Ember's Secret (Solstice Quartet #1)Ember’s Secret by Catherine Peace
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was so surprised by this book! When I first started reading it I forgot that it was about shifters. I haven’t read many “shifter” books outside of the normal werewolves and such, so I LOVED seeing some other animals being brought into the genera. Ember has a big secret and with the Solstice coming up quickly she’s not sure if she can keep that secret much longer. She want to see more people in her café and in turn be reunited with her two sisters. Her café only sees people that are passing through and she hasn’t turned a good profit in years. Cooking for people she never sees twice is lonely and not at all what she wants out of her café. Food brings people together. She wants more out of her life and she wants more for her café. But can she risk it? Austin is the host of a popular Food TV show Back Road Eats. He’s tired of the same old easy dependable American grilling and BBQ. And being on the road more and more is wearing him out. A chef tv host who’s burnt out on food! While on the way to one last round of shows before heading home his RV breaks down in the middle of no where Wyoming. Dreading the extended stay while him and his camera and editing crew wait for a part for the RV, they learn of a Maori restaurant and his interest is piqued! Sick of BBQ, burgers, and all the normal Back Road Eats he’s been eating for the past few years he is ready to try something new. Once he meets Ember and tries her food he can’t leave without getting her to do his show! He can’t believe the flavors that she brings out in all her dishes. Everything he tries, he loves! But she’s terrified and family comes first. Her father forbids anything to do with the show and he is all she has left. Family first. Can Austin get Ember to do the show? Does Ember bring her whole world down around her and put what little family she has left in danger? Will she get them killed? Will she ever get her café full of people who fall in love with her food? It’s clear that Austin loves more than just her food too! What will come of that?! Dealing with his own father drama he doesn’t want to push to hard. Does he push her away? Or will they over come fears and trials and come together? You have to read to find out!!! You won’t be disappointed!!

Ember’s Secret (Solstice Quartet #1) by Catherine Peace

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Ember’s Secret is a great read and an easy one at that. The next book is something I’m looking forward to.

Ember has always had a dream, but doesn’t think she can make it happen. When she meets Austin it’s close to Solstice. With his help will she be able to make her dream come true? The quote I chose for Ember is: “These dishes turned into a blend of traditional and … something. I wouldn’t call it fusion, but it’s different. Maybe more Americanized than I’d like. I tried a new appetizer and new entree. Wanted to get your opinion.”

Austin is a foodie by heart and wants to own his own restaurant. Breaking down in the middle of nowhere may be a blessing in disguise. Can he make his dream of settling down and being a chef come true? The quote I chose for Austin is: “Getting down those ideas you mentioned last night and implementing them as soon as possible.”

Highly recommended for Paranormal Fantasy lovers.

Ember's Secret (Solstice Quartet #1)Ember’s Secret by Catherine Peace
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is the first book of the Solstice Quartet series and it is a great introduction to the world.

Ember lost everything years ago when hunters showed up at their tribe and slaughtered and kidnapped all of their people including her own mother. They come from a tribe of swan shifters. Her sister Dia led the hunters away from Ember, their father and their other sister Amy so they could get away. Years later and they still have no idea what happened to Dia which makes them feel the need to hide.

Ember is a chef and owner of a small cafe. She loves to cook. Unfortunately living in a small town not used to ethnic food made her cafe empty most of the time. Due to her father’s paranoia, Ember hasn’t done much to change this until she meets Austin.

Austin is a host of a show that goes to different restaurants and reviews them. After entering Ember’s cafe he is smitten instantly. With her, with her food, her passion and her energy and knows that she deserves more customers in her place of work.

Austin tries to convince her to take part in an episode that will most likely bring clientele in. With her past, she is unsure where to go from here.

There was chemistry between these two from the very beginning. They seemed like soul mates. Instantly they got along and spoke like they’ve known each other for years. There was a strong will they/won’t they between the two while they tried to fight their feelings and dark past. There wasn’t much action but like i said it was a very good introduction to the world as you get to read flashbacks and memories. The world in of itself is unique. It talks of Maori traditions. It was very interesting to read.

Ember's Secret (Solstice Quartet #1)Ember’s Secret by Catherine Peace
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So let me just start off by saying, I went into reading this book after reading the 3rd book of the series and was not disappointed at all! Catherine Peace definitely writes in a genre of her own, and it is different, but it is a great different though! I can honestly say that this is the second book that I have read that Catherine Peace has written, and I have not been disappointed either time, I really enjoyed reading Ember’s Secret!
The storyline revolves around two lonely souls that are drawn to one another.
Austin, considered a failure in his father’s eyes, has a great love and a passion for food. He seems to have darkness looming over him but he’s just the light this story needed. His character development throughout the story was beautifully described. After learning about Austin, we are then introduced to
Ember, who has been living in fear, after her mother was killed when she was a child. And her life of fear hasn’t been easy, because of her shape shifting secret she holds dear. Ember’s character really develops throughout the novel.
Austin happens to stumble across Ember’s empty restaurant with phenomenal food because his car troubles landed him there. He sees something within Ember and wants to give her everything! Ember is hesitant as first, but it doesn’t take long for her to jump on board and let’s Austin and his team lead the way. As Austin and Ember grow closer, they have multiple obstacles that keep getting in their way!

Ember and Austin are great characters, I’m excited for book two!

A wonderful well written fantasy romance that has beautiful imagery. A unique mix of mythology, paranormal and culture, held my interest til the end. The characterisation was interesting as I felt more connected with Ember as the story progressed. With such a strong first book in the series I am curious as to where the story will go.

This is such a beautiful paranormal romance. Ember is such a beautiful swan shifter that shares the same love of food that Austin does. Fate brings them together when his RV breaks down on his way through and he and his crew stop at her restaurant for a bite to eat. The connection between Ember and Austin is immediate. It isn’t only their mutual love of creating amazing food that draws them together. They both have wounded souls that call out to each other no matter how hard they try to resist the pull. Each is dealing with a controlling father and trying to forge their own path in life. Ember has been taught not to trust anyone from the time she was a small girl and she has to learn to push past those deeply ingrained fears and listen to her heart. This is a beautiful heartwarming story of romance and hope that will leave you with a smile on your face. I’m really looking forward to reading the next books in this series.

It’s different! A great different though! I thoroughly enjoyed reading Ember’s Secret.
Our story revolves around two lonely souls that are drawn to one another.
Austin, a failure in his father’s eyes, has a love and a passion for food. He might have darkness looming over him but he’s just the light this story needed. His character development and growth is wonderfully needed throughout the story.
Then there’s Ember living in fear, after her mother was killed when she was a child. Then again that’s because of her shape shifting secret she holds dear. She grows up tremendously throughout.
Austin stumbles across her empty restaurant with phenomenal food because his car troubles landed him there. He sees a kindred flame within Ember and wants to give her everything nobody gave him to succeed. Though hesitant at first Ember jumps on board and let’s Austin and his team lead the way. As they grow closer they have my obstacles that erupt in their way.
It’s a sweet supernatural romance that I encourage any and all to give a chance. The author did a wonderful job and I look forward to reading our books in the future.

This book was fantastic! The complexity of the characters was fabulous and the relationships between them were so realistic. All the food as well sounded amazing and I really wished I could taste it! The conflicts in each of their lives were so relatable and I definitely felt for Austin in his worry for his mom while his father was so sick. But Ember’s struggle with the trauma of her past makes me sad, although I truly adore her way of connecting to and keeping her past alive through using what she learned from her mom about cooking to keep her restaurant alive.

Ember loves her café and wants to see her sisters again. She has a lot of responsibility as the last of her kind though, so you never know what’s ahead of you. Austin is a celeb food taster who travels around. He’s getting bored with the ones he’s trying now till he hears about a certain café. From then, mystery and more blooms. It’s a great start to the series and can’t wait to read what’s next.

Honestly, I looked at this book a few times before I decided to commit. It is right up my alley, what with the main character being far from normal, though the synopsis certainly didn’t do it justice. This author weaves a story full of colourful notes, flavors, personalities, life goals and dreams.

Austin and Ember are two halves made whole from the moment they laid eyes on each other. It’s a tale as old as time, the zing that made the air sizzle. I loved the way the reader feels so connected to Ember, anticipating thoughts and hardships, and rooting for her along the way. Austin has this winning personality and just wants to help, and won’t take no for an answer. Truly, I loved the way their story blooms, and the way Austin, Ray, and Joel are there, becoming more like her family, every step of the way! I felt like I was in Kai watching this story unfold, and I cannot wait to continue on this beautiful adventure with the next installment. Read it, you won’t be disappointed!

Family secrets, traditions and duty clash with the “regular world” when Austin a TV personality meets Ember a small town girl (so she seems) with a talent for cooking but no one to appreciate it.

Ember however is so much more than she seems….and Austin… somehow can feel this

there is so much angst in Embers story trying to decide what’s best for her and her family and her secrets… not only that you think you know her secrets but oh boy SUPRISE! THERE’S MORE

This was a wonderful Paranormal Romance and well built I look forward to the next one!

Ember's Secret (Solstice Quartet #1)Ember’s Secret by Catherine Peace
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ember Ngata is a young female shifter from New Zealand of Maori descent, she is in fact the direct descendent from their god Tane, an individual who was part god and part bird and Ember is also part bird, a Whakamanu, one of the only remnants of her tribe who were decimated and have been in Wyoming, hiding ever since. Embers passion is food, it connects her to things she has lost and so she has the dream of making the restaurant she owns and works in a success, but the more people who pass through and never return, the more lonely she feels, especially since her sisters had to leave, she misses them and just wants them home again.

Austin Garten is a television celebrity, he is best known and currently working as the host on the TV show Back Road Eats and has been travelling in an old RV with the rest of his crew sampling the cuisine of the US. However, there is only so much barbecue, pizza and pasta that he can take and he has become slowly more and more bored by the cuisine of Breadbasket America, so when their RV breaks down in Wyoming, they have to take an enforced break and it couldn’t be more welcome.

When Austin receives a recommendation for a Maori restaurant in the area called Kai, he is more then ready for a change of pace and so the crew go there the next day to see what this new kind of cuisine has to offer, however, when he encounters the hostess, he finds more than he bargained for. As soon as Ember sees some new faces who are not her regular clientele, she is happy and when she finds someone attractive as well as someone who enjoys his food, Ember finds a new sense of happiness, albeit tempered by worry and fear at the same time.

As the days pass and Ember and Austin spend more time together, the heat between them increases, but as the Maori New Year and the Solstice approaches, Ember struggles to hide her true nature from Austin, but what would happen if she finally let someone in on her secret, would it end in acceptance or disaster? This is a story of choices and consequences, risk and reward, as well as a sprinkling of magic where nothing is certain and is going all in a risk worth taking?

Ember's Secret (Solstice Quartet #1)Ember’s Secret by Catherine Peace
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book in the Solstice Quartet series and it was a great read. I loved the way the author builds the story and the characters themselves. The characters are what makes the story really come alive for me. It was a really nice surprise that it was a romance story but full of twists and turns so you never know what’s going to happen. It was refreshing to read a romance story which leaves you guessing the outcome. I also love the connections the author makes between the myths that surround the Whakamanu tribe.

Austin works on TV. His job  is travel the world looking for amazing places to eat. And it’s a twist of fate that he ends up broken down in Wyoming. While he is stranded there he trys a restaurant town which is owned by Ember. Surprised by how amazing the food is and intrigued by the owner Austin wants to make a show including her restaurant. However Ember isn’t so keen.

You see Ember has secrets. Secrets that need to stay hidden and could cause danger to herself and her family if they were to come to light.

As much as Ember wants to make her restaurant popular she also doesn’t want to risk harming the people she cares about.
As things start to grow between Ember and Austin, he knows she has secrets but will he stay if he finds out what they are or will it be enough to break the budding romance apart?
I can’t wait to see how the story and their relationship will develop.

This is a great paranormal romance by an author who was completely new to me. I don’t read a lot of paranormal romance but when I do I always enjoy it, so I really need to add more of it to my reading list. Judging by how much I enjoyed this book, I’d definitely read more of this author’s work.
Ember Ngata is a fantastic character that I loved reading about. She just wants her restaurant to do well and to have hr family back together. Just one thing – she has a rather huge secret. She experiences so much angst in this book. Should she do what’s right for her restaurant or should she worry more about the safety of her family? This is a decision that isn’t made any easier by the presence of Austin Garten, host of a food TV show who wants to promote her restaurant as her cooking is out of this world.
I loved the dynamic between Austin and Ember, how they worked so well together and the growing attraction between them that Ember tried so hard to fight as there is no way she could risk Austin finding out her secret.
I really enjoyed reading this book and would definitely recommend it to others.

Kapow! I fell in love with this book. You are reading along with the story of Ember and Austin. Boy falls in love and the story develops. You are thinking you know Ember’s secret but BAM, mic drop. Plot twist!!! Ember has a bigger secret. This has just moved up the list of my favorite book of the year. I will be looking forward to book 2 in the series because I have to know what happens next in the search for the sisters. Back to Austin and Ember. Descriptions of Ember are absolutely gorgeous and unique. You have to read the book to find out what I’m talking about. The author has such a beautiful way of writing it. Austin and Ember are both coming from childhoods of heartbreak. Can they get past this to make it work? They can but they are going to need to do some work to get through it. There is some steam scattered throughout. I do love some spice with my romance. It fits perfect in here. The characters are totally relatable. The struggles are real. This is truly a wonderful book. I will be eagerly awaiting more from this author and from the series. Get out there and grab this book. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

A fabulous four-star read. This was my first read by this author, but I hope its not the last, as there were some real great storylines in this story, it needed a little more putting together for me, but honestly, I was excited by what I was reading. The descriptions were so detailed that you cold see what was being described in your mind, especially the food. But food isn’t the only shining light in this story, I am excited to hear more from the author as this shows great promise, with some extra putting together it could easily have been five-stars.

Ember’s Secrets is the first book in the Solstice Quartet Series . This is a Paranormal/Fantasy/ Shifter story that once you start reading you won’t want to put it down until you’ve finished. This is a fairly new author to me and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what other books she has. Her style of writing and attention to detail is honestly not what I expected but it far better. I loved the characters. This is a story about Ember ,she wants two things in life to be reunited with her sisters and to see people return to her café. She’s also one of the last Whakamanu a descendant of Maori bird-god tane and holds the secrets of the tribe. Austin is the host of the a popular show called Back Road Eats but he needs more than the boring safe foods his network wants him to do. What will happen when his RV breaks down and he comes across Kai a Maori style restaurant? These two have great chemistry but will he still accept her after he learns about her secret? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author .

Ember’s Secret is the first book in the Solstice Quartet by Catherine Peace. This is a very original fantasy story with paranormal elements, shifters, magic, family, food, secrets, danger, superb world building, and interesting quirky characters. This wonderful story is woven with, and around, Maori myths and legends.
The fact that the story incorporates Maori myths, culture, and cooking really made this story stand out from the crowd and gave it an extra element of interest. I had not read any of the authors work before, so I really didn’t know what to expect- but I love a good fantasy and this one promised to be a little different, what I discovered has certainly piqued my interest and I am really looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Happy reading!

Thank you, Catherine Peace!
