Deadly Sommer (Nora Sommer Caribbean Suspense Book 1) by Nicholas Harvey – Review by Heidi Sturgess

I wish I read the previous books that Nora was in ! Girl you’re a hardcore survivor! All is not as it seems and the past doesn’t always stay hidden , sometimes it comes back to haunt you …..

Nora hasn’t had it easy and I think she thought Cayman Islands was going to be a fresh start for her and it was until a young girl disappears , desperate to save her she has to face and complete challenges …….

A brilliant read that had me on the edge of my seat at times and biting my nails , in between packing my bags to head off to the Cayman islands ( the author really makes you want to go there ) I was a bit of a nervous wreck 😉

Looking forward to more time with Nora ❣️📕

Let me just start this with WHAT A FAST PACED thriller. We are met with Nora, a new Constable in the Cayman Islands. She is thrown into a situation she never dreamed of.

I do wish we had more of Nora’s background and why she was “chosen” for this particular situation. We are told part of her story but not the whole thing. Maybe that will come in the next part of the series.

This story was fast and full of dread and hope. I highly enjoyed everything this had to offer!

This is my first book by this author, and it was great! There are previous books where Nora, the main character, shows up but I did not feel like I was missing anything while reading this. I think it was a great introduction book for the character. The storyline keeps you on your toes and makes you want to know what will happen next. The ending was tied up nicely and answered all my questions. I would definitely read this author again!

Nora is a native Norweigian who is living on the Grand Cayman Islands. She is a newly inducted Constable with the local police department. This particular area doesn’t see a lot of crime but Nora is chomping at the bit to do “something fun”. Little does she know that her life is about to change!
Entering a house that had a sign that lured Nora and her partner, Nora finds herself in a dangerous mind game with a girl’s life at stake. Can she maneuver through these grueling tasks that this insane kidnapper is demanding, while knowing that he’s livestreaming every step she takes?
This is a new-to-me author but not much longer! There are other stories that give a little bit more of Nora’s back story but I don’t feel like I missed a lot by not reading them prior. The author gives enough background to grasp the gist of her story. I do look forward to going back and reading other books that contain her character to see how she progresses. This book did not disappoint and kept me on the edge of my seat!

Twisting, Turning and Hiding My Kindle in the freezer… This thriller has it all… This is my very first book by this author and let me say I will be returning to read everything they have written!!! I am very picky when it comes to suspense novels as most don’t have enough backstory or as many details as I would like. Not with this author!! You will find yourself needing more and after you go on and read book two you will sit around tapping your fingers waiting for book three… begging for more!

Deadly Sommer (Nora Sommer Caribbean Suspense Book 1) by Nicholas Harvey – Review by Maryn Belling

Deadly Sommer is the first book in the Nora Sommer Caribbean Suspense series by Nicholas Harvey. If you’ve been waiting to meet a new female main-character built of tenacity, grit, gumption, sass, and resourcefulness (and a past) Nora Sommer is who you’ve been seeking!
Deft storyline creation with compartmentalization that ring of Tom Clancy or Shakespeare, Nicholas Harvey brings us into the world of the Caribbean. Whether it’s your first visit or you’re a seasoned traveler, details bring the water, land, and people to life with familiarity and uniqueness.

Appealing to natives & transplants, Nora’s thinking brings us all together: “Home can be about familiarity, where you were born, or where you spent the most time, but ultimately it came down to people.” Her youth belies wisdom & experience.

Added bonus: Norwegian swear words!

Deadly Sommer
By Nicholas Harvey
5*
This book is the best type of suspense. The type that is filled with believable characters and a believable storyline. The main character is Nora and she is new to the Cayman Island Constable force. She has taken this position after facing a tragedy. She is also the first to admit that she is only alive because she does not want her friends and family to feel what she is feeling right now. She also is the lucky chosen constable who is tasked with participating in a series of games to free a hostage who is being held by a mad man. This mad man is Live Streaming every single one of these games and the entire world is watching and waiting to see what will happen to Nora and this hostage. The Cayman islands are a nice peaceful place that don’t see this type of crime frequently, to say they are unsure how to handle this is an understatement. Add to this, the hostage is the daughter of a prominent American businessman. In comes the FBI to help the American citizen. What they see is that this is they type of case where no amount of experience will help. What will succeed is following their gut.
This story had the most amazing characters and was an amazing look at family and friendships. It also was a look at how people handle trauma. I’m not sure that the author set out with this to be the purpose, but it struck me that many of the characters had faced a recent trauma and were responding in very different ways. I will most definitely be reading more of the Nora Sommer Books!

This book is a suspenseful thriller! The author is confident in her ability to deliver, and what an amazing delivery of conspiracy, activism, and good versus evil. I particularly like the way the main character battles with things that are beyond her control. I appreciate the glimpses into the world of addiction. Best of all, the author does not have to resort to the low-hanging fruit of “bedroom scenes” that too many authors today use when they don’t have a good story.

This is a Christian-based mystery and though it isn’t what I typically pickup, it was quite entertaining! I enjoyed it more than the first book in the series which is rare. The author does a good job of keeping you on your toes the entire time you’re trying to figure out who could be at the center of everything. It gives a startling view on what could really be in your medications which was scary! How much can former DEA Agent Greg Nelson and his fiancé, Anne, take before it’s all too much? This is a great story full of suspense with twists and turns at every chapter.

Deadly Summer by Nicholas Harvey…4 stars for me! This is the first book I’ve read by him and I was NOT disappointed. He gives you multiple POV’s, which is what I love in a book. He gives you suspense! There’s so many twists and turns in this book, it had my attention from the start. I love the crime, the thrill, the suspense! So many times while reading I wanted to pick up the habit of nail biting lol just because I was anxious. The main character, Nora, is just an all around badass! Highly recommend this book!

Nora is a new police officer in the Royal Caymen Islands. Her first case is a kidnapping of a wealthy business mans daughter and she was “chosen” to play the game and have Skylar returned or lose, and she is killed.
Nora is already struggling with her own demons and past, now she is forced to undergo multiple challenges and solve the game to save a life.
This is a first in the series book. The attention to detail is amazing but sometimes a little too much. Still an excellent book and can not wait to continue the series.

This may be a new author for me, but I will definitely go after this series. I was in total suspense throughout the story. Fighting against drugs is hard enough. But when friends and family are dragged into it. Makes finding the Kronilan Drugs and getting it off the streets a priority. DEA Agents Grant York and Josh McKenzie are assigned this task, are they ready? Can they find the culprit? Read on as I give you no Spoilers. The characters are easy to like and help keep you reading. While the story is fast paced, you will not want to put it down. This author has done her research and spun this into a Can’t Stop Reading intense story.

I have dabbled in religion here and there and have never full felt the pull that one should when they have found their niche, their beliefs met, and found comfort in those thoughts. I have been on a couple of missionary trips with different churches, so this novel resonated with me. Especially since one of those trips was to Mexico. Of course, I didn’t go through near the adventure and fear that Nora did throughout this novel, but nonetheless, it was invigorating to read of such a trip, and makes me want to revisit the idea of going on more in the future. This author wove an intricate story, telling numerous different sides and did very well doing so.

I didn’t find it easy to get through the novel, however, I suppose it was just not my cup of tea now, as I found it a little difficult to connect with all the different characters within. Nora, and Dot’s friendship was one that I admire, and the descriptiveness within these pages was very well done, as I felt like the world building was well established. Overall, the mission’s trip, the DEA folks, and the supporting characters had a lot of thought put into them, just perhaps didn’t allow the reader to connect enough to maintain interest, truly the only spot I felt was lacking. A good read, and certainly worth it if your beliefs match those of the characters. Would recommend!

Deadly Sommer (Nora Sommer #1)Deadly Sommer by Nicholas Harvey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was fascinating to me. At first, I struggled to connect with Nora, she seems closed off and doesn’t enjoy talking to people, and seems to not have many friends or meaningful relationships and the reason for that is devastating and explained later in the book. The book follows Nora, a young and new officer whom a kidnapper personally chooses to go through his challenges in order to save the life of the kidnapped girl. The challenges were unique and meaningful and all part of a bigger picture. I did end up enjoying the fact that Nora was not so touchy-feely as most women I read about. She was strong, a survivor of hard times, and authentic. She was also insanely smart and creative during the challenges and I absolutely loved watching this unfold. I was on the edge of my seat until the very end. I enjoyed the end much more than I thought I would it took a different turn than I expected which I loved. I would definitely recommend reading this if you want unique suspense.

Deadly Sommer (Nora Sommer #1)Deadly Sommer by Nicholas Harvey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What is there to say about Deadly Sommer? Well it reminded me a lot of the movie Untraceable. There’s always a story to tell. Especially once one resorts to kidnapping.
Nora Sommer, nineteen, and new to the Cayman Island police force thought she was going to have a normal day. Well boy was she wrong. Getting looped into a 4 challenge scheme to rescue the daughter of a prominent Florida business man Donovan Briggs.
Jensen Massey is trying to prove a point. That his wife was murdered and that it was covered up. So he kidnaps Skylar Briggs and enlists Nora into helping him with his game. “Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil” Broadcast online for anyone to see. Jensen has a message and doesn’t plan to stop till the family he feels is behind his wife’s death is brought down and held responsible.
Will Nora get through all 4 challenges?
Does Skylar end up hurt and/or dead?
Where does the Briggs family fall into all this?
The author keeps you intrigued and guessing on what will happen next. Weaving you through a story of corruption, lies, and the benefits of having friends in high places. Unfortunately an innocent young woman is used as a pawn to get the story across. If you like suspenseful thrillers this book is definitely for you!

Deadly Sommer by Nicholas Harvey is book one in the Nora Sommer Caribbean Suspense series. Overall, I am so happy that I took a chance on this new to me author. The book was fantastic and suspenseful. Nora is a police officer in the Royal Cayman Islands. She is 19, has had a rough go at life already, and brand new to the force. The story is in first person which is such a great perspective and there is not really a romantic aspect which was refreshing. With as relaxed as the islands are, this type of crime was the furthest thing from anyone’s mind. And Nora was the lucky chosen one. I definitely recommend this book and I am so excited to read more in this series!

WOW! I did not expect that ending and outcome! When I first read the description, I didn’t think I would be too interested, but I gave it a try and I am glad I did. I was hooked from the very beginning. I really like when an author’s writing can pull me in right away so I am not struggling keep my focus on the story. At first I was kind of confused about the shifting point of views, but quickly caught on to how the story was being laid out. The characters are all very easy to like and the issue with drugs and overdosing is a real problem in the world, so it is nice to see that being addressed here. Anne’s character is very strong, I can’t say I would be as strong as she is when dealing with addiction. She also has a team of friends who have her back and don’t want to see her in any pain or struggle. I highly recommend!

This was my first book by this author, although I see that he has other series that have a similar vibe so I am definitely going to check those out. One of the things that I loved about this book was the strong female character. I love reading about female detectives that get the job done and the mysteries solved, which comes all the way from my childhood reading Nancy Drew books. I think it is so important for authors to write independent, capable female characters across all genres. I definitely recommend this book to anyone that enjoys mystery series. It kept me interested from the beginning to the end and made me want to go to the beach!

This book is perfect for any murder mystery lover, it is has suspense, mystery and twist and turns that I did not see coming, definitely a page turner I finished this book at 3 am.

Nora’s journey throughout this book was a roller coaster, at first she thinks she is coming to a beautiful island, will be an easier job, she can relax and take it easy for awhile. Little did she know she would be become a pawn to the kidnappers plan, and will she survive?

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Deadly Sommer is the first book in the Nora Sommer Caribbean Suspense series. I hope the author makes a prequel, because there is a lot of reference to Nora’s past and how/why she joined the police force. This is the first book I have read by this author but I am hooked. It was so well written, and the characters were wonderful. He even wrote the locals’ speech in the broken English you would find in the Cayman Islands. This book was filled with suspense, and kept me on the edge of my seat. It slowly unraveled, but kept us guessing what would come next. Nora is an amazing character, despite being young and a rookie cop, she is very resourceful and passionate. I cant wait to read the next book in the series.
