House of Illusions by Pippa J. Frost

Frost has really outdone herself with this book! Fantastic writing and realistic characters. House of Illusions is a great story with all kinds of twists and turns.

Valentina is a normal human girl. Well, she thought she was. The one she is in love with has left, but she isn’t sure if he feels the same. Left to deal with her parents death and her brother’s bad habits things aren’t as they seem. The quote I choose for Valentina is: “They keep my mind busy and off what lies beyond these walls.”

Nisse has left the village to travel among the world. Adventures he can’t wait to go on. When the thoughts of a young girl keeps entering his mind he comes home. What he sees angers him as he knows her brother isn’t treating her correctly. He loves her, but knows she’d never feel that way for him. The quote I choose for Nisse is: “If she will have me.”

Highly recommended for the dark fantasy and romance lovers.

Alamir (Blood of Kaos Series #1) by Nesa Miller

My first read by the author and wow. Miller sure knows how to write a fantasy and romance. Alamir is a fantastic book and I can’t wait for the next book.

Etain came to Alamir when her family was killed. She wasn’t looking for love, but she was looking to have revenge against her family’s killer. She found friends among the people she stays with and has also found a family. The quote I choose for Etain is: “I have been your lady since we first met. As for the other… Give me time.”

Darknight, Dar, wasn’t looking for love, but he was looking for company. He’s a twin of sorts, but doesn’t want to live with his brother. Things get difficult when he starts feeling differently. The quote I choose for Dar is: “The destruction you saw was the demolition of a past that has held me back. I do not know what the future holds, but I am ready to face it. I see now I have made a mess of it. At the end of the day, it comes down to what you want.”

Highly recommended for romance lovers with a twist of fantasy and drama. I loved this and will be waiting for book 2.

Alamir is the first book in the Blood of Kaos Series by Nesa Miller. This is an exciting read and focuses on the character of Etain. She is an interesting character who is having to decide if the fairy tales she grew up on are real or fiction. Sometimes reality is stranger than fiction. This is a pretty fast paced story built in a fantasy world. I enjoyed the characters and story as well as the world building. Overall, this is an interesting start to a series. It introduced a lot of characters, and I am curious where the story will go next. I like the conflict and the struggle Etain goes through which I think helps make her a believable character. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Alamir is the first book in the Blood of Kaos Series by Nesa Miller. This is a bit of a darkish fantasy- with plenty of action, adventure, danger, paranormal elements, drama, twists, mystery, romance, wonderful world building, and intriguing characters.
As I have said before, Ms. Miller really knows how to weave an engrossing story- and has also created a really impressive, original, and entirely believable world in which to set her story. So descriptive and vividly detailed, it was really easy to ‘picture’ everything as the story was brought to life before my eyes.
These characters are all very interesting, fully developed individuals with their own personalities, quirks, and flaws. There is a fairly large cast of characters, but each plays their part wonderfully well, and adds interest to the overall storyline.
So, if you love a great fantasy, with intriguing characters, and a wonderfully exciting plot that will keep you engrossed the whole way through- then this is definitely the book for you.
A superb start for the series.

Thank you, Ms. Miller!

House of Illusions: A Dark Fantasy Romance by Pippa J Frost is an exciting story that knows how to keep you turning the pages. I found this book to be a really easy book to get in to. The story was well written and engaging I had no trouble at all with sinking in to it.
I enjoyed reading about the characters. They were written in such a way that they complimented each other so well. Even though it is a fantasy story I could imagine them and felt like I was sharing in their journey. They really added to the story and took the book to a new depth. I really enjoyed reading this book and I am exciting to discover more of this authors work.

Alamir: Blood of Kaos by Nesa Miller is an exciting fantasy story with some really interesting characters. Etian is a strong and wilful heroine that is thrown unexpectedly into a world that she didn’t believe existed.
For me this book was made by the characters. I thought each of them had a unique take about them and they all worked together to make the story stronger. The overall writing itself I found to be a little disjointed although the story was exciting to read. It definitely felt like the first book in the series and I am convinced that it will only get better as the series goes on.
I am looking forward to see where the author takes this series and I am certainly looking forward to reading more of these brilliant characters.

I enjoyed this fantasy story. It brings action and an adventure you won’t soon forget. This is my favorite by this author yet. One thing I enjoy about this author is how I am pulled into the story right from the beginning and this book is no different. This is a well written story that has characters that bring the story to life. I had no issues connecting to them. This is a story about Etain. She grew up with the stories and what she thought were fairy tales about Alamir. In truth these stories were more of a teaching for her destiny. She was taken in by a clan after an assassin took her family from her. Now she is determined to find the demon. Will one encounter mean life or death for her? I enjoyed her character alot. She is a strong character that made the story entertaining and easy to read. This is a dark fantasy that I highly recommend.

I enjoyed this magical fairytale of dwarves and humans. This is an engaging story that pulled me in right from the beginning. It is full of magic and secrets that are buried inside. This is a well developed story that kept me turning pages. The characters made the story easy to read and made the story feel realistic. This story is about Valentina and Nisse. Together will they find a way to bring peace to the dwarves and humans again? Will fate allow them to find the happiness they so deserve? They are great characters that I really enjoyed throughout the story. Together they brought the story to life. I highly recommend reading their story.

House of Illusions
By Pippa J. Frost
5 out of 5 stars

I loved reading the book House of Illusions by Pippa J. Frost. It is a fantasy story that pulled me in and didn’t let me go until the final page. I found myself lost in the pages and not wanting to put the book down. I loved reading about the characters of Valentina and Nisse. I grew to care about what happens to them with each chapter that I read. Other additional characters are also enjoyable to read about and some who are only out for themselves with their evil agenda. The author does a wonderful job in world-building and I felt like I was right there with the characters. This is a story that includes danger, a bit of romance, and a curse. The words and characters come alive from the pages and I found myself turning pages to find out what happens next. I just had to know how it all turns out. Don’t miss out on an intriguing and entertaining book that should be added to the top of your TBR list of stories. I highly recommend it.

The first book in “The Dark Trilogy” DARK sets up a whole new world the likes of which I’ve never read before. It’s a really cool premise. New explorations and discovery.

The writing is detailed and confusing at the same time. At times it is very visual, but I’m not quite sure WHAT I was supposed to be visualizing (I know this doesn’t make sense, you have to read the book to “get it”.

I will continue with the series and I look forward to having my questions answered.

I needed something different and I definitely got that by going totally out of my comfort zone with this book. This is my first read by this author and even though this is not a chosen everyday genre for me it filled the bill for what I was looking for and I’m kind of thinking I will be looking for whatever else he might have available.

It was the writing that had me hooked and once I got going and comfortable I had a hard time putting it down. It was easy for me to stay involved because I never got so out there confused like normal while reading this genre and I really appreciated that.

I actually felt like I was roaming through the tunnels, or the pipes with Dun, Tali, and Padj and was scared through most of this book as I’m extremely scared of the dark, which is why I think this book was the one I chose.

I’m actually looking forward to reading the next in this series and that kind of surprises me.

I highly recommend this book especially if your looking for something outside of your safe little box like I was.

Dark (The Dark Series #1) by Paul L Arvidson is a fantasy sci fi story and is a dark tale. It is a story that has plenty of mystery and adventure, action and danger that keeps you intrigued. There were unexpected twists and turns and the world building was good, which helped to make it a reality that was believable. I did however think that the story could be
expanded a little more in some areas but it did not detract from the overall story. I really liked the characters, they are well developed and I enjoyed their humour. Dark is a place that has no light and the people live in a labyrinth of pipes and drains.

Dun and his friends are tasked with finding out what has become of their neighbours which sets them on an unexpected journey where the danger and horror are palpable and discoveries are just as mysterious and enlightening.

I look forward to what Paul has in store for us next.

Dark by PAUL ARVIDSON. Let me start by saying this book is WAY outside my normal reading enjoyments. However that didn’t stop me from sinking into this very original and different type of story. The author does a great job of writing a story that can be imagined quite vividly. I’m not the best judge when it comes to these types of stories but I’d have to say it’s well worth a read because as I stated even with it being outside my norm I was really impressed with the storyline and its characters. It’s definitely an adventure for readers and I liked that a lot. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. Im happy to say it’s opened my eyes and mind to pushing away from my norm. I’m giving this story a five star review and highly recommend it.

Dark by Paul L Arvidson is unlike any book I have ever read before. This science fiction meets fantasy was different and extremely fantastic. Pipes and drains make up the labyrinth called the Dark, all surrounding an area called the River. Dun, who wants answers to his horrible dreams and armed with a half-finished map given to him by his father, he sets off Tali and Padj. This takes Dun far away from the only home he’s ever know and into a world that he never thought that he would see.

I could NOT put this down and loved diving into the creation the author gave us. Dark, twists and turns, and a strong story line make this a read that I highly recommend. I give this book four stars and can not wait to see where this series leads!

Dark (The Dark Trilogy Book 1)Dark by Paul L. Arvidson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Dark (The Dark Trilogy Book 1) by Paul L. Arvidson, 4 stars.

Dun is just a normal young adult living among his people, the bridge-folk. Well, maybe not that normal. He begins having these dreams that seem like more than dreams. Then the elders of his folk decide that he should set out on a journey to find more information about odd things happening lately. He, along with two friends, sets out on a journey leading them to many adventures and discover just how little they really know. But will they find answers or just more questions?

This is a young adult adventure fantasy book. Most of it revolves around the journey itself. The characters are quite interesting and easy to like. The story is very good and like nothing I have read before. The places they go, the decisions they have to make, all make the story more complex and interesting. There is a little bit of every emotion in this book — not to mention the twists and turns this book takes. You will never guess just what is coming next.

If you enjoy fantasy with wonderful world building and great characters, this book is for you.

Dark the first book in the series by Paul Arvidson is a beautifully written Sci-Fi fantasy book. This is my first book by this author so I did not have any preconceived thoughts of what to expect. Arvidson’s story is well thought out, characters are fully developed, and keeps you guessing on what is coming down the pike. One thing I really love about Sci-FI is that there are no rules. Arvidson created a new world that kept me turning the pages because I could not wait to see what was happening next. Dark is a planet on which Dun with his two friends are on a journey through a labyrinth. There are missing elements that Dun is trying to seek out. He is having dreams, but he is not sure if they mean anything. Will Dun and his friends make it through the labyrinth? What other dangers will they encounter?

Dark
By Paul L. Arvidson
☆☆☆☆
You will find Dark to be in the fantasy world. Which will also have a mystery, as well as much needed answers.

Dun, Padg, and Tali set out to get answers. They travel through vents and pipes. Them being chosen by the fellow Bridge Folk. Their adventure will have them traveling many miles. In search of answers. I should mention, the boys are actually blind and therefore traveling in the Dark. They do however use their other senses to get them by. Their adventure will be interesting, but no spoilers from me. You will just need to read it.

This may not be my genre. But I truly enjoyed reading Paul L. Arvidson book. This is a real page turner, one you won’t be able to put down. His character’s are perfect for this fantasy story. While parts of the story threw me. I still enjoyed the mysteries told by Paul L. Arvidson. I will be curious to see where he goes from here.

Dark is the first book in The Dark Trilogy series.

This story is a fantastic sci-fi fantasy adventure. I love the way the characters are written and how unique the setting is. One of the interesting things in this story is the way that the characters experience everything without using the sense of sight. I enjoyed how the author used the sense of proprioception as one of the main avenues for the characters exploring their world. It isn’t something a lot of books use.

Dark catches your interest from the beginning and holds it with unanswered questions that only have hints dropped throughout. It is fun to speculate what is going to happen based on the clues.

Definitely looking forward to reading the next book!!!

Dark by Paul L. Arvidson is the first book in the Dark Trilogy. This is such a unique story that had me captivated from the moment I read the description.
I didn’t know what to expect from this story really when I went in to it. I was completely unfamiliar with this author but excited to see what the book had in store. While I did have a few minor issues with it I have to say I really enjoyed the story overall. The premise of it was so original and like nothing I have ever read before.
I also really felt drawn to Dun. There was something about the way he was written that I enjoyed. I wanted him to discover everything he could and to try and make sense of his dreams. His companions were also likeable and worked well with his character.
This is a strong start to a new series and I cannot wait to see what the next instalment brings.
