I really wish this book was longer! I very much enjoyed reading about Aia and Nen. Being that the story was set in ancient Japan, had magical elements and geishas made it that much more interesting to me. Aia’s sister Yui is a geisha but Aia wasn’t a full blown geisha yet and it seemed like she was just kind of in limbo with her life. A chance meeting with Nen, a swordsman changes her perspective. I loved watching Nen and Aia’s relationship grow, as well as the dangerous and magical journey they embark on to see the world. I would definitely recommend this book!

Great paranormal romance, unique, nothing I have read before. I really liked the point of view alternating back and forth between Cathy and Daedriel. They are a sweet couple, Cathy really seems like a wonderful woman and this story just made me feel joy that she gets someone good like Daedriel, she deserves all the good, especially with how she helps Victor and his wife. Watching this couple fight off the dark angel agenda, first with Rask is an adventure, there are so many elements I haven’t seen before, everything blue when it comes to Daedriel, a black tourmaline that has been stolen and a dark angel agenda. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Quick and nice read. I was sad this book wasn’t longer, and the ending seemed rushed but I was pleased with the ending, and happy with the story. My heart absolutely broke for Desmond, the way his family treated him was absolutely unacceptable. It really sucks that just because he is a doctor he should be able to cure anyone and everyone. Emily is a cool girl, her and Doctor D. are perfect for each other, she is exactly what he needs in his life to combat all the whispers and the hurt from his family. I really enjoyed their journey to get where they are at the end and look forward to more doctors to come.

Excellent period novel! I truly loved this story and fell in love with the characters right away! Penny is amazing, they life she has to live day to day with the Conrads and still hoping for better one day. The Conrad family were terrible, treating Penny like family but still wanting her to “know her place”. I think maybe the mother, Catherine, was okay but was influenced a lot by her husband and society. Rose is the WORST!! She is the definition of a terrible, manipulative and selfish person. When Falcon and Penny got together, I finally had hope for a better future for Penny, watching their love grow was so sweet. I feel like Falcon truly did love her with everything he had, and when it came down to denying her or face possible trouble, it was no surprise how it turns out. Falcon will fight for his love for Penny and for them to be together no matter what the law says or how people view their relationship. The ending was my favorite part and awesome! It really showed the selfish nature of Rose and Penny is able to speak her mind.

Journeys Through Collection: Volumes 1-3 by James Talisman – Review by Carrie Reed

Journeys Through Collection: Volume 1-3Journeys Through Collection: Volume 1-3 by James Talisman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars!

This is not my usual genre but sometimes I really just love a good sci-fi read. There are rare times when an author can keep me entertained and interested and this series does just that.

This first book is so complex with many different characters and worlds intermingling, but it all works, and comes together nicely while still being able to follow along easily. The storyline was gripping and very fun to get into, and I love a book that makes me feel as if I am living in the same time, or space etc. The action, suspense and adventure kept me enthralled waiting to see what would happen next to each individual character. I really enjoyed the beginning that had a layout of all the different worlds, the characters we would meet from those different worlds and how they were connected to the other characters. It helped me put a lot together in my own mind. I was impressed with how easy it was to follow along with each journey because at the start of a new story, the world in which we were being transported to was announced.

Time travel is always a fun topic and I became very immersed in the story of 3 friends, Matt, Julia and Dan, on a treasure hunt you could say. The different cities, places and worlds they travel to, are nicely written and it feels as if I were along for the ride myself. The story is just so interesting and packed full, I was sometimes confused but was easily able to jump right back in. I love how each location is mentioned before going into the next part of the story, it really helped me keep up with what was happening, and the list in the beginning showing all the characters and what world they are from was really nice.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Such as sweet book! Noah seems like a wonderful man, it sucked to see that his land was taken away by his father unless he got married. On the other hand it was a great idea to give him his land after he gets married, it was a way for his dad to ensure a happy future for his child. Mary, such a sweetheart, I was so sad to see how she was treated by her father, and how selfless she was. When her and Noah finally get to meet my heart broke along with his learning how Mary grew up. They are super sweet together and it was really nice to see a religious element in their relationship. I can’t wait to see which brother is up next!

Great sports/firefighter romance. Leslie is such a strong and independent woman, I really loved her from beginning to end. Trevor is the one man that came into her life and was able to smooth our her rough edges. I hate that she had to endure so much to do a job she loved, a “man’s job” but she excelled, because women can be firefighters! I really enjoyed watching Leslie and Trevor’s relationship grow, Trevor’s love and dedication to their relationship is so sweet and watching him do anything and everything to keep them together makes me swoon. It is always nice when there is an epilogue and the hint at the next book looks like more drama and fun on the way.

Excellent book! I was so engrossed in this story and absolutely did not want it to end! I really hope there will be more added onto this book soon, I really want to see what happens with April and Thomas in their future. I really liked reading about this world they stumble upon and the quick friendship they formed, even with an age gap. Everything was so vividly explained and described that it was really easy to picture what this world looked like. Dorito leaves was a funny way to describe the taste of the food, and calling whatever creature they met Flick. This was a really fun read, and I can’t wait to check out more by this author.

WOW! This author is truly amazing! I have never read about a character with so much description as I did with this book and with the character of Sullivan. This author had me hating Sullivan so much, I wanted to put the book down and plot the demise of a fictional character for the first time ever! The twist in this book had my jaw dropped and just all around amazed at the flow of the story. Lydia and Cam, I love them, they seem perfect for each other. At one point I was nervous I was going to be hating Lydia, but she was strong and pulled through! I highly recommend this read, it has romance, action, drama, and adventure, I seriously enjoyed this book and can’t wait to check out more by this author!

The information in this book is great. The amount of tips and tricks is amazing, and what I think would be really helpful if I were to sell at a con. It is nice to see authors helping other authors get off their feet. I didn’t know there were different types of “cons”, I just assumed comic con was the only one. The information in this book is also nice for me as a reader to know, being respectful to the authors is a given, but knowing the amount of work that goes into set up, and getting everything together really makes me want to start watching out for any troublesome con goers and to show the respect and love the authors that they deserve. I also feel like this book shows me how most authors should be, in how friendly and engaging and polite they are to perspective fans and buyers, I don’t want to purchase or support and author that has no interest in giving me the time of day, even just a polite smile. I would highly recommend this book to any new book seller looking to start out at cons, I believe all the tools in this book will set you up for success.

WOW!!! Such an amazing read! This is not a book I would normally pick up to read, but as soon as I started reading I could not stop! The adventure of Anna going to Berlin to discover the history within her family is just one amazing event after the next. I was saddened and also happy with Anna’s relationship with Fredrick, I guess the traditions and values that get passed down through each generation are hard to let go of. Her adventures are so fantastical, and that she gets to meet all of these different people along the way, and read of her grandmother’s story and what she endured in her life is beautiful. I was happy to see her find that connection to her family, and be able to give her grandfather the information on her grandmother that they were both wondering about. That time period was a terrible time for the world, so also reading about how she lived through that time period was very moving and very haunting. I can’t say enough good things about this book, I wish I could erase it all from my mind and re read it all over again for the first time. I highly recommend this book to anyone, no matter what genre you like.

I did not read the first 2 books in the series but, I would definitely recommend reading them to get some background on what is going on. I can say I still enjoyed this book. I love to see dragon shifters, because most of the time it’s wolves or bears. Delta and Jax are lovely together, I really enjoyed watching Jax toy with the emotion that Delta couldn’t be his soulmate because she is a shaman, but his reoccurring dreams featuring her, and a chance meeting while saving her from a sorceress cements the reality that they are destined to be together. They work together to defeat the most powerful vampire and along the way the love between them sparks. Their romance is steamy and sweet. I look forward to seeing more of them.

This book to me, is the perfect way to explain blindness or visual impairments. The author gives tests or activities you can try at home to get a small taste of what it is like for someone with a visual impairment. I liked the info on Braille, I am happy that there was an alphabet made for the visually impaired to “read” it is a very cleaver system. I am also very happy to see that there have been many changes in the world to adapt to those who are impaired visually to be able to live out their everyday lives with some “normalcy”. This book really made me think about how I view things in my life and what I take for granted.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars!

This is not my usual genre, most of the time I don’t really put too much credence into thoughts like this, but throughout this whole book I really starting seeing things in a new light. I am officially on board to finding my magic! There are so many different ways to finding the magic within yourself and implementing it in your everyday life. What really stuck out to me was, “Do one thing each day that makes you happy.” and “That’s how magic works: dream it up, then work towards it.” Both are very simple and easy tasks that I can handle and make work for me in my life. One thing that really opened my eyes was the story of the ladybug stuck in the spider web. I would have never thought of the “synchronicity” of the situation like the author did and it really made me start to think about the little signals or signs I receive in my life. I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend giving it a read, it will seriously change your outlook on creating magic in your life.

King Bastard (A Dark Sparrow Novel Book 6) by India Kells – Review by Carrie Reed

King Bastard (Dark Sparrow, #6)King Bastard by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars!

Excellent ending to the Dark Sparrow series. I was happy to finally get to see what was going on with Lazarus and to see if he would get his own happily ever after. As with the first five books in the series, this author really has a way with getting you hooked. Sasha is such a strong and independent woman, and she seems like just the right type of woman that Lazarus would need by his side. The trauma she has to go through while being held captive and then fighting Jamison alongside everyone else makes her truly awesome to me. Lazarus, like all his brothers before, acts like Sasha needs protected and can’t defend herself, and I know it is all for fear of losing her, but we know she is a total baddie and could handle anything that is thrown at her. I wish the ending was a little more dramatic, but I was very satisfied especially with the epilogue.

This book is sweet, the story is a great lesson and the art is super cute. I really liked all the puns and this one line stuck out to me the most, “Priscida, you are great. Go be great today” I feel that is a very nice thing for anyone to say to themselves before starting their day. It is nice to get that extra motivation even if it comes from yourself. The lesson here is be great, love more and persevere. Great read for parents and children.

Absolutely perfect! The art is beautifully done and the story is everything I could want for Christmas. This is the perfect way to tell children that there is no “real” Santa Claus, but reminding them that the magic of Santa Claus is real. I really liked the author points out that there will always be a Santa Claus as long as children believe. Children believing in Santa and even adults make the Christmas season all that much more magical. This is really the perfect Christmas book for children, I highly recommend.

Excellent read! This is the fourth book in the series and it may have been the best one yet. In this book there is more drama and involvement from the brother’s evil mothers. Watching Vanessa grow into her role in the underworld, juggle her 3 men and trying to complete silly tasks for their mothers is a wild ride. She handles herself nicely, she even preforms a hero act that comes back to bite her but, that just proves time and again why she has snagged the hearts and protection of the three most powerful Gods. In the end she is promoted and I was ecstatic to get a prologue on how they were all enjoying their new lives. This series was a fantastic, fun, romantic, dramatic ride and I enjoyed every minute. I can’t wait to see what comes next from this author!

Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship (The Perfect Pairings Series Book 1)Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship by Parker Fairchild
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 stars!

I love Christmas and romance so put the two together and its magical. Olivia’s sister Jane sounds like a real witch. I don’t understand how any sister can one, feel like they are better than their sister and two, steal away that sister’s boyfriend, it makes me so furious. I like how Olivia just said screw it and booked a cruise instead of spending the holiday with her sister and seeing her ex, awkward. The way she meets Jace is so crazy, how did a man that she wrote on paper become real. I felt like their relationship moved too fast in a short amount of time, but that could also be “Santa” working his “Christmas magic” they seem perfect for each other, and I really like seeing Jace in love with Olivia while caring nothing about Jane. The pace of this book is nice and steady. The twist on what happens to Jane is nice, and the issue between Jace and Olivia is fun to watch. I really enjoyed reading this couple’s story.

I LOVE this author! Every book I have read so far has been just amazing and this book is no different. The cover is stunning and the writing is on point. In this paranormal world we have Errapel who is a hare shifter and Acheron is a vulture shifter and he is forbidden to take a mate. But fate just so happens to pair the two up. It is so sweet that Errapel has no qualms about who his mate is and readily accepts him and their bond, but getting Acheron on board and changing the way things are done in their world is a little tricky. I enjoyed watching these two get closer and closer until finally all my dreams come true. This book had a little more romance than her last series and I am loving it! This author is so talented in her writing, the characters and story are so cleaver and nicely descried and thought out. I will always look forward to more, and can’t wait to see what comes next!

This book may be a short and quick read, but it immediately had me hooked. Leann seems like a real sweetheart and tough too. She has been through a lot when it comes to men but she finally meets a good one. Len is cop, I like that, and it is sweet that he falls in love with Leann so fast and has such a protective nature over her. I am happy to see that she finally feels safe. You can see the love they have for each other when Leann is in danger from armed bank robbers. The way she got out of the situation is something I think everyone should keep in mind, in the right situation the way she reacted was pretty genius. I really enjoyed this short and sweet read.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

As an adult I really enjoyed this children’s book. The story of the whales in distress and the other sea animals signaling for help and working together was heartwarming. It was sweet that every whale had their own name. Then end is nice for both children and adults, it breaks down what each term means, and then give a brief description of that term. I didn’t know what a Fluke was, now I do and although it seems like something I may never use, it is nice knowledge to have, it is something I won’t forget. Then the book goes into describing the different sea animals and other sea terms such as the coral reef, mangroves, Whitetip shark etc. It is nice to see that some countries are trying to do their part in keeping things like mangroves alive and thriving. It is also sad to learn of the Virus that effects marine mammals, and honestly I had no idea it even existed. Overall would recommend for any family to read together, this book has a wealth of knowledge and is very easy and fun to read.

This was a fun read. I really like the mythical story of Elvan princess, mermaids, shifters and magic. In this story it is Serena’s turn as a mage to watch over the young princess for a time, and to keep her safe. The romance between her and Peder is sweet. I really enjoyed watching as she was shy with her feelings around him at first and he was always watching her from afar to Peder assisting in keeping Ameria and her safe. The clash of the two different worlds had me fearing for the future of their relationship but I am holding out hope that this is not the last we see of this couple and the next book will have their continuation. Definitely recommended read for any paranormal, mythical creature lover.

I did not read the first books in the series, I didn’t feel as if I missed out on too much information, but after reading this book, I definitely want to go back and read the previous books. This book captured me immediately, Allie is such a strong and independent woman and watching her interactions with Nick is very sweet. It’s the same old thing, she doesn’t think he could ever fully be committed to her, he is so in love with her its ridiculous, but the communication on that front is none. I couldn’t get enough! It seems like after Allie helps Nick with saving the women she wants more of that face paced life, with action and danger, and I really look forward to seeing if she gets to pursue that. Allie and Nick are a great couple, I love the Irish theme thrown in and the romantic moments, the action, the drama, the danger, a perfect and quick read.

This is not my typical genre, but the story is so awesome it will pull anyone in. The world we are taken to is magical, and here we see romance, action, shifters, adventure, really all you could want in a story. I really enjoyed watching Kailen and his journey. He was pretty broken after the incident with Nadrine, and becoming the last in his family line, I didn’t think he would recover, but the heart has a way of healing when you least expect it. I felt selfish for a minute and really didn’t want Kailen to open his heart to anyone else. At first Kailen and Talaith didn’t feel right to me but I was won over and was excited to see their pairing, with all they go through leading up to their relationship as well as fighting along side each other for the Titanians. I highly recommend this book and would definitely recommend reading them in order as you will want to get to know some of the characters from previous books.

Now bless Dylan’s heart, here is he making himself sound so much older than Kyra, but 10 years is nothing! I was rooting for them the whole book, Jake seemed like a douche bag from the start and throughout the story, that was confirmed. I wish Kyra would have just chosen Dylan from the beginning, it seems like he was a back up plan to me, but he loves her so much so I couldn’t be mad that he finally got the woman of his dreams.

I have never wanted a series to go on and on like I do this one. The Bow is the 3rd book in the Her Three Immortals series and you will need to read them all in order. I love a reverse harem so much and in this one, Grey, Raef and Aroz/Bow are just perfect! It seems that Vanessa has a path that was predestined, she is to complete tasks in order to fulfill a prophecy. All of the God’s mothers are just terrible, and I can’t wait to see all of them knocked down not a couple pegs but all pegs! I love all of the men for always looking out for and protecting Vanessa the best way they can, and it is so nice to see Grey not as grouchy anymore. I did think Aroz wasn’t going to make it with Vanessa, but he did change especially when Bow was introduced. I can’t wait for the next book to continue Vanessa and her Gods and their next adventure!

I love this follow up to Professor Valentine. Here we see Cassie and Diego still together but with new challenges to face. Diego has to win over Cassie’s parents because of the wide age gap and they both suffer challenges with this as well. Cassie hating everyone always bringing up their age difference and Diego only seeing how he could hold Cassie back because of it. Also we meet Diego’s ex wife again and this time she is trying to make things difficult for Diego and putting him in a stressful position when all he wants to do is move forward with Cassie. I loved all the drama involved, at one point I thought they were going to break up. I also really felt for Diego, I hated that he was so insecure at times even though we can see Cassie loves him so much. I really liked this book and look forward to more from this author.

If you are looking for something short and steamy, a nice quick read, this is the one. There are two sexy reads in one, Tequila Sunset & Beneath the Sheets. The first book Cassie finally lands her best friend’s dad after suffering from a bad recent break up. It does check off the fantasy of being with a younger daddy. The only thing that kind of threw me off was the dialogue between them, at times I thought Cassie was a little too much, but that didn’t distract from the sexiness that was happening with them. In the second book is more on the sweet side to me, yes it is also short and steamy, but this one has friends that have reconnected after being apart for awhile. I’m happy Sarah found what she was looking for, it seems she has always loved Alex, and it looks like Alex may feel the same. I would definitely recommend this book for any romance lover who is looking for a quicky.
