Who do you trust when you’re put into a unknown environment? Wren has no one and has been an apprentice for four years in a confectioners shop. Her life gets completely turned around when the guild masters come for her. This book was a never ending crazy moment. At every point something was happening. Wren’s life was not her own after tragedy strikes twice. Man I felt bad for her. She really had no one. Then the people she did have turned on her so fast. After reading the Confectioner’s Guild book 1 in this series it was completely awesome to go back and read Hale’s story. I don’t normally like doing this but it worked perfectly for me in this case. I was able to get a much better understanding of who Hale is and where he came from, and the lessons and the tragic losses he experienced along the way.
I really liked Hale in The Guild but spent a few too many pages completely angry at him, and although he was able to redeem himself in the end it did help having this part of his story and knowing I was right to like him so much!
I can not wait for the next in this series, there are stories brewing and I can not wait to dive back in and see what sort of adventures these characters have in store for them. I highly recommend this series and where you read this book whether before or after book one should not matter in my opinion but I’m glad I read it after I read the guild.
This author is completely amazing, I am always drawn in immediately where some books take me a few pages. I know I can always count on this author to give me something I would not normally read and make me fall in love.
A great read about luck. Wren is given the chance of a lifetime when a customer notices her baking and tells the Guild and they offer her a job. But before she can start, the guildmaster drops dead whilst eating one of her cupcakes. Accused of his murder, Wren faces execution and is only spared by being vouched for by the inspector and that the King is absent. But can they find the real killer before its too late and the King returns? A great read; Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn’t put down. Well developed characters like Wren struggling to trust people but wanting to belong or Lucas trying to help people or Hale with his humorous personality but kind nature underneath. Great supporting cast like the stern Callidus of the sweet Olivia. A brilliant example of world building in a fantasy world with its rules and societies and geography and history that was detailed with care for the audience to imagine. I loved the vivid imagery throughout the novel for example with the palace and temple in a sense of grandeur and detail in a sense of wonder shared with Wren or the vivid colours of dresses and icing. or the scenery of mountains and water further on in the novel colourful and spectacular all beautifully written to create the sense of wonderful world full of life and colour and people. the idea of magic bakers was a fun and fantastic idea and was a brilliant addition to the fantasy genre. The passion for baking in Wren was a lovely touch. Fast paced action and high stakes in a wonderful fantasy world made for a captivating read. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.

I love food and reading and anything that combines the two are pretty much my favorite thing in the whole wide world. This book puts a super fun twist on a murder mystery. Wren Confectioner has found herself thrust into a world she does not understand, she is struggling to come to terms with the understanding of what she had gotten herself into. Wren has been charged with a magical murder and she has no idea why. She makes friends with a very VERY handsome magical inspector to try to solve this dying problem and the friends she makes along the way help her try to master her powers. The deeper Wren and her friends get into this mystery, the higher up the chain they go on the suspect list, and Wren soon discovers that death by chocolate cupcake is not the worst way to go. I loved every inch of this book. Wren is a sassy, force to be reckoned with character. Lucas, the investigator, is a no nonsense, handsome man who I just absolutely fell in love with. You will not regret picking up this sweet read
Yet another winner from Claire Luana. This delightful story was a quick page turner; I couldn’t put it down. I loved this prequel as an addition to the Confectioners series. Great characters, steady story development. Hands down a great book and one I will recommend to others.
The Confectioner’s Guild is the first novel in the Confectioner Chronicles by Claire Luana. This is my third novel by this author.
Wren is a confectioner apprentices working in a confection shop. When a mysterious man shows up asking questions about her cupcakes, she is unsure of who he is or what she wants. Reluctantly she goes with him to meet the GuildMaster and thrown in a world she never knew existed and discovers an ability she never knew she processed.
But when the Guild Master is poisoned after eating of her cupcakes, she only has a limited time to prove her innocence and find out who really framed her before the king’s inquisitor arrives.
I’ve read a few books by this author and must admit this is my favorite so far.
While the beginning was confusing, I was interested in what was going on. I also love Wren’s character. She was funny and it was great seeing her passion for baking especially all the love and care she puts into the frosting of her cupcakes.
I fell in love with the cover and did not quite understand the title until I started reading the book. With a interesting concept, fun characters and world about magic, I highly recommend this book. I look forward to reading the next books in the series.
The Confectioner’s Exile is a speedy read. It’s short and sweet and captures who Hale was before he met Wren and got swept up in a murder mystery. As fun as Hale is as a character, it’s hard to see him carrying his own novel. Much of his story is already told in The Confectioner’s Guild. It’s nice to meet his family and see the familial dynamics unfold in the story throughout the pages (honestly, his mother is pretty amazing) but there’s not much else to it.
Hale is a great character, of that there is no doubt, but the story is lacking something that the series lacks: a unique quality to it. This story is far too familiar, to see a rich spoiled kid ripped from everything he knows, seeking refuge in a foreign land. There’s a lot of adventure, but it’s all very rushed and condensed. It is a novella; it is supposed to be short, but, again, Hale isn’t a strong enough character to carry on his own story leaving the energy somewhere else. There are some great characters that pop up, particularly Griff whose personality will surely catch the reader off guard, and we can only hope to see more of Griff, but other characters are short lived.
The story would have done better if it were just a little longer and if Hale’s mother was shown off more. She’s a fantastic character who is there in the beginning and the end, but missing for much of the middle of the novel. To see their relationship grow would have helped the story flourish just a little more and create an extra level of depth considering what readers know happens to her in the Guild. But overall, the story is entertaining, but Hale, he’s just Hale, his life verges a little on cliché, but he’s still fun to read, that is for sure.

Wren is an orphan, growing up the hard way. She gets by, but barely. She lives for her job in the bakery, making cupcakes and other sweet treats. After her cupcakes get the attention on the Confectioner’s Guild, she is whisked away to what seems like a much better life. It all seems to good to be true. And just maybe it is. No sooner does a better life seem to be within her grasp, than it looks like it will be pulled away just as quickly. She is accused of murder. All because of her cupcakes. Can she find out who did it, or is she doomed? Will she ever have a better life?
This is a young adult book set in a fantastic magical world. It put me in mind of a place JK Rowling would have created. It is something completely new to me and I absolutely loved it. The world is fascinating and the characters are great. Not only is Wren a very down to earth main character, the others in this book are just as great. There are so many that I would love to know more about. Besides the magic in it, there is the suspense of figuring out just who committed the murder and why. You will be kept guessing as you puzzle through the clues.
An overall outstanding book, I highly recommend this book to young adults and older.

Well this was another delightful and fun addition to The Confectioner Chronicles. This is actually a prequel novella, so reads like one and is a quick light read. I devoured it in one short sitting. The first book, ‘The Confectioner’s Guild’, which I ADORED, featured our main character, Hale in this one. I really enjoyed the fact that we got the backstory of him. Hale has it all, literally. Good looks, riches, the family hierarchy. However, it isn’t all it seems under the surface. Especially when something happens and it is all ripped away from him. Now he is on the run and forced to fend for himself. He has never had to do this before, so imagine the difficulty and the story lines this makes for. Can he survive on his own? I am dying to get my hands on the next book, ‘The Confectioner’s Truth.’ I will just be over her salivating… Thanks for another great read Claire Luana!
Enchanted & cloyingly sweet! I absolutely loved every second I spent with Wren! Claire Luana was a completely new author to me, but I can assure you this will soon be remedied. I have become enthralled with the magical writing skills that she possesses. First, I must start with this amazing cover. I was drawn in with its beautiful colors and enchanting design. Who wouldn’t want to find out what lays behind that? Given I hadn’t known the author previously, I simply went in blind, and wasn’t I pleasantly pleased!
Do not be fooled however. This isn’t so sweet and wholesome as it looks. Hence my cloyingly description. Wren is the very best of bakers. She enjoys what she does and it comes out in her baking. She loves being in her little corner of the world making her masterpieces. Unfortunately, when the Guildmaster calls you must oblige. So oblige she does. This is where things go a bit awry. As mentioned in the teaser his is poisoned and she is to blame! Why would simple and sweet Wren poison the Guildmaster!?
Well this has left her in a tortuous bind. She has merely ONE month to collect her proof that she did not commit the crime she has been accused of or else… To make matters worse she has no alliances and no family now when she needs them the most. What will she do? The journey she will take will be sure to keep you engaged and entertained well beyond your bedtime. I know it did for me. Who doesn’t love a good novel about deserts? Honestly, this book made me crave some delicious pastries that were indeed worth dying for I’m sure, especially if it gave me some good luck. Who doesn’t love a little luck in life?
The Confectioners Guild is a delightfully yummy novel that is so unique in the way it combines delectable deserts and magic. It’s great to see how intricate desert making is but what’s also unique about this novel is how seriously this is taken. There is so much discipline that goes into confections that to see it brought to life in this novel is delightful. The fact that there is a guild dedicated strictly to overseeing it makes it not only fun but impressive as well.
Following Wren, a girl who was once a street urchin turned confectioner; the novel unfolds as much to the reader as it does for her. There are so many politics and intricacies that, in a way, mirrors that of dessert making. That’s part of what makes this novel so riveting. The fact that it works to this end, to keep true to its essence as a story while it builds layers upon layers of mystery, humor, and romance into the storytelling.
Now, Wren was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, used as a scapegoat, her magical cupcake the culprit for murder. So really, on some level, this story is a murder-mystery type story, following Wren as she tries to unravel the politics of the game she has unwittingly entered. There are so many culprits and a strong sense of misdirection that keeps the reader on the edge of their seats. It makes for an intense read, a riveting one because while the story is unique, the idea thrill of unraveling this mystery alongside the reader makes for an enthralling read.
So, the story is excellent, of that, there is no doubt, but the characters themselves are also fantastic. Wren starts as quite ordinary, but as the story unfolds, her strengths, her spunk, everything about her begins to shine and flourish. Wren flourishes and grows alongside the story, and the way she develops makes her captivating. She goes from being a girl scared of her own shadow to a woman who can face death with her head held eye, unwilling to give up.
Overall, it’s a strong fun story that will surely leave the reader eager (and hesitant) for a cupcake.
This is a take on King Authur and his knights of the round table. This story is just the beginning of this series. I feel like it ended at a good place, but there are still a lot of unknowns that will be dealt with in following books. I loved Fionna! She is strong, fierce, and loyal. She deals with a lot of conflict in this book that are both internal and external. I did get a bit frustrated with her at a time for some of her choices, but she is still my favorite character out of the bunch! This story did s great job at grabbing my attention and entangling me so that I cannot wait to read what happens next!

I absolutely adore Arthurian legends and stories. This was just an absolutely refreshing take on the legend. I really enjoyed reading this book. I like how the authors were able to bring a refreshing twist to this and bring the story to life. I was so hooked from page one.
I like how there was new life brought to the legend of old. I was really routing for Fionna. I could just imagine myself as her trying to fight for what was right and the people I loved. This book brings such a unique twist to the legend along with more drama. I really couldn’t put this book down. I am really on the edge of my seat now awaiting the next book in this series. I have and will read more from these authors.

The Fifth Knight: An Arthurian Legend Reverse Harem Romance (The Knights of Caerleon Series Book 1) By Claire Luana and Jesikah Sundin I enjoyed reading this book, from the moment I started reading I was drawn into a world of fantasy, magic, action, and romance. I couldn’t put it down till I had read every page. I really liked the twists and turns on this version of the Legend of King Arthur. I think the Reverse Harem part of the story was written very well. The heroin Fionna is an awesome character, she is strong, and independent and I loved her. This is a must read to find out what sort of twists and turns there are in this particular story, but I will tell you that this is an exceptionally well written story that kept me captivated throughout. I highly recommend this book.

Strong female character in an Arthurian tale? Sign me up. Fionna is a fierce and talented warrior who is the key to breaking the fae curse that Arthur and his Knights are up against. I was hooked from start to finish. I have always enjoyed Arthurian legends and this is my first RH novel so it was pretty interesting to add to the mix of what I’ve already consumed in terms of Arthurian literature. The story is told from several different POV characters, which I’ve always thought helps to flesh out characters. I also like that although Fionna is a strong willed character, she doesn’t have that irritating trope of getting in over her head to prove herself and then needing to be rescued like any old damsel in distress. It was kind of annoying that everyone seemed to fall in love with her like they’d never seen a woman before but I guess it fits in with the timeline/history/ story that the whole thing is based around. Can’t wait for the next book!

Incredible. Fans of the Legend of King Arthur will surely appreciate this novel and the complexities of it. What’s also great about this novel is the characterization. Fionna is unstoppable and incredible, and such a strong female character, very different from the usual damsels in distress that are common in Arthurian retellings. However, her story goes beyond just representing a strong female character; it also goes to the twist in the narrative surrounding Gwenevere. It’s an interesting set-up and plot twist for the story and sets up great tension in the story as it unfolds. Readers know the eventual outcome, anyone who knows about Arthur, Lancelot and Gwenevere see the result, but the journey there, the twist to that ending makes it captivating because there are so many avenues this story and plot twist could take, making it unpredictable.
Nevertheless, the story is about more than Fionna; it’s about the Arthurian legend and how it comes to life.
Sundin and Luana knew what they were doing when they decided to make this story a reverse harem. It’s a new genre that is gaining more and more traction as of late because its concept is to have one female character and have multiple men fall in love with her. Now, there are many ways this genre can be taken, in some ways, depending on the writer, it’s clear that the goal is to create something more erotic, lacking focus on storytelling. But then you have some incredible works that develop the genre and ground it, focusing on the story and character building. This is one of those novels. The romance doesn’t overwhelm the novel; it works to create tension and build the foundation of the story. The emotion in the story, the overwhelming sense of desire and love, the different analogies like “someone smelling like home,” they all work in tandem with one another to make sure the depth keeps the romance from falling into something cheesy or dated.
I’ll say this, I’ve never read a reverse harem novel, to be honest, didn’t think it would be my cup of tea, but like with any story, as long as it has powerful writing behind it and grounded storytelling, any genre can be anyone’s cup of tea. This novel is proof of that.
This is the first book I’ve read by Jesikah Sundin, I enjoy reading Claire Luana so I was excited to read this story.
It’s an interesting take on The Knights of the Round Table. Honestly, I don’t know much about the legend so it was all pretty new to me. I found the reverse harem an interesting twist. RH is new to me and it feels like it’s the latest “popular genre”. I have read a lot of it and this seemed tamer than what I have read.
The story features a kick a** strong female lead whose destiny is written and it is not the usual direction you would think she would be going. The characters are well developed and the story is layered with a few different threads. It held my interest and I only found myself skimming a few times.
I will re-read this story when the future installments are published.

The fifth Knight is Book 1 in the series The Knights of Caerleon. This series comes from authors Claire Luana & Jesikah Sundin. This is my second read from the author Claire Luana and she continues to show how great of a fantasy author she is. This is my first time reading a reverse harem read, and was surprised at how much I enjoyed the adventures our characters faced. This book was made even better by the way the author has written it – I love that we get told the story from various POV’s it gives us a better understanding to our characters, there thoughts and feelings and why they do or say certain things.
First off let’s point out how great of a spin on the story of King Arthur and his knights of the round table this read is. Then to make it even more captivating we are thrown into the world with fae and magic. I loved the mythology in this read, and how facts from history are incorporated into the story. This author has made this a mentally visual read, so whenever I plunged into this world I would feel as though I was there alongside the characters. This read is action-packed read that continues to captivate you from start to finish. It left you on the edge of your seat wondering what could happen on numerous occasions.
This book engaged me into the story and characters so much the ending came much too quickly – with that being said I really am looking forward to Book 2 in this series.

This book revolves around the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the round table. In Celtic mythology, there is a claim the the Tuatha De Danann (The Fae) had a hand in Arthur becoming king. The book incorporates that theory into the story. Not only do we have Arthur and his gorgeous knights but we have the Fae and the magic of Merlin and Morgana all in one exciting story.
Morgana has cursed Excalibur and the kingdom of Caerleon. Merlin has foreseen a fifth knight breaking the curse. Never in their wildest dreams did they think that it would be a female knight. Fiona is captivating with her otherworldly beauty. Though small, she is a fierce warrior who has stolen the Knights’ hearts. She is fated to be the one to lead them to the holy grail that will break the curse upon the land.
This is supposed to be a reverse harem book but compared to others that I have read, this one is pretty tame. Considering that Lancelot is cursed and Perceval has taken a vow of chastity, the situation makes it impossible for Fiona to be with all four. Since this is the first book in the Knights of Caerleon series, I’m assuming that there will be a slow build up until the reverse harem can be fully realized.
I did enjoy the book tremendously seeing as it was steeped in legend and mythology. The characters are strong and unique in their personalities. I think the authors did a brilliant job reinventing a story about King Arthur by incorporating historical facts. The attention to details in the vivid descriptions had me feeling like I was there as well. I was drawn in from the beginning until it ended. The Fifth Knight: An Arthurian Legend Reverse Harem Romance by Claire Luana and Jesikah Sundin is the first book in the The Knights of Caerleon series. This book is not only a great collaboration of two authors – one I have read before and enjoyed the work of, one who was entirely new to me – but this is also a great reimagining of Arthur and The Knights of Camelot story that everyone knows. This book takes the tale and completely twists it. With the addition of a fifth, female Knight the authors manage to evolve a well known story and make it their own. The book was well written and well developed, with a clear direction. The characters worked well, you got the almost familiarity in Arthur as a character we already know all about, along with the newness of Fionna. For me this was a great first book to the series and I am looking forward to reading more.

This is a good solid story. It’s told from a time that had magic and faeries. Full of the tales from the knights of the round tables. Very enjoyable and not really what I thought it would be for a reverse harem. Each chapter is told from a different characters point of view. It’s kind of nice to see what everyone is thinking and how they are feeling or responding to what has happened. The characters are interesting. The fifth Knight is sneaky and strong and uses everything to get to become the a knight. The dialogue between the original four is fun and witty. They have obviously been friends for a bit. The story drew me in and kept me wondering what was going to happen. I loved the backgrounds and really felt myself transported to that era.
Make sure you read the historical notes at the back of the story. Very Interesting!

I have read books by one of these authors previously and liked her writing style so I was looking forward to reading this book written by two authors. I love it when authors come together to write. I thought that their writing styles went together really well and the story flowed seamlessly. It was hard to tell that it was written by two people. I really enjoyed the story and the characters that they created. I am quite new to this genre so I am still getting used to it but I thought that it was really well written and I found myself easily captivated by what I was reading. I loved the fantasy side of the story and thought that the descriptions were really rich which enabled me to imagine exactly what I was reading. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series and for more from these two brilliant authors.

I give The Fifth Knight: An Arthurian Legend Reverse Harem Romance (The Knights of Caerleon series Book 1) by Claire Luana & Jesikah Sundin, 5 stars.
Fionna will do anything to save her family. When she is sent to Caerleon to steal Excalibur, she accepts. She is a fierce warrior, she can handle it. But she does not expect the king and his knights to be so welcoming, and so sexy. But her family comes first. Although, the more she is around these men, the more she is accepted and feels comfortable. But she has to steal the sword, doesn’t she?
This takes the legend of King Aurthur and his knights and flips it into something you have never read before. There has been a lot of taking old fairytales and stories and rewriting them lately. But this book really stands out as something new and different. It takes some of the characters you know and makes a whole new story out of them. It is written so well, the two authors do a superb job of blending their skills into making this a fun and interesting book. I really like Fionna as a lead character and cannot wait to see where the next book takes her and her fellow knights.
I highly recommend this book to those who like fantasy with some reverse harem romance.
The Fifth Knight is the first book in The Knights of Caerleon Series by Claire Luana and Jesikah Sundin. Wow! What a fantastic collaboration this book has turned out to be. I am a big fan of Ms. Luana’s, but Ms. Sundin is a new-to-me author- but after reading this book, that’s something I plan on rectifying as soon as possible. These two authors really compliment each other’s style and this book reflects that in so many ways. From the fascinating and original storyline, to the polished writing, the brilliant world building, and wonderful characters- everything was really well thought out and developed, which made it all seem quite realistic and believable. It meshed so well, I certainly couldn’t tell which parts were written by whom. It all seemed to flow beautifully, a real credit to both their talents. This is a brilliant Arthurian fantasy- a reverse harem with plenty of swords and sorcery, magic, action, adventure, drama, revenge, plots, curses, the hand of fate, knights, Merlin, battles, suspense, spice, betrayal, hope, and surprises. King Arthur’s kingdom has been cursed, the fate of his realm looks dark. With Lancelot, Percival and Galahad by his side, their only hope is to find the fifth knight, foretold in prophecy to hold the power to break the curse. The very last thing they expected was to find the fifth knight, and find out that she is a woman… Fionna is a skilled warrior who is on a mission to save her family. She has her sights set on a magic sword, which leads her to Caerleon, Arthur and the knights. What ensues when she gets there and earns her place as a knight makes for an incredibly captivating story that I would definitely recommend to all fantasy, reverse harem, and Arthurian fans. I must admit when I first saw this book that I as a little worried that the whole reverse harem aspect of the story would overwhelm the fantasy/Arthurian side of the tale. But I needn’t have worried as Ms. Luana and Ms. Sundin wove a wonderful tapestry, where the reverse harem was just one element in an incredible, multi-layered story. I was pulled into the story and followed along cheering them on the whole way. There were times where things got quite complicated and difficult, which had me a little anxious to see how everything would work out. I read this book in an evening, just so I wouldn’t have to put it down. I love what these two wonderful authors have accomplished together, and I can not wait to read the rest of the series. Well done!

What a story that Claire Luana and Jesikah Sundin has written!!! The Fifth Knight is in the fantasy genre. There are a couple of familiar names in this story, Arthur, Lancelot, Percivial, and Merlin. These men were waiting for the “fifth knight” that Merlin predicted but they did not except a woman name Fionna. She is a fierce warrior. Fionna is also a independent and stubborn woman. I think that they three personalities go together. She is there to steal a faerie sword from the king. Fionna is conflicted about what she is about to do to help her family. This story is very well written and Claire and Jesikah is perfecting the story line with the other books in this series.

A great read about mysterious fates. To save her father and sister from a rival Irish clan, Fionna strikes a deal to go to England and steal a faerie sword, the famous Excalibur. To get into Arthur’s kingdom, she fights in a tourney and suprises everyone. But fate has more suprises in store for her than she could ever expect. With a cursed land at stake, can Fionna help her new friends? A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn’t put down. Well developed characters like Fionna trying to save her family but also a fiercesome warrior. Brillaint set of supporting cast like the humourous but kind Percival or the sensible Lancelot.I loved the visual detail throughout the novel with its sense of nature as a home and a part of everyday life shaping the people and full of the senses as if you were there. A great twist on the Arthurian legend with Irish additions to the tale. I also loved the use of Irish mythology in the novel with Morrigans and the sidhe fae true to their origins. Overall a brillaint read and I would give it five stars.

Hale is a Member of a prominent family and has everything he could want – money, good looks, an easy life. His life isn’t perfect, but he quite likes it. But all of that is taken away in an instant. Events happen that leave him on the run with his family. Surviving and fending for himself is something has never had to do before. Part of him enjoys the adventure, but another part of him misses the easy life he had. Will he survive? What about his family? What will they do when they finally make it to safety?
I have read this author before, but this is the first book in the series that I have read. It was wonderful. I do not know yet what role Hale holds in the future books, but this novella tells his story well. It is quite interesting to see just how much Hale transforms. He was an arrogant, easy going man who loved the good life. But he is forced to change. The story itself pulls you in too. As this author does so well, it does not take too long for the action to start and does not relent until the end.
This is a young adult fantasy book, but really any age above YA would enjoy it. I highly recommend it.

Claire Luana did it again with The Confectioner Chronicles. She has created a world within that has food apart of the magic. Ms. Luana has a tendency to write her characters with the most love or hate with in her story. She likes to teach little lessons with in her book. I think that is why I am a follower of Ms. Luana. In this story she takes an upper class son Hale and makes him a lower class citizen, which to me says anything can happen and you need to be ready for it. Wren, who bakes desserts with luck inside it, finds herself without luck as she is accused of murder. There is no time for Wren to try solving this on her own. Throughout this story it is really fast paced and one needs to pay attention behind every twist and turn because there are clues and you do not want to miss them. The underlying theme I felt as a part of this story is trust and all the making of good desserts. I would love to find a bake shoppe that has magical desserts to help get out of situations that may be happening in my world. I would recommend reading this series as it is only going to get better.
