Tails Always Wins (Chasing Tails Book 1) by C.A. King – Review by Erin Wolf

Tails Always WinsTails Always Wins by C.A. King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Tails Always Wins (Chasing Tails Book 1) by C.A. King, 5 stars.

After a horrible childhood, Tails has dedicated her life for the cause of shifter freedom. In a world on hate, most humans look at shifters as nothing more than animals. All she wants is equality. Her boss tasks her with bringing a wolf shifter named Brodie to help their cause. Brodie has always lived under the radar, never bringing attention to what he really is. All that changes in a heartbeat. With nothing left but to go along with Tails, he has no idea if he can really trust her or the one she works for. But things may not be what they seem. Will they learn the truth? What can they do about it?

This is a great beginning to a series. The characters are great. They live in a very unjust society and all they want is to be free and happy. They story itself is quite interesting. I can’t say I have read anything quite like it before. It is full of action too. I could not put the book down until I was finished. I hope to see much more of this series in the future.

If you like paranormal reads, this book is for you.

Time Tourist Outfitters, Ltd by Christy Nicholas – Review by Erin Wolf

Time Tourist Outfitters, Ltd.Time Tourist Outfitters, Ltd. by Christy Nicholas

I give Time Tourist Outfitters, Ltd. by Christy Nicholas, 5 stars. Wilda is a retired First Nations Temporal Agent. She used to do a lot of Travelling, but now she is content with her little flat, her cat, and her shop. She is too old for the adventure anymore. All that changes when a very ill Traveller collapses on her doorstep; she is forced back into doing what she hasn’t done in ages. With her assistant, she must go back in time to figure out what is causing this strange disease. Will they be able to find it? If they do, will it be too late?

Wow. I have read other books by this author, but this was something completely different. Wilda is a great character, she is sarcastic, speaks her mind, is addicted to coffee, but smart enough to get her and her assistant out of some tough spots. The secondary characters are great too and if we are lucky enough for this to become a series, I hope to see more of them. The story itself is fantastic. You can tell the author did plenty of research to make the eras and time periods as realistic as possible. At the same time, she keeps it interesting so even if you are not big on the specifics of the time, you will still enjoy it. Plus there is the mystery element of who or what is causing this disease.

I could not put this book down once I started. If you are a fan of strong female main characters, time traveling, and adventure, this book is for you.

Sugar & Spice (Spicetopia #1) by Phoebe Alexander Featured in the Sweetest Obsessions Boxed Set Collection – Review by Erin Wolf

Sweetest Obsessions: A Contemporary Romance Boxed Set CollectionSweetest Obsessions: A Contemporary Romance Boxed Set Collection by Jane Anthony
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Sweetest Obsessions: A Contemporary Romance Boxed Set Collection, 5 stars.

This was a great collection, but the story I am going to focus on is Sugar and Spice by Phoebe Alexander. Cy is the youngest son of the Sweetopia amusement park empire. Never one to settle down or commit, his family chooses him to go undercover to ferret out who is causing unrest among the employees. He does is begrudgingly, until he meets the new Red Velvet Queen. He cannot get her out of his mind and finds himself wanting more. But will she still want him when she realizes who he really is?

Jolie works at Sweetopia as the Red Velvet Queen. The benefits and pay are not great, but she needs the money. In fact, the whole Sweet family is horrible. The only joy she gets is from the new guy in the bakery. She makes him feel things she swore off long ago. But when he finds out the real her, he will bolt — won’t he?

I absolutely loved this story. It’s like nothing I have ever read before. I would have never thought about a romance book revolving around an amusement park with two of the employees. The main characters feel so real and believable. The secondary characters too felt like people I know. Then there’s the story! The author weaves an incredible tale not only of romance but drama too. It’s not only sunshine and roses either, there are tough decisions they have to make — just like real life.

If you like incredibly written romance that is not only hot and heavy, but has so much more, this book and collection are for you.

Sanctuary (Captivity Series Book 2) by Sarah Biglow & Molly Zenk – Review by Erin Wolf

Sanctuary (Captivity Book 2)Sanctuary by Sarah Biglow
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Sanctuary: A Paranormal Romance Novella (Captivity Book 2) by Sarah Biglow & Molly Zenk, 4 stars.
**This review contains spoilers from book 1.**

Aiden has been accepted into their new group, while Lorlelie has been mostly accepted. But Aiden is dying. The only hope they have is to find a place called Sanctuary. It is best for them to head out on foot, so they start out on their long journey. But the journey is not the only peril. Both Aiden and Lorelie have a price on their heads and are being hunted. Meanwhile Aiden is slowly dying and Lorelie is pregnant with a rare hybrid baby. Will they make it, or will there be more tragedy in this ragtag family?

I enjoyed book one in this series and this second book picked up right where it left off and pulled you right back in. There is action almost from the beginning, along with the characters finding their place in this group and figuring out their love lifes. The group is fun and interesting too. You learn more about the secondary characters and meet a few new ones along the way. Both Lorlelie and Aiden have to grow and adapt to their new lives and it isn’t easy.

If you are a fan of supernatural adventure/romance, this book and series is for you.

Liz Addison is a tv reporter who is on another hot lead. She has been told Catherine is much more important to the supernatural world than anyone suspects. Liz now needs to find out why. But she has been threatened with death if she continues. The reporter in her cannot stop until she has the answers. But when those she cares about are in danger, she is not sure what to do. Can she get to the bottom of this? At what cost?

I thoroughly enjoyed this series and looked forward to this book. I was not disappointed at all. Liz is the main character in this book, but we see much of the other characters from this series too. This is a supernatural cozy mystery type book with romance thrown in for good measure. The suspense really gets you hooked and I could not put it down until I was finished. It is a fun romp through Vegas where danger lurks at every corner. It can be read as a standalone, but you get so much more out of it if you really the previous books first. I highly recommend this book and series.

Legacy of Luck (The Druid’s Brooch Series Book 3) by Christy Nicholas – Review by Erin Wolf

Legacy of Luck (Druid's Brooch #3)Legacy of Luck by Christy Nicholas

I give Legacy of Luck: Druid’s Brooch Series: #3 by Christy Nicholas, 5 stars.

This is the story of Éamonn, an Irish Traveler who enjoy gambling and women. He doesn’t have a place to call home, but he doesn’t need it. Then he meets Katie. He is ready to give everything up for her. Then he finds out she is to be married off to another. He cannot stop the wedding, but he promised her he would protect her and he aims to keep that promise. So he goes with his cousin and Katie’s sister on a journey to catch up to Katie. But this is not as easy as it seems. They are always a few steps behind. Along the way, they run into adventures, both good and bad. Katie’s journey is also a hard one. She did not want to be married to this man, and she quickly learns that her new brother in law is one not to be trifled with. She prays Éamonn will find her. But the farther they go, the less hope she has. Will he reach her? If so, what then?

I have absolutely loved this series and this book exceeds my expectations. The characters so real, you love some and loathe others. Katie is my favorite. She is a spitfire Irish redhead who isn’t afraid to show her temper. The story itself is wonderful. There are good things and bad things along this journey, just like life. Katie learns and deals with a lot along the way. Others also deal with grief throughout the book. The author has weaved a magical story set in a place steeped in the ways of the old magics and gods. I could not put the book down and you will also be drawn in as soon as you start reading.

OF WAR AND TATERS by Ashley Chappell – Review by Erin Wolf

Of War and TatersOf War and Taters by Ashley Chappell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Of War and Taters by Ashley Chappell, 5 stars.

The sleepy little town of Merit is quiet no more. A bunch of reporters have flocked there once they heard about the rival gangs this town has. Little did they know they “gangs” were just a bunch of ten-year-olds. Plus the travelling circus decided to get some of this attention and stopped over there. Oh and don’t forget the ghost actor. Sheriff Stanley, used to nothing happening in his town, doesn’t know how to stop this sudden chaos and bad rumors. Then he finds a grisly discovery that hints at worse things going on. Will he be able to step up and take charge or is his little town doomed?

If you do not appreciate humor and satire, this book may not be for you. However, if you do, this book is right up your alley. Something completely different from what I’ve read of this author before, she does a brilliant job of putting just the right amount of humor and sarcasm into this story while still keeping it a mystery book too. Is most of what happens completely outlandish? Yes, but that is what makes it so great! At the same time, there is a touch of heart in here too. The kids great and the poor sheriff puts up with so much. The people could easily be your eccentric neighbors who live down the road. The story itself has so much going on in so many directions, but it all ties together wonderfully. I could not put this down until I reached the end. I would love to see more of this town in the future.

If you enjoy a humorous whodunit the likes of which you have never read before, this book is for you.

Siren’s Call: Cursed Seas by Amy McKinley – Review by Erin Wolf

Siren's Call: Cursed SeasSiren’s Call: Cursed Seas by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Siren’s Call: Cursed Seas by Amy McKinley 5 stars.

This book was phenomenal! The story itself is so complex and woven into a delicate pattern of one girl’s life and what she must endure. This book starts out as a girl living in a fishing village. She lives alone with her father and must be married off soon. Instead of letting her father have the complete choice, she decides to take matters into her own hands and find someone herself to coax into a good marriage. When a stranger comes along, she is swept off her feet. But he never mentions marriage.

This would be the end of some books, but there was so, so much more to go. I had no idea where this adventure would take me next. Turns out, I was on a train ride with so many twists and turns. There is an incredible amount of story that happens after this. I do not want to give any more away, but Nerissa learns just what she really is and the truth about those she loves. It seems everyone has lied to her. And you won’t believe just how she handles this!

Besides the story itself, the characters are believable and interesting. I really liked Nerissa’s friends and family. I would have liked to have seen more of Zeer’s direct family though. They are mentioned and even explained who they are and their backstories, but I would have like to have seen them have a more interactive role in the story. But that is a small thing. This book blew me away and I highly recommend it to those who like to read about a strong female character in a fantasy/supernatural book.

Unchained Memory ( Interstellar Rescue Series Book 1)Unchained Memory by Donna S. Frelick
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Unchained Memory: Interstellar Rescue Series Book 1 by Donna S. Frelick, 4 stars.

Asia is missing 3 hours of her life. That small amount of time had a massive effect on her life. Now she is trying to find out just what happened in that time frame. This leads her to Ethan, a psychiatrist who specializes in odd cases. But the feeling they have for one another are not to be shared between a doctor and his patient. Plus, the deeper they delve into what really happened, the more they discover how little they really know. But this isn’t the only issue. Ethan has had other patients with similar experiences. Not to mention the people who seem to be after them. Will they get to the truth of what really happened? Or is the cost of information too great?

This was unlike any book I have read before. It was quite interesting, but I thought there was a little too much going on in the beginning. Later on though, it all evens out and is a little more cohesive, but again, this is just my opinion. The characters were done well, they are not just flat cardboard people put here to take up space. Even the secondary characters are enjoyable and have depth to them. There is plenty going on in this book too, so you will not be bored. Plus it has action, romance, and science fiction aspects to it, covering many genres.

If you enjoy science fiction with action and romance thrown in, this book is for you.

Dangerously Close To Extinction (Knollville Legends Book 1)Dangerously Close To Extinction by C.A. King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Dangerously Close To Extinction (Knollville Legends Book 1) by C.A. King, 4 stars.

Tawny keeps waiting for her father to get back from wherever he is this time. But in the meantime, she will keep up appearances. She doesn’t want anyone to know she is starting to get worried. But then she sees these eyes looking into the house one night. They seem like they are eyes of a beast. Later, it seems like that beast is following her. She hears tell of very large wolves in the area. Then she is basically kidnapped from her own home. She is told that this group and another even worse are all looking for her father. When she is told what these groups really are, it seems like she stepped into a Hollywood movie. But events happen that make her have to trust these people. But didn’t they kidnap her? And what about the one she can’t stop thinking about? To find her father and unravel the mystery, she has to decide whether or not to go with her instincts.

This is a good introduction to a new series. The characters are interesting and we learn just enough to peak our interest. I cannot wait to see how they evolve throughout future books. The story itself is different and fun. There is a lot of action and it puts a young woman in situations she is not prepared for but readily takes on. You don’t know just where the story with take you next either. I like to be surprised while I read so this was selling point for me.

If you like YA paranormal romance and action, this book is for you.

The Girls Across The Bay (Knox and Sheppard, #1)The Girls Across The Bay by Emerald O’Brien
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give The Girls Across the Bay (The Knox and Sheppard Mysteries Book 1) by Emerald O’Brien, 5 stars.

Madigan and Grace met in foster care when they were young and have been sisters ever since. Madigan is a reporter but is frustrated with her job. Grace is a cop who has ended up in a small town since an incident in the city. The two are struggling, but are stronger together. When a murder happens in their small town, the two try to figure out just what happens. But the more they find out, the more it looks like things from their past may be lurking. Will they get to the bottom of it? At what cost?

I really enjoyed this book. Both women have struggled in life, they’re very complicated characters. This makes this book so much more interesting. The other characters just round a good whodunit even more. The story itself is quite interesting too. There are so many twists and turns, which always makes for a great murder mystery. Not to mention all the possible suspects, but you will never know just what happened until the end. I cannot wait to read more of this series.

If you enjoy suspense murder mysteries with strong female main characters, this book is for you.

Aiden is a phoenix that has been held in captivity in bird form for so long that he can barely remember his human side. When he finally gets the chance to flee, he does. He runs into people that say they will help and protect him. And then there’s Lorelei.

Lorelei fell in love with a phoenix 3 years ago before he was taken from her. Since then, she has taken a job as a hunter, hoping to find him again. When she comes across a job that sounds like him, she jumps at it. She finally catches up with him, but he has no memory of her whatsoever. What is she to do now? The people Aiden is with do not trust her, all except the one who has feelings for Lorelei. Is she just chasing a dream with Aiden, or should she continue? Does she go back to her job or give it up to help these who are fighting for the right cause?

I enjoyed this book. It is not very long, but there is quite bit going on. There is romance as well as action. The story is unique to me, as well as the world the author has created. I cannot wait to read more in future books. The characters are interesting too. Each one other them is unique and multifaceted. Some of the secondary characters peeked my interest and I would love to learn more about them too in the future.

Blood Relations (The Sorrel Janes Mysteries) by Lonna Enox – Review by Erin Wolf

Blood RelationsBlood Relations by Lonna Enox
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Blood Relations by Lonna Enox, 5 stars.
**This review may contain spoilers from book one in the series.**

Sorrel is now settled and happy in the small town of Saddle Gap. Her business is open and she has a good set of friends to depend on. Her mentor, John, tells her of a festival that would be perfect for photographers like they are, and she lets herself be talked into it, agreeing to meet him there. But he isn’t there when she arrives. She is not worried at first, but as time passes, she gets a bad feeling. What does she find instead? A dead body in a preservation area. Can Sorrel and Reed figure out what happened to John? Not to mention, who is the dead body? Sorrel feels compelled to search for answers, but things are never as they seem…

I loved book one and was so happy to read another in the series. The first book was great and I loved the characters. This book did not disappoint in the slightest. In fact, I finished it in one night! The whodunit part of books are always my favorite. I love to be kept guessing and I had no idea how this one was going to end. Then there Sorrel and Reed. These are two stubborn people who have difficulty trusting others. But at the same time, they work great together. Then of course there are the secondary characters. I’m so happy they are back, I love them! Oh and did I mention another cat! That right there is the cherry on top. Not to mention that she tells the cats they’re in charge any time she leaves. Such a cat mom thing right there!

I digress. If you like cozy mysteries with lots of action and some parts that just make you laugh, this book is for you. It can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading book 1 first since they are both incredible.

Blackbird's Deliverance (Book Four)Blackbird’s Deliverance by Lisette Kristensen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Blackbird’s Deliverance (Silent Secrets Series #4) by Lisette Kristensen, 4 stars.

Blackbird gave up her past life, including family and friends, to be a Mossad agent. She is happy here, happier than she has been in so long. But now her family is in danger. They were never the closest, but it is her family. Can she just sit back and watch it happen, or can she save them? Do they even need her? She never thought her past would come back to her like this…

This is not a very long book, but it sure packs a lot of action in that space. We learn so much more about her parents in this. Plus her struggles at separating her job from her personal feelings. This is a great addition to the series and I would highly recommend reading the other books first to have a better understanding. But once you pick this book up, you will not be able to put it down until you get to the end. Not to mention the twists along the way.

I quite enjoyed this and I think you will too.

Orion's KissOrion’s Kiss by Claire Luana
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Orion’s Kiss by Claire Luana, 4 stars.

Merope has watched her 6 sisters die; not just once, but lifetime after lifetime. She has yet to break the cycle, but maybe this time will be different. With the help of her best friend, she comes up with a plan that just might work. But once she gets to know the one whom she blames, Orion, the more she changes her mind. Can what he says be true? Can they break the curse together? Or are they doomed to continue the circle of tragedy? What of the feelings she is developing for him?

This was an interesting paranormal romance standalone book. The characters are young, but that does not detract us older readers. I consider for ages YA and older. The main characters are great, as well as the best friends. I would love to see more on the friends at some point, too. The story itself pulls you in and has plenty of action the further in you go. I was excited to see just how everything would turn out and could not put it down.

If you are a fan of YA paranormal romance, I highly recommend this book.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Whom Shall I Kiss… An Earl, A Marquess, or A Duke? (Tricking the Scoundrels Book 1) by Laura A. Barnes, 4 stars.

Sidney is her father’s daughter, she would rather be doing research than attending the balls girls of her age and class normally do. She hates the double standard of the men of the ton getting away with things that would ruin a lady if she were to do the same. So she decides to put her research skills to the test. She decides to trade her practical clothing for something much more alluring and act like the giggly girl they expect. She wants to see if her theory is true. But she may have gotten in a little too deep. She has 3 men fighting for her, and things are moving much more quickly than she could have imagined. Will she be able to walk away with her data or will she disgrace herself and her family? Or will she find what she never expected — love?

I enjoyed this historical romance. It is fun to see a strong woman buck a society that was all male. Sidney and Sophia are great characters. I hope to see more of Sophia in future books. But the other secondary characters are great too and I hope we also see more of them. There is so much more to develop in the world. You never know just what Sidney will do next or how her suitors will react. We cannot forget the romantic part of this story too. The men all love at her differently, and she starts seeing things in a different light too.

If you are a fan of historical romance, this fun story is for you.

Michael's HeartMichael’s Heart by Lori Thomas Harrington
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Michael’s Heart by Lori Thomas Harrington, 4 stars.

Music is Colbie’s life. She feels so much from it. Besides her daughter, it is the love of her life. But she still feels like a part of her is missing. Then her heart stops after a tragic accident and she meets the man she never realized she needed. She wants to stay with him, but he tells her she has much more to do, she has to go back. Can she thrive with her music and family and friends or is she just waiting for the end?

This was an interesting story. It is very moving, you may be teary-eyed at least a few times. It is also very well written. It is obvious the author poured her heart into this story. You will definitely see things differently once reading this. There is usually a reason people act as they do. You may even learn something you never knew. Colbie is a very strong lead character. She has had much happen to her, but she has survived. As much as I like Colbie, I would love to see more of the other characters that interested me so much in a possible series.

If you like moving books about life and love, this book is for you! But don’t forget the tissues!

Scarlet Fever: A Crime ThrillerScarlet Fever: A Crime Thriller by David Stever
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Scarlet Fever: A Crime Thriller by David Stever, 5 stars.

Private eye Johnny is floored when his drop-dead gorgeous client walks in. She then gives him a hefty retainer and asks him to find money that was owed to her mother. Of course, it’s not that simple. Turns out this is missing mob money from 30 years ago. Now he has to track down long retired mob guys and runs into trouble along the way. He’s not the only one looking and the others will do anything to get the dough. Will he be able to find it? At what cost?

Ok, first off let me say that I’m a huge fan of the old noir detectives. In fact, I’m listening to a Philip Marlowe radio show as I write this. This book more than met my expectations. It reminds you of the old detectives, but in the modern setting. Having Johnny and his buddies a little older is great too. They are seasoned, have learned from their experiences. And of course there’s the bombshell client. Throw in the mob and you have a complete package. The story is so good and gripping. I could not book the book down. Not to mention the many twists and turns a good detective story should have. The secondary characters are the cherry on top of this sundae. I cannot wait to see them all in the next book. I have a new favorite author thanks to this book!

If you like hard-boiled detective stories with an exceptional story and great characters, this book is for you.

Ommily shows up at the Soppranaturale Hotel and Link immediately feels the pull towards her. But this isn’t possible, is it? Has he finally found another Faerie? He feel so much more around her, and they feel drawn to each other. They are two halves of a whole, created to work together. Circumstances then throw them into the Gaunlet. Can a woman who has just learned what she is and a man who swore to never turn to violence again win against the top ranking team? What will this mean for the future?

This was quite an interesting book. I liked both the main characters and cannot wait to learn more about the secondary characters. They are all so unique and exciting to me. Basing it around a supernatural hotel is also a wonderful idea. I love this concept. It was a very gripping story too. There are many things going on and a few surprises along the way. This seems to be the beginning of a great series and I anxiously await the next book in the series.

If you like supernatural books with action and romance, this book is for you.

Barbara is a demon and mayor of Las Vegas. She has done many things to get and stay in this position, and she is determined to stay at the top. Besides her visions told her this is so, right? But she can no longer trust her interpretation of these visions. Plus there is someone in town who will literally do anything to win the election. Can they be stopped and at if so, at what cost? Will her former lover who reappears in her life give her a second chance? Is that what she really wants?

I have read every book in this series and I love how every one of them is completely different, yet has a feeling of cohesiveness. Barbara is a much more complex character than I ever thought before. The other characters are back too, which makes it even more enjoyable. The storyline is also interesting and intriguing. Is the bad guy who you think? If so, why? You will be kept guessing until the end.

I give Gumshoe And The Mysterious Mushrooms (Gumshoe Mysteries Book 1) by Laura Hawks, 5 stars.

Mia is a typical teen in high school, she has her own group of friends and she has one main passion – cooking. She’s pretty good at it too, good enough to help her parents put at their soon to open restaurant. Plus, on her 15th birthday, her dad gets arrested and she starts being able to talk with a cat! Can said cat (he says he goes by Gumshoe) help her figure out the mystery behind her dad’s arrest or is everything doomed?

This is a great book! I am leery or YA books because I read too many that don’t appeal to me simply because I am long past that age. After reading the description, I had to pick this book up. Mia is absolutely great. She is level headed and really cares about her family and friends. She does all she can for those in her community. Then there is Gumshoe. I can’t say I’ve met a character like him and I am totally in love with him! The story too is quite interesting. You never really know exactly who is behind it or why until the very end. I like mysteries that keep me guessing. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

If you like supernatural mysteries with a great teen lead character, this book is for you.

I give The Matchmaker’s Match (Man’s Best Friend Book 3) by Nicole Flockton, 4 stars.

Meredith just got out a bad relationship. She decided she doesn’t need a man in her life. However, she sees a sexy man during her layover and decides to go for it. One night stands are not her thing, but it could help get over her ex. Never in a million years would she guess that same man she met in another state would be best man at her best friend’s wedding. And somehow she keeps running into him. Just when she has her life figured out, the powers that be seem to work against her. Is he what she really needs or just another wrench in her plan? And what does he want?

This is a great addition to the series. To be honest, Meredith annoyed me in the beginning of the book. But that is the point and she grows exponentially throughout the book. Lincoln has been a bachelor for so long and has no interest in having kids, but he startd to see things differently when he meets her. He changes in his own way too. The story of the two of them is quite interesting and very realistic. Throw in the dogs, and it gets even better!!

This is a contemporary romance revolving around therapy dogs and I highly recommend it.

Kingdom of War (Kingdom Journals Volume 4) by Tricia Copeland – Review by Erin Wolf

Kingdom of WarKingdom of War by Tricia Copeland
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I give Kingdom of War (Kingdom Journals Book 4) by Tricia Copeland, 3 stars.
*This review may contain spoilers from previous books in the series.*

This Hunter’s story. The Trinity has been united and now it is Hunter’s time to transition into a full witch. But no one knows just what kind of power he will have. He feels the immense power, plus the new responsibilities he now has. Not to mention the darkness that seems to come with it. But he can not let this stop him. Things are happening and creatures are in danger. He may still be a teenager, but he must do this. He, along with his friends, must travel to find ancient artifacts that will help free the lost souls and work to defeat the evil powers who want to control everything. Will they be able to do it?

This quite an interesting story. This is not a standalone, you must read the other books to understand this one. I will admit, it has been a while since I read the previous books and I had trouble getting back into the story. But the characters were good and the story is quite complex. There is much going on and plenty of twists and turns. This is perfect for the young adult age group, being that the main characters are around 17.

If you are a fan of young adult fantasy, then this book and series is for you.

A Deal with Death (Crescent City Wolf Pack Book 4) by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Erin Wolf

A Deal with Death (Crescent City Wolf Pack, #4)A Deal with Death by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give A Deal with Death (Crescent City Wolf Pack Book 4) by Carrie Pulkinen, 4 stars.

Odette has decided that the best way to live her life is to have complete control over is. So she turns her back on her voodoo religion and never lets her control slip. Until she meets James. This hot werewolf makes her think things she doesn’t want. But she feels so good with him. However, she has bigger concerns. Things are happening in her town that she must help stop. Can she let go of the past and help stop this evil?

This is a great book and nice addition to the series. James and Odette are really good characters and while this fits in with the series, it is different enough to stand on its own. Besides the attraction of the two main characters, the suspense side of the story is quite interesting. I could not put this book down.

If you like paranormal romance with a suspense twist, this book is for you.

Obsessed (Lila Casey Series Book 1) by J Collins – Review by Erin Wolf

Obsessed: Lila Casey Book 1 (Lila Casey Series)Obsessed: Lila Casey Book 1 by J. Collins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Obsessed: Lila Casey Book 1 (Lila Casey Series) by J. Collins, 4 stars.

Lila was trying to fight her fear of heights by climbing the stairs in an office building she’s fascinated with. Before she heads back down, she has a panic attack and flees to the closest place to sit down. These aren’t her type of people, but she doesn’t care about that. There she runs into a man whom she can’t stop thinking about. She loves vampire romance and fiction books, is that why she thought she saw fangs? But this is the least of her worries. Turns out there is something even worse after her. Can Adam help her or should she just give up now?

I really enjoyed this book. Lila is a fun, quirky character who really makes this book sensational. But a book can’t rely on that alone. Adam and the secondary characters add variety to this story. The storyline itself has lots of suspense and twists and turns along the way. Lila doesn’t know who to trust or just what to do. I could not put this book down and cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

If you like vampire fiction with a quirky main character, this book is for you.

The Last Dance (The Sorrel Janes Mysteries) by Lonna Enox – Review by Erin Wolf

The Last DanceThe Last Dance by Lonna Enox
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give The Last Dance by Lonna Enox, 4 stars.

Sorrel moved to Saddle Gap to start over. She remembers visiting as a kid, and the fact that her aunt left her the house made it seem like the perfect place. No one knows her here and she can finally be safe. But when people start dying shortly after she arrives, police detective Chris starts wondering. Stuff like this doesn’t normally happen in his sleepy town. Is Sorrel guilty? If not is it somehow connected to her? He knows she has secrets, but what does it all mean?

This was a really good suspense novel. I have not read this author before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Sorrel and her cat are great characters, as is Chris. The secondary characters are also so interesting. I would love to see another book with more about this town. The story itself was so good. It harkens back to the Agatha Christie stories and makes for quite a puzzle. You slowly find out what is going on as you get further in, but there are twists coming you will never see. And I was second-guessing the guilty party until the very end.

This is a great suspense/whodunit with an interesting storyline and I highly recommend it.

The Embers We Seek (A Rebel Princess Serial, #1)The Embers We Seek by Acacia K. Parker
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give The Embers We Seek: Prequel | War of Giants (A Rebel Princess Serial Book 1) by Acacia K. Parker, 4 stars.

Wren, as a captain, will do anything to protect her soldiers, but also feels like she needs to protect the innocents too. She fights when she needs to, but she tries to avoid as much innocent bloodshed as possible. When her leader organizes an attack in which many will lose their lives needlessly, she decides to defy orders and try to stop as much as possible. Going against her orders may cost her life, but it would be worth it. Trouble is, will this work or will it be for nothing?

This was quite an interesting book. I enjoy Wren and think she is a great character. The story itself is different and like nothing I have read before. It pulled me in right away and I could not put it down until I finished. Not too long, it is a perfect summer afternoon read.

If you like fantasy books with a great story and interesting characters, this book is for you.

The Brass Compass: A Novel by Ellen Butler – Review by Erin Wolf

The Brass CompassThe Brass Compass by Ellen Butler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give The Brass Compass: A Novel by Ellen Butler, 5 stars.

Lily is a young American woman who was lucky enough to be able to travel and study abroad when she was younger. This has taught her many things about Europe, including learning multiple languages. After the unexpected death of her mother and the start or World War II, she is too restless to just stay home. She has the deep need to do more. So she becomes a spy and takes a very dangerous mission. When her contact is compromised, she must run for her life. This involves many things she has never prepared for, but she will do anything to survive and pass on the vital information she has. Not knowing who to trust, she must take risks. Will be able to keep her cover and her wits about her?

This is an incredible historical fiction book set mostly during World War II. There are flashbacks from when Lily was younger, but the present day is during the war. The story is not for the weak of heart, there are some things that happen that may upset some readers. Please keep in mind that the main character is in the heart of this tragic war. That being said, I found this book amazing. I really felt like I was there with her. Lily herself is wonderful too. She grows throughout the story and has a heart of gold. You will experience pretty much every emotion while reading. At the same time, you cannot put it down — you want to see what will happen next and how it will all turn out for Lily. I did not know what to expect when I picked this book up, but I was blown away by how good and descriptive it was.

If you are a fan of historical fiction and strong female characters, this book is for you.

An Unexpected Sequel (Paranormal Talent Agency Book 4) by Heather Silvio – Review by Erin Wolf

An Unexpected Sequel (Paranormal Talent Agency Book 4)An Unexpected Sequel by Heather Silvio
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give An Unexpected Sequel (Paranormal Talent Agency Book 4) by Heather Silvio, 4 stars.

Robin is a minion for a low level demon in Las Vegas. The demon got her out of a bad time in her life and she is grateful for that. Most in the supernatural community know who she works for and avoids her. But she has accepted her fate. Until the demon asks something of her that she cannot do — kill someone named Jackson. After she meets him, she is even more sure that she cannot do it. But what will be the cost of refusing? And this attraction between Robin and Jackson — is it real? Does he feel the same?

This is the fourth book in the series, and if you have read any of the books before, you will remember Robin. I admit, I didn’t really have an interest in knowing more about her. However, once I started reading this book, I could not stop! There is much more to Robin than what I previously thought. But this is not just about her. There is plenty of action also going on, not to mention Jackson is an interesting character himself.

This book fits in wonderfully with the series. It can be read as a standalone, but you will understand so much more if you read books 1-3 first. I highly recommend this book is you like fun paranormal romance with some action thrown in.
