Every now and then I come across a book that I struggle with when it comes time to sit down and review. Not because the book was bad but because the book can’t possibly be summed up by my words adequately I feel in a way that could possibly equate the greatness that is the book. This happens to be the case with this one and I just was not expecting it to say the least. I don’t normally choose the sci-fi genre to begin with but this cover drew me in and made me read the synopsis which in turn made me want this journey in my head. I am so glad I picked it up and took the chance because this is one I will be purchasing a hardcopy of to devour over and over again and love thoroughly for years to come. The vivid words and world this author builds inside this book is one I felt as if I walked in myself. She painted this world so beautifully that I felt as if I was there myself. I could see this play out before my eyes as if I could touch the colors and the elements. This could make an amazing movie in the right hands. I won’t ruin anything by sharing much more than what is already shared in the synopsis but you won’t be sad that you picked up this novel. It is one that will make you think and relish all in one sitting. What more could you ask for? I can’t wait to see what comes next!

The chronology is somewhat distorted, which, having a migraine, like the main character does in the beginning of the story, is a typical occurrence. So with that disruption of linear time, we go on a self reflection for a better understanding of self. interesting concept with interesting characters and I can’t wait to continue the story in the next book.

I don’t read sci-fi books, but holy cow this book definitely changed my mind and my outlook on them. Deborah has a way of catching your attention and keeping it throughout the whole book. I actually felt like I was learning so much while reading this book. I felt like I was right there with the characters and doing everything with them. I just couldn’t put this book down at all. This book really does take you on a journey.

Oh wow.
Man is very hard to describe a book with a few words without spoiling it. I believe that whoever wants to find a fine adventure will turn their heads into this direction.
The author did an amazing job with the story and h9onestly the description made a lot of noise in my head (the good kind) im stocked about the development on the story and the creation of this adventure that the Traveler has to achive. Great characters and super engaging story.

This book sounded interesting when I saw it. It really isn’t my normal read but I figured I would give it a shot and I’m glad I did. My only complaint is that I wish this book was longer, I didn’t want it to end. It has a different take on on first contact and I liked it because it not your normal read. You will want to read this ASAP.

Tristan is a man with few friend, but a fulfilling life as a structural engineer, he designs buildings for a living and enjoys the process, just like he enjoyed the studying he had to do to be able to do it, however, one day after a terrible migraine, he sees a spiders leg coming out of the air vent and starts to panic, however, when this spider starts to talk to him, it sends him over the edge. The Traveler has spent many years trying to make contact with someone who will give him the time of day, he has observed Tristan and thinks that he might be the one to finally talk to him, but what he didn’t expect was that Tristan has arachnophobia, so The Traveler has to step in and hope that it doesn’t cause a problem with his plan.

When Tristan wakes up and realises that the spider is real, he doesn’t want to accept that, or the fact that it can communicate with him and he thinks that it is a set up, however, as more time passes and The Traveler begins to tell his tale, Tristan becomes more and more sure that this is someone, or something that he wants to know more about and The Traveler is more than happy to tell his story to Tristan.

As the two spend more time together, Tristan starts to realise that maybe his self-imposed isolation isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and has to do some soul searching while he isn’t talking to The Traveler, while The Traveler is hoping that the more he opens up to Tristan, the more hope he has of fulfilling his mission and this be his final learning experience, can he truly feel and encompass all the feelings he has inside him from learned experience and will Tristan be able to overcome the barriers he has placed around himself and allow the true identity of The Traveler to reveal itself? This is an uplifting sci-fi tale of experiences and learning curves, told from the viewpoint of someone not of this world while helping another to work through their experiences and emotions to become a better person, as you follow on this voyage across time.

The Traveler (The Traveler, Book 1) by Deborah Dugan. This book was so fun. Its a time travel book and it was told so well that I felt like I was actually there. The main character is a traveler who has traveled all over time meeting different humans so he can tell his story. When he meets Tristan he’s more than willing to listen. The traveler has come back as a spider and Tristan is deathly afraid of spiders so the relationship is tense at the beginning. Learning from one another they become great friends and really help each other. This book is full of action, sci fi, mystery and oddities. I’m not a huge sci fi fan but I really enjoyed this book. It kept my attention and I was truly intrigued by it. The start was a little slow but it picked up a lot toward the end! If you are a sci fi fan do yourself a favor and read this book!

This book stars with an amazing premise, aliens, time travel, and it has everything to be amazing, the downfall is that the action develops slow, and to people that has trigger with tarantulas or with giant spiders, maybe it’s not the best book since our alien is in the body of a big tarantula…

The action develops slow and with lots of descriptions, for instance;

“I reach the gravel driveway where the truck is parked and notice the left front tire is a little low, but it should be all right until I can take care of it after work.”

This kind of descriptions, Tristan thoughts about things or actions that he is doing happen quite a lot and that is one of the reasons why the story develops slowly, if you like action paced books, perhaps it’s not the right book for you, but I also need to tell that it gets better with each part in the book, so take that as you seem fit ^_~

What a fantastic sci-fi novel! It grabs your attention from the very beginning, and I could hardly put it down. I loved following Tristan’s journey as he learns of the aliens around him. It was strange but also appealing. I would definitely not call this a fluffy read, because it does make you think. I can’t wait to read more from her. If you like sci-fi or fantasy, then this is the book for you!

This book was very different on all levels. You felt this story, and you vividly experienced the journey as it was told. Harry was a great story teller, and his journey was detailed from start to finish.
This story was Science Fiction at its finest, and purely intricate and imaginative. Harry and Tristan were great characters and as they learn from each other you see a long lasting friendship in the making.

I really loved this story of a traveller. It was engaging and entertaining. The author made the story realistic that you could imagine it really happening. The concept of the traveller being a spider was a unique twist and made the story more entertaining seeing things from that point of view.

It’s a story full of adventure and time travel. I love how the traveler has travelled over space and time to learn all he can  about humans. And then he meets Tristan and he tries to make him see the world through his eyes. But Tristan is deathly afraid of spiders which is the the travellers new form so the relationship gets off to a rocky start.
The traveller needs to tell his story and Tristian is a willing listener. The traveller takes him on on adventure through time and space to understand who he really is. He’s not a spider but not a robot. But will his story be too much for Tristian to hear?
Will Tristian listen to him or will he turn his back on him like so many have before. Will Tristan learn from him or will his self absorbed ways rule him.

It’s a great fast paced story that keeps you gripped wondering what happened next and how they can make their unlikely friendship work.

This book was amazing, and full of visual effects for the reader, and I really found I had such an experience while I was reading this, it was amazing for everything. I really felt I was right there learning, exploring as well as questioning. This book impacted my brain and was honestly a truly amazing read of a book!

The Traveler tells his story, but for me he more than tells it! He takes you on a journey that can not be described my basic words. You lived is journey, felt his journey of all thigs he experienced. It was amazing to feel all that from reading this book! He is telling the story to another character, that in more than one way truly needed to hear the stories and experiences of The Traveler. I did not realize how much or the impact could be till I got towards the end! All I can say is Wow! Just wow!

I am a big Sci-fi fan myself, but this one is nothing else like anything I have gotten to experience. It was ground breaking and breathtaking all at the same time. The book is one that has to be experienced, and there is no exceptions that will say otherwise! A story that intrigues and amazes you throughout the read!

I loved the sci-fi side of the story, as well as the feelings and emotions I felt truly as I read this book and heard The Traveler’s story of life and the experiences that came with it. This story and book literally swept me away. I loved it so much, it was amazing truly. It is a must read, and yes I highly recommend!

The Traveler is the first book in The Traveler series, and debut novel, by Deborah Dugan. It is a fantasy/sci-fi with time travel, adventure, originality, imagination, and a touch of the bizarre.
What a wonderfully strange and unusual tale this turned out to be- in a good way. I am still thinking about it all this time later- so it definitely made an impression. It was quite unexpected- as I dove in blind, without reading the blurb- just going off the title, cover, and the fact that it showed up as a recommended sci-fi read. So, it took a beat or two to get my head around what I was reading.
The Traveler is an ancient ‘being’ who has travelled the universe and taken on various forms over time, as a means to gaining knowledge and power. We take a front row seat as he tells his lengthy story to Tristan, a human, with a few issues of his own. What happens when The Traveler finishes his story? Well worth the read to find out.
A unique, interesting, and fun read.
Happy reading!

Thank you, Deborah Dugan!

This was a very intriguing fantasy story. I loved the twists in the story. What a well-written story. The characters are well-written. The story sucks you in from the beginning and holds you until the end. I can’t tell you much more. You truly have to experience this story. It’s worth the purchase. You’ll love it as much as I did. I would give it more than a 5 if I could.

This is a Sci Fi fantasy story that is the debut book for this author. It is a good start to the series. The characters were interesting, and I enjoyed the world building. The author admits she is an avid fan of sciencey stuff and has studied quantum physics, metaphysics, and all things extra-terrestrial and that passion certainly shines through in her writing. This creative tale is definitely unique, a bit quirky and a little unusual but it works.
The ancient being The Traveler has a lot to share and those he meets have a lot to learn. A new friendship is born as The Travelers tale unfolds.
If you like Sci Fi you like this story.

I enjoyed this sci-fi adventure story. This is a new author for me which I enjoyed her writing style and attention to details. I enjoyed being pulled into the story by the characters and the adventure they took me on. They are relatable and keep the story engaging. This is a faster paced story that was hard to put down. I couldn’t wait to see what would happen on the next page. This is a story about a traveler that the further they go the more knowledge is gained along with emotions such as anger, joy and love. It is a great story that you don’t know what will happen until it does. I highly recommend this book, it is a great pick up.

The Traveler (The Traveler, Book 1) by Deborah Dugan
Genre – General Science Fiction, Fantasy, First Contact Science Fiction

Humans believe First Contact would happen by extraterrestrials coming to Earth, or by humans going into space.
But… what if they’re wrong?
A no-nonsense structural engineer takes the world for granted and gives little to nothing of himself to others. He prefers the distance it provides, until one chance meeting with the Traveler changes everything. Now Tristan has some hard lessons to learn and a few inner demons to conquer. Will he be able to step outside himself and see “the other” as they truly are?
As old as the galaxies themselves, the Traveler has taken on many bodily forms. For every first contact, it becomes increasingly more intricate than the last and equally as dangerous. Occasionally, a chance meeting comes along and brings the undeniable pleasures of joy and love. What will it experience with Tristan?
