Death and the Crone
The Lucky Devil Series
Book 3
By Megan Mackie
☆☆☆☆☆

Margaret is a 60 year old homeless lady. One lucky night a handsome young man invites her to his home. She has no reason to live and figures she gone anyway. She has no fight left, and feels this guy is going to kill her. But don’t think she gives in easily, she fights him all the way. But you won’t find spoilers here. So read Margaret’s story, and see where she goes.

Megan Mackie is a new to me author. I love looking for new authors. She did not disappoint. I enjoyed reading her story, and loved her characters. Elias is not who I had expected. In fact her story really surprised me. Great story Margaret Mackie. Now I will head out to read the other books in this series.

Death and the Crone: Book Three of the Lucky Devil Series
by Megan Mackie was a good 4 star read. This book pulled me right in.

Margaret is a homeless woman in Chicago who meets Elias, a very good looking young man. He invites her to come home with him, of course Margaret had her suspicions, but she went.
She isn’t a happy woman and has her doubts about how her life will be.

The more time she spends with Elias she starts to see and feel things. His home is also very mysterious and magical.

Will Elias be able to help Margaret?

Overall I really enjoyed this read, there are twists and turns that add great elements to the story. The secondary characters were great. I really liked both Margaret and Elias. My emotions were all over the place with Margaret and her story. I suggest reading the series in order, however this can be read as a stand alone. I was pulled right in by Megan’s writing, I can’t wait to read more.

Ok, so I was hesitant to read this book because I wasn’t sure if it was satire or fan fiction or just a snub at the genre all together. I’m so glad I pushed my worry aside and cracked the binding.

The story line is one that we are familiar with but it has so many different angles that it is fresh and new (even though the characters are not).

I can’t go into much without giving away spoilers – I do want to say this though… It is listed as book 3 of a series and gives a vague reference to the series it is a part of. You know how there are those series or anthologies written by a bunch of different authors that have a slight common thread but don’t seem to really connect to the “theme”? This book is kind of like that. I really don’t think you have to read anything else in the series to have a firm grasp of the setting or plot points.

I say give it go; I don’t think you will be disappointed.

This is the third book in the Lucky Devil Series and i highly recommend reading the two previous books because some of the same characters carry over into this book and it just makes the reading experience better. This story was well written as all of her others are and it was refreshing to read something that was a little out of the norm for the books that are currently out. Margaret is our main character who is honestly just sick of life and believes that her life isn’t worth anything anymore. When a mysteriously handsome man picks her up on the street and takes her back to his luxurious apartment, Margaret has finally come to terms that this might be the end for her. But the stranger isn’t what he seems and he has a secret that will changer her life forever. We will just have to see if the change for the better or are things headed down an even more crazy path than before?
I cannot wait to read more by this author and i would recommend this book to a friend.

Death and the Crone is the third book in the Three of the Lucky Devil series by Megan Mackie. I would highly recommend reading the first two books in the series so you can meet some of the characters from the other two stories. I have to admit I did not know who Megan Mackie was before I was referred to her books, but now I love her writing. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a fresh author to start reading. This story is set in Chicago, which is where I grew up. It was fun looking at Chicago from a different point of view. Margaret is the main female character who is older and really has given up. She just does not see a positive end to her life. She has been asked by this stranger to come back to his apartment and that is where the story picks up. She learns that there is a silver lining in her cloud and not she needs to ride the wave. Will Margaret’s savior be all that he cracks up to be? Will Margaret feel like life is a journey she wants to continue?

I was intrigued by this book. I am so glad I decided to read it, I love that Margaret was an older character even if she was hard to like in the beginning because she was so grumpy, but life had not been good to her. This story had mystery a little bit of magic and I found it very well written. I was pulled into the story from the beginning and had a hard time putting it down. I found this story to be original and definitely worth reading. I recommend this book.

By: Megan Mackie
My Rating: 5 of 5 stars

Death and the Crone (The Lucky Devil Series Book 3) by Megan Mackie was a hooking, unique, outstanding read, that had me flipping the pages late into the night. Why does work have to ruin good books?

Not my first read by this author or in this series, I was super excited to get my hands on it. I will say that this book isn’t actually book three of the Lucky Devil Series, it’s a story set in that world, with different MC’s and plot. So it can be read as a standalone, and as a side story to the main one. But I do suggest reading the other books, because they are, amazing.

This book was so fun, unique and just, wow. It took the over used concept of the 100 year old supernatural something or other, that falls in love with the 16 year old minor, and flips it on its head. This book was all about taking those over use tropes and clichés and destroying them, while making new ones. The plot itself is original, and grabs your attention right away. Like the other books, this book has that spark of adventure and danger, keeping you engaged. The detail was movie like, and helped round out the story and characters.

Overall this book is a super high recommendation from me. So please take my stamp of approval that, this book will hook you right from that opening scene, until the last pages of that wicket closing ending.

Happy Reading

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Death and the Crone: Book Three of the Lucky Devil Series by Megan Mackie, 5 stars.

Margaret has had a rough life. She’s now in her late 60s, has lived on the streets for many years, and has given up on life. She has outlived many of those she’s known and cannot wait for this hell to be over — she’s tired of her demons following her. When a beautiful young man takes her off the streets and offers for her to stay with him, she’s sure he’s taking her home to have his fun then kill her. But the promise of food and a warm place is just too tempting. And as time goes by, he doesn’t try anything but to make her comfortable and happy. Turns out this man is more than she ever imagined. Can she find a happiness that she lost a long, long time ago? If so, at what cost?

This series had me hooked from the beginning and this book is no different in that aspect. This book is considered a spin-off, we don’t see too much of most of the characters from the previous books, but the setting is the same. The main characters in this book though are just as interesting. This combination is not something I have read before. I read this genre quite frequently and I love that the author threw something different at me. The story itself is good too, Margaret struggles with the way she has been living vs what she has now. There is mystery in this man too — she knows there’s more to him and her curiosity gets the better of her. She takes us on the road of discovery with her. The story grabs you and pulls you in, not to mention some surprises along the way. This book can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend the whole series.

If you are a fan of urban fantasy and/or paranormal romance, this book is for you.

4 stars

Death and the Crone is not the first book I’ve read in Megan Mackie’s Lucky Devil Series but if desired I believe this installment could be read on it’s own with little or no difficulty.
I most enjoyed Death and the Crone because of the break from a stereotypical storyline/main character. Instead of being young and easily desirable, Margaret is older with a much more colorful past. This book had me intrigued from
start to finish with a rocky road of action and adventure. While I did mention I believed this book could be read as a stand alone, I recommend reading the other books in the series before it as well for a bigger picture. I’ve truly learned to appreciate Megan Mackie’s style of writing and I’m looking forward to reading more.

Death and the Crone is the third book in the Lucky Devil Series by Megan Mackie. This book can be read as a stand alone, but you should really read this series in order because it is so entertaining from beginning to the end. I love that Margaret is an older woman and it’s really hard to decipher Elias and his motives. This story had me hooked from the beginning to the end. It is magnificently witty and such a different character builder this the age difference in the characters. Without giving away any spoilers I highly recommend this book and it is definitely worth the time reading. I can’t wait to see what Megan Mackie has in store for us.

Death and the Crone by Megan Mackie is the third book in the Lucky Devil series. This book can be read as a stand-alone book however the whole series is fantastic so I would recommend reading them all!
I have to admit, after reading the blurb for this book I was a little unsure as to whether or not I would like it. I’m not a huge fan of books where the women are older, I struggle to connect with them more. However I should have never doubted the work of Ms Mackie because she did a fantastic job wit this story. I really enjoyed reading about Margaret. The way her character was introduced really made me feel for her. It gave the emotional connection that I find is so often missing from older characters. And her character development throughout was so well done.
The storyline was overall ok, although not for me the best in this series. It felt a little more disconnected from the other books. However it was still a great read and one you should definitely try!

This was a departure for me from my normal in several ways. I feel like I should preface my review with the fact that this book is more a standalone addition to the Lucky Devil Series. There are few moments where we see hints of the previous books but it is all done in a way you could completely read this book on its own without confusion. With that said, I did enjoy the book.

Megan Mackie takes an age old story and gives it a completely new spin with Margaret and her beau. I enjoyed the newness and really that was what made the novel for me. I will be back to see what happens in the next novel, fingers crossed that it continues our other two novels because I am dying to dive back into their worlds.

This is the third book that I have read by this author and again I really enjoyed it. Although part of a series this book had more of a standalone feel than the others so I think it could be easily read without reading the first two books however I would highly recommend those also!
The authors writing is very good, she knows how to capture your interest straight away. The storyline was strong and the characters were interesting to read about. I liked that the story was a little different to what I was expecting; it’s always nice when a story isn’t predictable. It was nice to see characters from the previous two books crossover into this one; it did help tie the series together in my opinion. Margaret and Elias were very interesting characters and definitely not what I was expecting! I enjoyed following their story and all the twists and turns that came with it.
Another wonderful read from Ms Mackie and one that I highly recommend! I look forward to reading more from her again in the future!

Death and the Crone by Megan MacKie a five-star read that will turn you on your head. This is number three in the Lucky Devil series and it could be read as stand-alone, but I have read the series and loved them all. It’s the way the author turns what you think on its head and gives you a different side of the story. Margret is a great character and will make you read her great story, she is fresh and interesting and gives us great wit to her character. Elias was brilliantly written, the whole unsureness about who he was and what he was that unfolded like a flower as you read it. The settling was great, and you can smell the Chicago streets as you read the pages. This is a great series and one you will enjoy.

This is the third in the Lucky Devil Series but can be read as a stand alone. The flows very nicely and before I knew it I was caught up in the story. The characters are good. Margaret is a drug addict. She knows there is nothing else in life for her but that. Elias finds her and removes her. He gets her cleaned up to start or finish her life. They each get something they don’t expect out of this.

This is a good story. I kinda figured out the “what” was happening but not really the “why”. It was weird at first but then became intriguing. I needed to know how their story would end. The author did a good job of pulling me into the story until I couldn’t wait to find out what happened

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Death and the Crone by Megan Mackie is the third book in the Lucky Devils series. This is a book with a cool twist to the typical YA paranormal story. Margaret is an older, homeless woman who has been burned many times. She is invited to a strangers house and does not expect that she will live the night. The story is interesting and kept me reading to find out what would come of Margaret and the mysterious stranger. I have read the other books in the series but I believe this could be enjoyed without having read them first. The story is set in Chicago but with a paranormal twist. The idea of the familiar but unfamiliar all at once leads to an interesting background for this book and the others. The characters are also interesting and break some of the molds of the genre. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Death and the Crone is Book 3 in The Lucky Devil Series. After reading the previous two books in the series I was more than happy to get the follow on book, but this one intrigued me even more as the storyline and the characters are not something that you would usually put together in a supernatural/fantasy read.
But nonetheless, this book was just as interesting, captivating and packed full to the brim. The storyline was easy to follow, the characters are well developed and it was an enjoyable book from start to finish.

This author definitely has a creative writing style that’s captivating and enjoyable in every way, and I continue to enjoy her reads every time. I highly recommend this read and look forward to what else is to come from this series.

Death and the Crone: Book Three of the Lucky Devil Series by Megan Mackie. I really enjoyed the first two books in this series and was so excited to see Elias get his story. The characters are well developed and the story idea was intriguing but for me, it did not hold the promise I expected it to be. I wanted more, something a little more explosive, a little more of the story reaching out and really gripping me and making me part of the story.

Margaret is a grumpy and grouchy old woman and I know she had a tough life but I could not fully engage with her. I did feel for her and the evil that had attached to her and created such a sad soul.

Elias going after a much older woman makes you wonder what is going on but as the story continues you understand what he has always seen in Margaret and what she becomes.

Even though I had higher expectations does not mean the story was not well written and a good story. I know that anyone that enjoys fantasy and a little mystic and magic
will enjoy it.

Death and the Crone: Book Three of the Lucky Devil Series by Megan Mackie fantasy novel with a romantic undertone. Following the previous books in the Lucky Devil Series, the author weaves the reader in a different direction but with some of the mythical elements that have been seen in the other novels. Margaret is a feisty woman, yet she has flaws that shine. Yet, there is something about her character that calls to you in a way to see what is ahead for her. Elias is more than he seems and the mystery around him is intriguing and captivating. This is my third book by this author as well as in this series. This one felt more like a stand alone set in Chicago although the appearance of some from the books that came before was a welcome addition.

I got kind of confused a few times which is something that normally happens when I read books from this genre which is not a chosen genre of mine. I had to read this one though as I had read the first two and my curiosity got the better of me. Although these books still have not won me over on the genre I did in fact enjoy the writing style of this author and absolutely would read more.

I did like that the female lead in this story was not your typical beautiful 25 year old although her views of herself and life were kind of sad at the beginning I found following her through this adventure was enjoyable, and like her I had the same views of Elias when the story started, wasn’t exactly sure what he was all about.

I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys these types of books and I highly recommend this author for anyone that just enjoys quality writing.

5 out of 5 stars

The story Death and the Crone (The Lucky Devil Series Book 3) by Megan Mackie is a wonderful fantasy book that I enjoyed reading. It draws you in right from the start and I found myself getting lost in the story. I enjoyed reading about Margaret and the handsome stranger that she meets. Margaret is a woman who I found to not have a lot of hope. She is homeless and feels unwanted. She is very suspicious when an attractive stranger invites her to his home. Who is this stranger? What does he want with Margaret? I found the stranger is someone who seems to care about Margaret. He is very mysterious. What does the future hold for Margaret? Read this book to find out. This story is one that once you start will not let you go until you have read the final page. Mystery and questions abound. There are other characters that are introduced and interact with Margaret and the stranger. The story is emotional at times. There are some moments that are sad and others that speak to your heart. Highly recommended reading.

Why should the sexy immortal guy always go for the sixteen-year-old?

Margaret has given up on life. In her late sixties, homeless and unwanted by society, it seemed a logical thing to go with this rich, handsome stranger back to his expensive apartment. Sure, it probably would mean her death, but what did she have to lose anyway? But instead of finding her death, Margaret learns that nothing in her savior’s world is what it seems, including herself.
