Something Lost (Funerals and Weddings Series Book 1) by Bernadette Marie – Review by Karyn Taylor

Something LostSomething Lost by Bernadette Marie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Something Lost is the first book in the Funerals and Weddings series by Bernadette Marie. Bernadette Marie has an amazing talent of writing series that focus on a family and we get the stories of each of the siblings. In this series we are getting the stories of 5 guys who played on the same team in college, known as The Famous Five.
We start with the funeral of their coach which brings the five guys together. In this book we get the story of star player Craig Turner who had broke the rules and dated the coach’s daughter. Now 10 years later they meet again at his funeral. Will the spark still be there?
I absolutely adored Craig and Rachel’s story. I’m a sucker for a good second chance romance and this is definitely a good second chance romance. Of course the path to true love never runs smoothly and there are many obstacles in Rachel and Craig’s way, including Rachel’s family who blamed Craig for they problems Rachel had when he went off to college. Can Rachel and Craig convince her family that they are meant to be together? That they have both still loved each other after all these years?
One thing I loved about this book is the camaraderie between the five guys and I can’t wait to get to know the others better as we get each of their stories.

Something Lost (Funerals and Weddings Series Book 1) by Bernadette Marie. This is a great second chance love story. Its the story of Rachel who was in a relationship with Craig all thru school. Her dad was the high school coach and Craig was his star player. Craig left Rachel to pursue his dreams and she was heartbroken. Fast forward years later and they meet again at her dad’s funeral. They soon realize they never let go of those old feelings and the spark was still there. Craig tries to explain why he left when he did and Rachel wants to believe him but she still struggles. Rachel has had a lot of hurt and past trauma in her life so letting go of that to be able to love and be happy is a struggle. Will Rachel be able to trust Craig enough to tell him what happened to her when he left? Will they be able to put the past behind them and move forward? Read Something Lost to find out!

This was my first time reading Bernadette Marie and I enjoyed the first book of her new series. Admittedly, I have a soft spot for second chance romances! I feel like she developed her characters well and presented them in a realistic way.

Craig and Rachel were each other’s first love. This is the story of how they get back to that love, what happened to them in the in between, and how they worked through the trauma of it. I appreciated the acknowledgement to mental health and how Rachel sought out help to deal with the loss of her brother and her own issues with depression.

All the characters in the coming books are introduced and I am looking forward to reading more about them and how they find love! Honestly, I just love when there is a group of people that are there for each other through thick and thin. I want them all to find their happy ever after ending!

This is a nice story. I like the whole friendship among the guys. How they were always there for each other. That is my favorite thing about this story. Craig and Rachel have a love story over the years. They have a quick relationship but its a slower story in order to bring out all their aches and pains of the past and not being together. This is a wonderful first book of a new series.

I loved this book right off the bat. I loved all the members of the Fabulous five almost immediately. I am hoping in the next four installments that we see each of these men settle down! I do have to say that the main female lead Rachel was someone that I could definitely see myself being best friends with if she were real. I can not wait for the release of the next few books!

A strong start to the series
A contemporary romance with a second chance feel. The story has all the feels. The focus for this book is on Craig and Rachel and overcoming their past demons. I hope this is a series where we still get glimpses of each couple in future books as I would like to see where Craig and Rachel end up. I liked each of the members of the team and I look forward to their individual stories. An easy to read, sweet romance series starter that most will enjoy.

Something Lost (Funerals and Weddings Series Book 1) by Bernadette Marie

This is the second book by Ms. Marie I have had the pleasure of reading and I have no doubts that I will be reading more especially this series.

I read a lot of books and there are some that I read pretty quick while others not quite as fast.  This was one of the books I read pretty quick because I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen between Craig and Rachel and how it all went down.

I’m lucky to have a few friends from my high school years that I’m still close with and each time we get together it’s like no time has passed which is what I saw with Craig and his friends.

I throughly enjoyed this Book and can’t wait to read the next in this series.

This is not my first rodeo with this gifted author, but once again they know how to bring not only a story to life, but also the characters, How they write, is more than just a technique, their characters that they create tend to leap off the page in a sense of how realistic they are! The story was a wonderful read, start to finish.

I loved how I was able to relate not only in sense to the charact4ers, but you really got a feel for them! For the character Craig. He did a lot of growing up through out this novel I found he had big dreams he wanted to make soar, but somethings he wanted or even had, had to be left in the dust to achieve these goals and that is exactly what he chose…but were they truly the best decisions for him? He loved Rachel, truly yes. She was left behind, but perhaps she kept a piece of her heart always?

Rachel grew up as well. She did not at times have the best father and daughter relationship. I found she chose to grow up to be what was expected of her and not really what she wanted. At first glance it seemed her and Craig were the match made in Heave, but both of them chose different lives and paths. Is this how it was meant to be? Or did fate have other plans for these two souls?

Years passed since Craig and Rachel first saw one another or even interacted for that matter. A sad time brought them together. One thing was certain though, though the times and years that had passed, they never truly let go of one another. When they got to spend time together again, i found it was as of all those years and time was swept away, they had so much chemistry and good moments between them it seemed as if they both were thinking and realizing maybe they have a chance as the one thing that would completely make them happy and full their hearts with no doubts?

I loved reading Craig’s and Rachel’s story. They seemed so real, as if I was sitting listening to their story and more like they were close friends to me, and I was the cheerleader rooting for them to take that chance as well as leap of faith they ended up missing out on. The story was more than just touching and emotional, it was beautiful, fragile, and to me reading their story shows you what makes life worth it.

I really enjoyed this book, and once again enjoyed this story by this captivating author. I look forward to the next in their series they have started here. This was a well written book, and one I enjoyed very much with all my heart. Yes, I highly recommend. It is defiantly a read worth while in more ways than one!

This is a truly beautiful book. It is so romantic with bits of tragedy within. Rachel has overcome some deeply tragic stuff. She has used that to become a social worker. Craig comes back into her life. He was her high school sweetheart. Together these two overcame a history filled with so much drama and have come together to create a new life. Rachel, Craig and their friends are created to feel so real that you can feel their pain, angst, happiness and every other emotion. It’s just so real. Parts of the story ripped my heart out because it could have come straight from the news. So much heart ache, yet they could turn it around. You have to read this book. Run don’t walk, to pick up this book. I highly recommend. It would get 10 stars

Craig and Rachel go their separate paths but return when Rachel’s father passes away. Chemistry and romance rekindle when they meet up again. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites yet by her. This is a well written story about romance and second chances. I enjoyed being pulled into the story by the author’s use of details giving the story a realistic feel. The characters are connectable and make the story engaging. I found this story to be a fast paced romance story about Craig and Rachel. They once had something which was brief but when they meet again at a funeral could this be the second chance fate is giving them? I enjoyed their growth throughout the story as well as their chemistry together. They brought the story to life on each page and had great support by the secondary characters. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

Some Lost by Bernadette Marie is the first book in the Funerals and Weddings series. This is a great second chance romance that is all about the characters. I liked both Craig and Rachel. It really felt like they were the focus of the story, that everything built around them. I did think that at times the story needed a little more detail to it. The author could have really added an even deeper level to it. However I did think the story was enjoyable and the overall idea came across well. Another thoroughly story by a great author.

Funerals and Weddings Series
Book 1
By Bernadette Marie
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
This is a full length novel loaded with a forbidding romance. Just the contemporary romance we all need. No spoilers will be found in this review.
Rachel Diaz is the coach’s daughter and the forbidden fruit. Craig Turner and his basketball mates knew this all too well. Returning home for Coach Diaz’s funeral, old memories between the Fabulous Five help the men to get caught up on each other’s lives. But for Rachel and Craig it could be so much more than a goodbye to the coach. Can Rachel and Craig become so much more than friends? Only reading this story will bring this book to life.

Bernadette Marie has written this book so clearly I felt like she Introduced the characters to me and the readers. I felt as part of this story starting in chapter one. Reading as the romance built from the loss of a parent and old friends was heartwarming. Bernadette Marie kept this story going, with the emotional events as they happened. As I watched this story come to life in my mind’s eye. She won’t disappoint her readers. Well Done Bernadette Marie! Well Done! ! !

Something Lost is the first book in the Funerals and Weddings series by Bernadette Marie. It is the start of a new series, which looks set to be great. This is a contemporary romance about never forgetting your first love and second chances.
Craig and Rachel were high school sweethearts- he was one of her father’s star players, and she was the coach’s daughter. Circumstances tore them apart- only to come face to face again for the first time at her father’s funeral. Old feelings bubble to the surface and the spark of romance is rekindled. But, there are secrets that will need to be addressed and the past dealt with, if they stand any chance of a future together. A sweet start to this new series.
Looking forward to more.

Thank you, Bernadette Marie.

This is a beautiful story about a second chance love. The characters are really easy to like and you can’t help wanting their love to succeed. The author does an amazing job of making the reader experience all the emotions that they go through.

Craig and Rachel’s story restarts after they meet at her father’s funeral. Even after all the years that have past their connection is strong. However neither knew what to expect. Would it just be a catch up with old friends or would something be rekindled between them.

They have both grown up since the last time they were  together. Rachel has some secrets and scars in her past that could make or break them. Will Craig be strong enough and the man she needs to support her as she faces her demons or will their second chance be over as quickly as it starts?

I was pleasantly surprised with how much I loved this book! I went into it thinking it was going to be a cheesy romance, which let’s face it, would not be a bad thing. Along with a romance, there was a mystery, danger, and surprising plot twist that kept you guessing the entire time. My opinions of various characters kept switching around and adjusting with every few pages. Will definitely recommend, and will definitely read again! Looking forward to the next!

Walker Pride (The Walker Family, #1)Walker Pride by Bernadette Marie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Eric Walker is a true cowboy at heart, he lives on his own and runs a business on a ranch where he boards horses and raises beef cattle, he has a big family nearby and a routine and structure in his life which he has developed over time, but that all changes when his grandfather dies. Susan Hayes has moved to Georgia to make a new life for herself, she is running her own catering business and has dreams of opening her own restaurant, so she attends culinary school on the nights where she isn’t catering for parties and events, but all that is about to change when she caters for a funeral at the Walker estate.

Eric prefers his own company to that of his family, so when he goes to his family’s house, he is not in the best of moods, because he has already had to spend the day before interacting with them all, so when he storms into the back door of the house to listen to the reading of the will, the last thing he expects to see is the caterer and he is the last thing she is expecting to see either. They are both immediately struck by the other, but when Eric starts to pinch food off of her platters before they are even set up, she knows that he is trouble personified, however, she is intrigued by him during their small conversation and Eric cannot stop conversing with her despite the fact that it is completely out of his character, that is until he is summoned into the study with the rest of the family.

As the will is being read, some shocking family secrets come out of the woodwork when they find out that they are going to have to relinquish half of their lands back to their original owners as payment of a gambling debt which his Uncle got himself into, they also find out that there are other things mentioned which make the entire group angry and stressed out, especially Eric as the part of the land is the one on which he has built his life, business and home. Susan meanwhile is doing her best not to listen in to the raised voices and keep her professional demeanor in tact, however, when the conversation comes round to one of Eric’s cousins that she needs a place to stay while she is visiting, Susan immediately offers her a place to stay as she is in need of a roommate and also needs help in the business, so she offers a job as well. Eric’s cousin is taken aback at the ofer and agrees to think about it before leaving to escape to Eric’s house and away from the family she doesn’t believe even want her there. It is during this conversation and the rest of the afternoon that Eric realises that he cannot get Susan out of his mind, so when his cousin calls to go and see the house, he jumps at the chance to see Susan and get a glimpse into her life at the same time. One house tour and dinner later, the deal is done and Susan is inadvertently invited for breakfast at Eric’s, despite the fact that he cannot cook and has a houseful of drunken brothers when he returns home.

The next day, Susan surprises Eric with a lunch at his home, when this goes well, he insists on the breakfast date again and when he wakes up early and goes to see to his horses, he surprisingly finds Susan already up at the barn taking photographs, also to his amazement and hers, they end up in a passionate kiss before being interrupted by one of Eric’s brothers. As the days progress and Eric and Susan become more involved, Eric’s family troubles are just getting started, as well as the land, they also want to move his mother’s gravesite, then he finds out that his horse and one of the horses boarded in his barn, as well as six head of cattle have been poisoned and none survive the ordeal, including his partner in crime and best friend. He is torn up and turns to Susan for comfort, but will their newly forged bond be enough to see them through the hard times to come, or will their pasts get in the way of what could be something beautiful? As things turn from bad to worse, will Eric survive the attempts on his life, or will his Walker pride prevail and see him through? This is a romantic suspense with secrets, revelations, romance and grief all rolled up into one fantastic package which will leave you wanting to read more.

Great start to a series. This story definitely has some twists and turns I did not see coming. The plot flowed so easily in this book. I love the chemistry between Susan and Eric, even though Eric is a bit set in his ways and stubborn, there is not denying their attraction. When a Walker family member passes away, there are family secrets that come out…..and I was shocked on some things that do happen (I wont give them away). Susan is a caterer that has been hired for the will reading at the Walker Farm after the grandfather passes away. She meets Eric the eldest son and is intrigued by him from their first meeting. They both have haunted pasts that have somewhat come to haunt them in their everyday lives now. All of the drama started before they were ever born and it is now being brought to light. Walker Pride (The Walker Family, #1)Walker Pride by Bernadette Marie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Bernadette Marie once again knocked it out of the park with Walker Pride. It is the first book in the Walker Family series. This book centers around the eldest of the Walker children, Eric. We first meet him as he is dealing with his grandfather’s death. There were many characters in the story including 5 children each by Everett and Byron Walker. Surprisingly, it did not get confusing. The focus stayed on a small amount of characters, making it easy to keep up with who was who. There were also some context clues if you forgot who someone was. I found myself identifying with love interest Susan Hayes. She is a strong woman who has overcome much, yet allows herself to take a chance on love again. Eric is clumsy and awkward dating Susan which just made him even more endearing. Not only was this a romance, there was mystery. I was certain I knew who was behind the property destruction and animal deaths. I was completely wrong! I highly recommend reading this book. It was fun and kept me hooked!

Walker Pride (The Walker Family #1) by Bernadette Marie

This is the first book I’ve read by Marie. To say that this book was fantastic would be an understatement. I can’t put into words how much I love this book.

Susan moved from Colorado to the lovely state of Georgia. She is getting her business off the ground by going to trade school and catering. She doesn’t expect to fall in love with the Walker Family and one Eric Walker. The quote I chose for Susan is: “I always thought it would be interesting to be a mail carrier or even a trash collector. Can you even imagine what they know?”

Eric is a homebody. He doesn’t like others being in his space. When his uncle decides that he wants to gamble away some of the Walker land he gives away Eric’s home. The quote I chose for Eric is: “You pave a path for yourself. His has been paved with mistakes the entire family has had to pay for.”

Highly recommended for Western Romance lovers.

Walker Pride (The Walker Family, #1)Walker Pride by Bernadette Marie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Walker Pride is the first book of the Walker Family series by Bernadette Marie. I discovered this book to have exceptionally well-developed characters. Eric Walker was the oldest brother that lived in a house on the far edge of the property where he ran a horse-boarding business. When he has to go to the main house for the reading of his grandfather’s will, he encounters Susan Hayes. After a few pleasantries were exchanged, his stepmother hurries him into the office where Eric’s whole world gets flipped upside down. His uncle Byron had gambled away the property and house that Eric had been on, and his grandfather had paid the debt by willing the property to Elias Morgan. Obviously upset, Eric hangs about with his cousin Bethany for a while. Bethany was in search of a place to live since the death of her mother. Ironically, Susan was in search of someone to be a roommate and help with her larger catering jobs. Eric intrigued with Susan and goes with Bethany to see Susan’s home. They end up going to dinner, and Eric pays. He tells Susan “You owe me one.”

The plot thickens with Eric’s violent interaction with Tyson Morgan. Susan and Eric develop a “thing” that they try to define and eventually settle on a possible long-term relationship. One morning, Eric discovers that someone has poisoned some of his horses and the cattle start dying as well. Who would do this? Eric suspects the Morgans and goes insane when he discovers Susan’s car at their home. I was shell shocked when I discovered the answers and the extreme secrets that are revealed as the story continues to unfold. This is a book that I cannot even think of scoring less than 5-stars. If you are looking for a romance story with mystery and fast pace revelations, this is one I would recommend highly.

While I didn’t immediately get into the story I am glad that I continued reading because it turned out to be a fantastic book. I expected it to be just a romantic story, but it contained quite a bit of suspense as well. The author did a really great job with the twists and turns she incorporated into this book and I found myself really wanting answers and the truth. The main characters are so different, yet so alike and meant for one another. I can’t wait to read the next installment in this family read.

This was a great book! I seriously can’t wait for the next book in the series! Walker Pride is book 1 in the Walker Family series by Bernadette Marie. Susan is trying to build her catering business up so she moves to Georgia. Eric is part of the Walker clan and basically just wants to be left alone to do what he always does, which is to take care of the land that he lives on. That is until a family member passes away and all hell comes to head. At the reading of the will, Eric stumbles upon Susan while she caterers this luncheon. She is a bit intriguing to him and he finds himself wanting to know more. Susan just got divorced not too long ago but Eric Walker is interesting and not to mention, pretty hot. I agree that this book was a little bit slow at first but quickly picks up and becomes a serious page turner! I loved the characters and the little bit of mystery with all the family secrets. This is definitely a book that I would recommend and will wait quite anxiously for the next book in the series!

This is a good story with A LOT going on.

Susan is following her dream and opening up her business in a new town. The last thing she needs in her life is a broody cowboy that she can’t seem to get off her mind. After her last relationship, she wants to protect her heart at all costs. But somehow the cowboy is finding his way in.

Eric works hard and keeps to himself. His family’s land is his world…and it is being threatened to be taken away from him due to Uncle’s bad decisions. One day he crosses paths with a woman that he can’t seem to stop thinking about. He is a loner, and he’s fine with that…but why Susan vacate his thoughts?!?

While Eric and Susan are dancing around their feelings for each other and their need to protect their own hearts…there is so much going on in the story. There is mystery…secrets that are going to blow your mind…a southern family filled with cowboys…and food that will make your mouth water!

I enjoyed reading this book. It is not my first book from this author…and it definitely won’t be the last. There is so much going on that I am looking forward to reading the next book. I am invested in this family now!

Walker Pride (The Walker Family Book 1) by Bernadette Marie is a western romance story.

Susan Hayes relocated to Georgia to start a new life and advance her catering business. Eric Walker and his family appeared in her life just as she was about to achieve all she had ever desired. Eric Walker’s life had been peaceful, orderly, and uninteresting until his uncle squandered away the family’s assets, putting Eric’s livelihood in jeopardy. He fell in love in the middle of family secrets being revealed, someone damaging his company, and someone attempting to force him off his farm. Things will never be the same for them again, especially if the Walker family is destroyed and Eric is killed.

I loved every page of it. I can’t wait to read the rest of the other books in this series to find out what happens.
