A well written fantasy book that took me to places I didn’t expect. Sloane , the main character we meet in the very beginning is strong and is finding her way. Her friend Alvie is exactly the one Sloane needs with her. The author writes beautifully and makes it easy to think we are along side the characters as they deal with their experiences. Thank you for reminding me how much I love fantasy books and bringing this beautiful work to us readers.

Dark romance that has you guessing on which path the story will take. The chemistry crackles between King and Ava, you want them to work but you are not sure how it will go. Intense story that had me captivated. A really wonderful duet.

You need to read the first book in this series prior to this one for context!
This book is as dark and twisted as the previous one. Now that Ava and Kingston both know that Ava’s brother will not be paying the ransom, decisions must be made. And there are people waiting for them to make the wrong ones. As time passes, and their feelings towards each other seem to be growing stronger, are the decisions they are making the right ones? There is a lot of backstory in this book regarding Kingston and Oliver…and why they are the way they are.
I enjoyed every morsel of this book…the spice, the chaos, the protectiveness, and the darkness. You can feel Ava’s anguish about trusting her own feelings…the protectiveness from Kingston…and the craziness of Oliver. I thoroughly enjoyed this duet and am crossing my fingers (and toes) that Oliver will get his own book next!

4.5 stars There are warnings for trigger content so make sure to read that before reading this story. A Heart So Savage is the second devilish book in The Savage Duet and just like the first book A King So Savage it is gritty, raw, bloody, and deadly. Some of my favourite things in dark romances and April does it so well. I can’t get enough. It is a captivating dark romance that will set you on fire. The characters are complex and intriguing and make the story. Ava is a prisoner of his twisted mind and world. He is dark intense, dominant, possessive, and an utterly irresistible man. She knows what needs to be done and he just has to let her. King is a dark, violent and sadistic alpha male of the underworld. He is someone you will love to hate and hate to love. He will do anything to protect her in his own twisted way, but she may just be the one that saves them both. It is a captivating romance tale with darkness, possessiveness, obsessiveness, angst, drama, violence, emotions, secrets, danger, secrets, danger, and so much more. This is one duet that you don’t want to miss. I can’t wait for more of this genre from April.

Ava is the main character and is “a lost girl searching for a safe place to belong.” Because aren’t we all a little lost, looking for a place to belong? This story certainly hits all the feels. Even Ava is confused by her feelings as the story progresses. I love the way this story develops and how the characters’ feelings shift.
“Hatred and despair had morphed into something else…something savage.”
Kingston doesn’t seem as mean in this story, but we do learn more about his enemies, well Ava’s enemies. It seems Kingston was right about those wanting to hurt her. But it’s the who that adds to the twist of the knife!
Again, this author touches on some subjects that may cause questions within the reader. Anger, fear, repulsion, concern, lust, interest, confusion to name a few. This duet is violent, sexy in a rough way, and being a romantic at heart I can see the hope building for a happily ever after.

A heart so savage was a great ending to Ava and Kingston’s story. The conclusion was so good. I couldn’t put the book down. So many questions were answered and there was so much suspense and action. Wow. I want to say, I didn’t see that happening but I kinda did. Just not to that extent. Shocked is an understatement. This boon had it all. It was emotional, hot, and just all together crazy. I love Kingston and Ava and love how Kingston says she was always his from that day he saw her in her parents kitchen. He was like a man obsessed. I’m so glad he did what he did by stealing Ava for Carson’s debt. The last few chapters had me doing crazy. Ava is one head strong girl and is perfect for Kingston. I couldn’t picture him being with anyone else but her. I must say, I might even have a tiny soft spot for Oliver now. Another great read. I’m so glad I was able to read the savage duet. It was pure perfection

This book packed just as much of a punch as the first in this duet. Ava is still being held hostage by Kingston but the action starts and things begin to change as the story goes on. I found the action and family/mob drama to kind of exciting throughout the story. The spicy romance level is off the charts but there is a darkness to it. The story had a fairly smooth flow throughout the whole piece. I found the whole duet to be good overall. This is definitely mean to be read together, not as a standalone.

I’m sitting here trying to come up with something more than WOW! This is a dark cliffhanging romance that may not be for everyone. I enjoy reading them from time to time depending on what I have been reading, always nice to change it up and this is definitely very different than the last several books I have read.
Ava and Kingston are definitely not your common characters. Ava is light where Kingston is dark. I liked Ava immediately with the fight she had in her, Kingston is a different story but there is obviously more to him than we know at this point and maybe more than he knows about himself.
Thankfully I don’t have to wait too long to read the next book, patience isn’t something I have when I’m this invested. Looking forward to seeing how this all plays out.

WOW! I absolutely adored every single page of this marvelous dark romance! I had only read one book by this author before, but it had blown me away so much that I clearly remember their name when this one popped up. There was zero hesitation in giving this book a chance. There is so much drama, suspense, angst and all the steamy scenes throughout and I may have yelled at Kingston a time or two. Reading about him and Ava had me feeling every emotion under the sun. I also like that the author included a playlist which always intrigues me. There are twists and turns that I didn’t see coming but I won’t give anything away! I cannot wait to pick up the second book, but while we’re waiting for it, I highly recommend getting lost in this one!

This book was terrific, I loved every single moment of it to be honest. If you looking for a spicy, reluctant, forced proximity, touch her and die, contemporary dark twisted romance, this is the book for you. I honestly didn’t know what I was getting myself into, but it defiantly gave some Den of Vipers/Haunting Adeline vibes with the main characters King’s obsession with his captive Ava. This story was masterfully done, the relationships between characters were steamy, an antsy, dark and dangerous, it really just checked all the boxes for me. King being this kind of morally gray character and Ava being portrayed as this naive girl, who should known better but somehow doesn’t and coming to terms with who she really is as she grows throughout this book under Kings dare I say tutelage was enjoyable to read.
The premise of this story is basically Ava is kidnapped by King to pay off her brothers debt to him. They know each other from the past, he’s always been attracted to her but never acted on that attraction, until now. I will say this isn’t for the faint of heart and by that I mean make sure to check out the trigger warning provided by the author but don’t let them dissuade you from reading this book. If you do, you are definitely missing out.
I don’t know much about this author, but this book was very well written in my opinion, it flowed cohesively, the plot and story were there and the “romance” was just right. I’m absolutely interested in reading more from this author if this is what her writing is like. Once I picked this booked up it was a struggle to put it down and do other things with my day, I devoured this book.

What a story to finish my 2023 reads with. I loved this story from beginning to end. It was exciting, dark, dangerous and so much more. I have to say I LOVED Ava! She was so fun to read about. She was not going to lie down and take whatever King threw at her, she definitely had a backbone and stood up to him. King is one of those characters that you know you shouldn’t like but can’t really help it – he is dark and he is absolutely a villain – he is not a nice person but his protectiveness of Ava to some extent makes him a little bit likeable. The cliff-hanger at the end has me eagerly anticipating book 2!

Wow what can I say about this book. It had me gripped from the first page and didn’t let go. It is book 1 in The Savage Duet and I definately can’t wait to read the second part. The is a very dark romance. The main male character Kingston is a very dark character. Some may even call him sadistic. When it comes to Ava he is very controlling and he wants her complete submission no matter what it takes to get it. Ava is also a strong character. I love how feisty and determined she is to protect herself and defend herself however even all Ava’s strength and determination can’t stop her from falling for the one man she hates and dispises.
Ava and Kingston’s paths crossed years earlier when Ava was a young teenager. Ever since that day Kingston was wanted her but out of respect for her father he never made a move. Now with Ava’s brother owing him money he sees his opportunity to finally get the woman he wants whether she is willing or not. It’s simple if Ava’s brother pays off the debt he will release Ava, if the debt isn’t paid then Kingston will sell her to the highest bidder. However as feelings start to grow Kingston realises that no one is ever going to have her but him.
However Ava isn’t as willing to go along with this plan. When she is kidnapped she tries everything in her power to escape and she proves herself to be defiant to every things Kingston tells her to do. However it’s not long before she can no long deny how her body reacts to him and as much as her head is telling her to fight against it and him, her body is rebelling at every turn.
This is a dark steamy romance with some topics some people may not enjoy reading. There is the captive/abductor story as well as violence that some readers may feel triggered by. Overall for me I loved it. The whole cat and mouse feeling to it and how they both tested each other is really what captivated me in the story. I can’t wait for the next one

Although it took a bit to get into, once I got into it. I could not put it down. I devoured the last 50% + in a night / morning. I cannot wait to read the second part. Watching Ava change and her character development was amazing!! My heart broke for her a few times but it did for Kingston also. They honestly are perfect for one and other in a very complex way. The book is dark and definitely intended for mature adults. Enemies to lovers! Which can be very triggering. April’s writing style is unique but it was great. Bring on #2!

I enjoyed how strong Ava is and how much she fights Kingston to get free of his clutches. Kingston is strong, dominating, and controlling. He won’t take no as an answer. The viewpoint changes between Ava and Kingston so you can get deep into the action. The scenes are good but since it is dark it puts me on the edge of my seat. I can’t wait to read the next book since it ends on a minor cliffhanger.

A King So Savage was the first book I’ve ever read by April Moran as well as the first book in the Savage Duet. Having never read this author before, I wasn’t sure what to expect but found myself impressed quickly. The story picks up immediately and leaves you invested until the cliff hanger ending. This is not a book trope I choose to read often so I welcomed the change of pace. I have read so many books lately that are written in alternating perspectives, I enjoyed that this book wasn’t written that way. While the book was fast paced, dark and entertaining, my favorite aspects were the little things like the playlist at the beginning of the book and the way each chapter begins with italicized phrases. I look forward to reading book two.

A King So Savage is the first book in The Savage Duet and is a wonderfully written Dark Romance/Mafia Romance that will have you turning the pages till the end. There’s plenty of drama, secrets, debts, danger, chemistry, family drama and so much more. King is the kind of man that gets what he wants when he wants it. King has wanted Ava a while now. Now is his chance to have her since her brother owes him a huge debt. King decides to take her. He’s a lot dangerous and even a bit intense but I love his character. Ava’s a strong independent woman who should be terrified of King but something about him draws her to him. Put these together and sparks fly! I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I’m looking forward to diving into book two.

It moved at a good pace. The locations were well detailed. I could picture everything very clearly. Hopefully in the next book she gets some revenge. I struggled to get through the noncon scenes. I expected to grow to understand or care for Kingston but it never happened.

Kingston Vaughn Winter saw a chance to finally have Ava Bella Blue in his grasps, kidnapping and holding her captive while her brother neglects to pay his debt. King finds himself enjoying Ava’s attempts to leave, in some ways she is just as ruthless as he is. King finds himself being protective with Ava but when she is put in danger on his watch he will do everything he can to claim her as his.
The blurb was what pulled my attention on this story. It is dark and once you start reading you cannot put it down. I liked Ava, she could have easily rolled over and waited for what happens but she gives King a run for his money. Great chemistry, can’t wait for the second book.

The Befallen, by Cambria Williams is a thrilling fantasy story. Sloane, who just wishes to not be invisible, embarks on a journey alone that her father would normally accompany her on. However, he cannot come this time and she has to be strong and go by herself. Sloane is disabled from a birth defect, but she doesn’t want to be special, just seen as a person. When she returns, things are not how she expected them to be. Tolvar has not had it easy but upon crossing paths with Sloane, he acquires to be better.
I absolutely loved Sloane and her strength. I felt the characters were well written and the depth of the development had me turning pages until the very end. I highly recommend and although this was my first book by Cambria Williams, I would not hesitate to pick up another story by this author!

Sloane was finally trusted by her family to go to the neighbouring town on her own to sell things at the market. Since she was crippled, all she ever wanted was to be considered “normal”. She loved not being on anyone else’s timeline and ended up staying the night. The next morning when Sloane returned home, everyone in her town was dead. The befallen had struck down the town in the night. Sloane immediately felt guilty for surviving. Deciding to move on in hopes of finding a life in a new town, she meets a group of knights whose sole job is finding the unsung hero of the prophecy, Sloane decides to help since she knows more about the moon goddesses and the prophecy itself.
Tolvar is a banished knight who is part of the group previously mentioned. He would rather get drunk somewhere and relax. He doesn’t think Sloane will be of any help but when she proves it by providing useful information, Tolvar gives in and lets her join the group.
I really enjoyed this book. I like how the author wrote one of the main characters as a handicapped person who doesn’t let that stop her. Sloane is strong and resilient. Tolvar is grumpy and closed off but somehow the couple makes it work for them. They work well together as an unlikely pair and I am excited to see what they do next.

A delicious and devious way to start the duet. There are so many characters that you don’t know how you feel about them until. There are many theme and trigger warnings with this one so be sure to pay attention. This one is way too good to not finish.
Ava leads a boring life. Her boyfriend is nice. Her job is fine. She is scraping by. But it is not that easy. Her brother is kind of a jerk. He has spent his way through the family fortune and is racking up huge debts he can’t pay.
Kingston has always known who and what he is. His father left no doubt or way he could be anything but. When Ava crossed his path the first time, she was too young and he wasn’t ready. Now he has a chance-ish to be with Ava, the girl that has haunted his dreams since she was just a knobby-kneed teen.
Thanks to her brother and unbeknownst to Ava, Ava was about to be sold to the highest bidder to cover some of the money the brother owes some bad people. Kingston just steps in first and takes Ava. Now he is holding her until the brother pays. The problem is twofold. One, Kingston wants Ava. Two, the brother doesn’t really want to pay the money back.
How will Ava escape with her mind and body intact? Does she really want to? Who can you trust when everyone else is looking out for themselves and using you to get what they want? Can you trust the one person that wants everything but is willing to give nothing in return? Or is no one and nothing what they seem? Hang on to your knickers while you find out.

I really wanted to like this one. It’s your typical trope of kidnapping the sister of a man who owes you money while driving her mad with lust and the ending on a cliff hanger. I think for me, there just needed to be a bit more editing. For those who are fans of this trope and genre, you will enjoy it. It just wasn’t for me.

Sloane, the female main character, lived a simple life as an apprentice to her father’s leatherworking in a small village. When Market Day comes around, Sloane gets the opportunity to sell their wares alone, despite the trip being long – especially with her disability – and finds success in her small adventure. Soon after, while on her way back home, she discovers something horrible has happened…the curse of the Befallen has claimed the lives of those she once knew. On the other side of the coin, we learn about Tolvar, the male main character, and his life as a disgraced knight and the struggles of his own life. The paths of our two main characters cross and become intertwined as they try to solve and remedy the problem that is the Befallen. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The Befallen is a dark fantasy with such a complex world and plot that it’s sure to hold your attention within the first few chapters and throughout the book.

Picking Up The Befallen by Cambria Williams, I was unsure of what to expect. Reading the book’s details I saw that it was a fantasy knight style book( which is not my usual go to fantasy read but Omgggggg, I’m soooo happy I gave it a go. It was good, really Imaginative. This book sends you on an incredible journey with some amazing characters. It has a slow start but really picks up in the second half but even when slow, you will be intrigued to keep going. I know I was! 🥰 it also have some good action scenes. I really cannot wait for more from this author in the near future.

This book has really dark undertones, but what the author did with it was pretty good. A King so Savage, was added to my reading list because I’m familiar with the author. And since I wasn’t feeling that great today, I figured I’d wrap up in a blanket and give it a go. It did take me all day because I wanted to sleep a few times, but I’m glad I pished through. Ava has been taken. Taken by a ruthless man who intends to use her for random against her brother. What this man doesn’t understand is her brother could careless about her. So she fights to escape. She also fights the twisted feelings she feels for him. Will she ever get away? Kingston has a plan, and Ava is the center of it. He caught wind that her brother intended to auction her off to pay his debts, well he can’t let that happen. So he took her instead. With the exact same plan if her brother refuses to do anything about it. One problem, he wants her for himself. Her feistiness fuels his sadistic nature. But she’s an innocent flower, he can’t follow his desires. Or can he? The rollercoaster ride this book put you on is a lot. A lot of passion! A lot of pain! If you can handle both of those topics you should dive deeper into this story like I did. It’s a duet so be prepared for another book to read after. Enjoy!

A King so Savage by April Moran is the first book in a Duet. This is April Moran’s debut into the Dark Mafia Romance world and it did not disappoint. Check your trigger warnings before reading as some themes may be uncomfortable for some readers. Also, if you are into it there is a playlist that goes along with the book that can be found linked in the beginning pages of the book. This story follows Kingston Winter and Ava Bella Blue. Kingston takes Ava captive because of a large debt owed to him by her brother. This beautifully written story will leave you with all the emotions. You will be frustrated and angry, as well as hooked and surprised. These characters are flawed and well written. Making this story enthralling and spicy. 4 out of 5 Stars.

I really enjoyed this fantasy romance. It’s the perfect reluctant heroine meets brooding love interest, which makes for a truly wonderful pairing that I always enjoy and in this case there’s just some gorgeous chemistry between the two main characters. The setting and world-building were also fun to read, with just enough magic to make the entire novel feel beautiful and special. A really lovely read.
