Love by Design (The Meraki Series Book 2) by Effie Kammenou – Review by Mrs R

Love by Design (The Meraki series, #2)Love by Design by Effie Kammenou
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book 2 in the series but is standalone. I haven’t read book 1 and didn’t feel like I was missing out on any of the story.
Mia has just got her dream promotion at a brand new magazine, working directly with company boss, Nicholas. However, they just seem to rub each other the wrong way and just can’t get on without bickering. Both do have an attraction to each other.
This book isn’t just about Mia and Nicholas though, many other characters are woven into the story, but it’s done so well that you can keep track of who everyone is and the part they play. The extended family certainly brought some humour into the book. Delving into the history of Mia’s grandma was interesting and also heartbreaking.
As Mia and Nicholas try to work together, they find that they have many things in common, and would be perfect for each other if they could just get past their issues. Both had been hurt in the past and were reluctant to try again. It was refreshing to see that it’s not just women who have relationship hang-ups, men do too. It was extremely frustrating to see Mia, a grown woman, constantly abandon situations rather than actually talk to people, it certainly made for a lot of arguments that could have been resolved quickly had she just stayed and talked.
Overall, an interesting story.

Romance author Brooke May spends her days writing whatever her overactive imagination has brewed up and her evenings reading while she works alongside her mom. Telling stories is second natural to her, from a young age she has told anyone who would listen what she had thought up. Now, a mom of two, she splits her time writing, playing with her kids, and of course, hiking, hunting, fishing, and four-wheeling in her beloved Bighorn Mountains.

While on maternity leave with her youngest, Brooke was putting laundry away when she looked at a poem she had written in high school that was framed in her son’s bedroom. That poem triggered the idea of My Cowboy and soon she was sitting in front of her computer with her infant next to her writing her first love story that wasn’t a fanfiction.

Love is What You Bake of It (The Meraki Series #1) by Effie Kammenou

This is the first book I’ve read by Kammenou. It won’t be my last as this book is amazing. Love is What You Bake of It got me hooked from the first chapter.

Kally is trying to get out of the funk she’s put herself in. The past relationship she was in didn’t end very well. When she calls the cops to come pick up a license plate her life changes. The main cop catches her attention. The quote I chose for Kally is: “He’s married. All men suck! Seriously. I saw her at the café. She’s gorgeous, of course. What would possess any man to stray when he has such a perfect family?”

Max is finally back in his hometown after his life went to hell. His daughter had the most trauma out of all this. When he met Kally things changed. He didn’t know if he could put himself out there. The quote I chose for Max is: “No, of course not. Men are never on the lookout for beautiful, successful and interesting women like yourself. I’m surprised you’re not already married with a couple of kids. I watched you at the party. You were a natural with those children and Athena hasn’t stopped talking about you.”

Highly recommended for Contemporary Romance lovers.

Love by Design (The Meraki Series Book 2) by Effie Kammenou. This is such a fun contemporary romance series. You don’t have to read them in order but I recommend it. This is the story of Mia who has just landed her dream job at a luxury magazine. When she arrives she is so excited to meet the man she has looked up to for so long, her new boss, Nicholas. He is handsome, very successful and everything Mia has dreamed of in a boss except that he’s horrible. He’s conceited, rude and stuck up. Not the man she had pictured at all. Mia is left wondering if she will be able to work with this horrible man. Nicholas has been hurt badly in the past therefore he has built a wall around himself and no one can get in. He thinks his new hire Mia is beautiful and very talented but he won’t let her in. When they are sent on a whirlwind trip to promote their magazine together Mia starts to break down those walls and Nicholas is terrified he will be hurt again. Will Mia be able to get into Nicholas hard heart? Read Love by Design to find out!

Well I love finding new authors and I also like finding new books as well as audio books. This was a really good listen. This is the first book from this author that I have read/heard. I really enjoyed the book and the narrator was very good and added to the experience.

I could really relate to Valerie and that 15 year old crush. I really found this book to be quite a good read and I just couldn’t stop listening. I will definitely read or listen to more from this author in future.

This was my first book by K.M. Lowe, it was a very sweet and charming book. I loved the quick quips of Hannah and the comebacks from Kyle. I really enjoyed the secondary characters and thought that they brought a lot of the light hearted play to the story. I fully plan on reading more from this author.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dirty Kisses and Conflicting Wishes by Danielle Jacks is the first book in the Kiss Me series. This is an entertaining story that I really got into straight away. I thought that Damien and Zoe worked really well together. Each wanting something from the the other their pairing was unusual to start with but quickly became something so much more.
Once I had started this book I found that I couldn’t put it down. For me this is the kind of book you read in one sitting as it feels like the pages just turn themselves. This is a great start to a new series and I am already looking forward to the second book.

My Lips Are Sealed (Sealed With a Kiss #1)My Lips Are Sealed by Carmen Richter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Lips are Sealed by Carmen Richter is book one of Sealed with a Kiss.

Zoe has had a very rough time after the disappearance of her boyfriend so her parents think maybe getting out of town will help. As soon as they get back, Zoe feels the same. Nothing has really changed. That night she meets Elijah and never knew she could feel a connection so strong. She does NOT expect that the next day, Elijah will be at her school, as her new drama teacher. So much unfolds from there starting with the authorities finding the body of her boyfriend and spiraling from there the rest of the story.

I really enjoyed this book! You don’t know what to expect as you’re reading but it’s very tastefully written! Zoe is such a great character it’s hard not to be empathetic of her. Seriously such a great read, I can’t wait to continue the series!

Love by Design (The Meraki series, #2)Love by Design by Effie Kammenou
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Love by Design by Effie Kammenou is book two The Meraki Series. This book can be read as a standalone as this book tells Mia’s story.

Mis is so excited for her new job since it’s her dream job! The only issue she’s run into is her boss, Nicholas, isn’t who she thought he was and his seemingly instant dislike of her makes getting the job done pretty difficult. Nicholas ha his reasons for feeling the way he feels toward Mia but the more time they spend together he can’t help but appreciate how talented she is. Little by little he realizes their connection is much deeper than thought. Mia breaks through his walls all while fighting fears of her own. Will these two be able to fight the fears of their past and trust in the connection between them?

This book has a little bit of everything. There is drama, romance and you can’t forget the beautiful scenery. The tension between Mia and Nicholas feels so real you can’t help but feel for Mia every time Nicholas snaps at her. The characters are so well written you can’t help but want to be part of their world! I am looking forward to book three.

This had everything you need for an instant-love story and a nice change of pace from major drama filled books, which is nice .

Love by Design (The Meraki series, #2)Love by Design by Effie Kammenou
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the Meraki series and itnwas just as enjoyable as the first. The story of a work romance and a love hate relationship keeps you hooked with a will they won’t they feel.

Mia has just got her dream job with a luxury magazine and she gets to work under a boss she has always admired and had a crush on Nicholas what could possible go wrong?

Mia is shocked when Nicholas isn’t how she imagined he would be. When he dismisses her work and his attitude towards her causes friction from their first meeting. Mia wonders if she can still work with him.

Nicholas has faced many heartaches in his life which has lead him to build walls and keep people out so when Mia starts to break these walls he gets worried about getting hurt again.

This is a story about a relationship where it is definately love/hate but why does Nicholas treat Mia that way? Could there be more to the feelings they are both experiencing? And when do you cross the line between hating someone to loving them?

Fake Fiancé (A Second Chance Office Romance) AUDIO BOOK by Amy McKinley – Review by Kayla Octaviano

FIVE STARS!!

Fake Fiancé is a sophisticated romance novel that takes place in awe striking Verona where Romeo and Juliet fell in love and died for each other. The story follows Adeline, a strong, beautiful, clumsy woman with a drive to strengthen her career. Stone is a young entrepreneur who owns a hotel and is looking to expand. Neither realize what they really need until she falls into his life. The time period romance warms your heart and makes you realize how lucky we are to be able to live and love in our present world. Will this couple be able to work it out for reals? Or will their past mess everything up?

Fake Fiancé (A Second Chance Office Romance) AUDIO BOOK by Amy McKinley – Review by Charlisa Wahtomy-Alba

Adeline is freshly graduated and off to start her life in Italy. She got a job offer thanks to a sorority sister and takes the opportunity to expand her horizons. Being a whole ocean away from her clingy ex is a major plus. She knows next to nothing about her soon to be boss, Stone Crenshaw, but boy does she make a great first impression upon meeting him for the first time.

Stone Crenshaw is currently renovating his historic hotel and wants nothing more than to be done with this so he can focus on other things. He wants to move on to newer, fresher projects and keep himself busy. The first meeting with Adeline was not a smooth one, but he was willing to give her a chance to prove that she is willing and able to fill the shoes of his current secretary. Stone finds out that a well known hotelier is ready to sell and he pounces at the chance to nab the hotel. The only problem is that this man is family-oriented and Stone doesn’t have a family of his own. He will go to any lengths to make this deal happen including making Adeline his fiancé.

I enjoyed the story line for this book very much. It was a good listen while I did chores around the house and it kept me entertained. I especially liked the idea that they were reincarnated soul mates of a couple from different social backgrounds many years before. I like to think that reincarnation is a thing and that two people who are truly meant to be together find one another in every life that they live.

Love Unexpected by Marina Hanna – Review by Krista Vaughan

I wanted something hot and sexy to read and did this ever fit the bill! Jules is a strong, confident modern woman. Adam is a rich, successful force of nature that loves a good time. Their first kiss was electrifying and set the vibe for their passion for each other. Adam swearing off relationships to avoid hurting other people should be a BIG red flag, but Jules can’t seem to help herself. Adam keeps coming back for more, too. Such a dynamic couple and an amazing read.

A kiss with a stranger awakes something in Jules; hot desire and the need for more. Can she keep up with the benefits, or will she fall in love with him? Adam has never felt this way; he stays away from relationships. He wants the passion and the love making, but isn’t willing to do more… usually.

This story was steamy, and definitely an adult book. Would recommend to anyone who enjoyed 50 Shades of Grey.

What a love story!

What a love story. Stone and Adeline were destined to be together. The story is set in gorgeous Verona Italy and you just want to fall in love from the start. From their first accidental meeting as she fell into his arms to the ending it keeps you on your toes. If only every love story could be like this. Lovers of the past broken apart only to be reunited again in another life. So intriguing and captivating.

I really enjoyed this story. It was fast paced, quick witted and the characters were well written and likable. 19 year old Adeline is due to start a new dream job in sunny Italy after graduating when an encounter with a psychic at her sorority graduation party tells her to remember to follow her heart. Determined to only focus on her career and her hard earned success, a spanner is thrown in the works when her hot, sexy boss Stone asks her to be his fake fiance. I got lost in this story and found it entertaining with great scene setting from the author. I also found the narration to this story added more depth and really helped bring the story to life.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is an enjoyable steamy contemporary romance with a fast paced storyline and great characters. Whilst out celebrating her new job at ‘Foster’s Advertising and Marketing’ Jules shares a drunken, heated kiss with a stranger only to discover on Monday morning that the guy is in fact her new boss, Adam Foster. Adam is shocked to find that the women he shared a passionate kiss with is his new intern but despite the no relationship clause in place at Foster’s he can’t get that kiss out of his head. Adam makes it clear to Jules that he is not interested in a relationship and that all he is offering is sex. Jules agrees and is happy with the uncomplicated sex, which happens to be great sex, with Adam but she soon realises her heart is at risk. However, will Adam admit that what he and Jules share is more than just physical. I loved both Jules and Adam as they are both likeable and relatable characters, who obviously have amazing chemistry which sizzled off the page and led to some very steamy scenes between the couple. The storyline kept me hooked from start to finish and I felt both immersed in the story and engaged with the characters.

I enjoyed this novel. I appreciated the pace of the characters coming together. Effie highlighted that while love is not always easy it is worth it and for Mia and Nicholas’ relationship, it was perfect. Effie’s utilization of the flashback technique provided a better understanding of certain elements and insight about the characters and strengthened one of the themes (destiny) in the novel. I admired the complexity of the main characters. It was easy to follow, engaging and romantic in every sense of the word. Love by Designed is packed with layers (pages) and the more you read the more you want to know, the more you are intrigued.

This is the second book in this series by the author and after reading the first one I knew I had to read this one too. And I’m so glad that I did. This book has just as much drama and romance as the first one along with even more delicious delicacies. I cannot tell you how much I love her character building and description. She truly does an amazing job of making me want these characters to be my BFF’s. I do highly recommend reading the first book before jumping into this one just because there is a family back story that you don’t want to be out of the loop on. However, if you just stumble across this one and read it first I think you will be fine and still find it very enjoyable. In my opinion, this book is even better than the first one. I highly recommend you pick up this series and read it. It’s well worth your time and I think you will find it to be as great as I did.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Zoe has has so much heartbreak for such a young person, but will one chance meeting be the key to unlock the heartbreak and rekindle the life she had before. Can this happen or will it cause her more heartbreak?

Zoe is a teenager with a shocking past, with her boyfriend dying she is plunged into a depression her parents try and help her through the heartache by taking her away for the summer but nothing seems to shake the darkness from her world.

Upon returning back to her home town she decides before she goes back to school the next day to sing in an open mic night and sing a song she wrote about her experiences of the past months, once she has sung she meets Elijah and boy who seems to evoke feelings she thought she could never feel again and starts to think she can live on. The next day she arrives to school and realises the new teacher is her Elijah and what will happen to their relationship and will it be able to continue with is position.

I did like elements of the story, I found that the character of Zoe although she had been through so much made me a little mad at times, maybe it was the age of the character but found it difficult to relate to some of her emotions within the story. That being said the story was well written and developed and had a lot to think about with the contents. I can not believe the initial meeting of the two of them that Elijah and Zoe did not feel the age difference within the language that they spoke to each other or actions.

This is a great story and I would like to read more stories within this series and more books by Carmen.

A 40 year old man, Adam, who has never been in love before, uses women for sex, and never anticipates having a relationship. Will he let his past dictate who his present self is?
Jules is a single woman looking to move her career along at a new agency. Can they overcome the obstacles that seem to be in the way? The characters are well rounded. I loved living in their world, if even for just a short time.

My Lips Are Sealed (Sealed With a Kiss #1)My Lips Are Sealed by Carmen Richter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My Lips are Sealed by Carmen Richter a fraught four-star read. This is number one in the Sealed with a Kiss series, and I am eager for number two to find out what happens next. I know some people will have issues with the ages of the characters and the fact that Zoe is as young as she is, but she is also mature for her age and reminded me a lot of myself at that age, I moved away to a different part of the country alone when I was only a few months older, so I think I had a perspective many wouldn’t about maturity at that age. The thing that blew me away with this story was how the author managed to keep you on your toes the whole story, it’s a long story and the pace and drama just kept going from strength to strength and leaving you needing to know more. This is a compelling story, and I would have loved to give it five-stars, but it was let down in a couple of places. I have to admit though I have very high hopes for the next part of the story.
