The Tears of Boabdil by Neil MacDonald – Review by Carrie Reed

The Tears of BoabdilThe Tears of Boabdil by Neil MacDonald
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

At first I was very confused with the way the story was laid out, but quickly came to realize that one side was reality and the other side was all in Vince’s mind. I liked the idea of Zami, or Vince, being romantically involved with Ayesha. But he has lost favor with her brothers when the suspect him of being a spy. It was hard for me going back and forth between the two different stories but the writing style had me paying attention and getting really involved. I really enjoyed reading about the author’s perspective of the Islamic faith. This book was very intriguing and interesting to read. I still don’t know where we stand on the ending but I am satisfied.

I enjoyed this short and sweet book. I didn’t know if this story was going to work out seeing as how short it was, but the author managed to get in all the information we needed to understand the story. Jess got on my ever loving nerve with the way she acted, but when explained why, I can understand and sympathize with her. It is sweet that she did in fact fall in love with him at first sight but acts like he is nothing but a lowly worker on the ranch. Tuck, I think handled her quite nicely by giving all the nastiness she threw at him, right back to her. I was sad that it had to end and we didn’t to see Tuck go to Vegas for the finals but at least we know he is on his way.

I really enjoyed this re telling of Beauty and the Beast. The characters were so easy to fall in love with and the story was very well done. Unless I just wasn’t paying good enough attention, I did not see it coming when we find out who the fairy is that cursed Sir Griffin, but I liked how she put him to a test to see if he really had changed or not. The character of Miss Amaranth really got on my nerves, I understand her role and she was very well and annoyingly written. I could tell that Sir Griffin was no in the least bit interested in her and was always looking for Rose. At one point in the beginning I was scared he was going to fall in love with Rose’s sister Lily instead. I really loved this story and wish it didn’t have to end, I can’t wait to see what Byrd Nash has in store next!

It is a bit dark, but the story had me captivated, I could not put the book down.
What a fun read, and fun in the sense that the mystery, story and characters were so detailed. Gabriel and his mother’s relationship seems weird to me, and when Gabriel tries to discover why the children at the orphanage were going missing, she gets upset with all the questions. It is interesting to watch the inner turmoil in Gabriel as he wrestles with his love for his mother and his wife Consuela. The twists and turns throughout will keep you engaged and wanting more. I am very please with this book and will now be looking into more books by this author.

Bound by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Series Book 2) by Amy McKinley – Review by Carrie Reed

Bound by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops, #2)Bound by Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Excellent! I was hooked on this book just as much as the first one. This book can be read as a standalone but I would highly recommend reading them in order, as it gives some history on the other characters. I was excited to see this book was about Jaxon. I liked the connection of Jaxon standing in for the current chief of police who happens to be Kaylas father. My heart broke for poor Kayla having to deal with an abusive boyfriend, and it seems he has no problem in taking it to the extreme of trying to kill her. I swooned when Jaxon would stop at nothing to help Kayla and make sure she stayed safe, I love second chance at love. All of the suspense, drama and romance really made for an awesome story. Amy McKinley is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors with the way she can tell a story, I was kept on the edge waiting to see what was going to happen next and was blown out of water with the twists and turns I didn’t see coming. Who is up next!?

Short and sexy. If you are looking for a quick romantic pick me up, this is the one. Ace and Ella are the cutest! I love the way he went after her and stopped at nothing until he had a chance. Ella is very hesitant but I love that she takes a chance on love and with Ace. With a whole bunch of misunderstandings and miscommunication my frustration level with them was at a high. They are perfect together, and when the book ended I wanted more, more of Ace and Ella and more of Ace’s friend group. As always from this author, perfect.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

To say that I am addicted to this series is an understatement! This is my favorite book from the series so far. Meeting Oren and Teivel in the previous books, had me dying for a book for them and I was so excited to see their journey together. Teivel is an ass just like described, but you can definitely see the love he has for Oren. At first I didn’t think they were going to work with Teivel’s former companion Jaru hanging around and getting into trouble but they seem to make it work and they are happy. The introduction to the baby dragon is so sweet and the way they rallied together with the rest of their “family” to help eliminate the threat to the baby and themselves is so sweet. In the back of my mind I still want Teivel and Oren to be alone, I am hoping Jaru can find a life for himself and not be so dependent on the both of them. I CAN NOT wait until the next book, Larkspur sounds like a fantastically fun character and I can’t wait to see what happens. Naomi Valkyrie is quickly becoming one of my top favorite authors with this series alone!

What a fun and weird read! The sweet woman that is the main character, is living in a time with a virus outbreak. There are now humans and the hungries. Our female main character seems to be a hungry but still has most of her humanity left, she wants to date, she wants to be warm. The main joy she gets is from seeing the orange tabby cat that comes near her apartment. I am quite sad the book had to end, I was looking forward to see if anything came of her meeting the human man who owns that orange tabby cat. Reading about what she would do day to day and her thoughts was very intriguing. I look forward to more from this author.

I was engrossed. I love that these kids were little detectives trying to find their missing fundraiser money. I only wish I could have had that much fun and excitement as a kid. They thought their secret clubhouse and group were on the down low but the parents already knew, and watching the kids and the parents all work together to make sure Janet was safe is nice. Working together they have to stop the strange men who come to blackmail Janet to get her mom to sell black market medicines. I really enjoyed this story and read it all in one sitting, it was exciting, very well detailed and well written. I look forward to more from this author.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Such a fun read. I was immediately sucked into this story, with all the magical beings and action involved. The part about Maya being the destined mate for Soren was so sweet and watching their relationship unfold was also very sweet. Maya is a human and Soren is of the Titanian race, but Maya is not only human. Soren and his friends find out what Maya is truly capable of and the powers she receives and it is nice to see she is fitting in and grasping her new life. Their relationship starts of kind of iffy, due to Soren following the laws of his people, and for a minute I didn’t think Maya was going to accept their relationship but, they worked through it and came out stronger. I loved this couple and watching them go on an adventure to figure out who and which race was trying to destroy humans and other beings. It might be a long shot but for some reason I feel like Soren’s uncle Gustaf has something to do with it, he seems kind of shady. I loved all the characters in this book, each was very well written in and interesting to get to know. I hope there is another book, I can’t wait to see what is in store for these friends next.

Stormy’s Thunder (Satan’s Devils MC Utah #2) by Manda Mellett – Review by Carrie Reed

Stormy's Thunder (Satan's Devils MC Utah #2)Stormy’s Thunder by Manda Mellett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars!

As always I can’t give anything less than 5 stars! Manda Mellett continues to amaze me with her writing and story telling. The opening of this book had me sucked in straight away, at first I was confused why Swift was narrating, when she started describing the way they found Stormy my heart clinched. Although I really wasn’t a fan of Stormy from his actions in the previous books, I never wanted him to be introduced to his own story like that. My mind was changed about Stormy as I read on. I can understand and sympathize with him, the way he grew up and what he has faced throughout his life, really shows there is more behind the mess up of a club member he was. Introduce Cat, the way her and Stormy meet is heartbreaking. I could quickly tell that Cat was going to be good for him, she was going to change him for the better. They are so sweet together and I was ecstatic to see Stormy finally happy, in a good place and with his club. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

NICE! I enjoyed this book so much, the story line was fantastic and the characters were perfect and easy to fall in love with. Riley, this poor girl has been through so much, with her parents, her past and now her present with someone is terrorizing her. I am so thankful she meets Xander and he can’t seem to stay away. On the other hand Xander is going through a recent break up and I like the fact that when he heard Riley, he just knew she was the one for him was so sweet. There was so much going on holding my attention, with trying to figure out who was trying to hurt Riley and then who had sabotaged Xander’s last mission. I was kind of expecting, but still completely surprised to find out who the killer was chasing after Riley. The fact that the killer was following along with a book that Riley was reading made the story that much more intense. I could not stop reading and now that Riley and Xander have their ending I can’t wait to see what comes next!

Crave (Clark Family Series Book 1)Crave by Evelyn Sola
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars!

Fantastic story! I loved everything about this book, the characters, the story line and especially all the drama and romance! Sandy and Jacob’s relationship is the cutest and sweetest, I love how they interact with each other and the love they show. I love that this is an interracial love story, I pictured Sandy as a beautiful Haitian woman and the way she is described, she deserves only the best when it comes to love. All of the characters that make her doubt herself and her relationship with Jake really started to make me mad, Carol, from Jake’s work, the hostess at the restaurant and even her ex boyfriend, the points they made or the things they said were uncalled for and obnoxious. Her ex boyfriend, it is easy to see he just said the things he did because he was jealous that she moved on without him. I was so happy to see Jake squash all her doubts and repeatedly show and tell her that he loved her the most. This couple is just fantastic and I really look forward to see what comes next, maybe Jake’s baby brother.

The Graceful Ghost by Eleanor Dixon – Review by Carrie Reed

The Graceful GhostThe Graceful Ghost by Eleanor Dixon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars!

Nice short and sweet read perfect for young girls or any age really. I was sad for poor Lauren, she seemed to be at war with herself. She loves dance but feels she shouldn’t be doing it anymore as a punishment to herself. On one hand she is mad at her dad for leaving, on the other she thinks it’s her fault for his accident. She also seems older than her years for wrestling with her feelings of staying in the dance school or leaving but wanting to do what is best for her mom, not herself. The character of Grace is great in helping Lauren realize her dreams and helping achieve them by stopping the bullying that is going on from another dancer who is jealous of the attention Lauren is receiving. I really enjoyed watching the sweet friendship of Lauren and Katie grow and, seeing the bully of the school, Allison, finally come to realize that the way she had been acting was only hurting herself in the end. This book has such sweet moments and nice lessons to be learned.

Such a fun retelling of Cinderella. This book was giving me Pride and Prejudice vibes and I was loving it. I like how two friends devised the plan to trick everyone to see how they would treat each of them based on their status. Melinda however was not too sure about the identities of each man. Melinda is smart, independent and a little on the rebellious side. It’s sad to see she has to suffer with her cousins and Aunt who treat her like Cinderella was treated, but she found ways to get around her orders. I like how Kaye, her childhood friend fell for her, and she thought she was falling in love with the poorer of the two men… Such a nice short and sweet story.

Daddy's Girl (Freshwater Book 3)Daddy’s Girl by Belinda Williams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars!

Loved it! I really enjoyed this book and all of the characters. The story was great, there was just enough drama to go along with the romance for Joel and Em. Em is a fantastic character, she is independent, smart, funny, beautiful and she totally deserves Joel. My heart broke for Joel, I can totally see why he thought he didn’t deserve anything good in his life, but agree with his friend and business partner Nate, that he is a fighter and deserves everything good that has come into his life if not to make up for his crappy childhood. Em is perfect in the way that she reacted to finding out about Joel, she was in shock and left with her father but told Joel she would talk to him the next morning once she could wrap her head around everything, Joel being broken took that another way and leaves. I hated her dad for even butting in, in the first place and the way he didn’t even try to listen to Joel’s side of the story. Their story is sweet and I am actually kind of upset there wasn’t more to end on, I was hoping for an epilogue of some sort but in the end still an excellent read, and worth it.

I COULD NOT PUT THIS DOWN! I am so happy the second book is out. I was addicted to the first book and the way it ended, I knew the second book would be even juicer and it was! This book, I would not recommend reading as a standalone, there is too much drama and background that needs to be known. WOW. Jordan and his mom Christina, I have no words for their brand of idiot. I can completely understand how Jordan was swayed by his mom’s words, thinking he would never lie to her, but what about the woman he supposedly loves, wouldn’t she never lie to him either? The way Tessa is treated by almost everybody is disgusting, I cried multiple times throughout this book with my heart just breaking for her, but she stayed strong in my opinion. I had a feeling I was going to love Jordan’s dad Eric, and I did. That man is a stand up guy, I’m so happy he intervened when he did to set Jordan and Christina straight. Christina really needed to be knocked down a million pegs. I really didn’t want this book to end, but knew it needed closure and I was very pleased with how it played out. Now my only hope is the next book will be about Lindy!

Moonlit Mirage (A Cook Islands Romance) AUDIO BOOK by Amy McKinley – Review by Carrie Reed

5 stars!

At first I wasn’t sure where this book was going, so I was kind of conflicted about how I would feel about it in the end. I was quickly sucked into the story and the characters lives. I was not so patiently waiting for the story to continue quickly so that I could find out what role each character was playing and what would happen. Nadia seems like such a sweetheart, I really like how she fell in love with Cade and couldn’t follow through with her mission, and still wanted to get a glimpse of him years later. The fact that Cade has a near death experience and still manages to remember the girl who saved him years prior proves in my mind, that they are meant to be. They both follow their gut when it comes to each other and knowing that they are forever. I really enjoyed the drama the unfolded when Cade’s sister notices Nadia and finding out the organization Nadia works for and why. I was sad to have this story end, I was wanting more but was satisfied with the ending.

What a fun paranormal romance read. I really enjoyed following along with Donovan and Marty as they meat Alice. The little misunderstandings between the two are perfect to give the story a little extra drama, but the main focus was getting the creek fixed. Seeing their relationship grow and the sacrifices they are willing to make together to save the town is sweet. Marty, Donovan’s familiar, is a nice bit of comic relief and I found it hilarious that he had a gas issue. I look forward to seeing what is in store next, hoping it is the story of Alice’s friend Megan.

Ah, I am in love with this series. This is the second book in the series, and I would highly suggest reading the books in order to get introductions to the characters and background on what is going on. I loved Delilah and Malakhi’s story but, I think I found a new love in Sheridan and Millicent. I wasn’t sure where this story was going to go, and when it is Millicent that is in trouble, I enjoyed watching Sheridan realize her feelings for her, and they weren’t just that of a one time fling. Meeting Sheridan’s mom and dad and seeing how they played a role was exciting, her dad seems like a good solid man so far, willing to help is daughter and her new found love. Her mom on the other hand, not so much. The twist with Miliicent, I did not see coming and it will be exciting to see how that changes her in the future. After this book, I really can’t wait to read Teivel & Oren’s story!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Short, sweet and to the point, I like it! I really enjoyed this story, the characters were easy to fall in love with and relate to. I didn’t like Lach from the beginning, he seemed like such a douche, and the way he kept bringing up being there for Fiona when her mother passed made me think he looked at that as the reason why Fiona should be with him over Connor. Connor is heartbroken that he has to leave Fiona to follow his mom, but he was young and really didn’t have a choice. I can understand Fiona went through a hard time and the only person she had with her was Lach but, it was kind of annoying that she held that over Connor for most of the story. She knew what he was dealing with in his life, knowing how he was treated by his father growing up but, that made the story more interesting. I can’t wait to see what comes next with this author.

Yes! I loved everything about this book. The only thing I didn’t like was that it ended! I really wanted to see more of Percy, William and Viola’s new life together! Period romance books are among my top favorites, this one did not disappoint me. I really loathed Viola’s family for the way they treated her and the thoughts they had towards her all because of a misunderstanding, something that didn’t happen as everyone thought they saw. I was so happy that Viola could find her happy, her love with Percy and William, it didn’t hurt that there was a little M/M thrown in as well. I very much look forward to reading more from this author.

Great holiday read, also very uplifting and hopeful. I really enjoyed the little bit of Christmas magic thrown in with the ultimate healer being God. It was sweet how Santa was playing an angel as to help this family through some hard times. Without giving anything away, there were plenty of sweet spots, scandalous moments, funny comments and hope throughout the family. With Joan and her 3 kids gathering together to fight for David’s survival and to beat his cancer is inspiring. A nice short and sweet story, it really gets you thinking and contemplating your own life.

Nice, quick, steamy holiday read. The characters were interesting, interesting enough that when the book was over, I wanted more of them. How Finley and Garrett meet, as strangers at a bar, and the come to find out that they are actually in the same social circle due to his work, is fun to watch when the drama unfolds. The men of the firehouse and Finley’s brothers are all protective of her which is sweet but, its annoying when she thinks she has finally found something that could go somewhere with Garrett. Their relationship and the draw they have to each other is sweet and I was satisfied with how it ended but, hope maybe someday there will be more with these characters.

I always love a good holiday themed read, and this one did it for me. Although short and sweet, it had everything I needed to fall in love with this book. The characters were well developed and I was quickly turning the pages to find out what happens with Archer and Ally and of course Glory. Their story is sweet, beautiful and their second chance at love and a life together had me excited. The drama involved with Archer being in the military and him leaving everything by behind gave the story that little extra kick. I really look forward to reading more from this author.

I LOVE a holiday romance. This book delivered in putting me in the Christmas spirit and giving me all sorts of feelings. I really love when the characters miscommunicate with each other, that may sound weird, but when I see the hurt caused by miscommunication my heart jumps a little because I know that everything will be okay in the end. Penelope and Artemis are beautiful together, I love them as a couple. Penelope did annoy me at times but overall, I understand why they were in the situation they were in. If they would have just talked everything out, things may have been different by now, but, being young and immature the first thing in your mind is to run, so that is what Penelope did. I was nervous for a minute when Artemis finds out about Max but knew deep down that everything would work out, it’s a holiday romance after all. I really enjoyed meeting all these characters, and quickly got lost in the story, I can’t wait to see what is next and would highly recommend this read.

I love a holiday themed read. This short story is worth the read, it is sweet, heartbreaking and will get you right into the Christmas spirit. It was heartbreaking to see the emotions Kinsley was going through knowing Brysen would not be back for Christmas. I really enjoyed how Brysen’s best friend and Kinsley’s friend Dina are also in a relationship and form this little quad of friends. It is nice that Kinsley had Dina, someone who can relate to what she is going through to help her through it all. I love that this book gives a glimpse of what anyone in a military relationship could go through, even though this probably only touches the surface of what they would endure being apart. I highly recommend this sweet book!

Wow! What an excellent read, I was immediately sucked into this book. This book has definite trigger moments and I appreciate that the author makes note of that. The fact that Gianna is strong enough to say enough is enough and gets out of the hell she is living in is so beautiful to me. I felt so disgusted at the fact that Ethan, a cop, planned to meet Gianna and to be with her no matter what. The way he treats her is unacceptable and had me wanting to get into this book somehow. I appreciate how Derek took his time with Gianna, and made sure she was comfortable in everything and with everything. This book was truly remarkable in the way the story was told, the characters are developed and the detailing is laid out. I hope this book reaches other women in similar situations and gives them the strength and courage to finally say they have had enough.

I loved this book and did not want it to end! The Christmas theme really got me into the holiday spirit. Miranda and Nick are so beautiful together. Im so happy that even after all Nick went through, he was able to find love again let alone trust a woman again. He never gives up on chasing after Miranda, which makes my heart melt. When they have their big blow out fight, I am devastated and couldn’t read fast enough to see what would happen. I could understand why Nick felt the way he did, he felt abandoned and like he was a secret. On the other hand brushing Miranda off after she tries to get in touch with him and then acting the way he did when she tries to make it right was a little childish. I was concerned that their age difference was going to be the downfall of their relationship but it was really down to Miranda’s mother. All of the drama, romance, steamy moments and watching their relationship grow is fun to watch. I can’t wait to check out more from this author.

I absolutely loved this book! The characters were easy to fall in love with and the story, had me so entranced. I did not read the other books in the series, but I didn’t feel as though I couldn’t follow along, although it would have been nice if I did so I could have had some background on Rick’s brothers Will and Jake and their dramas. From the beginning I really thought Rick and Dave were going to be it, but the way Dave broke it off with Rick was just heartbreaking, especially to see how Rick reacted to the separation. When he meets Brent I started getting excited for a new relationship for him, and it is HOT! I love Rick and Brent together and I love how protective Rick gets of Brent. When Rick’s brothers drama comes back and spills into his life with Brent it adds a little bit of excitement into the steamy romance we have going on. I wish this book could have been longer, I was hanging on every word. I hate that any homosexual male or female feel they have to hide who they are for fear of what the public will thing, I can’t wait for the day when anyone of a different sexuality will feel safe enough shout who they love without any fear or discrimination A definite must read!
