Reading the unravelling of this story was gripping, to say the least. The crime against Miss Sally is partially witnessed by Hen Trout, a 7-year-old boy with a preternatural wisdom and an old soul. He’s also a kid who likes pretending he’s a ninja, and is on a mission to find a hedgehog when he sees the violence in shadow relief. The plot unfolds like a swirling tornado, as details become clear, we learn more deeply about the nature of the characters in this story. Marcella tries desperately to hold her family together, even as her older son is blamed and her younger son is angry and confused. A great story, well-written, awesome characters, well-timed plot, definitely a must-read!

Jenna Harte reminded me how much I really love romantic, suspenseful mysteries! Death of a Coupon Queen was an absolute page turner. I couldn’t stop reading it and it had such an awesome ending!! Can’t give this book enough stars! Well done!

Boy on Hold A must – read psychological thriller By J.D. Spero ☆☆☆☆☆ This is a fully engrossing thriller. I could not put it down. This starts with elevated murder and the rollercoaster ride begins. Great story for YA and adults alike. Little 7 year old Hen knows what really happened. But will the adults take the time to listen to him? As Tyler is saying nothing to prove his innocence, many people have thought of their own ideas as to the truth. Will Tyler find a way out of this trouble? Who really did this and Why? Take a chance with this thriller. It is sure to keep you reading.
J.D Spero is an excellent writer. I have read many of her books and have enjoyed each and everyone. This story will not disappoint! The characters hold the secrets and only the truth will prevail. I love, love, loved this book! I really wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was but gosh was I surprised. I couldn’t put it down. I am a self-proclaimed “coupon queen” so this just made me laugh so much even though it’s a mystery. I have never read a book by this author before but apparently this is the second book in this series, so I am going to go back and read the previous book. Not that it is necessary to understand this book. It’s not. I just want to read it for the story. I found that the characters, especially the main character, are so relatable. I could envision so many of my friends and even some family members in their places. I highly recommend picking this book up to read. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
Sophie Parker is back, she is happily living with her Aunt, even if she is a bit gruff and likes things done her own way, she is working her two part time jobs and still going to her couponing club every week, other than that, she is getting to know her boyfriend between his trips away from town with his airplane repossessions. Just as she thinks that her life is moving forward and getting into a place where it could even improve, she goes to see one of the coupon queens in the group for some extra help and guidance when she turns up and the house is too quiet. As she goes round to the back door and tries to find the woman who lives there, she sees something in the house, so worried as she is when she doesn’t get an answer, she manages to get inside and proceeds to call 911 to report what she has found. When the local police turn up to interview her, she isn’t surprised to see a familiar face, just as they aren’t surprised it is her who has made the call.
As she explains what she found, which was her friend with her coupon shears poking out of her neck in a pool of blood, the police ask her if anything is missing from the house, after that has been dealt with, she is allowed to return home where she can hand her clothes over to the deputy who will escort her. All Sophie can thing about was the gruesome scene and what her aunt and boyfriend will say when she tells them what has happened, she doesn’t have to wait long to find out. As the case progresses, Sophie tries to maintain her normal life, however, in a small town, nothing stays quiet for long and trouble again, just seems to find her.
Will the police be able to find out who has killed the coupon queen and why, or will Sophie be drawn into trying to solve the mystery herself like last time? This is a small town mystery with more questions than answers throughout, there is intrigue, danger and a little romance along the way which will keep you hooked until you too find out the solution to the who, what, where and why.

This was a really fun story. I was gripped from the beginning until the end. I couldn’t put it down as I wanted to know who was responsible for the murder. There are so many twists and turns and suspects that when you think you have it figured out the author throws another curve ball and it all changes.
Sophie always seems to find herself in trouble. In the last book she was a suspect in a murder and in this book she returns as a witness to a murder.
When Sophie finds her friend Marla murdered in her home the hunt is on for the killer. However things aren’t straight forward and trouble comes knocking on Sophie door again. As Sophie plays detective to find out the truth she puts her own life in danger as she gets too close to the truth.
Can Sophie find out who the killer is before she becomes the next victim? Is the killer someone who is known to Sophie and to Marla? How do all the characters mix and fit together? And can Sophie stay out of trouble long enough to rebuild her life?
Death of a Coupon Queen is the second book in the Sophie Parker Mystery series by new-to-me author, Jenna Harte. I love a cozy mystery, so when I saw this pop up on my recommended book list, I one-clicked, no questions asked. What I found was a an intriguing, well written story, with endearing and somewhat quirky characters. I realised as I started reading, that this is the second book in the series- and even though it can be read as a standalone, I was intrigued by several references in the story which had happened previously (Book #1)- so I will definitely be going back and reading the first book before snapping up Book when it releases. So if you love a good cozy mystery, with clever touches, some drama, and action- then you will definitely want to grab yourself a copy of ‘Death of a Coupon Queen’. Happy reading!

While I don’t typically read books of this genre, I’m thankful that I gave Lake of Flowers a chance. N.L. Holmes did an excellent job of bringing the book to life by providing realistic details of the characters, setting, and era in which this story line takes place. Lord Hani is a wonderful character. I was instantly engaged in the story due to the banter between Hani and his family. I enjoyed reading about his family, travels, and the mystery that he must uncover in this installment of the Lord Hani Mysteries.

Lake of Flowers (The Lord Hani Mysteries Book 5) by N.L. Holmes. I’ve come to really enjoy these books. This genre is way outside my comfort zone but I took a chance and I haven’t regretted it yet. This is why one should always look to expand your horizons. This author keeps me completely hooked from start to finish. The characters are complex and truly bring this book to life. There’s so much this book has to offer within its pages. The main character truly takes readers on a journey looking for clues about what’s going on. It’s a well written storyline paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. If you’re looking for something new I highly recommend this author and this series. If you think it’s not your kind of reading I highly recommend you just taking the leap and giving it a try. Four big stars and highly recommended!

Death Of A Coupon Queen by Jenna Harte is a fun and entertaining story that I found to be highly amusing. Sophie is such a likeable character. I connected with her instantly and for me she made this whole book. I through the book itself was a quick and easy read. I didn’t find it to be too mysterious but I quite liked that about it. It felt like I engaged more with the whole book instead of just becoming invested in the whodunit side of things. This is a great book and I am pleased to see it is part of a series. I am looking forward to reading the next one.
I am one who loves anything of a mystery. People who know the real me know I am in fact a Sherlock Holmes at heart so when I came across this cozy mystery I just had to pick it up and see how the mystery unfolds!
Sophie the the lead in this book, was a wonderful character. She was very strong and I would dare say she could hold her own ground no matter what life throws at her. She is caught in this mystery we have before our hands, when there was a murder of her loving coupon club…which was also in her very own home! Questions arose. Why? how? when?
Sophie wanted answers and she was going to stop at nothing to get those answers. She was very much a girl with a “nothing will stop me now attitude” and strong willed and I loved how she pretty much lead the book. She didn’t back down even when things got really well trouble some or dangerous. She had a secret passion it seemed to get to the bottom of the truth, and to be honest she was rather good at getting the information as the book and plot continued! She truly was an admirable character and I love it when authors portray the skills a female can bring in these sort of situations 🙂
Sophie had to undergo a lot. There was a lot of characters and all seemed to basically be suspects. She had to go through a lot of stuff such as ambitions and could she absolutely trust them? But the main question was up in the air my dear friends, why did the murderer commit the crime? What did they seek to gain from this violent act?
As the story continued I will be honest, I was pretty sure who the murderer was, but what got me was the inner reason to why they did it. I was a bit surprised to that striking conclusion. Needless to say that was a good surprise. It made the book so much more complex and addictive. Though it already was right from the start for me!
All in all, really enjoyed reading this! And to my delight discovered its from a series, so I will defiantly be going back to read the others in the series. This book was great to sit in with my drink of hot coca and relax and get lost in the mystery beforehand!
Highly recommend, if your like me who is a sleuth at heart you will not be disappointed in the least. The author has a great writing method, the book was east to follow, very easy strokes to get to know the characters, and most defiantly very easy to get sucked into and turn those pages like your life depended on it!

Sophie Parker finds herself caught in the middle of a mystery after discovering her coupon group friend murdered in her home. After initially being cleared of being a suspect in the murder, Sophie keeps getting dragged into the mystery through unfortunate circumstances she finds herself in, whether it’s her own curiosity or kindness to others. Despite her best efforts to stay out of trouble, Sophie finds herself caught up in unraveling the mystery as she encounters a variety of potential suspects and risks losing her jobs and possibly her life.
I loved the way the author weaved the story around the quirky characters and totally left me guessing the motive and the murderer until the very end. I found it to be an entertaining whodunit with a bit of sweetness and sass mixed in. Sophie getting unwittingly caught in the cross-hairs of trouble despite her best efforts to stay out of it, along with her kindness and resilience, made her the quiet kind of heroine that doesn’t need false bravado or rescuing; this is my favorite kind of strength in lead female characters. Read this one without having read the first book, so I’m kind of excited to read more about Sophie Parker and the other characters, and looking forward to reading subsequent titles in the series.
This is a good book that just rolled along. At first I struggled to keep my attention then all if a sudden I couldn’t stop turning pages. The characters are plentiful and it kind of reads like a soap opera. Its small town living at its best.
Overall its a story that sneaks up and grabs you and doesn’t let go until the last page.

Death of a Coupon Queen by Jenna Harte is a fast-paced story that you are thrown into right from the word go and is your typical cozy mystery, but it was a fun read. The characters were a hoot. I did work out what was going on, but it was still nice to escape from reality and have some me time. So, if you feel like getting away from it all for a few hours grab a copy and a drink and settle in.
A quirky who-dunnit with a comedic edge. Very well written and easy to read with a FMC that will have you equal parts laughing and frustrated. This is the first book that I have read from this author and I didn’t realise going in that this was the second book in a series. There is enough backstory interwoven into this that I didn’t feel lost but I will definitely be going back and reading the first book. The little town is described perfectly that I could picture all the places and the mystery was not too predictable. Highly recommend this series.

I enjoyed this mystery story. This is a newer author for me and I look forward to seeing what is next for her. This is a well written story about Sophie and how she finds her mentor dead. She has everything going for her until this point. Now she is trying to find out who did this to her coupon mentor. I enjoyed how the characters bring the story to life. They made it fun and easy to read. It is a short story that is fast paced and pulled me in. This is a great story that I read in one sitting. I highly recommend this book.
This was my first book by this author but it will not be my last! I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish, it was entertaining, dramatic, mysterious and fun with never a dull moment. Right from the get go I was intrigued and captivated by the storyline and I couldn’t wait to figure out how everything played out. I loved how the author kept me on my toes the whole time, it made for a highly entertaining read.

Lake of Flowers is the fifth book in N.L. Holmes’ Lord Hani Mysteries series. By this point, the characters really feel like old friends and it’s so wonderful to catch up with them and hear how they’re coping in a turbulent world. I adore Holmes’ writing for how vividly she depicts ancient worlds. Her work is heavily influenced by archaeology and research so while it’s fiction the story follows the course of real historical events. What really makes it special for me, though, is the small details. What characters eat and wear, their physical characteristics, how they travel, that sort of thing. The multisensory depiction immerses the reader in the world, and familiar elements (beer, honey, even garlic which really surprised me and I had to look that one up to see if they really would have eaten it!) brought me closer to the past. Lake of Flowers begins with a tragic death that threatens to destabilise the kingdom’s political structure. Hani and his family and associates are all invested in the outcome of the inevitable unrest, and the mystery that deepens as the story progresses. Young Neferet plays a prominent role, with her position as a royal physician entangling her in the events of the book. She’s a fantastic character – funny, clever and independent. I would recommend reading this series from the beginning (Bird in a Snare) to get to know the characters and the setting. There are lots of names to remember but Holmes does a good job of reminding readers in text as well as including a character list to refer to. For me, this is a five-star read. I’d recommend it to fans of history and mystery! The series might also appeal to fans of high fantasy – although itself not fantasy, the setting and stories do at times remind me of fantasy books I’ve enjoyed with worlds based on history.

Lake of Flowers is the fifth book in The Lord Hani Mysteries by N.L. Holmes. I highly recommend reading the first four books to see what else Hani has been investigating. Being this is a historical mystery, I was excited to start reading that we were in Ancient Egypt. Egypt has an amazing history with the artifacts and the mystery surrounding it in present times. The details N.L. Holmes gives the reader paints a picture of what she wants the reader to see. The characters are fully developed and easily form a bond with them. I love Hani. He is very relatable and I enjoy our mysteries together. This time Hani finds himself in a tight corner. He is trapped between the government or revolutionaries. What will Hani uncover? Will he be able to restore some peace? You will have to read this book to find out about Hani and his story.

The issue of a baby swap comes to light as witnesses of this occurrence are turning up dead. Someone is after his daughter Neferet and her friend who are physicians of the king’s ladies. Caught between the kingdom’s politics and his own desire for the kingdom to return to Amen-Ra, Hani must solve all the mysteries to restore some truths to his life and lessen his anxiety over his daughter’s welfare. Can he solve them all before it’s too late?
Although this book is a part of a series, I have not read any of the previous books. The story still intrigued me with its complicated mystery plot.

I expected to find a well-written mystery and I was not disappointed! As with the previous book I read by N. L. Holmes, I enjoyed this mystery set in ancient Egypt, a period I have found interesting but don’t know a lot about it. This story includes family, love, murder, tests of loyalty, danger, hierarchical society, and even rumors of royal scandals. I enjoyed the setting and food descriptions and loved exploring a time period so different from our own. I have not read the previous books in the series (and don’t feel that it hindered me at all) but may find time to go back and check them out, as well! I had suspicions of who was doing what and was surprised to find that I had them all wrong! Next time, I’ll pay more attention and see if I can solve it before the end.

Lake of Flowers by N.L. Holmes a fantastic five-star read. This is number five in the Lord Hani Mysteries and we follow Hani on his journey, you don’t have to read them in order as they all focus on a different main story, and just follow Hani as he creates and solves mysteries, that always makes writing reviews for this series difficult, as I never know what to say without spoiling the mystery and the drama, as the author has a great way of keeping that tension level high and keeping you guessing. If you like a good mystery, then you need to pick this series up.

This story is set in ancient Egypt, and once again, the author does a fantastic job with details to the period. Turns out, it is not just a one-time incident – more midwives are coming up dead. Could they all be related to the recent Prince’s birth?

Lake of Flowers by N. L. Holmes is the fifth book in The Lord Hani Mysteries. The story takes place in ancient Egypt. What gets me every time with this series is the descriptions of the area and the times when Pharaohs ruled Egypt. It really helps you feel like you are there in person. As in the previous books of the series, Lord Hani is being tasked with finding out why suspicious things keep happening in the royal household. As Lord Hani is researching these minor crimes he wonders if they are somehow connected. With this series, it really helps if you read the books in order. The names and areas which are well researched by the author, it can get confusing with all the different names. The glossary is a huge help.

This is the 5th book in The Lord Hani Mysteries Series. I’ve loved these book from the very first one. Each one is captivating and the author does an amazing job of transporting you back to Ancient Egyptian times. The author’s knowledge of Ancient Egypt, the relationships between the people and their gods and how they all link together is what really makes this story come alive for me. I love anything to do with Ancient Egypt and the detail and how accurate the author is really makes these books stand out for me.
Lord Hani is back and things are changing fast. Lord Hani is hired to find out who is behind the thefts that are happening in from the Royal household. However these aren’t normal thefts and could be connected to an attempt on the King’s life.
At the same time there are revolutionaries who are looking to restore things to the way they were. As they grow in number Hani finds himself draw towards them and treads a fine line between serving his King and plotting against him.
It is a step back into a complicated time where things aren’t always what they seem and there are always more secrets and lies than first expected.

Lake of Flowers by N.L. Holmes is the fifth book in The Lord Hani Mysteries series. I recommend reading these because it helps to understand the characters and the story elements that continue from book to book. This book features a more complex series of events that ties with Hani. He is such a loyal man, and he is being forced to pick sides. I really enjoy the historical elements and how the author works a mystery and sleuthing into ancient Egypt. Also, I have enjoyed the interactions between the characters. There is always complexity in relationships when government, religion, and personal relationships merge and weave together. I look forward to reading more in this series soon.

I have now been following Hani, an Egyptian Diplomat from book one and I always look forward to a new story and I am never disappointed. Each book can be read as a standalone story, however I feel that the reader will enjoy the novels more if they are read in order. This story is set in ancient Egypt, around the seventeenth and final year of Akh-en-aten’s reign, which is about 1338 BCE. Hani makes a great main character as he is well defined and is both relatable and likeable and he really helps brings the plot together. Due to the authors wonderfully descriptive narrative I always feel engaged with Hani and immersed in his world, so much so that I feel I am solving the mystery alongside him.
This time Hani is investigating thefts from the household of the king which on closer inspection appear to be related to a sinister attempt on the kings life. Alongside the main mystery Hani is worried for his daughter who was present at the crown prince’s birth as those present begin to die as secrets emerge about the princes identity. Hani is caught between the government and the radical revolutionaries who would like to restore Amen-Ra by civil war. This unfortunately involves the Queen, who Hani has sworn to serve. As usual this is a complex historical crime mystery story with an action packed plot which had me hooked from start to finish. The twists and turns kept me guessing and I enjoyed figuring out the mystery elements of the storyline alongside Lord Hani.
There are a lot of characters mentioned which can be confusing but the list of characters at the beginning of the book is very helpful and I found it interesting to know which characters were based on a real person and those who are fictional. The authors knowledge and research shines through in her writing and I found the historical notes particularly fascinating along with the glossary of terms. I continue to enjoy ‘The Lord Hani Mysteries’ series and I look forward to book number six, hopefully!

Lake of Flowers is the fifth in the Lord Hani series. It is the first novel I have read by this author and can be read as a standalone. NL Holmes has done an excellent job of setting the story in ancient Egypt, I could feel the heat and environment that the characters were experiencing. I struggled a little with the general conversation used by characters and felt that it perhaps didn’t fit the time. Otherwise, the novel is very well written and researched. I also intend to read more of this series as it now has me intrigued!
