Murder At Music Hall (A True North Murder Mystery Book 1)Murder At Music Hall by A. J. Ullman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book introduces an absolutely gripping story that, at times, had me on the edge of my seat. What should be a straightforward murder investigation turned out to be anything but and the character had to navigate some complex situations. The story was intriguing and I wasn’t always sure which way the author would take it, which made it more exciting to read.
The book is full of twists and turns and it is great to see how the character handles everything that is thrown at him. The author has created a really exciting book that is full of suspense and mystery. This is a fantastic start to a new series and I cannot wait to read more.

This is a really good start to a new mystery series. This author does it again. He writes some amazing mysteries that have a dark feel to them. This is a story that has that feel of suspense and mystery. I sat down to start it and finished it fairly quick with a few interruptions from life. I didn’t want to put it down. The bit interruptions in this story are the rich high and mighty. It’s funny how they always insert themselves in the way. This is a story that will grab you right from the get go and you won’t be able to put it down until you are done.

Ava gets confused in her feelings for King but she knows she needs him more now than ever, more than King will understand. Carson wants Ava to be declared dead so he can get her inheritance. But that doesn’t work out to Carson’s plan, nor Ava’s. Kingston maybe twisted in his ways of love and treatment of Ava but as in book one he will destroy everyone and everything for Ava. Murder At Music Hall (A True North Murder Mystery Book 1)Murder At Music Hall by A. J. Ullman

AJ has done it again! He has set the bar high with this first book Murder At Music Hall, A True North Murder Mystery. It is the beginning of what is set to be a great series. I love me some good crime stories. AJ does dark crime stories well and just like his And The River Runs Deep this one is cleverly crafted and intriguing.
It had me spellbound with the mystery and suspense, intrigue and drama, angst and wondering. I was so consumed by and swept away by the story and the emotions that I soon found the book had ended.
True knows this case is going to take everything he has and thinking outside the box is the only way he can get it done. Oh, it’s not the murder investigation he has to worry about. No! it is the rich, manipulating SOB’s that are going to be the biggest hurdles to get around.
This well plotted gripping tale draws you in to the darkness and those in the shadows, it sends thrills down your spine and feeling the stress and tension that is palpable and leaping of the pages. It was a long night of reading because even if I wanted to, I could not put it down.
This story is full of lies and betrayal, and manipulation. It is an engrossing tale full of twists and turns.
I found myself devouring every word turning page after page and I am looking forward to reading more from AJ.

Retired homicide detective Trueman “True” North knew death like he had a PhD from the Grim Reaper. He takes a case from the richest man in town, St. John Skidmore, to find out who murdered his son, Stoddard Skidmore. True thinks this will be another by-the-book investigation. He doesn’t count on the meddling of Skidmore’s daughter, Kitty, nor that of Skidmore’s ruthless business competitor. Even the orchestra that hired Stoddard has more phantoms than an opera.
In the land of the uber-rich, True learns, “And Justice For All” doesn’t apply. Some people want to buy him off, warn him off or seduce him to prevent him from finding the truth. Some will challenge North to hang on to his notion of what is just — not to mention his girlfriend as well as his life. If he doesn’t find the killer, an innocent man will rot in prison and a murderer walks.
When True does find the killer, that knowledge inverts all his ideas of justice when you arrive at the intersection of vengeance and mercy. He learns that the system is flawed when being rich and powerful outweigh verity. And sometimes, he learns, doing the wrong thing is the exact right thing.

A Heart So Savage (The Savage Duet #2)A Heart So Savage by April Moran
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the conclusion to The Savage Duet. This is not a sweet romance. This story is dark and like the name says savage. Kingston and Ava have to find their way in this world. He wants her protected but he can’t seem to protect her from himself. This is the type of story where he would burn down the world for her. I loved watching the way this story played out and how much the characters learned about themselves along the way.

He falls. She falls… but oh what a fall…kind of like one of this free falls that has you in the edge of your seat and has you questioning everything as you watch to see what is going to happen. This ending was action packed for Ava and Kingston and leads to their Happily Ever After and I’m (finger crossed) hoping to a beginning for Oliver.

A Heart So Savage (The Savage Duet Book 2)

Even after reading the first book in the duet i knew what type of man Kingston was and I really didn’t want to like him, but he worked his way in no matter how hard I fought it.

This book had my head spinning with everything that happened and I found myself flipping page after page to see what was going to happen and how everything would work itself out.

Ava did a lot of growing up and losing of her naivete. She also developed a back bone little by little, especially when dealing with Kingston.

I love the sweet love stories but there is something amazingly interesting a guy with a dark soul.

I cannot wait to read more by Ms. Moran, see her becoming a favorite of mine pretty quick.

This was a great 5 star read. I love dark romance and this did not disappoint. We start right where book 1 ended, I was on the edge of my seat reading this. I really liked both Kingston and Ava, I really like the alpha bad boys. Ava is a strong character as well and as Kingstons captive she starts to fall for him. We get some very hot and steamy moments. Overall this was a great read. We get several twists and turns. I will warn there may be some triggers for some. You really need to read book 1 before this one. If you like dark romance this would be a read for you. I look forward to reading more from this author. 1-click and get started today.

I was doing my best to patiently wait for this book, and I’m pleased to say that it is a deliciously dark romance that kept me awake for hours just so I could finish in one sitting! Without giving anything detrimental to the story away, I *highly* recommend reading the first book in the duet. The chemistry that King and Ava have is no joke, but this book doesn’t just rely on steamy scenes for a plot. There is plenty of intense danger, action, drama, and a rollercoaster of emotions throughout that will have you at the edge of your seat. Although Kingston was far from my favorite person in the first book of this duet, getting more of his background here really does a nice job humanizing him, even if it is still twisted. If you’re looking for a steamy, tantalizing dark romance to devour, look no further. This is your sign!

Oh. My. Goodness.

I am an avid dark romance reader and this book checked all the boxes. I would definitely check for triggers before reading this. This is my first book by April Moran and it did not disappoint! I was hooked with every sentence and couldn’t wait to see where their unlikely romance headed.

A brief blurb:

This book was about Kingston taking Ava to pay for her brother’s debt. What Kingston thought was just a regular transaction for him, turns into something more.

This is book two to this series and I must tell you that if you are not a fan of violence, dark romance, dubcon, mature langue, sensitive content, adult situations, jealous/possessive themes, and the such then this book is NOT for you! If you can get passed that type of content, then check this dark romance out! This also can’t be read as a stand alone. You need to read the first book to fully understand where this one starts and is heading. So Ava is a prisoner. Kidnapped and trapped by Kingston for her brother’s debt (2.6 million). Instead of selling her to the highest bidder he has decided to keep her. She belongs to Kingston now and she rebels at almost every turn. Which makes him want to punish her and break her into submission. She craves his touch just as much as he wants to touch her, but the hate is clear in their eyes. He will have her break so he can put her back together again. All while she tries to win his heart so she can escape. Both falling but both don’t see the danger rushing towards them. This is a book about a villain and his captive. He always gets his way. But will he this time? Such a great story. I wasn’t prepared when I read the first one, but once I started this one I knew what kind of content to expect.

I was not prepared for this book at all. With that being said, it was wonderfully done!! If you are not a fan of violence, dark romance, dubcon, mature langue, sensitive content, adult situations, jealous/possessive themes, and the such then this book is NOT for you! If you can get passed that type on content then check this out! You might really enjoy it. This book is all about the villain getting what he wants. Which was a great twist really! Kingston is a bully. He gets what he wants or he takes it by force. He protects what is his. He’s a business man kingpin. Ava is a sweet little lamb. So naïve and pure. Ava’s brother unfortunately owes Kingston money. A LOT of money. 2.6 million to be exact! Due to this he has Ava kidnapped and he plans on selling her to highest bidder, if her brother doesn’t pay up. He wants to break her and have her submit to everything he wants, but she’s got a wild-fire streak. He can’t wait to snuff it out while he takes her to new places she’s never even dreamt of. This is just book one to the story and man oh man is it steamy! You can’t help but love AND hate these characters for various reasons. You will want book two asap after reading this one. Trust me! I grabbed them both and can’t wait to read more!!

A Heart So Savage is a continuation from book one in April Moran’s Savage Duet and should really be read second (in order). The first book ended on a cliff hanger so that A Heart So Savage could pick up where we left off. I was lucky to find this duet when both books had already been released so it was a very smooth read and I was invested immediately. I liked A Heart So Savage even more than book one, it was pulse racing and filled with a lot of entertainment, especially after the “introductions” were long out of the way. The characters are as dark and steamy as the storyline and April Moran writes dark romance well! I hope to read more in the future.

This is the second book in the Savage Duet. It follows on from the first, so I would highly recommend reading the first prior to this one.

As with the first book, this is a dark romance which may not be suitable for readers who find violence and dominance triggering especially given how the relationship began in the first book.

I still love the characters of Kingston and Ava, Ava in particular. She remains strong despite everything which has been uncovered and what she has gone through. She knows who she is and stays true to herself.
She’s determined on revenge and the danger increases. Kingston grew on me even more in this book as he continues to try to protect Ava and get revenge for her.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this duet and will be looking out for more from this author!

This is the first book in the Savage Duet and oh my, I wasn’t expecting to get so engrossed so soon. I will point out that this romance does get very dark so I would not recommend this for everyone, there are definitely things which could be triggering to some e.g. abductor and violence.

The characters, Kingston and Ava, are strong and memorable. I enjoyed the background to their initial connections between Kingston and Ava’s family, I felt it fit in nicely with their relationship journey.
Ava was my favourite of the pair and I loved discovering how she was next going to be defiant. Given what she’d been through her strength was another element in her that I loved.

While I would not agree with how the romance played out if it was one of my loved ones, I 100% loved reading it and getting drawn into the characters.

I am so glad to have been able to move straight onto the next book, otherwise I’m not sure how I would have coped.

This is the first book in this series and what a great start it is. This is a dark romance story that may have some triggers for some but if you can get past those you will find a great story. This is a well written story where there is alot going on in which the author did a great job of keeping the story flowing. A story where a debt needs to be paid, a kingdom on the verge of take over and a captive that is determined to be broken. I enjoyed how the author used details to make this story come to life. It has a realistic feel and the characters pull you into their world. There is great chemistry and growth with the characters which made the story hard to put down. A fast paced, engaging story that I found easy to read. This is a story that you don’t want to miss. I highly recommend this book.

I found this book to be well written where the characters bring the story to life. They are connectable, strong characters that bring heat and romance to a new level. This is a dark romance that contains triggers for some but if you can get past them, you will find a great romance story. I enjoyed reading this book as much, if not more than the first. Ok so I am going to start off by saying that I am a huge idiot! Do yourself a huge favour and start with book 1 like you are supposed too. Everything will just make so much more sense and you won’t have to try and piece things together as you read like I did. Even though I had to do that I enjoyed this book so much and I’ll be grabbing book one and doing a full read again including re-reading this. This wonderful author whose character depth and intriguing storylines definitely should not be missed is someone whose books I will gladly read again and again . Kingston and Ava falling in love amongst so much violence was a pull on the heart strings for sure and the heat between them is off the charts.

A Heart So Savage (The Savage Duet Book 2) by April Moran. This is the second installment in the Savage Duet series and I would highly recommend reading the 1st book before this one. This book picks right up from the first book and is the continuing story of Ava being kept prisoner by Kingston (King). Ava is attracted to King even though she doesn’t want to be. King has always collected things and Ava is no exception. He is so attracted to her that he wants to protect her which is unusual for King. I felt like Ava was stronger in the first part of the book and in the second she was more defeated and just accepting her fate. Ava also learns that she can’t trust a lot of people that she thought she could including some of her own family. In the second part of the book we also see some of Kings background including he and his brother being abused by their father. Which makes things more understandable in the way he treats people. When King is injured Ava has to make a decision, does she stay or leave. Such a good read!

I can only imagine what it must have been like to have your world turned on its axis like the way Ava did. She’s smart, brilliant, and a strong woman for enduring the things she has.

Kingston… oh boy.. a lot can be said about that one. Possessive, obsessive, and antihero if I ever saw one. Despite the insanity he puts her through himself, the man doesn’t tolerate anyone else harming her, and that’s not something that abuse survivors typically see. He’s a force to be reckoned with.

Together… holy mackerel… the heat, the tension, the fire is intense. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

A Heart So Savage (The Savage Duet Book 2) by April Moran – Review by Jessica Stone

I’m not going to lie I am so happy that I read the first book to this one basically back to back, I don’t know how long I could have waited to find out what was going to happen to King and Ava.

This book picks up right after the events of the first book, so if you haven’t read book one, stop what you’re doing go back and read it first and then come back, honestly you’d miss out on a ton of you tried to read this.

So I’m super into the forced proximity, reluctant relationship these two have. King is DEEP in his feelings for Ava and after everything they’ve been through it’s only fitting that Ava spend the majority of this book questioning basically her sanity for feeling the things she does for him, and loving the way he makes her feel. And let’s be honest, we all want to feel like kinky sex goddesses sometimes. King and his resolute feelings for Ava break me a bit, he’s gone through a lot, and though we knew he was “intrigued” with Ava, fascinated I guess to see him fall into love with Ava was heart melting.

I love the twists this book throws in with its characters, some from the first book and some new players! But please definitely watch out for trigger warnings going into this book, it gets down to the nitty gritty, lays it all bare but I think that’s what makes the story so intriguing. The author isn’t afraid to tell the story, and sometimes things can get ugly, but that makes the resolutions so much sweeter.

UHMM! Oliver what??? If you’ve read the first book, as you should, you’ll know what I’m talking about! I was blown away by that wildcard! Super hope we get a book about him and his redemption! I would love to read more like this from the author, dark mafia romance done right. Secretly hoping I can find my own Kingston one day. 🤞🏻
