Tompkin’s School: For The Dearly Departed (A Supernatural Academy Trilogy Book 2) by Tabi Slick – Review by Bobbi Wagner

Tompkin's School For The Dearly Departed (Supernatural Trilogy #2)Tompkin’s School For The Dearly Departed by Tabi Slick
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the second book in this series which I highly suggest reading the previous book first. I enjoyed this paranormal, fantasy story just as much as the first one. This story is full of magic powers and limits are pushed. Kain and Izara are back in this story with a battle between good and evil. They are faced with a newcomer that they are not sure they should trust. They must save the school. Will they do it or will the things lurking in the dark get them first? I enjoy the twins, they are among my favorite characters. They really do make the story for me and keep me turning pages just to see what they will do next. This is a great story that I highly recommend.

Alamir, Blood of Kaos is the first Book is this new series and it is a great start, Etain is a very powerful woman who came into her power in a bloody and messy way. She is constantly trying to decide who she is able to trust and who is out to get her. While Miller does an impressive job of weaving a tale full of descriptive action scenes and well-developed characters, the strongest point of this story is the supporting characters such as Spirit and Inferno. These characters give color and depth of the story that would otherwise be two dimensional.

Miller is an amazing author who impresses me with her ability to take characters from pages into reality. I am excited for book two.

Alamir (Blood of Kaos Series Book 1) by Nesa Miller, was an epic love story, epic action and adventure story and an epic save the world story. So much going on in this story. Mystery, intrigue, revenge, I am sure I’ve forgotten some. It’s a little difficult to pin this story down to a genre as it sounds like elements of several. Fantasy, science fiction, horror and more. The characters are fully fleshed, and the world is intricately constructed. The love story between Etain and Dar has all the tension of a tightly wound spring. A very creative, keep you on your toes story.

Alamir: Blood of Kaos Series by Nesa Miller. Let me start with the fact this was outside my read comfort zone but I’m trying to branch out and boy am I glad I did. From page one I knew I was in for an interesting story and I was not disappointed. The characters are complex and truly draw you into their world. The storyline is well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. This author has a wonderful way of keeping readers completely hooked and on the edge of their seats with the twists and turns. Even the smallest details are focused on and truly bring the story to life right before my eyes. I’m giving this story a four star review and highly recommend it. Looking forward to more from this author for sure!

by Nesa Miller

This book took me on a great adventure of action and wonderful characters. The story line kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat. Etain didn’t know who she could trust, and I felt like I was right there with her. I didn’t know what was going to happen next. Etain is a very strong character and we get to see her grow in this story. There are some other really great characters in this book that you won’t want to miss out on. I cannot wait to read what’s next in this series. I highly recommend this book.

Alamir, Blood of Kaos Series, Book 1Alamir, Blood of Kaos Series, Book 1 by Nesa Miller
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Alamir is the first book in Nesa Miller’s Blood of Kaos series. It’s an exhilarating fantasy story centring on a young woman, Etain, whose magical powers have brought her to a world vaster and more dangerous than she could have imagined.
Miller has created a really detailed and grounded fantasy world. There is something of the urban fantasy to it, with some events taking place in the modern human realm, but there are many unfamiliar and original aspects of the world that we get to explore through the story.
I particularly liked the use of Celtic languages. The Welsh in particular added to the sense of place and it was so wonderful to encounter the languages when I wasn’t expecting it! (and don’t worry – translations are provided so you won’t miss out on important information).
My favourite character is Spirit. I appreciated how much agency she had, even when underestimated by others. Her observation and understanding of others, as well as other powers such as healing, lead her to be a really important and loveable character!
For me, this is a five-star book. A thoroughly enjoyable fantasy with plenty of original and unexpected aspects. I would recommend it to fans of supernatural stories with tight, messy family relationships.

This mystical fantasy was a great start to an amazing read. From first listen, I was enthralled with not only each character but their past and how it affected each one of them in so many different ways to the point where their past defined their present, their future and the way they operated because of that. You were captivated so much from loss, love, lust, betrayal and the impacts of distress, grief, loss and the way their trauma impacted their life. I don’t want to give too much away other than that but this was worth every single page to get engulfed in!

Alamir by Nesa Miller

Narrated by Ashley Nicole Stevens

Five Stars

Alamir: Blood of Kaos is the first book of the Blood of Kaos by Nesa Miller. This book is the first book I have read by Ms. Miller but definitely won’t be the last. This story was an amazing and original story of light and dark. Etain and Adar are fantastic characters the grow as the story moves along. I can’t wait to listen/read the second book in this series.

This narrator is Ashley Nicole Stevens is a new to me narrator also. I enjoyed her tone and speed of the reading. She really brought the characters to life.  I highly recommend this book.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is one of those dark and detailed fantasy books that you just get completely lost in and lose track of the world going on around you. Alamir was instantly on my TBR as soon as I saw the breathtaking cover come across my feed and I was itching to find out what the story behind it was going to be. It definitely did not disappoint and I am even more elated to find out there will be more books within this series to devour.

Alamir introduces us to Etain, an ordinary gal at first until an event changes everything. She is left to figure out where she fits in the new world of the Alamir, and help to keep the balance between the good and evil surrounding her. Her new powers are just the tip of the iceberg and she finds herself in some adventurous situations. I felt transplanted into this fantasy world and I loved every moment of it. Bring on book two!

This fantasy hooked me in with in the first page and I couldn’t stop reading it. The story has wonderful characters, it is is well written, and I liked that it clearly shows the points of view of the different characters. Valentina works hard to survive but realizes she needs to find employment somewhere other than at home after her parent’s disappearance. She finds herself working for a lord taking care of his twin daughters in a house that is protected by magic. This book is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Frost and I cannot wait to read more of her books.

I have to say, , House of Illusions by Pippa J. Frost, had me. And when I say it had me, I had no clue what was going on till very near the end. I did have my suspicions after the ice scenario, but if you are one of those folks who like to figure it out before the picture is drawn, (I am), that’s way too late. An excellent dark fantasy romance that I enjoyed immensely. Danger and tension in all the right places, love and longing, its all wrapped up in this book in a package you will enjoy. I did have a little anxiety going on because Nisse and Sixtus were both great characters and I was really worried about who Valentina would choose. I think she chose well.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Alamir: Blood of Kaos Series by Nesa Miller, 4 stars.

I will admit, this book confused me at first. I did not really understand where it was going or who was important. I do not give up on books easily though and am glad that I did not on this one. It turned out to be a fabulous story, full of twists and turns and so captivating. Etain goes through so much in this book and is constantly learning and growing. She has to decide whom to trust when others tell her not to. She has to make decisions that affect not only herself — quite possibly the hardest decisions there are. I really enjoyed her as a main character.

Of course, this book is about so much more than just her. The other characters really add to this book and each in their own way will have you loving or hating them — or possibly both. At times, it is hard to decide who is the “good guy”. Then there is the story itself. I did not see most of the things coming and was constantly on edge for what would happen next. I loved it.

If you are a fan of fantasy with strong female leads, this book is for you.

“Overhead the master of the night, a luminous globe of light, stood proudly with an army of knights adorned in twinkling armor stretching across the dark velvet sky. I’d count on their radiance to guide me.”

Wow. What an enchanting world Pippa J. Frost has created with House of Illusions. She’s not only got a way with words that made my prose loving heart happy, but she created such a beautiful world that I just wasn’t ready to leave when the end came.
The prologue had me hooked and by the time I was a few chapters in, I couldn’t stop devouring this adventure. There are so many enchanted creatures in this book, and Frost made it entirely believable that humans live alongside them. I so wish this had been a series instead of a stand-alone just to see more of the characters and magic. This is getting added to my re-read list so I can explore all the “Illusions” with eyes wide open.

P.S. I’ll gladly spearhead Team Lord Winslow forever and ever.

I was hooked from beginning to end. The authors writing was fantastic and a wonderful introduction to her as a new to me author! I cannot wait for read more from her. The descriptive language and writing the author uses is one of the best I have ever read, I could imagine every little detail she was talking about. I loved Valentina, she was such a great character to read about and following her on her journey was great. There were so many wonderful twists and turns in the story it really was exciting to read and I couldn’t put it down at all. It was great to read something so different and although I love romance I’m not a huge fantasy fan but this book was just amazing!
I 100% recommend this book to other readers and I cannot wait to read more from Ms Frost in the future!

A well written story, which has elements of dark fantasy and romance. Valentina is a fighter, who works hard for her living. After the disappearance of her parents, her brother’s drinking habits gets her family into trouble. The man she has given her heart to, leaves her behind to travel the world.
One night, unable to bear her brother’s tantrums, she escapes the house and seeks asylum in a wealthy man’s house. Everything seems to be going well for her there, little does she know that there is magic around the house.
And when a darker force rises in the town, she ventures to stop it.
Nisse, the other protagonist has a soft corner on Valentina and when he finds her missing in the mansion, he sets off in a quest to find her.
In the backdrop, there is a war raging between dwarves and the humans. Will Valentina and Nisse be able to bring back peace between them? This forms the crux of the story.
It is a breezy read with elements of fantasy, magic, suspense and romance. The narration happens in the point of view from multiple characters, which makes the book more interesting.
I really enjoyed this book!

The plotline is what kept me turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next. The characters are intriguing as well. I felt as if the characters were alive and were in my world. I felt the need to keep turning the pages to see what is coming next. This story is about Valentina and Nisse. They need to get the dwarves and humans together and bring peace across the land. This was my first book by Nesa Miller. The beginning of this book had me slightly confused but it ended up working out. Our lead female character is Etain, a human turned Alamir. Our main male character in my opinion is Dar- Lord Darknight. There are multiple players in this story and they’re all a great supporting cast. This story was well written and a unique take on lovers who have a hard time finding their time to be together. It was a good story and I look forward to the next book.

House of Illusions: A Dark Fantasy RomanceHouse of Illusions: A Dark Fantasy Romance by Pippa J. Frost
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

House of Illusions is an enchanting fantasy novel by Pippa J. Frost. It is set in the Swiss Alps, and draws on local folklore to create an immersive magical world.
The narrative passes between the perspectives of many characters, always clearly indicated at the start of the chapter. This lets the reader see the story unfolding across multiple settings, as we begin to piece together the puzzle. There are plenty of twists and turns and, as the title suggests, you can’t always trust what you see.
For me, the best thing about this book was the setting. It reminded me of childhood visits to the alps and the stories I was told about dwarves and dragons. The descriptions of the landscape and details such as plants really enhanced the vivid picture Frost paints.
I found it hard to warm to the characters as we are always aware that not all of them can be trusted. But by the end, once I knew who was really on Valentina’s side, I definitely had some favourites! And Valentina herself is an admirable protagonist, with a strong sense of duty and self-preservation.
For me, this is a five-star book. I would definitely recommend it to fantasy fans! This book will transport you and draw you into a fantastic story. I’m looking forward to reading more by Frost in the future!

I loved how Frost started this story. It was a beginning that immediately pulled me in and caused me to understand more about our heroine and her world. This fantasy felt tangible and epic. I really appreciated the world building and the class distinction that was outlined. I thought the characters were well developed and a great amount of thought was used to develop this world and all of its inhabitants.
