This was such a fun and cute story. I love a good frenemy romance with a little mystery thrown in.

The characters are adorable. Zane is such a gentleman, even to a fault! Elle is so relatable, trying to keep herself busy and make everyone around her happy. I love the shenanigans she gets into. Even the side characters are quirky and fun.

A cute story that will have you laugh and cry.

Elle has been running her mother’s bakery since she passed away. Zane moves in next door and starts making overtures to buy Elle’s. Oh my goodness, this means war. This story will tickle your funny bone while also having parts that will touch your heart. Joyce has been with Elle since she was a kid, working in the bakery. She has always been a Mother at heart. Elle must deal with Joyce’s dementia as well as mystery deliveries, Zane’s hijinks and wanting to date her. Connie, her BFF, tells her to just do what her heart tells her. Elle has to learn to not be such a control freak. That’s what makes the story so enjoyable to me. From one control freak to another, it’s always funny to watch them learn to grow. The story has humor, romance, friendship, business rivalries and nosy reporters, not to mention more to keep you enthralled. The author wrote fantastic characters. Zane is one of those guys that he takes the licking and still stays because he knows its not personal. He’s what we all want. Elle is totally someone we can empathies with. The reference to Jane Eyre certainly doesn’t hurt. Wonderful story. Highly recommend to all.

Flirting With My Enemy: A Sweet Romantic Comedy by Laura Burton is the first book in the Love is a Mystery series. I thought this was a fun and entertaining story, the perfect kind of book for a lazy afternoon of reading. It is an easy read that has relatable characters and I found it to be pretty amusing.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I liked the fact that she created a great sweet romance without relying on the usual aspects. She kept it clean but also created a story that is interesting to read. I love stories that are a little dirtier but I can appreciate the writing in a book like this. This is an all round enjoyable book that I definitely worth a read.

This is a new author to me, but I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading her work. This is a very funny book and I laughed out loud on several occasions while reading it. She did a great job with the story and keeping me guessing how some of the squabbles between the characters would end. In fact, there were sometimes I laughed and then other times I cried, but then other times I was angry that they were arguing over the petty things that they were. However, their pettiness created a recipe for disaster with a cherry on top. It was perfect and everything I love in romance and more.

Both funny and refreshing, this is my first time reading a book by Laura Burton and I am already looking forward to the sequel coming out next year.
The characters were cute and loveable and make the reading so pleasurable. The funny part were hilarious but Laura also included bits and pieces that made you feel for love and family.
Rom-Com’s are my fav genre so if you are looking for something of its kind this comes highly recommended.

Flirting with the Enemy was a sweet story. I did have a lot of questions as I was reading since it really jumped in right at the start. I was glad that they were able to be answered as the story went on. I loved Zane’s character! Elle was a good character but I had difficulty at times connecting with her. She frustrated me because her train of thinking was all over the place at times and I just had a hard time with her. I did connect with her on a personal level when she was taking care of Joyce. It resonated with me regarding things going on in my life right now. Overall, it was a good story. The epilogue had me confused at first but then it made sense at the end. I would read more books by this author.

Elle is determined to not like Zane and is sure that he is her enemy. As they grow closer, Elle has to decide if Zane is innocent or is trying to use her. I really enjoyed this romance story. It has parts that make you laugh. The leading lady Elle is really relatable. She is a young business woman who is running her mother  bakery. It’s not what she wants to do but she feels she owes it to her mother.
When Zane opens up another bakery right next door it makes Elle angry.

The anger from Elle to Zane intensifies when he makes her an offer for her business. It will give Elle the chance to do what she really wants which is create cakes so why does she see this as an insult. Elle’s firey  temperament brings out her protectiveness  towards her mothers business and she will stop at nothing to protect it.

Zane however can’t understand Elle’s reaction. All he wants is to spend time with her and get to know her but Elle fights him all the way. Until she gives in and things seem to be looking up.

Is this all a ploy by Elle to find out what Zane’s planning? What happens when pretending to have a connection to someone turns into a real passionate connection? Can Elle survive opening her heart to Zane?

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is an enjoyable and engaging romantic comedy with an enemies to lovers theme and a cozy mystery twist. Elle Brook is convinced that Zane Masters, the big-shot CEO of Got Cake is sabotaging her business and she is determined to prove it. Elle declines an offer from Zane to buy her bakery and after that some crates of dead fish were delivered to her bakery and the smell was bad for days. Then just before Elle is due to release something new Got Cake announces something suspiciously similar. As Zane is her number one suspect, Elle plots to get the proof that she’s needs and to do this she plans to get ‘really close’ to him. The only problem is that Zane is a bit of a known heartthrob and has a smouldering smile that can melt hearts, not Elle’s though or at least that is what she promises her friends when they warn her against her plan. Elle thinks she will be fine as the only way she can get hurt is if she lets her heart get involved and it’s not likely that she will fall in love with her enemy, will she. This is a sweet, heartwarming romance with likeable and relatable characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. There were some real laugh out loud moments as well as some drama and plenty of romance. I liked the added mystery element to the story which had me hooked.

I enjoyed this friends to enemies story. This is a sweet romance-mystery story that kept me engaged and turning pages to the end. This is a well written story that had me laughing throughout the story. The characters are connectable and bring life to the story. They are written with a lot of heart and soul. The author’s use of details made the story realistic and fun to read. This is a story about Elle and Zane. She thinks that he is trying to sabotage her business. The only way she can prove it is to get close to him. Will she get more than she bargained for? What will fate have in store for these two? I really enjoyed these two characters. They truly made the story for me. I am happy I picked up this book and the laughs that come with it. I highly recommend this book.

I love cozy romantic stories and this one really delivered! It was as if a delicious cake with all the layers needed to satisfy a craving, but yet left you wanting more! This was my first read by the author and I am completely head over heels with her work! I spent my entire day reading this, no regrets here! It was a great way to fulfill my morning!

I am a past bakery owner so I always love stories that focus around a bakery. Throw in the two main characters Elle and Zane. Both truly different, but can they find common ground? Perhaps there is a attraction between one another but, both are so wrapped up in their own worlds they can not see it?

Elle owns a wonderful bakery that belonged to her mom. Having this bakery truly has a special place in Elle’s heart. You can tell as you get to know her character that keeping it is really everything to her. As Elle has this bakery.. well so does Zane, but he owns a bakery next door. He is on a different financial level in terms of Elle. He’s basically quite rich. And he is the type of guy if he wants something as in obtaining the next door bakery, you can damn well be sure he’s going to make sure he gets it .To put it mildly, Zane knows how to push Elle’s buttons. As stubborn as she is, she is not one to give in. Even if he may have very charming good looks as well as well as is good with his hands (in terms of baking of course) Perhaps zingers of an attraction can make a dessert so heavenly that it can melt the steel walls between these two people? But they are sworn enemies. How possibly can they over come their differences and realize what is front of them is maybe everything they ever needed?

Elle is a strong and determined person. She believes if she charms Zane with her sweet desserts she will have him wrapped around her finer. She believes matters of the heart are always easy to ignore and she can do this. As time goes on they both grow and change in different ways and we the readers learn new things about their characteristics. They both have a different personality that is so likable and lets face it, they both have that cute personality and their methods of how they go about one another has so much adorableness you cant shy away from wanting to read more to see how things go about!

They both did the unthinkable. Yup. They fell crazy in love with one another. Ells is facing some personal things more than meets the eye. Though she failed her original plan she found the one thing she may very well be unable to live without! But will love triumph overall? Is there wedding bells in this future and perhaps even a wedding cake? Or will this all end before it really even had a chance to put frosting on the cake?

I could not put this book down. Zane and Elle kept me reading and wanting more. I swear it was a good tasting cake. Perfect balance of sweetness but, not to sweet where I had to put it down. i was rooting for these two seriously destined to be together humans. Even if at times they didn’t see eye to eye, they were indeed the perfect recipe for one another.

Again really enjoyed this book and did not want to spare a moment till I finished reading it. Very happy I got to read this book and grow along with Elle and Zane!

Highly recommend. I am pretty sure you wont be able to put it down as I was. Most importantly this author did an amazing story and I truly enjoyed and was quite happy reading it! Wonderful read!

This selection of short stories really hits the reader and makes them want more! I’m usually not a huge fan of short stories because I really like to get into a story when I read but with Jane Suen’s stories, I was left satisfied. Each of the short stories captivates the reader and really brings them along for the ride and keeps your emotions high. Each story is very different from the others. I won’t spoil anything for the readers other than to say, my favorite pick of the stories was “The End Of Summer”.

Beginnings and Endings: A Selection of Short Stories by Jane Suen is a romance slice life kinda book. Each short story was wonderful.

Life never works out the way you expect it to. A father’s passionate quest to inform his kid about an essential part of his past; an accident that has a terrible effect on two lives in different ways; and a weekly routine that turns into the biggest surprise of all time. Beginnings and Endings is a trilogy of short stories that will leave you with a knot in your throat. Over a beloved bowl of breakfast, Grits Girl explores the beginning of a lifetime of love. The Accident is a bittersweet tale about how life can change in the blink of an eye. In the film The End of Summer, two men come to grips with their pasts thanks to an unexpected detour and a child’s pure delight. Each tale is full of surprising twists and turns, and there’s even a bonus flash fiction piece, Pick Me, to brighten your day.

I loved this story and the concept of it as well. I loved every page of it. Every chapter was exciting. This is the first book that I have read from this author, I cant wait to read more.

Beginnings and Endings is a trio of short stories by Jane Suen. I really enjoy the variety of Suen’s work – I had read several of her books before it really clicked for me that they were by the same author! – and this collection really showcases her skill in storytelling. It gets four stars from me!
Although the three stories are separate and distinct, there is a thread running through them of commitment in relationships. We see couples’ relationships developing and enduring through the ups and downs of life.
My main (only?) complaint is that there isn’t more! The stories themselves are quite short and with only three of them (plus a bonus really cute flash fiction) this will not take most readers very long to read at all. I would have loved a wider variety of stories – perhaps including some in the realm of speculative fiction – that I could dip in and out of.
I would recommend this collection to readers looking for stories they can quickly enjoy in a coffee break or similar. They’re short, satisfying and thought-provoking. I think they could also work really well for reading and discussing with teenagers, as accessible stories touching on important issues as well as excellent examples of the short story format.

This is a set of three short stories. Each one has their own easy to read plot. The first is a happy love story between to college students. The second is a haunting but realistic story of a soldier back from war. The third is a happy but also a tragic story of a father and son trip to a carnival and farm. All three of these short stories I can see being built on and added to other books or becoming books of their own. The author wrote them well and I can’t wait to read more in the future! Jane Suen has given us short stories in Beginnings and Endings: A Selection of Short Stories. Even though the stories are very short Jane did not skimp on the descriptive content. Each one is as different as night and day and evoke emotions a little pain, a bit of sweetness and a little bit of fun. Jane has mixed a lot of heart and feels in to make the stories memorable. My only complaint is they were too short. It would be good to see them made into longer stories. And just when you thought you were finished Jane gave us a little added bonus.

Real life has beginnings and endings. Sometimes we must face an end to open our eyes to a beginning. This book contains three short stories that opened my eyes to the way that life just happens. We never know what is out there, but we have to keep searching until we find the right path for ourselves.

In Beginnings and Endings, the short story that spoke to me the most is called “The Accident”. In “The Accident”, there is a couple who are starting their day. The story speaks of all their hopes and dreams which were changed because of an accident. (I’m not giving away the story because it’s much better to read.)

Beginnings and Endings was 4 super short stories. I almost with there was a bit more to them. I think they were way to short to base an opinion off of. I think this was about 35 pages in total and can be read in one sitting. It took me about 20-25 mins to read all 4. What I did read was good but just felt like it brought new meaning to the word short story lol. This author is not new to me and I have read many books by her and enjoyed just about all of them.
