Upon the day she meets a food truck owner and someone from there family while talking to them she strikes up a bond of sorts.

Back in her room she hears a boom and finds out that the truck has been blown up and the women who she met has been murdered. With her new found friendship she decides to investigate the murder which uncovers things from the past which the family wants keeped hidden.

This is the second book by this author I have read and the second book in this series, I enjoy the topics which have been chosen to be explored but the multiply POV’s sometimes gets a bit messy within chapters and sometimes within the same paragraphs which can get a little confusing and somehow dilutes the story. Within the story I don’t fully get the character of Logan at times I am rooting for her one minute but other times she gets a little annoying.

The story as I said itself is intriguing and draws you into the thriller and mystery aspect of the book, the story is well written and flows well. I am looking forward to reading the next book and see if Logan can get her lovelife back on track and what next adventure she can delve into.

What do you do when your hopes and dreams literally come crashing down around you? When one split second and something that wasn’t your fault, stops you from participating in your chosen sport just when you’re nearing the top?

Another rider’s misjudgement, and my trial bike competition days were over.

I was angry; I admit it. I love my MC brothers, but they couldn’t understand. I could still ride a bike, allowing me to stay in the club, but I could no longer compete.

Drummer decided to give me something else to think about, and temporarily gave me some distance from Tucson. It was a simple enough task—make my way, of necessity slowly, to Utah, and check that chapter out.

Sure, the Utah club was friendly enough and never hesitated to support other chapters, but they were secretive. Drummer’s instruction was to discover what went on behind closed doors, and for me to return with the assurance they were following the Satan’s Devils rules and regulations.

The time on the road would give me a chance to clear my head, my welcome assured at my destination as they wore the same patch on their backs. Then I’d return home, hopefully with my mood improved.

Neither Drummer nor I had anticipated the mishaps along the route, nor that there was a possibility I might not make it back alive.

Manda’s life’s always seemed a bit weird, starting with a childhood that even today she’s still trying to make sense of, then losing her parents in the late teens. Going from the tragic to the bizarre, who else could be unlucky enough to have had two car accidents, neither her fault, one involving a nun, and another involving a police woman?

There isn’t enough space to list everything that’s happened to Manda, or what she’s learned from it. But by using the rich fabric of her personal life, psychology degree, varied work experiences, and amazing characters she’s met, Manda is able to populate her books with believable in-depth characters and enjoys pitting them against situations which challenge them. Her books are full of suspense, twists and turns and the unexpected.

Manda lives in the beautiful countryside of Essex in the UK, the area’s claim to fame being the Wilkin’s Jam Factory at nearby Tiptree. She can usually find jars of jam which remind her of home wherever she goes. As well as writing books and reading, Manda loves walking her dogs and keeping fit. She lives with her husband of over 30 years, who, along with her son, is her greatest fan and supporter.

Manda is thankful that one of the more unusual, and at the time unpleasant, turns her life took, now enables her to spend her time writing. Confirming, in her view, every cloud has a silver lining.

Love Song: A friends-to-lovers rock and roll romantic suspense by KG Fletcher – Review by Elizabeth Sanchez

Love Song (A friends-to-lovers rock and roll romantic suspense)Love Song by K.G. Fletcher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have read a couple books by KG Fletcher and I really enjoy them. Love Song: A friends-to-lovers rock & roll romantic suspense was the latest I read. The book was not at all what I expected it to be, but I loved it just the same. The story tells of Casey and Sam meeting and falling in love, and the journey along the way. The first couple chapters shows us the stereotypical musician, drinking and partying and traveling around for gigs. I was expecting a quick pace rock star love story. But we soon discover neither are true Rock Stars- they both have a day job and responsibilities and like to just break free every once in a while to wind down. I loved both leads, as they are strong and independent but also vulnerable enough to rely on their friends and family when they need it. I would love to hear more about this couple. I don’t want to give away surprises, but there is a huge event that shocked the heck out of me 3/4 of the way through. Read for yourself…you won’t regret it.

The Lightning Horse (Empire at Twilight, #1)The Lightning Horse by N.L. Holmes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Oh, how I loved this book. I love historic fiction. I loved Troy by David Gemmell, and all Rick Riordan books. Any historic fiction entices me because more than the plot and the characters itself, it gives an insight into a culture which existed and flourished centuries before our times. We understand their way of living, their beliefs, their traditions, customs, rituals and their practices. There are many who attempt to write historic fiction, but despite having the setting, their plot gets lost in the complex shades of the characters. This book does not fail in that aspect. Though the characters are in plenty and each character has multiple layers, the background runs concurrently to paint the Hittite empire, present day-Turkey vividly to the eyes of the reader.
It was a little difficult to remember the characters (there are many), the king, his many wives, his offspring and other descendants of the royal family. The story revolves around a charioteer who seeks to solve the mystery behind the accident of his father. What is visible to the eye is not always the truth. The truth is hidden deep under layers and layers of treachery and deceit. The mystery runs through out the book, it is hard to suspect the culprit till the very end.
Overall, for historic fiction fans like me, it is a great read !

Forest Park is the second book in the Logan McKenna Mystery series by Valerie Davisson. This is a great series and I recommend you read the series in order because the first book is a really excellent read. That being said you could read this book as a standalone and will know what is going on. This story gripped me from the very beginning and I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. The storyline is very detailed and the characters are well defined and relatable. The author deals with sensitive subject matter and does a good job with it. Thisis a great series that I highly recommend. I can’t wait to read the next book inthis series.

Better Than Goodbye (Venture Book 1) by Kinney Scott. This story was just what I needed. Sometimes you need a good romance story that has you falling in love just as much as the characters and that’s exactly what this book gave me. Amanda and Kent from page one completely had me hooked for their journey. The author knows how to write characters you can root for and connect with and that made it easy to get lost in the pages of this story. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. This book is a perfect way to spend a few hours lost with great characters on a nice relaxing weekend. Four big stars and highly recommended. Can’t wait to see where this author takes readers next.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Alligators in the Trees by Cynthia Hamilton is a great story about 3 people who all find themselves thrown together as they try to figure out “what next”. This book is an insightful and interesting read. For me this was all about the characters. They all had such differing experiences and yet still all found themselves at the same place, all a little bit lost.
The way the author has written their stories really draws you in. They are so relatable which I think just makes them even better to read about.
Cynthia Hamilton is such a diverse author as well. Every book I have read by her has been different but great. This book is no exception at all. I would love to know whah happens to these characters after the end of the book and the fact that I am still thinking about them now shows just how much they capture your attention. This is a brilliant book and one I would highly recommend.

This is a much better story than that last one. I still struggled with too much descriptive narration. The story runs pretty slow in the beginning then really picked up during the last forty percent. The characters are good and I particularly enjoyed the part with the characters from Saigon. As well as GI Joes thoughts and struggles. I think they are my favorite characters in the story. I still struggled to connect with Logan. I think she is just so unassuming that’s it’s hard to think of her as a solver of mysteries. I think it was mentioned in here that she is just nosy. I would agree with that assessment. I did like her outlook on the school work.
Overall it’s a nice story.

Shattered: Rhodes Family Book 1 by Lisa Wood – Review by Carrie Reed

5 stars!

What a sweet story! This book made me feel so much and I was so heartbroken for Olivia. The way she was treated with her last relationship was just terrible. I had a feeling she would meet a guy that would change her outlook love and then screw her over and that is exactly what happened. Although the book was predictable at times I was still thrown for a loop when all the drama started going down with what happens to Gabe. Overall a sweet and sexy romance and a playboy who turns his life around. It was nice to see Gabe’s whole family rallying around Olivia and falling in love with her as much as Gave was. I love a good epilogue and this one did not disappoint me. I am truly looking forward to reading the story of Ava and her men!!

This was such a wonderful read, I enjoyed everything about it. The authors writing flowed so well it was a real pleasure to read and I just loved the characters, the relationship they had, the interaction between the and there were certainly times where I could absolutely relate to the things that were going on. This is book 1 in the series and whilst all three sisters are in it this is Jamie’s story and her course to her happily ever after and wedding day. I loved the originality of the story and I am definitely looking forward to the other sisters finding the partner of their dreams through the wedding dress of their late grandmother!
I definitely recommend this story and can’t wait to read the next book!

Drawn to Him by Tammy Mannersly – Review by Katie Matthews

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I LOVED this story so much! I think I fell in love with the main characters straight away. The authors’ writing was wonderful and I was so engaged with what I was reading as well as connected to the characters, Erica and Matt. The author really got across the emotions going on in the story and I could really feel that as the reader. I could really feel the instant yet genuine attraction that the characters had for each other; I was rooting for them the whole way through. Along with Erica and Matt there were some excellent secondary characters who were just as well thought out as the main ones and it really made a difference to the story in my opinion!
I 100% recommend this wonderful small town romance read, it was a fantastic story and I cannot wait to read more from Ms Mannersly again in the future.

I’ve read most of the book now in this series and I think this is definitely my favourite by far! Wow what a read! I think to keep a series going this long is such an achievement and it honestly just keeps getting better and better. The twists and turns in the story definitely kept me on the edge of seat the whole way through – this one was such an exciting read! I love Petrosky, he’s such an interesting character to read about and I have thoroughly enjoyed following him as he solves all of these cases. The authors writing is style is excellent, really engaging and the stories flow really well. I am so excited to read more from Ms Flynn again in the future and I highly recommend this book and series!
