In Plain Sight (Logan McKenna Mystery Book 8) by Valerie Davisson – Review by Julie Johnson

In Plain Sight: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 8In Plain Sight: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 8 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Things finally seem to be going in the right direction for Logan. She’s very happily married to Ben (finally!), having more time to spend with Bella, and volunteering at a local wildlife rescue center. Of course, things have to take a dramatic change and Logan finds herself in the middle of another murder mystery. She just can’t seem to avoid them!

This book has some interesting twists and turns and like the previous books in this series, the writing continues to get better and the story is more engaging. I have really enjoyed this series and while they can be read as standalones, I highly suggest reading these in order so you get the full character history.

After reading book 8, though fully intending to go all the way back to book one to begin the series, that is what people recommend, I haven’t done that yet, I went to the next book in the series, book nine. This series focuses mainly on one person, Logan McKenna. She frequently has to lay it all on the line to solve the mysteries and the suspense is palpable. Lost and Found was an intriguing novel that I’m glad to have read and can recommend to others.

Devil's Claw: A Logan McKenna Mystery/Thriller Book 3 (Logan McKenna Series)Devil’s Claw: A Logan McKenna Mystery/Thriller Book 3 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Devil’s Claw is the third book in the Logan McKenna series, and so far my favorite of the first three books. I am coming to find out each book focuses on a different social issue and is well presented in how it is handled. I never feel lectured or forced to see things from the author’s POV, but rather shown that the issue exists, and how to navigate through that. Devil’s claw taught me a bit about sea otters and rescue as a side educational portion to the actual storyline. The author paints vivid pictures describing her scenes and characters and the character development is believable and easy to follow. When a new sea otter rescue is presented with legal battles over who the real owner of the property is, greed and complications come out in full swing. Many people come forward as the owners, and the hostility amps up quickly. Inevitably, someone turns up murdered. With so many people involved…some with everything to lose, and everything to gain…who is the culprit? Very fast paced and edge of your seat writing style, and I liked this one the best so far. Can’t wait to check out book 4!

Forest Park: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 2 (The Logan McKenna Series) by Valerie Davisson – Review by Amanda Swindle

Forest Park: Logan Book 2 (The Logan McKenna Series)Forest Park: Logan Book 2 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Forest Park is book two in the Logan McKenna Mystery series. Logan McKenna is back and this time we see things from different perspectives and thoughts of different characters. there was not much transition from one character’s thoughts to another, but I was able to easily follow who it is we are are meant to be in the head of. I enjoyed that sensitive topics were handled well and not shoved into the reader’s faces, and was not presented in a way to come across as lecturing. While this is a continuation from book one (about 6 months after the last book), I think this could easily be read as a standalone. Their are two stories happening in Forest Park. One is dealing with a Vietnamese food truck that was bombed and the other is a homeless veteran with PTSD and it somehow works that both storylines come together smoothly. I wouldnt really say this was much of a mystery, and more of a thriller, but I still enjoyed the story and the way it was presented and I do think the writing, overall, is well done.

Shattered: Logan Book 1 (The Logan McKenna Series)Shattered: Logan Book 1 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Shattered is book one in the Logan McKenna Mystery/Thriller series and my first read from this author. Logan’s life is falling apart around her. She has lost her husband to a car accident and sold her business to become a school teacher. Other teachers began accusing her of helping her students cheat, so now she might lose that as well. To try to escape from everything and get her head back in the game, she goes to South Cali for the summer. The fresh air and familiar faces will do her well….until a body shows up at the art festival she is working at. Now Logan McKenna has to help solve the murder to save her and her friend from false accusations. I love the strong female lead character quite a bit, and the story progressed well without too many slow spots or unbelievable moments. I still have 8 more books in the series to read so I am curious where it goes next.

Lost and Found: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 9 (Logan McKenna Series)Lost and Found: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 9 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’m such a fan of this series and yet again I was gripped throughout with this mystery, crime thriller. I loved being back with our heroine, Logan McKenna who feels like an old friend now. This story is set on the Oregon coast where commercial crabbing is big business but also a dangerous one. Logan is asked by Sam to defend a friend who she says is innocent, but with a murderer on the loose Logan needs to find the killer. Logan finds it difficult to unravel the fact from fiction in this case in order to get to the truth. With one dead body and more than one other life at risk she’s determined to investigate, however, this then puts her in danger and in the killers sights. As usual Logan is a great main character and definitely a strong female protagonist. The descriptive narrative brought both the characters and the setting vividly to life, which made me feel immersed in the storyline and engaged with the characters. The plot was full of twists and turns whilst the suspense built with each chapter, keeping me hooked!

Lost and Found: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 9 (Logan McKenna Series)Lost and Found: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 9 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 9th book in The Logan McKenna Mystery series. Even though these books can be read as a standalone I personally recommend reading them from the beginning as we learn so much about Logan as the series progresses and it gives the reader a complete understanding of who she is, what she has gone through, and how she has become the woman she is today. This author’s writing is amazing. Every story is unique and full of so many twists and turns that I’m kept guessing all the way through. I am always gripped by these stories and I can’t put them down until Logan had found out the truth.
This book was no different. Yet again a murder had occurred, and with so many stories and lies and so much deception it is going to take everything Logan has to be able to unravel all these lies to get to the truth. Can she figure out what’s going on before its too late?
With so many characters that are so well written you will be guessing who is to blame all the way through.

This author and this series just keeps going from strength to strength. If you love a good Thriller, with a strong and determined female lead then you will definately enjoy this series. I can’t wait to see what else the author has in store for us.

Once again, Logan has found herself in trouble. While going to Oregon to check in with the school that she’s partnering with, she finds a dead body. Another one. They seem to be attracted to her. The police are convinced they know who committed this murder but they are also in a bit of disbelief that Logan is showing up at all their crime scenes. She does tend to get these murders solved before they do though, so maybe they should appreciate her presence!

Another great read in this series! These can be read as a standalone but I do recommend starting at the beginning so you understand all the people and relationship dynamics.

I am really enjoying this series and each book seems to get better. In this story of Logan McKenna, the reader gets a bit of a history lesson, along with an unsolved murder. No one ever knew it was a murder though, except for the perpetrator. Logan also learns about a half sister that she has and she’s able to meet her. That doesn’t happen without a lot of drama though. This story is very intriguing as there is a link to the past with it. Things also seem to be progressing a bit more between Logan and Ben too. I’m curious to see what comes next!

Lost and Found is the ninth book in the Logan McKenna Mystery series by Valerie Davisson. We follow Logan McKenna on another intriguing crime and investigation story with mystery, murder, danger, drama, a tangled web of truth and lies, high stakes, dramatic developments, tension, challenges, and risks.
At the risk of sounding repetitive, because I say this with every new instalment, but this series really is getting better and better the further into it we go.
In this instalment Logan McKenna takes us on a foray into commercial crabbing where a dead body leads to a tangled web of truth and lies. Logan is asked to help find the truth. What secrets does she uncover along the way? Will she be able to unravel the everything before the stakes get any higher?
Even though this is the ninth book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. But having said that, Logan has led us on a lot of intriguing investigations over the course of the series where we discover a lot about her personality, background, family, motivations, relationships, and character. So I recommend reading the previous books to get a fuller appreciation of Logan and the other intriguing mysteries she has taken us on.
The series contains:
-Bella: An Appalachian Love Story (Book #0 – 0.5)
-Jagged Dawn (Book #0.5)
-Shattered (Book #1)
-Forrest Park (Book #2)
-Devil’s Claw (Book #3)
-Vanishing Day (Book #4)
-Safe Harbor (Book #5)
-Lies That Bind (Book #6)
-Whisper Creek (Book #7)
-In Plain Sight (Book #8)
-Lost and Found (Book #9)
Wonder what Logan McKenna gets up to next?
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Valerie Davisson!

I always love getting back into the character of Logan. I find her so interesting and varied. Even though this is the ninth book of the series, I never quite know what to expect from her or the story.
This book is full of mystery and suspense, just like the others. It is exciting to read and I found myself fully invested in what was happening. I think this author has done a brilliant job of creating a series that has lasted so well and it is one that I hope keeps going for even longer.

Lost and Found by Valerie is the ninth thrilling book in A Logan McKenna Mystery series. As usual trouble and Logan go hand in hand in this fast-paced mysterious crime and investigation story. Valerie’s stories get better and better with each book she gifts us with and this one may be my favourite. I hope it’s not the end.
I have been looking forward to this latest book and was not disappointed. Valerie has cleverly woven threads that throws Logan into something even more deadly than she has ever faced before.
Lost and Found will keep you on your toes whilst Logan is caught up in a parcel of secrets, lies and deceit and unable to tell what is fact or fiction. She has her work cut out for her before time runs out.
Who can she trust? Who are friends and who are foes? One thing for sure is the killer does not want the truth revealed and will do what they have to, to protect themselves.
Dive in and get lost in the tale that is filled with tension, intrigue, drama, suspense, and danger that is palpable.

She and Ben go on a boat/fishing excursion and at the conclusion of that, they both witness an argument because the boat’s captain and a former employee. The next thing they know, the boat captain is dead and Logan’s phone is found and is evidence towards finding the one who did it.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’m working my way through this series pretty quickly and I have to say, this has been my favorite book so far. It covers the sensitive topic of domestic violence and I think it was done in a way that covered it delicately.

Logan has a new neighbor and she’s pretty tight lipped on where she’s from. However, Logan isn’t one to push and when Lori starts to open up to her and spend some time with her shopping, Logan realizes that all might not be well. One day when baby Shannon turns up on Logan’s doorstep, she immediately is concerned about Lori and finds her beaten within an inch of her life. Not knowing any of Lori’s background, all Logan can do is call the police and get the investigation started.

Meanwhile, Ben drops a bombshell on Logan that gives her a lot of things to consider. She’s not sure she’s ready for what he’s asking about and it could change their relationship forever.

While there is still a lot of repeated things in this series, it’s starting to become a little less. This book could be read as a standalone but the reader would be missing out on the previous adventures that Logan and crew have been involved in.

Another great Logan McKenna Mystery! This time Logan is helping a friend who is one of four suspects in a murder. Of course Logan can’t help but look into who may have committed the crime. The author does a wonderful job of world building so we can really imagine how the characters are feeling and how they respond to Logan’s search for the suspect. Will the police figure out the right suspect or will Logan dig deeper to find the true suspect?

You won’t be disappointed reading any of this series. It does help a bit to start from the first book as some characters pop into a book at any time. The author sure keeps us readers hooked!

Logan’s daughter, Amy, is home from her travels in Africa. She’s home because she is receiving treatment for and recovering from malaria. She’s under strict orders to get as much rest as possible. Liam, Amy’s boyfriend, is taking the doctor’s orders very seriously and monitoring Amy’s progress hourly.

The sea otter center, which is fairly new, receives a new sea otter pup after Logan and Amy find it trapped in some seaweed while on a walk one day. Eager to learn more about the habits of sea otters, Amy volunteers, along with several of her friends, to help nurse the otter back to health.

A snag has come up in the sea otter center though as another person has come up claiming rights to the property. There is a lot of legal battling going on, and then a break-in, some injuries, and a murder. What has Logan gotten herself into this time?

I enjoyed this story and it kept me engaged. This one was a bit more emotional for me because of the situations within the story. I continue to look forward to reading more of this series.

Logan just can’t stay out of trouble

We start book 7 with Logan going viral with several of her compositions on her violin being put together online on a video and it goes absolutely viral. She’s shocked and it rocks her confidence in her decision to marry Ben who finally proposed, how will money effect their relationship?

Logan goes out of town to Whisper Creek for a consulting gig to help at New school who she’s always refused to sign on full time for. She meets up with a few friends and comes across Monica, a woman no one likes and she’s played her husband and step son really dirty, but when Logan finds her dead and the questions start it doesn’t matter who Monica was but who killed her. The police think they know and Logan knows they are wrong and has to figure it out before a friend ends up charged with a murder she’s sure they didn’t have any part of.

Well done suspense again! Poor Logan needs a vacation from all this drama!
