What a great read. The characters were all fantastically written, the story line, interesting and entertaining and the fantastical world they live in, wonderful.

Tess and Ben are such a great couple. She is self conscious about her appearance because of scars she receives from her family years prior. Tess is a strong, courageous woman but a little on the shy side. I feel like she doesn’t think she is an asset to anyone in her life, but in reality everyone loves her and appreciates all that she does at The Lodge and Ben thinks she is beautiful regardless of her appearance and wants to be with her.

It is aggravating that Ben doesn’t just fess up and tell Tess his feelings until he is pushed to when he has to move back “home” to protect the people of the Lodge, especially Tess. It is a relief when the two finally share their attraction and feelings for one another and team up to find the murderer.

This is a good read, I enjoyed the action and the love connection between the two main characters. I would definitely recommend this book to any paranormal lover. This book can be read as a stand alone, but why would you when the other books in the series are fantastic as well?

Devil's Backbone (Wild Beasts Series Book 5)Devil’s Backbone
By: T. Birmingham
My Rating: 5 of 5 stars

Devil’s Backbone (Wild Beasts #5) by T. Birmingham was a dark fantasy shifter read, that had me hooked from start to finish.

My first read by this author and for this series, I was hooked right from that chilling prolog. As the story moved forward I was drawn in deep by this authors steady writing and the stories darker tones. Though the pace isn’t fast, the writing pulls you in, and the intensities are spread out enough where you’re never bored and the bubbling romance keeps the reader engaged and hooked.

I have to say, this book is at the top of my, best reads so far this year, list. It has everything that I love about reading and about shifter romances. The MC’s aren’t your typical cookie cutter characters. They felt real, relatable, and the brokenness just adds to their realistic persona. Outside the the near perfect MC’s, the plot is building, multi layered and complex. It sets you up to something epic, and man it’s worth everything. I need to check out the other books in this series, because though this reads as a standalone, there are things that happen in the last books, that are referenced, and I need to read those scenes!

Overall this book is a must read, and I can’t stress enough how utterly outstanding this read is. This book gets my ultra stamp of approval and my golden recommendation.

Happy Reading

Ok so I’ll start this with how much I love this author and this series, but this one in some ways is not my favorite so far…I’m not sure what it was, I can’t put my finger on why it felt different but I wasn’t as hooked on this one as I have been the others. Now in saying that, I loved Loved Loved the characters in this book. Tess had been through H*** in her life and watching her come through that because of the love of a good man who also had his own demons to fight was awesome.

I loved Todd, and he made me smile often, and I loved that the ongoing story still continues and can not wait for more of what is happening, the twists and turns are always placed perfectly and I love that all my favorite characters from earlier books are still mentioned and always there.

Can not wait to see how this author takes this story next and I’ll be the first in line to read more.

Devil's Backbone (Wild Beasts Series Book 5)Devil’s Backbone by T. Birmingham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Devil’s Backbone is the fifth book in the Wild Beasts series by T. Birmingham. This story can be a stand alone story but it is recommended that you read the other books in order. This will give you more insight to the characters and give meaning to what is going on in this particular story. Devil’s Backbone is a paranormal fantasy romance with some mystery mixed into the fold. Tess and Ben are the main characters who are fated mates. Tess has been having some weird scents around here. It is as if she is smelling body parts that is showing up out of nowhere. In the meantime Ben is coming around as well. Ben needs to get Tess to look at him in a different way and not as a bad guy. Another thing about T. Birmingham I love is the way she lays roots that intervenes with the characters which makes me feel closer to Jess and Ben. Will Jess and Ben figure everything out or will it push them apart? Only the book will tell you. .

Devil’s Backbone (Wild Beasts Series Book 5)
By T. Birmingham

Devil’s Backbone is the fifth book in the Wild Beasts series by T. Birmingham. Ok so far this has been an awesome series, but on saying that I don’t think this book is as good as what the others have been. Probably needed a little more interaction with the characters of the book. However, I did like the main characters in this book. So, this book centres around Ben and Tess.
Ben:
Is the strong one that sees it as his thing to keep everyone together. But what is going on that he now starts to feel rather unsettled? There are missing people and their cases are popping up constantly.
Tess:
Has been hiding from other people for as long as she can remember, these people were meant to be the ones that loved her. So, because of the life she has led she turns to books for comfort.
As with the other books in this series there is a lot action, but like I mentioned before with more interaction between the characters, I feel the storyline would have been better. However, you would be crazy if you miss this series.

Devil's Backbone (Wild Beasts Series Book 5)Devil’s Backbone by T. Birmingham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Devil’s Backbone is the fifth book in T. Birmingham’s Wild Beast series that is filled with action, danger, mystery, suspense, magic … everything that one superb paranormal romance needs to have! I know that some say that you could read each book as a standalone but I have read them in the order and as you meet the leads of different books again in the other ones, there is a lot of backstory and information that is in each of the books (not repeating) then it is in your own best interest to be familiar with them to fully enjoy the series!
Devil’s Backbone is the story of Tess Thompson, our shut down kind and caring Tess who also has a unique genetic traits, and Benjamin Oliver, our ultimate protector! Like all the other books, Devil’s Backbone is so multi-layered and intricate so you better really pay attention as the story is intense and the writer goes straight to the point! I was rooting for Tess and Ben from the first moment and I was wishing for a happy ending but nothing comes easy so be prepared for one heck of a ride! I am really happy that there will be more stories in this mindbending series!

Devil's Backbone (Wild Beasts Series Book 5)Devil’s Backbone by T. Birmingham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Devil’s Backbone is the fifth book in the Wild Beasts Series by T. Birmingham. It is a fantastic paranormal romance with lots of action, danger, drama, emotion, mystery, suspense, shifters, Gods, magic, second chances, and self-discovery. As I have said before through this superb series, I love the way Ms. Birmingham builds the tension and adds a mysteriousness, and suspense to her books. And as I have come to expect from her, she had me on the edge of my seat, anxiously reading to discover where the story would lead.
This book could be read as a standalone, but I don’t recommend it. If you haven’t read the other books, I strongly suggest that you do- because there’s so much back story, character introductions, and other relevant information contained in those books- and having all that information on board will greatly enhance your overall reading experience of not only this book, but the series as a whole.
As with the other books in this series, this has a complex, multi-layered storyline- which Ms. Birmingham has masterfully woven into a quite an engrossing read.
This story focuses on Tess Thompson and Benjamin Oliver- although characters we’ve met in previous book/s also make appearances. I really enjoyed following along on their ‘adventure’- finding out all about them, and what got them to this point. I really felt for Tess and what she’d been through. All that pain and suffering at the hands of the people who were meant to love and protect her. But even after everything she’d been through, and taking her unique genetic traits into account, she didn’t like to see people suffer, and was still kind and caring. But, she’d kind of shut down, wasn’t ‘really’ living- just making the motions really- never revealing her true self, or letting others get too ‘close’. She had a few friends- James (The Lodge leader), Devon (her former student), Annie (an Other), and Ben (a previous resident and trainer at The Lodge)- but even with them she never gave herself completely. This story allows us to see her struggles, what she had endured, and the self-realization and discovery she goes through. She’s a really special character, and was really easy to get emotionally invested in. Add Ben to the mix and I was hooked. I was rooting for them the whole way through. And that ending! I hope that was setting us up for the next book!!
The world-building, legend, and lore was incredibly well done, superbly developed- and entirely believable. The characters are extremely interesting, endearing, and fully developed. There were a lot of emotional factors to this story- moments of extreme heartbreak, as well as other moments that were truly heartfelt, tender, and touching.
My favourite of the series so far. I can’t wait for “Devil May Care” (Book #6).

Thank you, Ms. Birmingham!

Devil's Backbone (Wild Beasts Series Book 5)Devil’s Backbone by T. Birmingham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Devil’s Backbone was a good 4 star read and book 5 in the Wild Beasts series.

This is Tess and Ben’s story. I was pulled in right from the beginning.
Tess’s childhood wasn’t great, her parents experimented on her quite often. When she finally got away she lived with her pet lizard staying away from others as much as she could. When she makes a discovery, it’s something than sends her spiraling into fear.

Ben is a protector and has been sent to investigate the murders and missing persons cases. Tess ends up helping Ben and they start to grow closer. Can they discover who the killer is? Can they find a HEA with each other?

There are some very interesting secondary characters that added a great element to the story. I really liked Ben and Tess, they were good for each other. We get some hot and steamy and edge of your seat moments, action and so much more. If you’re looking for a great paranormal series to read this is the one for you. 1-click and get started today.

Devil's Backbone (Wild Beasts Series Book 5)Devil’s Backbone by T. Birmingham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“It is when you stepped outside that safe world you’d created, into other’s perspectives, that the world became askew…”

The fifth book in the series, this paranormal fantasy can be read as a stand-alone. It is one of the shorter books in the series and gets right to the point.

It’s a complex tale and I think all of the main points of the story are explained in a quick and detailed manner so there is very little confusion as to who is who and what role they play. There are a few times that I found myself wondering if something came from one of the previous stories (which I’ve read).

The author’s writing is very descriptive and I am always able to play the movie in my head as I read along. There is a lot of symbolism in this story that at times I found reassuring and other times frightening. No matter my underlying feelings, overall there was always pleasure at what I was reading.

The way this book is formatted with sections and chapter headings was as intriguing as the story. The metaphors made what was about to happen an interesting twist to the read.

I’ve really enjoyed reading this entire series and based on the epilogue, the enjoyment is going to continue.

Devil’s Backbone by T. Birmingham a four-star read that is the better devil you know. This is the fifth novel in the Wild Beasts series, they can be read as stand-alone, but I have to be honest and admit that I have read them in order. This was a great paranormal fantasy romance and has all the bones for being a great, but it just lacked a little something. Tess as a character was well done, she made you care about her and feel her emotions but some of the others just felt a little lacking. But I would recommend this as there is a great story to be read.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Devil’s Backbone by T. Birmingham is the fifth book in the Wild Beasts series. This can be read as a standalone and enjoyed. This book has paranormal, action, and suspense. Tess has been scarred and is especially frightened when she comes across the remains of someone she believes she recognizes. She prefers to keep to herself and away from drama. Ben has been sent back to the last place he would consider home. There is a missing person and more for him to figure out.
This is an interesting read. Much occurs in the minds of the characters. This is an interesting way of getting to know the characters. It gives a private insight into them and adds to the story. I enjoyed and was rooting for Tess and Ben. I am now curious about the rest of the series and will be catching more of those books in the future.

I give Devil’s Backbone (Wild Beasts Series Book 5) by T. Birmingham, 4 stars.
*This review may contain spoilers from previous books in series.*

Tess had an absolutely horrible start to her life. Luckily, was able to escape all that. But she has been hiding ever since. Life is better for her this way. She has her books and her friends. That is all she needs. But they don’t really know the real her. She shows them what she wants them to see. Except for Ben. Her best friend, she feels for him like no other. But she can’t let herself feel more.

Ben feels lost. He has always been a protector. With his sister gone, he feels like he failed. Sure, he. Cares about Tess, but the quiet, shy girl doesn’t seem to feel the same. Should he go ahead and tell her once and for all how he really feels? When body parts are found in the around where Tess lives, Ben is sent to help and protect. This gives him new purpose. Can help find out who is behind this? Does he get a chance with Tess?

This is a good paranormal romance with plenty of action. It takes two people who each have their issues, and gives them a chance to become something greater. This is a great formula for an interesting read. But the story doesn’t stop there. There are horrible things happening all around and the culprit may be closer to home than anyone thinks. This part really makes this book so much better. The characters are great — Tess just may be my favorite so far. Plus it shows that they can grow from what they once thought of themselves.

This is a great story and I highly recommend this book and series to those who like creatures, romance, and action all in one book.

Another amazing read from this fantastically talented author!! I am so glad that I found this author when I did because I have absolutely loved all of the books that I have read by her. I am always captivated from the beginning until the end.
Devil’s Backbone is the fifth book in the Wild Beasts series but can be read as a standalone. I have to say I’m pretty certain this is my favourite one out of the series! I really enjoy mythology and I have really come to love the twist this author has put on that – she has created real original stories. Tess and Ben’s story was pretty intense and full of action. I really felt for Tess actually and everything that she had been through, I thought that she was a really relatable character. I will be honest I was rooting for Tess and Ben!!
I absolutely recommend this book and the others in the series also! I know that I will be very much looking forward to reading more from this wonderful author again in the future!

I have mixed emotions about this story. I felt that the story lacked conversations between the characters. There was too much dialogue coming from the characters thoughts. I’m not sure how we got to certain points and situations when no one talked. Well they didn’t talk a lot. With that being said I didn’t find fault in the message the author put in this story. How Annie, Tess and even Ben had to find themselves and learn to love it. How they had to step out of their comfort zones and try new things allow themselves to feel. You do learn a lot about the characters from reading their thoughts. I would’ve like to see more talking to each other so that I could understand the bonds more. It was hard to just go by the emotions that they felt in each others presence.

The Devil’s Backbone is just one of those books that you can’t stop reading. This is the fifth book in the Wild Beast series and I think it’s the best one so far. I really liked these characters. I found that I could sympathize with and understand Tess, and that helped me to fall into this book with reckless abandon. As with the previous books we see the world just a little bit differently because of these characters and I walked away from this book with a different perspective of the classic mythology that I love so much. Whether you root for the good guys or the bad (I’m still trying to figure out which is which) you will at the very least be entertained. My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Devil’s Backbone is the most recent installment in T. Birmingham’s hot new paranormal romance series, the Wild Beasts series. Devil’s Backbone is the fifth book in the series, and the by far the best one, in my opinion. I absolutely adored this book and how each one just keeps getting better than the one before it. With higher stakes, bigger plots, more supernatural creatures than you can poke a stick at, and Benjamin Oliver to drool over. I really loved this wild ride of story and could really relate to Tess’s character and her super cool pet lizard, Todd. I really loved her journey and growth throughout the book, as well as Ben’s. Their characters are very well written and were a delight to read about. I highly recommend this fantastical series by T. Birmingham, each book can be read as a standalone, as each follows a different set of characters, but it’s better if you start at the beginning.
Overall I gave this book 4/5 stars.

The story Devil’s Backbone (Wild Beasts Series Book 5) by T. Birmingham is a book that I loved reading. It has mystery, suspense, the paranormal, and romance. It draws you in from the very beginning and I found myself not able to put it down until I had finished the last page. The story had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. I loved reading about the characters of Benjamin Oliver and Tess Thompson. Tess is a woman haunted by the past. She is someone who would rather read a book than be in a room full of people. Those she calls friends are few. She finds that something feels familiar when body parts start appearing, Ben is a protector. He has helped others for so long and had to be the strong one it is a role that he fits into. He finds himself wanting to protect Tess and keep her safe. Who is leaving the body parts that are showing up? Will they be caught? Benjamin and Tess feel a strong attraction to each other. Their emotions for each other are strong. Will they take a chance and act on their feelings? What does the future hold for them? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had my emotions going up and down with the characters. As I read more about Benjamin and Tess, I grew to care about them and wanted them to find happiness. This is a book that does a wonderful job of building a world that includes paranormal creatures and the supernatural. The story is written in such a way that I felt I was right there with the characters. I highly recommend reading it.

Benjamin Oliver is unsettled. Something he’s never been. He’s had to keep other’s lives together for so long, be the strong one, the protector. With his sister in the wind and missing person cases leaving a trail from Montville all the way north to his old stomping grounds, Ben is sent back to Dunham. Back to one of the few places he’s ever called home.

Tess Thompson has spent her life in hiding. She prefers books, knowledge, and her pet lizard to real people. Her only friends are The Lodge’s leader, James, and the damaged Other, Annie whose revolving door of boyfriends and the drama that ensues are as much chaos as Tess can handle.

When Tess stumbles upon human body parts in the woods, she isn’t shocked. This type of scene isn’t unusual in the Clans. But what is strange is, she thinks she knows that foot…and that thumb…and possibly that hand as well. At least, it smells like she does.

Missing people. Body parts. And Shifters. Oh, my! Ben and Tess have quite the yellow brick road to travel if they’re going to solve the mystery…but maybe along the path they’re treading, they’ll find each other as well.
