I really enjoyed this book, the characters felt real and relatable. I truly appreciate how this book talks about mental heath, especially men’s mental health because I genuinely feel like mental health in men is so often looked over. Men are considered strong and like nothing can break them, and while that may be partially true, men are human just the same and feel emotions and deal with things they don’t always discuss. I love how the relationship between these two evolved, they are both a little damaged. His was from injuries and losing the one thing that mattered most to him, until Ember. Hers was from the relationship with her mother. I wasn’t too sure I would be able to get into this book at the beginning, but it didn’t take long for the storyline to progress and make it easy to get into.

Another great read from this author! I love her work and this book was just amazing. The cover is gorgeous and eye catching- and was what inspired me to read it. (I do often pick books based on covers.) It was beautifully written and the world the author created was fascinating to dive into. I’m a big fan of star crossed lovers and when you throw in a mermaid? Obsessed. There was so much going on- not only with the main characters but the side characters as well. It really was a hard book to put down. I can’t wait to read the rest in this series! If you’ve read books from her before, you will not be disappointed! And if you haven’t- check this one out!

Wow!! For a novella, this is a fantastic story. Second-chance romances are one of my favorites to read. The thought of people being able to find love again after a troublesome time in their life is both inspiriting and encouraging. Sol is a fireman who was forced to retire after getting injured after saving 2 children from a burning house. He had to retire from his career. He ended up retiring and is now an alcoholic that has to get therapy. Ember is his best friend and mentee. She is 11 years his junior and has a tremendous crush on him. She is working through her own baggage. Can they help each other? He is kind of gruff but she surprised me by dishing it right back. They have chemistry. I felt it in the story. You feel their emotions. I loved every bit of the story. The pain, the tenderness for each other and themselves. When Sol realizes he can help others was an aha moment and your heart felt his joy. The spice was just perfect. Ember needed someone to giver her the push when she needed that reminder she was strong enough and that was Jackie. It was a terrific story that I think many will enjoy. You have to read the story and experience every minute. I want to say it felt like reading it in Dolby surround. I felt the story around me and that just doesn’t happen, if at all. Terrific story.

This is the only book in the Firehouse 13 series that I have read and all I can say is that I need to run, not walk to get the first 3 books in this series! Solomon Fox is a local hero to everyone except himself. Yes he saved 2 kids that will be able to live their life, but it cost him his career. Now what is he supposed to do? His body has healed from the burns but his mind has not. Ember is 11 years younger than Sol and is still working at the firehouse he retired from. She has held Sol in a special place for a while. He was an inspiration to her as well as her mentor in the department. She sees him struggle. Can she help him in finding where he belongs since he can no longer be a firefighter?

Little Mermaid for the next generation.
A star-crossed lover’s tale on several accounts. Maris and Kasper, the Mermaid princess and the human man who has given up everything to find a cure for his brother. Pasha and Ryn, a low caste mermaid who’s never understood why she is so despised and a merman of royal blood.
This tale has betrayal, magic, and lover’s drama. It’s definitely for a slightly more mature audience as there are some scenes that get steamy, but it doesn’t dip into the full erotic. It’s a beautiful balance that I feel will definitely appeal to the High-school crowd and beyond.
With an amazing cast of well written characters, and scenery that makes you want to head for Haiti, this is one beautifully written tale. I can’t wait to see what the other 11 books will be!

This is a pretty enjoyable short story. It is quite a quick paced book due to its length but it was easy enough to get in to. The boom lacked a little bit of depth, which at times I felt could have easily been added without losing the novel feel to it, however it soon picked back up again.
The characters were easy to connect with and fit with the story well. I liked that we got to see things from the dual perspective and for me that made the book. This is a quick and easy read that is enjoyable from staff to finish.

I’m grateful that I got to read this book , not my normal scene and what a refreshing read it was after the tense week of reading I had , was emotionally done but my bibliophile heart and quiver was full ❤️📕😉

The cover art is just beautiful and in between the pages you get transported to magical places with magical beings ….

There’s such a mix going on of mythology, astrology and mere folk then added to it is romance , drama , secrets , truths

Different but fun 🤩

Romance under Aquarius (Stargazing Series Book 1) by Danielle Jacks – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Romance Under AquariusRomance Under Aquarius by Danielle Jacks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this paranormal romance which was an intriguing mix of romance, drama, adventure and Greek mythology and myths, such as Atlantis, all of which had me hooked. The story is told from multiple points of view, which made me feel engaged with each of the main characters. Kasper, is on a quest to travel the world and swim to the deepest depths, as he has been told that in Greek mythology, there is a water healer under the zodiac sign of Aquarius, who he hopes can heal his dying brother. Maris, has found out her fiancé, the man her father wants her to marry, is cheating on her, and is now unsure whether to go against her father. Maris knows that fighting for her opinion to be heard will not change anything, but maybe running away will.
Meanwhile, her best friend Pasha is living with the knowledge that the man she loves is intended for her friend. She has to decide whether to sacrifice her own happiness for theirs, knowing that a future of following rules will make her miserable. Then there is Ryn, in line to be king, but only if he marries someone he doesn’t love gives up the one he does. He has to decide if making it work is worthwhile, especially as the princess he’s to marry seems to be destined for more than he can offer her, but maybe he could help her. This is an immersive read, with the wonderfully descriptive narrative bringing the setting and the characters vividly to life. It’s an original storyline which flows well and had me gripped from start to finish. An enjoyable and entertaining read, which I definitely recommend.

Drama, emotion and soul searching
This is the fourth book in the Firehouse 13 series. I have read several books by this author so I was excited to dive in and I was not disappointed. Some parts are highly emotional and the romance isn’t a bed of roses either. Sol takes some getting used to as he is so full of angst and pain. A highly charged read.

This was an emotional 5 star read. You get pulled in right from the beginning. Sol is dealing with the fact that he can’t be a firefighter anymore. He attempts to go to a counselor but that doesn’t go very well. He’s a hero to others but not to himself. He tries to hide his injury when he can.
Sol has been Ember’s mentor and she is determined to show him how important he is. Ember was great for Sol, she helps him heal. I really loved these two. Ember was a determined woman and refused to give up on Sol. We get so much in the read. The author does a great job with her writing and you will be done before you know it. All of the characters were great. This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. If you’re looking for an age-gap romance that pulls you in, 1-click and get started today on this one.

A wonderful story of four young beings who go out on an adventure to save the brother of one of their group. I got hooked into the story fairly quickly and enjoyed the many aspects the author incorporated into the story like mermaids, paranormal beings, and so much more. I’ve always been interested in astrology so it was fitting to begin reading this book. The story kept me interested and I had a hard time putting the book down. I have read a book or two by this author before and this one didn’t disappoint. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Both Ember and Sol have had romantic feelings for each other for some time but neither of them know of each other’s feelings. This was a full body story even though it was short. The characters are great and it’s a good story line. This was a good read.

Burned by Fire: Danielle Jacks
Part of the Firehouse 13 series, Burned by Fire is installment number four. Each book can be read separately. In Burned by Fire, the story follows former fireman Solomon Fox. Sol was injured while doing an off-duty rescue, forcing him into early retirement. His life became a downward spiral until he reconnects with a former mentee. From there, with her help, his life starts looking up again.
All the characters from Burned by Fire are relatable. The reader could feel what the characters were feeling the entire story. The story kept me guessing and I enjoyed how it portrayed him turning his life back around. It is a heart-felt story, and I could not put it down. The only downfall is that it could have used a little more description in places and some of the conversations were worded awkwardly.
Overall, Burned by Fire is a must read. If you are looking for a realistic love story that is also a quick read, look no further.

This contemporary romance was incredible. When I first found this series I was a little worried about trying it just due to the fact that the series is written by several different authors. But I was definitely wrong, this author like the others provided us with a novel full of emotions, angst, romance, chemistry, hope and so much more. The characters are amazing, the plot was interesting, and the series as a whole has really blown me away. So if your looking for a new romance read to pick up this week, then make sure you take a look into this one.

I’m a huge fan of a story that can be short but doesn’t make you notice that it is. While it’s a shorter read it wasn’t hindered in anyway. I truly felt an easy connection to the characters and the overall storyline and that’s not always easy but this author did it very well. From page one I couldn’t put it down and finished it rather quickly and enjoyed all of it. There’s just something about these two characters that spoke a little deeper to me and I’ll remember them for a while. If you’re looking for an amazing shorter read I highly recommend this story. Firehouse 13 is a 12-part series with each book written by one of 12 amazing authors. Set in a small town called Armstrong and centred around the firehouse sparks fly and temperatures burn in more than one way.

Danielle’s Burned by Fire is the fourth book in the series. It is one story where things are highly emotional and full of drama, angst, pain, stubbornness, and sacrifice. There is hard earned romance and it kept the pages turning but it was over too soon.

Sol is a bitter, bitter man and can’t see where is place in the world is anymore. He has lost the one thing he loves. Now he is looking for answers in the bottom of a bottle but could one beautiful woman change things?

Ember maybe doing what she loves but now something or someone is missing. Could the one thing she wants now be a reality?

I look forward to reading more of this series.

Burned By Fire by Danielle Jacks is the fourth book in the Firehouse 13 series, a multi-author collaboration. It is a bit of an angsty and emotional contemporary romance. A story about finding love unexpectedly, with a friends to lovers theme, firefighters, mentor/mentee relationship, age gap, secret crush, struggles with mental health issues, losing yourself to your inner demons, chemistry, connection, finding purpose, hope, and love.
It has some really sweet moments, but this isn’t a light and fluffy read. The story is emotional as we observe our MC struggle with his inner demons. Sol had lost himself when he had to retire early from the fire department due to injury. He gets stuck in a downward spiral of self-pity, regret, and alcohol. He had lost sight of everything that mattered and now risks losing everything. Will the rookie ignite a new passion for him? Will he take a chance, grab hold of a lifeline, find a way to conquer his demons, find love, and discover a new purpose?
I love Danielle Jacks stories; they always find a way to burrow under my skin and into my heart. I think Sol and Ember were perfect for each other, but things weren’t ‘easy’ for them, and they had to work to find their happiness. I did enjoy the book, but I would’ve loved to have read a longer version of this story, as the story felt a bit rushed in places. I would have like more time to fully appreciate the characters and their emotive story.

Thank you, Danielle Jacks!

This was an enjoyable, short read. The story is told from the perspectives of each of the main characters, Sol and Ember. Sol is trying to reckon with injury and pain of losing his life’s path and Ember’s career is starting to take off. Though younger than Sol, she’s always had a crush and it may finally be the right time to explore her crush, while also helping Sol find his way back to life. The feelings and steam between the characters is palpable.

Overall, this was an enjoyable story with fairly well developed characters; however there were time I was hoping for more depth. The story moves at a fast pace due to its length, but the reader is fulfilled in a complete story. This can be read in a single sitting and was worth the time.

This was a decent book. I absolutely loved the storyline! But I had a few issues with this one. First of all, Maris forgave Pasha way too fast to me. I could never. Saying it like this to avoid spoilers, anyway. The story was very fast paced. And while it made this a very quick read, everything felt super rushed and some parts of the plot just kind of ran together to mebecause of that. I feel like if it was slowed down just a tad it would have made the plot better. I loved the mermaid and human aspect! I rarely see novels about mermaids so this was definitely refreshing and I enjoyed that. So while I really want to rate this higher I just can’t because of my frustration with some of the characters, because I really wanted to shake some sense into them, lol!

When one accident happens and you lose everything. That’s what’s going on when we enter the firehouse 13 world in Burned By Fire. A story about finding oneself and learning to accept the love given to you.
Solomon saved 2 children from a fire, but he paid the ultimate price. His career is gone. Forced in early retirement by the fire department due to extensive injuries he’s become a lost soul.
Ember’s hero was hurt and he’s spiraling faster than anyone can help him. She still pushes and tries though. She also uses that time to be honest with him.
This book is a wonderful story of redemption. Though Solomon feels his life is over. The author has him go through the trials and tribulations dealing with life after tragedy. I’ve seen people with injuries and mental health struggle. So this story hits home for me. I’ve also seen those people take a lot longer to move forward. Which is why this is a fictional romance, but a beautiful one at that!

This is Sol and Ember’s story. He’s a bit of a grump but once you find out what happened to him the grumpiness makes a little sense.
He’s retired now and Ember is a fairly newly qualified. She’s had a secret crush on Sol for a while, there’s quite the age difference between them but really does that matter? This story took me on quite the emotional journey. I felt sadness for Sol but also anger at times The chemistry between them is definitely there regardless of the age difference. Sol has been forced to retire due an injury he sustained. This has led to him turning to the bottle to to deal. Ember is new rookie firefighter who has looked up to Sol as a mentor…while also harboring a crush. When they bump into each other, Ember wants to help him heal (heart and soul). However, they have her job and their age difference fighting against them! Will they give their love a chance? Or are they doomed from the start to be nothing more than a spark?

I enjoyed these characters. Ember is wise beyond her years. She is passionate about her career and mature than most her age. Sol is older…but not dealing with the loss of his job in a mature way. There were a few times when I had a hard time understanding his decision making, since he was a veteran firefighter, but I’m sure losing the ability to do what you love will make you do crazy things.

Overall, this is a quick read that is written in a way that makes you feel as though you are a part of the story. I have read a handful of books from this author and have never been disappointed. Another good story that I enjoyed reading!

I loved this story of Sol and Ember. This gave me all the feels of raw emotion of feeling like you lost your purpose in life, finding that someone who is behind you 100% and that you can find your purpose and have this special bond between two people.

Sol, a retired firefighter, is truly feeling like he lost his purpose after an accident and is trying to drown his sorrows in drink. His friends, including new recruit Ember, want Sol to get help, but Sol needs to be the one to help himself. Ember is all about her career and totally driven (which I love), but also loves and wants to support Sol to get better. Sol and Ember slowly discover the healing process Sol’s issues after the accident that left him unable to no longer work and that Ember wants to be there for him. Will Sol and Ember discover love is worth fighting and supporting each other for, even if there is some age gap? Definitely read and find out. I truly recommend this book, it is so good!!
