My first story by Becki Willis has been time well spent! This story is well written, funny and interesting! Chicken Scratch is an original mystery. My only complaint is that I wish the romance between Brash and Madison would have developed into more…maybe that just means there will be another story in the Sisters series. (Fingers crossed!)
The characters in this story get into a little mischief, but when solving a murder that can happen. The story behind the towns that make up the setting for this story, which I loved, is rather original. Chicken Scratch also includes danger, friendship and enough information about chickens houses than I thought I would ever know! I am looking forward to what other stories Willis comes up with.

Oh my goodness, where has this author been all my life? I was so enthralled with this book that i got nothing done around my house once I started. I love a good mystery and I had my finger pointed to 2 different people for who did it, and while one of them was right, it still took me by surprise as to how and why and what else followed. I loved seeing the main characters struggle and her life in general but also she wasn’t just a damsel in distress she took action and kept on going. This has a small undercurrent of a budding attraction but the main story is the murder and I liked the break from reality this gave me. Will be reading more!

Chicken Scratch (The Sisters, Texas Mystery Series Book 1) by Becki Willis is a thrilling mystery romance that you will keep turning page after page to get to the end. Who needs sleep? I have not read any of Becki’s work and I am truly impressed. The plot is superb, the pace just right, the characters are unique and a little quirky and lots of suspense to enjoy this tale to its fullest.
Maddison’s husband left her in a mess and having no choice returned to her hometown and into the arms of her grandmother with her twins in tow. To her surprise she discovers a body on her first day at a new job. Will she continue or has she put not only herself in danger but the rest of her family as well?
This is one of the best stories in this genre I have read this year and I absolutely can’t wait to get my hands on the next instalment.

5-Stars
Chicken Scratch (The Sisters, Texas Mystery Series Book 1) by Becki Willis was an excellent mystery suspense novel. It was immediately addicting with the opening chapter of main character Madison finding a body in a chicken house. I can imagine how terrible the smell was and felt the author did an awesome job depicting the scene. Over all the author did excellent with the various detail involved in the setting making it easy for readers to visualize as they read. I loved that it is based in Texas and that I also share a first name with one of the main characters. Brash, Madi, and all other characters were developed and depicted well. This was such an excellent read. I highly recommend it!

Chicken Scratch by Becki Willis is the first book in the Sisters Texas Mystery Series. This book is an easy read that will keep you turning the pages. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I can definitely say I enjoyed it. I liked the fact that it wasn’t overly complex and as easy enough to follow along with. The characters were interesting and I found myself connecting with them quite quickly. The story progressed well – it wasn’t he lost exciting but it certainly kept me reading to find out who the killer was. As the first read by this author it was a nice gentle introduction and I can certainly say I will be reading more by her in the future.

Chicken Scratch is the first book in The Sister, Texas Mystery series by Becki Willis. It is such a great cosy mystery- and also my introduction to Ms. Willis’ work. I really enjoyed this story, it was such a fun read- well woven, with a fantastic plot, a great pace, interesting and quirky characters, well-developed suspense, originality, lively action and antics, and witty humour. Madison Reynolds returns to her hometown after losing everything. Her husband. Their business. Her home. Her friends. And her savings. She had nowhere else to turn, so she packed up her twins and moved in with her 80 year old grandmother- till she can get back on her feet. She decides to start a temp business- doing whatever she needs to pay the bills. Her first real job involves working at a poultry farm, not her ideal choice of work- but beggars can’t be choosers. Her first day was going quite well- till she discovers a dead body. The body of the man who hired her. And so, this story begins. When it’s discovered that the man had been murdered, an arrest is made. But then Madison gets an unexpected call from the accused man’s mother, pleading with Madison to investigate the murder and clear her sons name. Maddy knows she’s no PI, but she can’t afford to be turning away paying jobs- so she agrees. What happens when someone seems to have it out for Maddy? Is she getting too close to the truth? With several dangerous situations that threaten her life- Maddy will need to put the pieces together and figure it all out, before it’s too late. Who killed the chicken farmer and why? All these answers and other intriguing details can be found by reading this fun mystery. So, grab yourself a copy and dive in! This may be my first read from Ms. Willis- but it certainly won’t be my last! I can’t wait to explore more of her work!

This is my first book by this author. It is a suspense book that brings everything that I enjoy in this type of book. This book pulled me in from the beginning and it was engaging. The characters made me feel as if I was part of the story. Madison has found herself with no money and a widow to boot. She packs her daughter up and they move back home with her mother. What will happen when her small business brings more than income to her life? Great characters. I highly recommend this book.

Chicken Scratch (The Sisters, Texas Mystery Series Book 1) By: Becki Willis 5 out of 5 stars
The story Chicken Scratch (The Sisters, Texas Mystery Series Book 1) by Becki Willis is a wonderful mystery book. It pulls you in from the beginning and does let you go until the end. I found that the story has a good pace and will have you searching for answers with Madison. I so enjoyed reading about Madison. She is intelligent and resourceful. She finds herself living with her grandmother and trying to build a business called “In a Pinch Temporary Services. Her life soon becomes complicated as she finds the dead body of a client, hired to clear a suspect’s name, and dealing with her teenage twins. Oh, and there is that handsome and attractive police chief who she had a crush on in high school. Is the death of her first client an accident or something more? Read this book to find out. I loved that this book had a small-town setting. I come from a smaller farm community and have found that when I come home my actions have already been reported. There is small-town gossip that made me smile as I was reading. There are many additional characters that are introduced and have their own part to play in the story. Some of them are more helpful than others and then you have the ones that their only concern is themselves. Don’t miss out on a book that is well-written, detailed, and has some wonderful characters. I highly recommend it.

A great read about mystery. Sorrel James is a photographer just wanting to take some pictures of some geese with a friend. When her friend doesn’t show up, she begins to get suspicious. With police officer Reed, she starts to investigate. Can they find John before it’s too late? A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns. Well developed characters like Sorrel stubborn but kind underneath or Reed determined but caring underneath. I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like the snow white birds against the vibrant sunrise bold and beautiful and magical. Or the geese flying off with its sounds so vivid its as if you’re actually there and for a sense of wonder. The use of suspense was drawn out to perfection with a sense of mystery from the start and events revealed slowly to make you keep reading to find out what happened. I also liked John with his little habits like the decorations and the closed shop, small details creating a sense of unease. Overall, a great read and I would give it four stars

Blood Relations is the second book in “The Sorrel Janes Mysteries’ series by Lonna Enox. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Enox, so I really didn’t know what to expect going into the story- but lets face it, I love a good mystery and that’s what I was hoping to find when I grabbed myself a copy of this book. What I found was a cosy mystery- detailed and descriptive, with all the ingredients needed to make it a captivating read as there was just the right amount of suspense, drama, and intrigue. Ms. Enox packs a lot into her story- there is quite a lot happening with lots to ‘uncover’. I enjoyed meeting the characters who added quite a lot of personality to the story. Sorrel is very independent, with a strong sassy streak. She’s quite the investigator, too. Add Det. Chris Reed to the mix, and the ‘case’ gets quite interesting. I will definitely be going back to read book one, before jumping into the third book. What will Sorrel gets up to next?

She’s determined to find her friend John when he doesn’t show up to there planned meeting spot. Chris has feelings for Sorrel. She finds him attractive as well but is cautious about her emotions. Will these two find John? Find out what happens next in this must read book. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

I give Blood Relations by Lonna Enox, 5 stars. **This review may contain spoilers from book one in the series.**
Sorrel is now settled and happy in the small town of Saddle Gap. Her business is open and she has a good set of friends to depend on. Her mentor, John, tells her of a festival that would be perfect for photographers like they are, and she lets herself be talked into it, agreeing to meet him there. But he isn’t there when she arrives. She is not worried at first, but as time passes, she gets a bad feeling. What does she find instead? A dead body in a preservation area. Can Sorrel and Reed figure out what happened to John? Not to mention, who is the dead body? Sorrel feels compelled to search for answers, but things are never as they seem…
I loved book one and was so happy to read another in the series. The first book was great and I loved the characters. This book did not disappoint in the slightest. In fact, I finished it in one night! The whodunit part of books are always my favorite. I love to be kept guessing and I had no idea how this one was going to end. Then there Sorrel and Reed. These are two stubborn people who have difficulty trusting others. But at the same time, they work great together. Then of course there are the secondary characters. I’m so happy they are back, I love them! Oh and did I mention another cat! That right there is the cherry on top. Not to mention that she tells the cats they’re in charge any time she leaves. Such a cat mom thing right there!
I digress. If you like cozy mysteries with lots of action and some parts that just make you laugh, this book is for you. It can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading book 1 first since they are both incredible.

Blood Relations by Lonna Enox is the second book of the Sorrel Jane’s Mysteries series.
Sorrel has been through so much since she left Houston and started her life over in Saddle Gap, which you can read about in the first book. They adventures continue in this book and I have a feeling there will be more in the future.
Sorrel and Reed have quite an intriguing and complicated relationship. I have my hopes about them and looking forward to the next book to see if there is any chance I’m right.
This series isn’t one I would searched for on my own, but I saw the synopsis and decided to give it a try and I’m so gl a’s d I did. I love these characters and looking forward to the next book.

This continues the story of Sorrel and her new friends in Saddle Gap. Things are going well for her, her shop is doing great and life is good. Until she goes to meet John (who is like a father to her). They were supposed to meet for a week of photography but John doesnt arrive. Sorrel knows something is wrong as John would never just not turn up.
So with the help of Reed they embark on a journey of secrets, deceptions and lies to find out what happened to John and why.
I loved this story. It is full of twists and turns you don’t see coming and the characters are so well written you cant help but feel their emotions.
This was a brilliant read my eyes were glued to the page’s I just couldn’t pull them away. I love how there is so many twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat and eager to turn the page’s and read more!! The journey was incredible and I can’t wait to read more from this author the story was engaging and brilliantly written.
Blood Relations is the followup to The Last Dance by Lonna Enox. I loved the book, but found it pretty complex. There is a lot going on, and you aren’t quite sure how it all fits together. After finishing it, I almost need to read it again to understand how it all works together. I love how well Enox write mysteries. You truly don’t know how everything is tied together or will end until the very end. The book didn’t end the way I wanted it to, but it still was very good! The end made me tear up a bit, as its very sweet. The main characters Sorrel and Reed have a love hate relationship and I love seeing their relationship grow. This could probably be read as a stand alone, but I don’t recommend skipping the first book. The characters and setting and whole dynamic is laid out in the first book. Highly recommend both to anyone who loves a good mystery without the gore.

**** BLOOD RELATIONS is the second book in the Sorrel Janes’ cozy mystery series. The author does an amazing job of filling in any blank spots through the use of storytelling and flashbacks.
The writing is dynamic and I was fully engaged in the story from beginning to end. There were times that I got bogged down by too much description, but when that sentence or paragraph finished up, I had a beautiful vision or what was actually going on.
This is one of those series that has a timeless storyline and could go on for many more books. I will be reading them all.
Blood Relations by Lonna Enox is the second book of the series following The Last Dance. This book is a suspenseful mystery.
Sorrel is so strong and independent. She very much embodies a strong lead character. She has planned to meet her friend John and a predetermined meeting location. However, when he doesn’t show up she worries. It feels like something is wrong. Chris helps Sorrel investigate John’s disappearance. She knows he has feelings for her and she thinks she feels the same but is overly cautious with her feelings. While Chris and Sorrel search for John, strange things keep happening but they can’t turn away. Will they find out what happened to John? Will they get to explore their feelings for each other?
This book really pulls the reader in and you get so sucked in you can’t wait to find out what happens. I absolutely recommend this book.

5-Stars
Blood Relations (The Sorrel Janes Mysteries) by Lonna Enox was an excellent mystery novel. I loved how this book began with Sorrel pursuing her love of photography by visiting a wildlife refuge. Trouble always seems to follow her though. I loved that Reed was still a huge part of the story. I love Reed and Sorrel together. I also like that they are able to put their issues aside at times to focus on the task at hand, such as Sorrel’s friend John. This book was full of excitement and mystery. I love how this author always pulls me in and that her storyline is easy to follow. She is also descriptive with her settings and provides excellent character development. I highly recommend this book and the series!

Blood Relations (The Sorrel Janes Mysteries) by Lonna Enox
5 Stars
I read this in one sitting and was so totally invested that real life just paused while I read. I loved The Last Dance which was my first introduction to this author and this one solidified my adding her to my one click list and being a forever fan.
So this book picks up just a bit after The Last Dance, Sorrel has become one of my favorite characters and I truly want her as my friend 🙂 Chris makes me want to slap him as hard as Sorrel does most of the time. I love her love/hate relationship with him and their back and forth is completely awesome. I also love that the author keeps us guessing about those two.
The storyline of this book had me a mess through most of it, I was guessing a lot and was usually proved wrong and I was as confused as Chris and Sorrel were. This one had a lot going on and had a lot of moving parts at all times and those are the kind of books I can not put down. There were a lot of emotions throughout and I recommend highly reading the first book before this one as it follows the story of these characters.
I can not wait to see where she takes this story next and can already tell I’ll be rereading these in the future.
Blood Relations by Lonna Enox was a pretty okay read, it was mystery, murder, suspense, and romance. It kept me reading and engaged.
This book takes on a new adventure, but I will say compared to the first book, this one was a little, mixed. I feel like the author was trying to do a little too much, with all the mystery, murder and kidnapping.. the components were well executed but for me, as a whole story, it did fall a little short. I think if a few elements were taken out, and the plot had a more pin point focus, then this book would have shined that much more. I did fine the MC’s a little immature surrounding the seriousness of the plot, so that threw me as well. I get where the author was going, but I think the timing was off.
The overall story, was pretty good. I like the mystery, I liked the flow, and the piecing the clues together and the nail biting suspense. There is a lot of good in this book, and it was that perfect lazy day read that kept me intrigued and flipping the pages. So even though I had some issues with this book, it is worth your time, and it will keep you fully engaged and entertained.
So please take my high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that you not see the ending coming.
This mystery enthralled me from start to finish. The second in the series, I felt it was a solid piece that can stand well on its own but it has a depth available best if read in series order. Enox is a very gifted writer and I am certainly pleased to have found her stories. Great characters and plot. A mystery worth reading more than once.
So the background setting for this book was a struggle for me, but having read the first book of the Sorrel Janes Mysteries I knew that I wanted to see what would come next in her storyline. I am glad that I did. Don’t be discouraged by the blandness of the trip Sorrel is embarking on because Lonna Enox has a whole bunch of twists and turns that will be sure to leave you breathless by the time you are done! This time Sorrel and her detective hottie boyfriend, Chris Reed embark on a murder investigations that if full of ups and downs, mystery, intrigue, and plenty of drama to boot. I was never at a lull while reading and I adored the way everything came to a culmination. I for sure will be back to find out what else will come of Sorrel Janes! I am sure it will be an adventure I adore!
Blood Relations is the 2nd book in the Sorrel Janes Mysteries series by Lonna Enox. The first book in the series The Last Dance was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it, so was looking forward to reading this. I have to say that I enjoyed this book even more than this first one. This book had me gripped straight away and kept me gripped throughout. Lonna Enox sure knows how to keep the reader gripped and, at times, on the edge of their seat. There is so much mystery and intrigue in this story. In this story Sorrel once again teams up with Chris Reed to investigate the disappearance of her good friend John, who failed to turn up to meet her at a photography meet. Added to that, when Sorrel was taking a photograph at the meet she saw a dead body in the distance. This was only the start of all the twists and turns that this book takes. I really love the characters Sorrel and Chris. Sorrel is an independent woman who is not afraid to speak her mind. Chris just loves teasing her as much as possible, he’s incorrigible. We also discover in this book that there is so much more to Chris’ character. I have really enjoyed the first two books in this series and I really hope that Lonna Enox writes many more.
