This was such a great read. I was invested from the start. Firehouse reads are a favorite of mine and this one just dove right in and didnt sugarcoat anything. The chemistry was explosive and could feel the heat between them whether he realized it or not from the start.

Ahhhh. I expected just a love story. This was so much more. As a social worker I loved the focus on mental health, especially focused on a male character. Another favorite of mine was how the couple started out as friends. Things usually start in love stories hot and heavy, but these two characters develop beautiful.
This gave me a bit of Chicago Fire feels. Can’t wait to read more in the series!

This was a great read! It was enthralling, emotional with a happy ending and steamy! Definitely an 18+ novel. It was quick paced and short, and very well written. I could hardly put it down. The characters were lovable and showed a lot of character and depth. This was a great read and I can’t wait to read more like this in the future!

Sol has been through a traumatic rescue; people deem him as a hero, but he is feeling lost. Now trying to find a way back into life since being medically retired he is in a slump; he is drinking heavily to numb the pain but when he receives and intervention and is forced to speak to a therapist, he starts discovering himself again and there is life after the Fire Service.
Ember is new in the firehouse and loving every minute, her life is her career, and nothing is going to pull her from the focus, but when she sees her old mentor throwing his life away, she is determined to show him the way out. Although she is willing to do anything to help a friend, she has always had a secret crush on him, but will he see her as the woman she had become or the kid he mentored in the Fire Service.
This story was a well written and developed story. It is not often that the mental health card is given to the male character in the story, but this is written with respect, strength and the willing to go and try to sort out the demons going through the main character.
The chemistry between the two main characters was brilliantly and although this is my first book within this series this can be read as a standalone story. I loved the interaction of the secondary characters which flowed with the story and bringing the main characters more depth and growth as the story went on. I find these sorts of series brilliant with different authors perspectives on main theme is both enjoyable and refreshing.
I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series and more books by this author as well.

This is a sweet romance about finding love when you least expect it. In one heroic move Sol saves lives but loses his ability to keep being a firefighter. He soon finds himself in downward spiral, but Ember is not willing to give up on man she admires. Ember has always looked up to Sol but when she gets to work with the man, she soon begins to feel much more than just admiration. Can Ember save Sol from himself before it is too late? Their story is a quick and predictable one. If you enjoy Harlequin type romance books than this one is for you. While Sol may have lost his purpose since getting injured Ember has never doubted him. As Ember tries to reach the man she knows is still there, the two must figure out the attraction that is simmering between them. While the storyline was interesting, I did not connect with the characters. I felt that there was not enough depth to them and some of the plot just really seemed like filler and unnecessary. I would have liked to have seen the story fleshed out a bit more, as it stands the story felt a bit rushed to me. I was happy to see the importance put on therapy and help for those needing it, but it seemed almost as if it was just added for moving the plot along. As bad as Sol was, he barely saw the therapist and after a few sessions he was pretty much cured. I know this is fiction, but it was a stretch. It was nice to see Sol and Ember find their way to a happy ever after.

I haven’t read many of this author books but what I have read I enjoyed. This a Contemporary romance about finding love unexpectedly, with a friend to lovers’ theme, mentor/mentee relationship, between firefighters. I enjoyed the plot and the characters where well written and the way they play off each other makes them real.
We watch Sol fight his demons when he can’t be a firefighter because of an injury. With nothing to do he finds solace in the bottle. He needs to wake up and move on because he might not have a house or friends anymore. Can ember help him face his demons or will he be forced to live alone?
Ember is a new firefighter and she is kind of lost without her mentor and long-time crush Sol. Can she help him move forward or will her job drive a wedge between them? Will Sol open up to Ember? With an eleven-year age gap between them can they be happy together?

I loved this book! Romance, action, and some hot scenes. Ember is new to the firehouse, but has always had a crush on Sol, her mentor. Sol is known as a hero, but to his dismay, becoming a hero meant harming himself in a fire. He can no longer be a firefighter and he’s completely lost his sense of self. Read this book if you like a come back story, happily ever after, and really cool firefighting scenes!

This is the 4th book in a multi-author series set around Firehouse 13. I have read several of this author’s books so far and have always enjoyed them so was happy to read more of her work. I was also interested by the blurb so it was a no brainer for me to read this book. I really enjoyed Ember and Sol’s story. Sol is a retired firefighter, having sustained an injury in a fire which left him unable to continue in the role. Ember is a relatively new firefighter who had had Sol as her mentor and had always had a bit of a crush on him. As Sol slips into an alcohol fueled depression due to his enforced retirement, it’s Ember who helps him through this hard point in his life. This is a great friends to lovers romance with the added grit of seeing Sol struggle through this particularly hard time. I did find the writing a bit disjointed (is that the right term?) and it didn’t flow as well as the other books by this author but I loved the characters and the storyline so still enjoyed the book.

I love to read firemen’s stories. This one is just what I needed to read. Sol was injured and forced to retire from his firehouse. He has a long battle to find himself. Starting with the demons within. Ember is a new firefighter, and her secret crush as well as her mentor has been forced out. Will work pull them apart? Or are they so much more? Even though there are years between them, could they possibly build friendship and more? This story is quite the rollercoaster of emotions. While the story is short, the author has packed it full of reading enjoyment. Even Though I started with book 4 in this series, I’m Going back to the beginning of the series. This story is well written and very much worth your time. I hope you enjoy this series as I am.

Sol is battling with an addiction to alcohol after his has to give up his dream job of being a firefighter. Forced to retire, he is not the same man that he used to be. He does not enjoy any of the things he used to and doesn’t want to speak to any of his friends. If he keeps it up, he will go down a dark path. Enter is light in the tunnel, Ember. She is also a firefighter who strives for greatness. The firehouse just isn’t the same without her favorite eye candy around. When she runs into Sol drinking away his sorrows, she knows she must help him. She has always had a thing for him. Will she be able to help Sol and steal his heart? Or will Sol crash and burn quicker than a structure fire? This was a quick read but worth it! The characters are contagious and kept me wanting more. This book is hot and I’m not just talking about the fire!

Thus Book was the perfect length for me to read this week. I had some stuff going on and had a hard time focusing on everything but this book was a great break for me to enjoy without the long term concentration.
Ember is the perfect name for a fire fighter and this Ember lives up to her name. She definitely a spark that lights up wherever she is.
Sol needed Ember to remain in his life after everything that happened though he wasn’t aware of it until they run into one another.
I liked this story, the characters and plot were what I needed to read at the time.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I was not at all disappointed. This book is book four of a series by a collaboration of authors.
Sol is being forced to retire and it’s going to ruin his life if he keeps going down this self destructive path of “coping”. Ember is a newly minted firefighter, which is everything she’s wanted. The only problem is she also wants Sol but her job might drive a wedge between them. Will Ember and Sol’s friendship grow into more or will Sol let her job tear them apart.
I am glad I picked this book up. I really enjoyed it! There’s a bit of angst and lot of emotions and chemistry! I definitely recommend!

Danielle Jacks brought the thought processes of the two main characters in her novel to life wonderfully. Solomon (Sol) summed up his point of view after an injury left him unable to continue as a firefighter by saying, “Being a hero means nothing without the firehouse.” His former mentee, Ember, has an infatuation with Sol. She tells him, “You’re not my hero because you’ve saved lives. You’re my hero because you inspire me to be better.” The story begins with Sol seeing a therapist, who turns out to be Ember’s aunt, to help him deal with issues that have caused him to drink alcohol frequently. It follows the relationship between Sol and Ember, with alternating perspectives from these two main characters. Burned by Fire: Book 4 has the perfect amount of angst, character development, and even a few spicy scenes!

This was the second book I read by this author and just like the first, it did not disappoint! I love her style of writing and that the books draw you in. I read this book over a very short period of time simply because it was impossible to put down. I love the way she builds her characters and that as the reader I can relate to some of the things going on in their lives and that helps me to feel like I am a part of the story too. Sol and Ember were great characters and the connection they developed and the similar interest they had made them fit perfectly together. I really enjoyed how the author threw in how Ember had a long-time crush and that had the chance of becoming more. Overall I highly recommend this book and any others you may come across by this author as they will not disappoint you!

This is the first book that I have read from this author and i was not disappointed. This book is the fourth book in the Firehouse 13 series. But don’t not let that stop you from picking it up and reading. This story is absolutely amazing, and it suck you in, so you aren’t able put it down long enough to do your daily tasks. Even if you haven’t read the rest of the series yet, this book can be read as a standalone but i recommend reading the other books also, so you’ll understand everything a little better. This book brought out a lot of different feelings inside of me including loss, love, and comfort. This book does a great job of shining a light on mental health and how it can affect the relationships you hold.
Each character has their own unique qualities. Sol, a retired firefighter, holds onto his injury and lets it affect every part of his life. Where Ember, a rookie firefighter, takes life by the horns and works hard in her career. The two of them together create sparks that could very easily start a fire.
I can’t wait to read the other books in the series and other books from the author in the near future.

Danielle Jacks done amazing writing this book. I feel like she could have gave more details and stretched some of the chapters out to make it longer. It is very informative on how people with PTSD and triggers live their day to day lives after an accident. It helps show that not everyone is perfect, but we can all still find love even through our imperfections.
After Sol’s accident he didn’t know who he was anymore, so he turned to the bottle. He pushed everyone away and drank in his sorrows, that is until Ember came along. Ember has always looked up to Sol. He was her mentor when she first came to the firehouse. He has always been her crush ever since she seen his calendar work. She keeps trying to push her way into his life and get him to open up, maybe once he sees her therapist aunt Jackie he will give her a chance.

I enjoyed Sol and Ember’s story. Finding love when you least expect and taking that chance on the unknown. Sol lost a piece of himself when he lost his job, and the demons he battled because of it took away his sense of purpose. Ember was a bright light and new to being a firefighter, and still trying to find her place. Sol was her mentor, but also so much more. Together they give each the strength needed.

Burned by Fire isn’t the first book I’ve read by the author. It’s a Firehouse 13 Book and it’s an amazing read. You really like Firehouse Romance then you’ll like this.
Sol used to be a firefighter until he was injured. He saved two kids from a burning building while he was off duty. He doesn’t like being called a hero because he doesn’t feel like one. Then Ember comes into his life and changes it. The quote I chose for Sol is: “It’s a bit like my situation. Everyone thinks I’m a hero for saving those kids, but when I look in the mirror all I see are the scars. I don’t see their futures.”
Ember has always had a crush on her former mentor and firehouse buddy. She’s even collected the charity calendars the firehouse makes because of him. When he comes by and they get stuck in the elevator she confesses her feelings for him. She isn’t expecting to start a life with him. The quote I chose for Ember is: “I look up to you because you’re fearless. You moved away from your hometown as soon as you were old enough and went after your dreams. You’re not my hero because you’ve saved lives. You’re my hero because you inspire me to be better.”
Highly recommended for Contemporary Romance lovers.

This is my first Danielle Jacks novel, however it will not be my last! LOVED this book! Short, easy, read that leaves the reader rooting for this couples happily ever after, despite the questionable age gap. Can’t wait to go back and read the first 3 books of the series. Phenomenal read!
Heroic veteran firefighter, Solan Fox, is devastated and mentally broken when rescuing two children from a fire leaves him injured and forced to give up a career that he loves. Finding solace in the bottom of a bottle and drowning in a pool of self pity, Sol is certain that his live is over….that is until a chance encounter reconnects Sol with his former mentee, Ember. Ember is a young, ambitious, firefighter whose career was just beginning when Sol had his accident. As Ember has always admired Sol, she realizes that he is struggling and is anxious to help him find his place in the world—outside of fighting fires. As their friendship continues to blossom, they soon realize that the feelings each other had kept hidden from the world are sizzling right beneath the surface. Is a relationship with Ember, enough to give new meaning to Sol’s life or will the fact that she is still able to do the job they both loved come between them?

I thought this was a good book. Ember is fairly new to the fore department and Sol was not only her mentor but her crush too. Once Sol was injured and could no longer do his job, he was on a downward spiral. Ember hated seeing him like that and kept trying to get him to see reason. I believe she got him to understand when they were trapped on an elevator together. I thought it was a really sweet story. Unfortunately, not all stories like this have the same ending. Definitely recommend this book to other readers.

I really enjoyed this book, the characters felt real and relatable. I truly appreciate how this book talks about mental heath, especially men’s mental health because I genuinely feel like mental health in men is so often looked over. Men are considered strong and like nothing can break them, and while that may be partially true, men are human just the same and feel emotions and deal with things they don’t always discuss. I love how the relationship between these two evolved, they are both a little damaged. His was from injuries and losing the one thing that mattered most to him, until Ember. Hers was from the relationship with her mother. I wasn’t too sure I would be able to get into this book at the beginning, but it didn’t take long for the storyline to progress and make it easy to get into.

I’m a big fan of star crossed lovers and when you throw in a mermaid? Obsessed. There was so much going on- not only with the main characters but the side characters as well. It really was a hard book to put down. I can’t wait to read the rest in this series! If you’ve read books from her before, you will not be disappointed! And if you haven’t- check this one out!

Wow!! For a novella, this is a fantastic story. Second-chance romances are one of my favorites to read. The thought of people being able to find love again after a troublesome time in their life is both inspiriting and encouraging. Sol is a fireman who was forced to retire after getting injured after saving 2 children from a burning house. He had to retire from his career. He ended up retiring and is now an alcoholic that has to get therapy. Ember is his best friend and mentee. She is 11 years his junior and has a tremendous crush on him. She is working through her own baggage. Can they help each other? He is kind of gruff but she surprised me by dishing it right back. They have chemistry. I felt it in the story. You feel their emotions. I loved every bit of the story. The pain, the tenderness for each other and themselves. When Sol realizes he can help others was an aha moment and your heart felt his joy. The spice was just perfect. Ember needed someone to giver her the push when she needed that reminder she was strong enough and that was Jackie. It was a terrific story that I think many will enjoy. You have to read the story and experience every minute. I want to say it felt like reading it in Dolby surround. I felt the story around me and that just doesn’t happen, if at all. Terrific story.

This is the only book in the Firehouse 13 series that I have read and all I can say is that I need to run, not walk to get the first 3 books in this series! Solomon Fox is a local hero to everyone except himself. Yes he saved 2 kids that will be able to live their life, but it cost him his career. Now what is he supposed to do? His body has healed from the burns but his mind has not. Ember is 11 years younger than Sol and is still working at the firehouse he retired from. She has held Sol in a special place for a while. He was an inspiration to her as well as her mentor in the department. She sees him struggle. Can she help him in finding where he belongs since he can no longer be a firefighter?

Little Mermaid for the next generation. A star-crossed lover’s tale on several accounts. Maris and Kasper, the Mermaid princess and the human man who has given up everything to find a cure for his brother. Pasha and Ryn, a low caste mermaid who’s never understood why she is so despised and a merman of royal blood. This tale has betrayal, magic, and lover’s drama. It’s definitely for a slightly more mature audience as there are some scenes that get steamy, but it doesn’t dip into the full erotic. It’s a beautiful balance that I feel will definitely appeal to the High-school crowd and beyond. With an amazing cast of well written characters, and scenery that makes you want to head for Haiti, this is one beautifully written tale. I can’t wait to see what the other 11 books will be!
