Having to quarantine for two weeks is a lonely ordeal so one colleague tells another that he is staying with her and her kids. A shocking story being revealed is a good therapeutic distraction for Debbie while her mother struggles with Covid while it stirs up distant suppressed memories for Gary. The stories he reveals gives her greater insight into his past actions when times got tough. This book is well written and keeps you engaged with the stories Gary reveals during younger years in his life. This book is number three of the series but is a good read standalone.

Gunner is the third book in the Hollins & Haring Series by T.J. Beach. The book takes place during the COVID outbreak which forces Gary and Debbie to quarantine together. During this time, Gary takes Debbie on an adventure into his past. His past is not pretty, but it is filled with action that helps Debbie take her mind off of her mother who is struggling with her COVID battle. Beach does a great job of weaving the action into the story and gives breaks to the action in a manner that builds suspense and intrigue about Gary’s past. This series reminds me of old spy movies, and in my opinion, makes a great action-packed movie. Gunner is the perfect book for anyone wanting an action-packed read!

This book brings a little bit of everything. Action, romance, hope, and more. This is the third installment in the series and although I didn’t read the first two, the was a great tale into Gary Hollins previous life and what brought him to Australia. The descriptions in this made me feel like I was in each scene. I had no confusion going back and forth between current times and the past and I felt like inwas Debbie, sitting on the back deck, listening to Gary’s stories. I plan on reading the first two and hope there is a book four in the works.

Gunner is book number three in the Hollins and Haring series about two private detectives, Debbie, and Gary, although we find out pretty quickly that Gary is not his actual name, and he has a dark, shocking past that he hasn’t ever shared with anyone. When Covid begins to rear it’s ugly head in Australia and Debbie’s mom becomes incredibly I’ll and the family’s ends up having to quarantine. Over the next two weeks Gary begins to share his story with Debbie as a way to distract her and keep her from spiraling into despair and depression. Once I started I was drawn into the modern day story as much as I was the story of Gary’s past. The tone, descriptive language, and the anecdotes used throughout the book, such as “taking the piss” I thought were cool as I had never heard phrases like that and it held my interest throughout. I didn’t really know what to expect, other than some form of military story and I was pleasantly surprised with the book. I didn’t think I would become as invested as I did but I started to find myself wanting to know what happened next along with Debbie. I did find myself wondering why everyone was so hard on Gary/Simon, both sets of parents, I understood Trish’s fear, stress, and curiosity when she thought Gary was lying but as a military wife with a military family they had unrealistic expectations. One cannot simply drop everything and ‘be’ there, or come home immediately, unless their is dire circumstances no matter how much they might want to. Granted I do understand he was ‘supposed’ to be on leave or sorts at some points even if he was sometimes lying. E14 really took advantage of him and I was kind of outraged for him then too. Overall, I did really enjoy this book/series and would be interested in reading more by this author.

Gary and Debbie are about to spend a lot of time together. COVID has struck and Debbie’s mom had it so 14 days isolation it is for everyone. Since Gary lives alone, Debbie insists that he quarantine with her and her kids.
To pass the time, Gary delves into his past to a time where he was the yes man for the military. After being kicked from the SAS, he is met by a shady guy who worked for the government and they hired him to tail a group of neo-nazi terrorists.
He had to do a lot of bad things to keep up the facade of neo-nazi, meanwhile his girlfriend is pregnant and suspicious of his activities. Reliving his past is killing him inside as he made so many mistakes but he would do anything to distract his good friend from her sick mother.
The book jumps back and forth from the present to the past but it’s easy to follow along. Even though it is the 3rd book of the series, it was fine as a stand alone since it’s Gary’s prequel in a way.
It was very well written and I loved the characters but it just wasn’t my thing.
Gunner is the third book in the Hollins & Haring series, but I read it as a standalone. I don’t think you’ll get lost in it without the others, but after reading this one I’m definitely picking up the rest of the series.
Gary and Debbie work together and seem to get along well enough. She has a feeling that Gary has a lot that he isn’t facing in his life, but he is a master at avoidance. But all is not well when the inevitable happens. Debbie’s mother is the first person in their town to test positive for COVID, and now Gary is there with her family in quarantine. Debbie is anxious and isn’t sure what to do since her husband, who is her strength, is far away working. Gary decides he’s going to distract her with what she wants to know…his sad story. Speaking this out loud may help Debbie, but it’s making Gary face his demons that he’d rather run from.
This was an incredibly emotional read, and I couldn’t put it down once I started. I highly recommend picking this up, and I’m headed to pick up the rest of the series now because this author has a way of grabbing your attention and keeping it!

A real page turner of a novel, which kept me gripped throughout the story. Gary Hollins only works when Debbie Haring nags him, and he remains a mystery to her. Having had private detective assignments turn bad before, Debbie knows that there is no one better than Gary to have by your side. However, Gary never talks about where he learnt his deadly skills, and he’s happy to waste his days in a West Australian beachside caravan park, with a cheap beer, far away from his past in England. When Debbie’s world collapses, Gary reluctantly distracts t her by telling her his story. Debbie’s Mum is the first local of Bell’s Landing to test positive for the COVID virus, which is sweeping the globe. To make matters worse Debbie is stuck in quarantine alongside Gary, with her kids, whilst her husband Matt is away on a mine site. As Gary’s story unfolds, Debbie learns that he was cut from SAS recruitment just short of graduation, and then a fringe-government organisation made him an offer, if he could infiltrate a neo-Nazi hate group, they would give him a second chance at special forces wings. Gary was ordered to take part in increasingly violent attacks, whilst being plagued with doubts about his less than above board handlers. Meanwhile he was having to tell his pregnant girlfriend lies. As Debbie’s Mum deteriorates, Gary is forced to face his demons which drove him away from his own family. This crime, mystery thriller was at times heartbreaking to read, and it took me on an emotional rollercoaster. The Covid storyline made it feel very real and relatable. The characters are great and I felt engaged with both Debbie and Gary, whilst the settings in both Australia and London were brought to life by the descriptive narrative. Although part of a series, I happily read it as a standalone story.

I really enjoyed this book. This is a new to me author and I really liked her writing style, I found it to be really engaging and my interest was definitely kept from beginning to end. I love historical reads and a do love a good murder mystery so thought I would give this book a go and I’m so glad I did. Daniel was a great character to read about – I really liked him. The time period and setting for the story was really great, I’ve not read many historical novels set in New York. Overall this was a gripping read and one that I would highly recommend to other readers who enjoy a good murder mystery!

This was such a great read – I can’t’ believe I haven’t found this series before. This is the third book in the series however I read it perfectly well as a standalone however I think I’ll definitely be looking to read the first two books now. I liked that there were current themes in the story that made it relatable to me as a reader. It was really well written and certainly grabbed my attention. The characters were interesting to read about and really well developed. The story had a lot of action going on and my interest was held from beginning to end. The author had a really great writing style that I found engaging. I would absolutely recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this new to me author!

I didn’t realize that this was the third book in the series, but that never stops me from reading a book. And honestly, I was excited that I did keep reading without reading the first books, because this book was amazing without them. it can be read as a stand-alone book in the series. I wish I could comment on the other two books to say whether this one was just as good and you don’t want to miss reading the others, but sadly at this moment I cannot. I do feel if I had the chance to read the first two, I would have a deeper in depth on the characters, and who they are as a person. But this book was gripping and exciting on its own. This thriller of a story had me gripping the edge of my seat, it opened the door up of what the main character had gone thou in his past, the telling of these stories was compelling, and I wanted more. Going from past to present was very easy to follow and I didn’t feel like I was missing anything when it would switch back and forth. I really enjoyed this book; I really can’t wait to see if there will be more with this series.

Gary has a past, but Debbie does not know all the details of it. While Gary is visiting Debbie and her family, they find out that Debbie’s mom has been exposed to the Coronavirus. Unfortunately, her mom tests positive, and everyone else is negative. Debbie’s mom leaves them all to quarantine together to keep them safe. When her mom takes a turn for the worse, Gary decides to distract Debbie by telling her his story of how he came to be in Australia working with her. As she learns his truth, can she look at him the same? Can she still trust him? Will her mom pull through so she can say all the things that are left to say?
This was a quite a read. The author did a fantastic job of intertwining the two stories together. The characters were realistic and relatable. I could feel their emotions as they were going through their separate struggles. The end of the book leaves you wanting to know more about what happens next because while it is somewhat a closed story of Gary, he opens up part of his past in the end. I look forward to finding out what transpires next!

This is the first book I read from this author. I loved it! This is book 3 of 3, but could be easily read alone. The characters are fantastic. There are a few different story lines, but still easy to follow each story. The ending ended on a cliffhanger, so I’m eager to see if the author is going to release another book.

WOW! This was my first read by Dreena Collins, and the book And Then She Fell did not disappoint one bit! After reading the first chapter, I knew I’d be hooked. The thought of multiple potential stories that were told throughout the book really drew me in, as well as the title of the book itself.
Catherine’s daughter Susie fell to her death in an accident in Crete. Nothing about the “accident” has ever felt right Catherine, so Catherine decides to take a trip Crete herself and see if anyone can remember anything that may help her “solve the case”. To Catherine, this wasn’t just about solving the case, but it was about trying to gain some type of closure. After gathering some information from speaking to several employees of the different areas in Crete, Catherine figured she had enough courage to approach Susie’s friends and boyfriend to help her try to piece together what could have happened. Catherine soon comes to realize that she truly didn’t know who her daughter Susie really was!
The 10 possibilities of known scenarios coming together of what might have happened and who Susie really was, had a unique approach. I found each scenario to be affecting my opinions on who could possibly be responsible to the “accident” that happened to Susie. Each scenario was well written suggestions of what possibly happened to Susie, and to say that I was surprised by the ending is a definite understatement! I was lost in the rabbit hole of possibilities from start to finish.

Road to the Mansfield is the first book in the Express Investigations Series and is a suspenseful read that one you start reading there’s no stopping until you finish. This is a new author to me but I must say im a fan already. This is one of those books that will have you turning the pages while on the edge of your seat trying to put all the pieces together. This authors style of writing along with their characters make for a wonderful story. This is about three different people and three different stories but one fateful night there worlds collide and no one saw it coming. This is a fast paced story where there’s alot going on but this author did a wonderful job bring everything together . I’m not going to give anything away but I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t hardly wait to get my hands on the next book in this series. I look forward to reading many more books by this author.

And Then She Fell is such a roller coaster of emotions and stories. This book had me captured from the very beginning, and I almost read it in one sitting. Catherine lost her daughter, Susie, to a falling accident in Crete. Something didn’t feel right about this “accident” so Catherine begins investigating, eventually questioning her daughter’s friends and boyfriend. As she begins to piece together all of the information, she slowly realizes she did not know her daughter at all. Was she living a secret life? Was she blinded by “motherly love” or lack of attention? It is an emotional and winding path, as she searches for the answers to the loss of her daughter. I have never read anything like this, and I hope I can find others that make me really think like this one did. It brought up a sort of “13 Reasons Why” feel, at times, with all of the stories that change and make you change your idea of “whodunit”. I categorize And Then She Fell as an intense and immersive psychological thriller that you will not want to put down.

This is book 3 in the series . What I’m about to say is not critique but my personal opinion, I think it’s because I’m book greedy 📕❣️😉 I didn’t feel lost but I had a few questions when I got to after halfway so if you’re greedy like me read the first 2 but it’s definitely not a deal breaker and Gunner earns every 🌟 it’s gets when reviewed !
This read felt so real because the effects and it’s shocking aftermath of Coronavirus is still so very raw and fresh so you really feel this read .
I must compliment TJ Beach on the splash of humour is does relieve the tension a bit 😉❣️
Gary is a bit of a closed book and his new boss Debbie is very curious as to who and what this man is . She befriends him and he comes a part of her life and family so when her mum tests positive for coronavirus and they all have to go into quarantine , Gary included things become very real for all of them especially Gary and we all get to learn so much more about the characters , as I said very relatable.

And Then She Fell is an emotional and captivating story. A year on from her daughter’s tragic death, Catherine is convinced there’s more to the story. As she probes, following in her daughter’s footsteps and talking to the people she knew, Catherine learns a lot about Susie, with plenty of surprises.
This book is a real page-turner. At the start, you think you’ve got a good idea what happened. But like Catherine, everything you learn unravels the story more. Is Catherine merely overanalysing a simple, tragic accident? Is she being protected from things Susie didn’t want her to know, or are people hiding the truth from her?
The first person narration is effective here – the story is told as Catherine talking to Susie, so we already know she is shaping the narrative to what she would want Susie to know and think. And interspersed are retellings of the moments leading up to Susie’s death, each presented in third person and as if this one must be the truth, but each undermined by the next.
This is a five star book for me! I couldn’t put it down, I was squeezing in a chapter on the bus to try and find out what would happen next. I’d recommend it to fans of mysteries and psychological thrillers!

This book was intriguing from the very beginning. I could not put it down. I kept pushing on trying to find out if there was something sinister to Susie’s fall or if it was as simple as the official story, she was drunk and fell.
We follow Catherine as she tries to find the true story of her daughter’s death while also trying to cope with said death. She feels as if the official story is not true since Susie wasn’t much of a drinker. Catherine thinks she knows her daughter best but as more and more stories of Susie emerge, she doesn’t know what to think anymore. Catherine starts getting paranoid about everyone in Susie’s life, especially Susie’s boyfriend at the time. As the story progresses there are 10 different scenarios that Catherine thinks happened but which one is the truth?
The book was written like it was a journal that Catherine wrote specifically to Susie. I found myself going through a slew of different emotions with this read. I highly recommend this book!

And Then She Fell by Dreena Collins is a book about a mother, Catherine Keely, who is determined to find the truth about her daughter Susie’s death. Her daughter died on a trip to Greece at age 26, and Catherine’s grief was not ebbing. She sets out to try to put together the pieces of what really happened. As she meets with those who accompanied Susie on her trip, and residents who may have seen her during her stay, it does not take long for Catherine to realize that Susie had secrets she was withholding. This story was an intense read for me. I never want to know the pain and grief that weighed upon Catherine. Losing a child is the biggest fear of any loving parent. The author did such a wonderful job conveying that devastating pain to me as a reader. It was so raw and unwavering. I could not have guessed the story would end as it did! This is definitely a psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat and guessing through the whole book.
The author takes a different approach and gives you different scenarios on how Susie fell to her death.
Susie’s mother, Catherine, doesn’t feel right about this being an ‘accident’, so she sets off to investigate. Through the questions that she asks, she realizes that her daughter had been changing within the last 2 years and she didn’t even notice. Now she’s piecing everything together.

The story of Jorja and her being head of the Special Crimes Unit was thrilling and exciting. I didn’t know this was book 5 in a series, but I wasn’t missing anything from not reading the previous books. Although, I might go back and read the previous books in this series. Jorja is asked to look into the death of a former police officer’s death, Jorja accepts it and it spirals into this big mystery concerning a missing pre-Columbian artifact. The twists and turns and thinking you have something figured out, but then a curve ball is thrown at you and you are back to square one. The storyline was well-paced and thought out very carefully. I can’t wait to read more of Jorja’s adventures and mysteries!

While reading this book, I was constantly thinking – thinking I knew the truth, thinking I was a step ahead and then thinking I had no idea what I was talking about. Each chapter dove deeper into a complex dynamic between several people, with no clear understanding of truth. The author does a great job at developing characters who are ever changing, or perhaps the author just gives the perspective of change. This book had me curious to the very end and left me thinking about how anyone can have a multitude of stories based on different people’s perspectives.

When I started this book I honestly didn’t know what to expect but I was blown away by how fantastic it was. Firstly, I loved the era it was set in. I really felt like I was transported there while reading the book. The fact that the book was also telling three different stories just added so much extra depth to the story. All of the characters added so much to the storyline. They were interesting and unique, offering a great dynamic between them. They all fit with the timeline and the story that the author was telling. As this first book in the series I feel that the author has started as they mean to go on. This was a strong opening and has enticed me enough to want to read more. I can’t wait to see where this series is going.

Knight in The Museum is the fifth book in the Jorja Knight Private Investigator Mystery Series. The cover and title pulled me in without realizing this was the fifth book in the series. Don’t let this stop you from grabbing this book. It was easy to read as a standalone without feeling lost or out of touch with the characters and the story. Jorja (not Georgia) Knight is a fantastic PI who gets herself into some interesting situations. I always liked stories with art or antiquities built into the story, and this one kept me intrigued. I will not give any plot points because I do not want to wreck the story for anyone else. After reading this book, I can’t wait to dig into the other books in the series. It is always great to discover a new series and author.

This was my first book by this author and it will not be my last. I will definitely go back and read the first two books of this series. How the story is set up is pretty neat. It’s a story within a story. Gary and Deb have a weird/great relationship. I will be reading more from this author.

This was a great 5 star read. I was pulled in and didn’t want to put it down. Debbie and Gary are staying together during the pandemic. As time goes on, Debbie’s mom ends up with COVID and she becomes very worried. Gary also has a past that he decides to share with Debbie. We learn some interesting and heartbreaking things. How will Debbie react to Gary’s secrets? Will his story help her keep her mind off her worries?
Overall this was a great read. The characters were great and they had a great connection. At first I wasn’t sure about Gary until he started sharing his story. The author does a great job with his writing. This is the 3rd book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. 1-click and get started today.

This is a new author to me and when I read the synopsis I decided to dive into this book and I am so glad I did!! Wow…this story, while having 3 different parts to it and then how the story intertwines the characters at the end….fabulous. While the years of when the stories take place are around 1920’s and 1930’s, this is not my normal range to read as far the timelines…..I was so pleasantly pleased and I devoured this book and could not put it down. Turning each page to see what happens to Francie, Rose and Beau.
Francie Roubideaux is a young 17 year old girl living in hardship with her mother and younger brother as her father is in jail. When an opportunity comes along to Francie’s mother to give Francie a life that she deserved by Madam Claire, Francie’s mother does so. Francie befriends a girl named Lula and they are both joining Madam Claire to be proper women….but when tides turn and her Francie’s life is turned upside down….can Francie survive once she ends up at the Mansfield Supper Club?
Rose Donovan has dreams of leaving her small town for big city dream with her best friend, May. When Rico Valentino enters the Fenders Shake Shoppe..he is already has his eyes set on Rose. The more time Rico and Rose spend together, the more Rose falls for Rico leaving her best friend behind. Nothing is what it seems behind closed doors between Rico and Rose once they are married and set to live in Hollywood. Rico has his eyes set on fame for Rose at the Mansfield Supper Club as a singer.
Beau Hartwell is an up and coming lawyer in Atlanta with a beautiful socialite wife at his side. When Beau’s childhood best friend, Poke, sends his sister Annie to Beau in need of help after being accused of a crime he did not commit…will Beau be able to defend Poke especially after the injustice being ensued by both the judge and officers that are only out for blood?
All 3 character stories really tug at me for different reasons. There are some parts not easy to read for sure…murder, intrigue, abuse, injustice, heartbreak for all….but Beau, Rose and Francie all end up together at the Mansfield Supper Club for one reason or another…..
I cannot wait to get my hands and eyes on book 2!! I need to know what happens next…….
