Burned By Fire by Danielle Jacks is the fourth book in the Firehouse 13 series, a multi-author collaboration. It is a bit of an angsty and emotional contemporary romance. A story about finding love unexpectedly, with a friends to lovers theme, firefighters, mentor/mentee relationship, age gap, secret crush, struggles with mental health issues, losing yourself to your inner demons, chemistry, connection, finding purpose, hope, and love.
It has some really sweet moments, but this isn’t a light and fluffy read. The story is emotional as we observe our MC struggle with his inner demons. Sol had lost himself when he had to retire early from the fire department due to injury. He gets stuck in a downward spiral of self-pity, regret, and alcohol. He had lost sight of everything that mattered and now risks losing everything. Will the rookie ignite a new passion for him? Will he take a chance, grab hold of a lifeline, find a way to conquer his demons, find love, and discover a new purpose?
I love Danielle Jacks stories; they always find a way to burrow under my skin and into my heart. I think Sol and Ember were perfect for each other, but things weren’t ‘easy’ for them, and they had to work to find their happiness. I did enjoy the book, but I would’ve loved to have read a longer version of this story, as the story felt a bit rushed in places. I would have like more time to fully appreciate the characters and their emotive story.

Thank you, Danielle Jacks!
