CAFE CONFIDENTIAL: An unfiltered and intimate memoir by Lynda Filler
5 out of 5 stars I have read a few books written by Ms. Filler I jumped at the chance to read her memoir. I wish I could just up and sell everything I owned and buy a one-way ticket for amazing adventure. While reading Ms. Fillers memoir you could feel her emotions and her strength through her journey. The way she describes the countries and places that she visits each country is very vivid and the people that she met on her journey make you feel like your there with her and I loved the pictures. I really recommend this memoir written by Ms. Filler and see what she gets up to in her amazing journey.

Cafe Confidential: An unfiltered and intimate memoir was written by Author Lynda Filler about herself. This is a new genre for me. I don’t usually read memoirs. This book covers Lynda’s many travels around the world, as well as touches on her relationships with her friends, family, and several men over her lifetime. Lynda was a good girl from Canada who followed the rules in her younger years. Lynda only took time off from being a working woman to bring her children into the world and she finds herself missing something in life. She finds out she has a heart condition that may take her life, and she decides she needs to live her life. She packs the only belongings she wants to own into a suitcase, sells and liquidates everything she owns, and sets off on an adventure. I found this book to be a slow-paced read. I enjoyed it chapter by chapter over the course of a week. I found I learned a lot about people of different countries, as well as a great amount about those countries themselves. Unfortunately, I felt like there was a lot of missed opportunities to use more colorful writing to describe many of the places she had visited. I also felt like I didn’t connect with Lynda on a personal level. The story felt more matter of fact than I would have liked. However, overall, I give this story 4 stars!

This is the story of author Lynda Filler and her journey around the world, it is a journal full of experiences, photographs and love. The chapters start with a quote from either Mark Jenkins, Rui Miguel or Rumi, this quote relates to the content of each chapter and is an invitation to find out why this quote is the one which has been specifically chosen.
This memoir starts in a place of sadness and grief, over the impending loss of a lover and friend, but also the companionship of a surprise message from a reviewer of her books and a phone call which would change the course of her life. Through the development of a close friendship with this reviewer over a year, Lynda decided that she wanted to meet the person behind the voice, this would mean travelling halfway across the world to India, so to make an adventure out of it Lynda decided to sell or give away everything that wouldn’t fit into a wheeled suitcase and a rucksack and buy a one way ticket to travel the world.
It is this journey where Lynda discovers a love for the cities she visits and the people she meets along the way to her final destination, but where this will be is a mystery to Lynda, from Mexico toTurkey via France, India, Israel and Malaysia on the search for love, but will it be with the one person she wants it from, or will it be from the people she meets on the way there.
The book makes this feel like a shared experience which enriches your view of the world and makes you want to visit the same places yourself one day, with rich descriptions accompanied by beautiful photographs it is a treat to read.
This is a story of chances taken, memories made and experiences all linked together through love and happiness, even where there is sadness, the happiness to which it can lead is always shown as well. A beautiful read which shows that it is never too late to go on an adventure.

I stumbled across Cafe Confidential: an unfiltered and intimate memoir and couldn’t pass it up. I haven’t read many memoirs in the past but I’ve never been disappointed by those that I have read so I figured I couldn’t go wrong. I love Lynda Filler’s style of writing and was really intrigued by her story. I did coincidentally learn that she has another memoir, Love, The Beat Goes On and my interest is definitely sparked. Cafe Confidential is a little under two hundred pages long and a fast 5 star read. I never in a million years could imagine living my life in such an exciting carefree way as the author! Can you imagine if we all set out to find our truths in such a way? Great read, highly recommend.

This was an inspiring and empowering read, and it really is a unfiltered and intimate memoir by author Lynda Filler. Honestly written, you can feel Lynda’s personal connection to the story and her emotions really come through in her narrative, making this a totally immersive and engaging read. A heartwarming and positive memoir of a very brave and adventurous lady, who literally sold everything and bought a one way ticket around the world. Knowing there was no turning back she looked forward and took on the world. I love the title of this memoir, ‘Café Confidential’, that alone had me hooked and then as Lynda shared her adventures and her secrets with us, the reader, I was gripped. I felt as though I was there with her, seeing, smelling, touching, tasting, and feeling what she did as she traveled to France, India, Israel, Malaysia, and Turkey. Lynda’s aim was to, “Perhaps I can convince you that it’s never too late to follow your dreams”, and she has definitely done that for me. The added coloured photos dotted throughout the book really added to the whole experience for me as I could picture where she was and along with her wonderfully detailed narrative the book just flowed. This memoir strayed with me long after I had finished reading it and I have gone back and read particular parts again.

This was a really interesting read for me and not the type of book I normally read but I really enjoyed it.
This books is the authors memoir about her adventures throughout the world and the people she meets along the way. It was amazing to read of her brave journey, leaving everything behind her for this once in a lifetime experience. It was really inspiring as for some people they would never be able to do that.
The way the author writes is beautiful describing all the places and people she meets makes you feel like you are on the journey with her. And the pictures that are in the book are a nice touch.

Is it ok to want to grow up to be Lynda Filler? To be able to just take the leap and live life. Really live. With mistakes and missteps and beauty and ashes… every piece makes us who we are. And Filler fills each page with such emotion and inspiration it left me breathlessly captivated. My thanks to this author for yet another amazing addition to my library. I cannot recommend this highly enough. This deserves far more than five stars.

Cafe Confidential: an unfiltered and intimate memoir is not something I would normally read. It is the first I have read by Lynda Filler, but it sounded interesting. It is written in an auto biographical format, in recent years (she talks about Covid toward the end). The author tells her story of how she sold everything and travelled the world. She tells us of the events leading up to it, as well as people she meets along the way. That alone is what pulled me in. The intrigue to read what would make someone sell everything and live out of a suitcase while travelling the middle east. Where did she go, what did she see, who did she meet. While I don’t know most of the places, it was fascinating to read this non-fiction story. She talks about her other books within this memoir, and I want to try one to see how it is. Her writing style is good. It draws you in and make you want to learn about this complete stranger. She is brutally honest and holds nothing back. She isn’t a famous icon, so who cares? Right? Wrong. Its such an interesting story and she shares pictures and facts about people she meets and relationships. There is a lot of insight and makes you reconsider your own life. It is a great story and I recommend it, even if you don’t normally read this sort of book. I don’t, but I’m glad I did.

This book was interesting to me. Being it was a memoir, I was not sure what to have expected. This book is not my first book but Lynda Filler but I really enjoyed the adventure. The details are amazing as I could see exactly what she was describing. The cities are beautiful. To be honest, I have often thought about selling everything and traveling around the world. I did follow the character on her journey. If you are looking for an adventure without leaving your home this book is for you. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Cafe Confidential: An unfiltered and intimate memoir by Lynda Filler is an emotional and engaging book that is so vivid and easy to imagine. This is completely different from everything I have read previously by this author and it was lovely to be taken through her journey in such a wonderful way. The whole book has been written in a manner that makes it all seem so exotic and exciting while still also being completely relatable despite me not having had the same experiences. I loved going on this journey with the author, it has really made me feel more connected to her than I though possible. This is a great book and one I thoroughly enjoyed.

I have been sitting with this book and my thoughts for three days now. Three days ago I sat down with a memoir that I was optimistic I’d enjoy because it was by one of my one-click fav authors. Three days ago this woman’s story sucked me in and took me on a whirlwind adventure with her and through her brain. I was impacted by reading this book in a way I didn’t know I needed. It’s needless to say this book completely exceeded my expectations.
I wish I could do what Lynda Filler has done, a whole eat, pray, love approach with quite a bit more flair and pizzaz and style in my opinion, but she grabbed her fate and future by the balls and went for it to find and feel her dreams. What an amazing feat to accomplish for sure, but then she wrote a book about it. Yall, I loved this more than I can say. It was raw, sassy, sexy, funny, and inspirational. What more could you want? I will for sure have a paperback copy of this on my bookshelf some day. I hope we will get more novels like such from Ms. Filler soon!

I found this book extremely enjoyable but for so many reasons. From traveling to the open possibilities of where it can lead us. I needed this book because I found the way the author wrote it to be rather refreshing, open-ended and to what possibilities as to what it would be as the world awaits you. I loved how we traveled with the author but it also showed women the power of not only love but self-love and where it leads you. This book was fun, exciting and refreshing with enriching lessons that we should hold near and dear to our hearts. Very nicely written!

CAFE CONFIDENTIAL: An unfiltered and intimate memoir by Lynda Filler is a non fiction adventure story. It is a story of the journey of our author who sold up and ventured into the unknown. It is a step by step look at her life going from place to place with no destination in mind but with only the thought of feeding her mind, body and soul. I was immersed in the story and it was over before I knew it, but it left an impression on me.

5 ++++++++ Stars
I finished this memoir 3 days ago…I can sincerely say it has not left my mind since completing it. I have been trying with all I have to figure out how to put words together to write a review for it. I will start by saying that without any doubt this is not just my favorite book of 2020 but is absolutely one of my top 5 of all time.
It all started Friday when I knew I had a few minutes and it was the next book on my kindle to read, I thought ok I’ll pick it up and start it and then planned to dive back in that evening when I was done with my day. Well, that plan went by the wayside 1 page in…
I was so engrossed in this authors story that when I say I read it in a little under an hour and a half I mean i didn’t walk or move without reading it…The world around me completely disappeared and I found myself seated next to this author experiencing the adventure she was taking me on. I am in awe….I was before reading this completely invested in the Code Raven series, which by the way I will be reading with a whole new appreciation when scenes include Luke, my favorite character, but after reading this and being invited inside the life of this amazing author im completely invested now in anything and everything this author writes.
There are many places throughout this book that I have bookmarked, many many words to live by that this author shared with us. I came away from this truly thinking about my life and how I live it. Happily married for 39 years and we still have many dreams to fulfill, this author has made all of that seem possible for us.
I loved Reading this story, and already want to read it again, but first I have more that I need to go one click by this author!

CAFE CONFIDENTIAL: An Unfiltered and Intimate Memoir by Lynda Filler is such an interesting and entirely inspiring story. I love to travel, but I really don’t think I could have done what Lynda did- sell up everything, and then jump on a plane with little more than a pocket full of one way tickets. That was really brave, and so adventurous. This story takes us along on her travels, a real journey of discovery- whilst also sending a message that it’s never too late to follow your dreams. With photographs sprinkled throughout, they really help to enrich the story. Ms. Fillers writing never fails to keep me captivated- and her memoir did all that and then some! Inspiring!

I loved reading the story CAFE CONFIDENTIAL: An unfiltered and intimate memoir by Lynda Filler. It is a book that had me hooked from the beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until I was finished. It’s a memoir by the author and she does an amazing job of making you feel her emotions and seeing her journey. From the way that she describes the many places that she has been to the people she has met; she has a way of making her journey come alive. I found the book inspirational and the author a truly gifted writer. I also enjoyed the photographs that are included. They take you along to faraway places and capture the beauty of each location. I enjoyed the information regarding not only the sites and places that she visits but also the people as well. Don’t miss out on taking an amazing journey that will touch your heart and soul. I highly recommend reading it.

I enjoyed this book. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites by her. This is a well developed story that the author’s attention to details made me feel as if I was right there in each of the cities. I felt as though I was traveling right along with the character. I had no problems connecting with the characters as they brought the story and each city to life. This story is about someone selling everything they have to travel around in search of something, maybe romance or maybe themselves. What is found, you will have to read this book to find out. I highly recommend reading this story. It is engaging and fast paced, you won’t regret picking it up.

In 2018 three things happened that changed my life. First, I met a book critic from New Delhi on Goodreads, and we became very good friends. That same summer I spent a very long night on a flight to Paris and chatted the entire way with a young Muslim man who was on his way to Amman, Jordan for a wedding. And third, both things opened my mind to a world I’d never experienced so I made a decision to liquidate my life in Mexico and travel. I bought a series of one-way airline tickets with no return destination. Café Confidential is the story of my adventures and why I’m living in Istanbul today.
Lynda is a Canadian born baby boomer brought up in a military household. In early 2000’s she moved to Mexico and worked on magnificent resorts. In early 2019, Lynda decided to sell her worldly possessions, pack one suitcase, take her computer in her backpack and see the world. After months traveling in Europe, the Middle East, India and Malaysia, she decided to put down temporary roots in Istanbul, Turkey! World politics aligned and Lynda found plots, mystery and romance in this stunning city once known as Constantinople. The Istanbul Conspiracy is book 7 in her Code Raven series. and she is currently working on Book 8.
Her work has received awards for both Contemporary Suspense and Fiction.
When she’s not writing, you can find her walking through the parks along the Bosphorus Strait, photographing street art and the Istanbul cats, reading, listening to music, and overindulging in chocolates from the Spice Bazaar. She is currently studying Turkish but is exceedingly grateful for Google Translate!
