Alamir (Blood of Kaos Series Book 1) by Nesa Miller – Review by Kerry Baker

AlamirAlamir by Nesa Miller
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Alamir: Blood of Kaos by Nesa Miller is an exciting fantasy story with some really interesting characters. Etian is a strong and wilful heroine that is thrown unexpectedly into a world that she didn’t believe existed.
For me this book was made by the characters. I thought each of them had a unique take about them and they all worked together to make the story stronger. The overall writing itself I found to be a little disjointed although the story was exciting to read. It definitely felt like the first book in the series and I am convinced that it will only get better as the series goes on.
I am looking forward to see where the author takes this series and I am certainly looking forward to reading more of these brilliant characters.

This was such a wonderful read from beginning to end. This is my first read by Lucinda Race, and I can’t wait to read more by her. This was an easy read that flowed effortlessly from chapter to chapter that had me hooked from the very beginning. I absolutely loved these characters, they really brought the story to life, made it more real and even made me connect to the story that bit more. Jamie and Caleb were everything and more, I loved following their journey and loved finding out what fate had in store for them. This book really does give you all the best of emotions but I think all the best romance reads do! This is a book not to be missed, its captivating, romantic and swoon-worthy all at the same time and should be read by all! I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to read more from this author!

Shattered: Rhodes Family Book 1 by Lisa Wood – Review by Rosanna Ingram

Gabe is a playboy who doesn’t do relationships. When he meets Olivia as he is interviewing for a new junior partner. Wanting to find a way to keep Olivia around, he takes steps unheard of at the firm to make sure she chooses to work for him.
As their relationship develops, an underlying secret threatens to crumble their foundation at any moment. When that secret comes to light, the series of events that happens puts their real feelings into perspective.
The characters in this book were easy to love. The entire Rhodes family is full of great characters. Olivia is guarded due to her past and it keeps her from opening her heart up completely. I was rooting for her and Gabe to make it work. I am also interested in the other family members and hope to read about them in the future.

Falling for the Texan (Prentice Brothers of Sweet Ridge, #2)Falling for the Texan by Nicole Flockton

5 stars!

So cute, this gives me vibes from the movie New In Town, I love a good small town romance. Gianna and Tyler are from complete opposite spectrum of living. Gianna is from the city and Tyler is from a town in the middle of nowhere. He wants to make his winery a success and she wants to prove she should keep her job. With everything she is going through at work it is easy to understand why she wants everything to go her way and why she would push against Tyler’s ideas to make this the best ad campaign. I feel like poor Tyler felt he was always not good enough to his family an has something to prove. The two of these characters together are perfect and and the story is super sweet. This story was completely worth the read and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book with Trey.

I loved reading the book True Bastard (A Dark Sparrow Novel Book 4) by India Kells. It is a story that pulled me in from the beginning and didn’t let me go until the final page. It is a book that includes action, danger, suspense, and romance. I loved reading about the characters of Liam Harker and Sister Catriona Walsh. Liam is a cop who enjoys his job and is determined to bringing his father to justice. He finds himself unprepared when he meets the woman who is to help him succeed. The woman he meets is Sister Catriona Walsh. Catriona Walsh is a woman who is good with numbers and following financial accounts. Will she be the one that helps bring his father down? Liam knows that Catriona is off-limits, however, why is his attraction to her so intense? Read this book to find out what happens. This is a story that had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. I found myself caring about what happens to Liam and Catriona with every chapter that I read. They both deserve happiness. I also loved that the characters from the previous Dark Sparrow stories are brought forward to this one. I enjoyed reading about them again and how they all interact with each other. The author does a wonderful job of making both the storyline and the characters come alive on the pages. I loved reading the book EverMarked by AJ Eversley. It is a story that pulled me in from the very beginning and didn’t let me go until the final page. It is a book that includes action, mystery, danger, and even a bit of romance. I loved reading about the characters of Sienna and Jayla. Sienna is an intelligent, strong, and independent girl. She is one that will protect those she cares about. Jayla is a girl who is helping to keep the city that she lives in safe. She is one that has a fierce determination to understand what is going on around her and won’t stop until she finds the truth. I grew to care about what happens to Sienna and Jayla with each chapter the I read. You can’t help but root for them to succeed in whatever they need to accomplish. This is a story that had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. There are twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. Distant Heart Sounds (Nurse Morgan Series Book 1)
By Kate MacInnis
5 out of 5 stars

I loved reading the book Distant Heart Sounds (Nurse Morgan Series Book 1) by Kate MacInnis. It is a wonderful paranormal/romance story that pulled me in from the beginning and I was hooked. I loved reading about the character of Morgan Cutler. She is an ER center nurse who finds herself with psychic abilities after a near-death experience. Morgan is a woman who works hard, is intelligent, and is not in a relationship at the current moment. What she finds herself experiencing at first has her wondering what is happening and then as the story progresses, she finds herself able to be more accepting of them. This story has comical moments, I was laughing out loud at some of the interactions between the characters. Morgan also opens herself up to a relationship with a new handsome/charming ER doctor. I grew to care about what happens to both Morgan and the doctor. They are a good pair and I couldn’t help but root for them to give their relationship a chance. Other additional characters are introduced, and I enjoyed reading about them and the part that they play in the story. Don’t miss out on a story that is intriguing and entertaining. I highly recommend reading it.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Drawn to Him by Tammy Mannersly is the first book I’ve read by this author and won’t be the last, as I loved this book. The way the author writes you feel as if you are there with the characters. This was a fast-paced short romance novel that follows Erica and Matthew. Erica is not looking for love, to many failed attempts tend to do that to a girl. So of course, when she meets Dr Matt after injuring herself and feels the instant attraction, she starts denying it. Dr Matt isn’t looking for love until he meets Erica and she touches him. That single touch ignites a fire in his soul. What will happen between these two? Can Erica give him a chance? I highly recommend you read to find out.

I loved reading the book Lucky at Love (Some guys just never give up) by Cynthia Hamilton. It is a story that pulled me in from the beginning and didn’t let me go until the final page. I loved reading about the characters of Allison Tyler and Jake Sorenson. When Allison decides to explore the reason that some people keep falling in love and then out of love, she can’t think of a better example than Jake. Jake is a man who doesn’t see his marriages as failures even when they have all ended in divorce. It seems as if Jake is making all the same mistakes over and over. What does Allison learn from her time interviewing and questioning Jake? Read this book to find out. This is an amazing story that will have your emotions going up and down the entire time you are reading it. I grew to care about Jake and Allison with every chapter that I read. I enjoyed the bantering/interactions between them, even the ones that had them at odds with each other. There are additional characters that are introduced, and I enjoyed reading about the part that they play in the story. The author does a wonderful job of making both the storyline and that characters come alive on the pages. Don’t miss out on an intriguing and entertaining story that is hard to put down until you have read the ending. I highly recommend reading it.

The Abduction Of Sarah Tarbell: As Her Soul Remembers is the first book I have read by Stuart Ledwith. This book is a truly unusual genre. We learn how a young girl survives in the 1700’s including being abducted by Indians. The author is channeling Sarah. The descriptions are a amazing and seem true to the time period. I really enjoyed this unique story and look forward to reading more books by Mr Ledwith. I’m interested to see if they fall within this genre.

Pair that with her passion for writing and her love of a good happily-ever-after, and becoming a paranormal romance author seems like the only logical career choice.

Before she decided to turn her love of the written word into a career, Carrie spent the first part of her professional life as a high school journalism and yearbook teacher. She loves good chocolate and bad puns, and in her free time, she likes to read, drink wine, and travel with her family.

Sienna has spent her entire life inside the DEZ, a glorified orphanage for unwanted Marked kids. Finally, she’s only months away from graduation. For over a year she’s worked hard to prepare for life outside the DEZ, but being the arena’s champion isn’t always an easy task…even for the notorious Blaze. Fighting in the Underground isn’t about the thrill or the glory, though Sienna has achieved both, it’s about the money—and a way out.

When an explosion rocks the city of Cytos, the Marked kids find themselves at the center of a brewing war. Desperation brings Sienna into the arena one last time, only her opponent, the Wraith, won’t be so easy to defeat. And for Sienna, failure is not an option.

Jayla is a Watcher. She’s been tasked with keeping her city safe from an enemy the citizens don’t even know exists. For over 150 years the Watchers have kept them safe, but a darkness has awoken, and even the shadows have gone quiet in fear.

When Jayla fails to stop the explosion at the Genetics Lab, she and her team vow to find those responsible. Soon they discover the Marked kids are at the center of it all. To figure out what’s going on, Jayla will have to step back into the arena and become something she thought she’d tried to forget. She must become the Wraith, even if only for a night, to acquire an ally and a way into the DEZ. But can she do it without losing herself again?

Peace has always been the goal, and they’ve succeeded for a long time, but at what cost? How long can a deadly secret be hidden from the world? This isn’t a fight for glory and riches…this is a battle of survival.

As an avid reader from a young age, it only made sense that one day I would write my own stories. I grew up in a small town in central Alberta, Canada where there wasn’t much to do but read, cheer on the Oilers and attempt to enjoy the long winter months.

I began writing when the ideas and stories in my head kept filling up space and I knew I had to get them on paper. My first book series, The WATCHER Series, is now available, and my second four-book series The EVERMARKED Series, set in the same world is currently being released (Book One is now available).

Forest Park: Logan Book 2 (The Logan McKenna Series)Forest Park: Logan Book 2 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Forest Park is the second book in The Logan McKenna Series by Valerie Davisson.
Even though this is only the second book in the series, our leading lady, Logan has been through quite a lot. This book sees her investigating another murder, this time with links to the Vietnam War. Logan will need to sort through all the secrets, half truths, drama, and history- to get to the bottom of it all. We also get a front row seat to her own life as she embraces her own new beginnings.
This is my favourite of the series so far.

Thank you, Valerie Davisson!

Once again I find myself at a loss for words. What can you say about The Trouble With Paradise (A Madeline Dawkins Mystery Book 4) by Cynthia Hamilton? I can honestly say that out of all the Mysteries that I have read since the beginning of this year Madeline and Mike have intrigued me the most. I love these little mysteries, it seems like there’s a different theme that runs through each one and it certainly was the for this one. But the most exciting thing about this mystery is that the romance between Madeline and Mike has been driving me crazy. They are, they aren’t, there might be someone else. You know it was just making me a nervous wreck. This story… well you’re just going to have to read it yourself.

When the opportunity presents itself, Amanda is determined to get the next location of the reality TV show to be Hood River. This may just be the opportunity Amanda needs to win back Kent. Will thirty days be enough to bring back all the happy memories between Amanda and Kent? The author does a wonderful job portraying the true relationship between Amanda and Kent. Better Than Goodbye (Venture Book 1)Better Than Goodbye by Kinney Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Better Than Goodbye is the opening act of Kinney Scott’s Venture series. It is a beautifully written sweet second chance romance that you will fall into and do not want to leave. I have always loved stories that take place in Northwest and highlights the magnificent nature that I fell in love with when I lived there! This was my first read by Kinney Scott and I cannot wait for the next one in the series! I think I will go and pick up her In Ashwood series as there were couple of references in the story that got me curious!
I have to admit that the first few chapters drove me nuts as I felt that the writer is speeding the story along BUT then I got to the ‘present’ and it started totally make sense! I actually ended up appreciating her way of telling the ‘past’!
Better Than Goodbye is the second chance story of Amanda and Kent, they go back for a very long time and they share a special connection but like with all of us, sometimes the life simply happens and things go awry. Now, they have an opportunity for a second chance and they are taking us along on a heady ride filled emotional highs and lows and our hope for the eventual happy ending! I cannot wait for the next one in the series as I hope it will be Amanda’s roomie!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was my first book by Victoria Saccenti. Her writing style is a simple layout. She connects all the t’s and dots the i’s. Her plotline moves quickly. She keeps the action going. I did not lose interest in this story. There were twists and turns that kept my interest moving right along with the characters of the book. Her characters are fully developed and intriguing. The characters grow with the plotline. The main character is a Marine. That alone piqued my interest because Marines do everything all the way because failure is not an option.I highly recommend this story to see what the Marine does not to fail.

Better Than Goodbye (Venture Book 1) by Kinney Scott – Review by Lisa Helmick

Better Than Goodbye (Venture Book 1)Better Than Goodbye by Kinney Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

started this out wondering if I would like this book after reading the first few chapters. Well after finishing it I can say I loved it and the characters. These two have such feelings for each other that it just sparks off the pages whenever they are together. As I was going through this book I could really see these two growing up and becoming more mature as the book went on. It was nice seeing them change and improve.

While the main characters were my focus. I couldn’t get past a few of the secondary characters. Babette was a fun add. I loved her no holds barred personality. Duncan and Sig were nice and added to the Venture side of things. I Love how the title was worked into the story multiple times.

Overall it is a great story and I really fell for the characters. I would suggest in the beginning putting ages, years or months at the beginning of the chapters so the reader knows the time change. Also just keeping an eye on the timeline. It seems to vary a couple times. I did greatly enjoy this and thought about them even after I was finished. I look forward to the next one….hopefully Babette and Duncan get a story.

Forest Park: Logan Book 2 (The Logan McKenna Series)Forest Park: Logan Book 2 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Davisson continues the Logan series with another fabulous detail packed story. I really appreciate the level of detail this author uses to describe her characters and the storyline progression. The imagery is so vibrant that I felt like I was walking with the characters through the story and was kept guessing as to what would happen next. I loved how the author drew me in and the adventure that unfolded. I look forward to seeing how the the series continues to develop!

Fatal Legislation: A Novel: Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 2 by Ellen Butler – Review by Amanda Kimble

5/5 Stars

Fatal Legislation (Karina Cardinal Mystery #2) by Ellen Butler

This is the second book in the Karina Cardinal Mystery Series and I’ve got to say Ellen sure knows how to write. I absolutely loved this book and really can’t wait for the next Butler Book.

Karina Cardinal is back at it again. Solving mysteries when she should be working. That’s nothing new for our lovely Karina. Her friendship with Matt is moving forward, until they get stuck.

The death of a Senator causes Karina to be in the middle of a situation. Then the death of a high up person is tricky. The third death though closes the case. The deaths don’t stop there. The quote I choose for Karina is: “Mike, I’ve been giving this a lot of thought. My sister says it’s time for us to move this relationship forward. And she’s right. We’ve been dancing around a sexual liaison for too long now. Do you want to move the relationship forward?”

Crime lovers and romance readers alike will love this. Highly recommended book and I will be waiting for #3.

Old and New: The Enchanted Wedding Dress (The MacLellan Sisters Trilogy #1) by Lucinda Race

This was the first book I’ve read by the author, but it won’t be my last. Old and New is the first book in The MacLellan Sisters Trilogy. To say that I can’t wait for book 2 is an understatement.

Jamie, oldest MacLellan sister, gets the pleasure of keeping her grandmother’s things. That includes a wedding dress that’s supposed to be enchanted. Jamie tries it on and she meets a guy. What happens when she falls for his twin? The quote I choose for Jamie is: “It rolls off the tongue and I’ve never hung out with one before. You’ve got skills I only dream of having.”

Caleb, twin brother to Steve Sullivan, meets Jamie when she meets with Steve. When Steve lets him know Jamie invited him for dinner with them He doesn’t realize he’s intruding on a date. He then finds himself drawn to Jamie. The quote I choose for Caleb is: “Jamie, I’ve wanted you from the moment I laid eyes on you. When you struggled with the door knob at Steve’s all this, is all I’ve wanted. To be with you.”

Romance readers, fairytale believers this book is for you! I highly recommend it and I’m not sorry. Lucinda Race has amazed me.

Secure Desire (Chase Security Series Book 1) by R.L. Dunn – Review by Kerry Baker

Secure Desire (Chase Security Series Book 1)Secure Desire by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Secure Desire by RL Dunn is a novel belonging to the Chase Group series. This book is fast paced, action packed and a great book to read!
I thought the characters in this book had a great connection between them. They seemed to work really with each other and complimented the other. The story was quite complex, possibly a little too complex at times, but it grabs your attention and does a good job of holding it until the last page. This book is definitely worth your time if this is your genre.

Forest Park: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 2 (The Logan McKenna Series) by Valerie Davisson – Review by Kerry Baker

Forest Park: Logan Book 2 (The Logan McKenna Series)Forest Park: Logan Book 2 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Forest Park: A Logan McKenna Mystery by Valerie Davisson is the second book in the Logan McKenna series. This book was such a well written book that I cannot imagine anyone not being hooked! In this book the author has chosen to tackle some pretty sensitive topics and yet she does it with such ease and sympathy that it never feels too jarring.
The characters in the story were all so interesting, and I liked how it felt as if the author treated them all with the respect they seemed to deserve. I was a little intrigued by nearly all of them and thought they really combined together well.
The story itself was also really interesting. I liked the dual storyline that wove through the book, it added an extra depth to an already great book. I really enjoyed the first book but I have to say this one is definitely already my favourite of this series! I am looking forward to what else might be next.
