I give Death and the Crone: Book Three of the Lucky Devil Series by Megan Mackie, 5 stars.

Margaret has had a rough life. She’s now in her late 60s, has lived on the streets for many years, and has given up on life. She has outlived many of those she’s known and cannot wait for this hell to be over — she’s tired of her demons following her. When a beautiful young man takes her off the streets and offers for her to stay with him, she’s sure he’s taking her home to have his fun then kill her. But the promise of food and a warm place is just too tempting. And as time goes by, he doesn’t try anything but to make her comfortable and happy. Turns out this man is more than she ever imagined. Can she find a happiness that she lost a long, long time ago? If so, at what cost?

This series had me hooked from the beginning and this book is no different in that aspect. This book is considered a spin-off, we don’t see too much of most of the characters from the previous books, but the setting is the same. The main characters in this book though are just as interesting. This combination is not something I have read before. I read this genre quite frequently and I love that the author threw something different at me. The story itself is good too, Margaret struggles with the way she has been living vs what she has now. There is mystery in this man too — she knows there’s more to him and her curiosity gets the better of her. She takes us on the road of discovery with her. The story grabs you and pulls you in, not to mention some surprises along the way. This book can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend the whole series.

If you are a fan of urban fantasy and/or paranormal romance, this book is for you.
