So this is the second book that I’ve read by this author. I actually forgot how much I enjoyed this authors writing. From page one I was immediately hooked. Chloe is such a selfless caring person. Even if it hurts herself to save others. I think she is also brave despite her fears of fighting. Sometimes brain is more powerful than brawn. Quietus is proof that people or in this case fae, can change. Together they make a great team. When humans threaten both the fae and mortal world will these two be able to put aside their differences to make it happen? The world the author has built us amazing. I can picture every detail in my mind while reading. It’s packed with action, romance, grief, surprise, and lots of conflict. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

Flame and Crystal Thorns intrigued me from the start. Chloe is not your typical heroine of the fantasy world. She is not the brave warrior running into battle, or manipulating her enemies to bend to her will. Chloe is, however, an insecure healer with quick wit and a sassy spark. While Chloe is all too familiar with the fantasy world, she is perfectly content living amongst the mortals as a town apothecary, and would be just fine if she never had to return to Faerie. Fate doesn’t spin that way this time….does it ever? A fae from her past shows up with some somber news – the castle where her sister dwells has been taken over. Although reluctant, she decides she has to save her sister, so back to Faerie she goes. I have never read anything from this author, so no previous reads are needed to get into this series at all, but I will be grabbing the other books to see if it helps in any way. The world building and characters were well written and easy to follow, definitely worth the time!

I wanted to start this by saying Kay L Moody’s “Flame and Crystal Thorns” (Fae and Crystal Thorns Book 1) is a spin off from Kay L Moody’s “Court of Bitter Thorn” series. I was able to read this without reading court of Bitter Thorn but went back and read it when I was done. Chloe and Quintus are not your typical main characters, but you can’t help but love them. When Quintus shows up from the Fae realm needing the help of kindhearted Chloe, Chloe world is once tipped on its axis. She must find the strength and confidence inside herself to believe what Quintus does, she is the only one capable of saving their world.

Wow just Wow!! This is the first book I have read by this amazingly talented author and I know it most definitely won’t be my last! I was totally hooked from the very start by the creatively written storyline, the wonderful characters and the imagery it all came together to create in my mind. I personally can’t wait to read more in this series but also from this author. To have finally found a series I can share with my daughters is a fantastic feeling and I know they are going to love it as much as I do. The best thing I can do for you is say run don’t walk and grab a copy of this book now! Get to reading all about Chloe and Quintus because you will not regret a single moment!!

When I first started this book, I was unaware that there was a previous series that explained more of the back story of Chloe and Quintus’s relationship prior to the beginning of this book. As I read on, the information the author shared gave me a clear picture of the relationship and definitely made me want to read the original series to get even more information. The author was able to summarize and recap the previous book without it feeling like a recap or rehashing old information. When we meet Chloe, she is living a quiet life in the mortal realm with her family. She still has some access to magic, as she brought a book back from Fairie that helps her in her role as the apothecary, and her brother is a fae, who has masked himself to look like a mortal. She is trying to combat a strange illness that has broken out in her village, one that is similar to an illness she finds in her book from Fairie. As she is trying to save lives, Quintus arrives, demanding she return to Fairie to help the fae fight against the mortals who have attacked them, including her sister. Initially she refuses, she isn’t a fighter, she doesn’t like Quintus and distrusts his motives, and she has people to save from the illness. Unfortunately she realizes that the poison the mortals are using against the fae is poisoning Fairie and it has seeped into the mortal realm, making them extremely ill. If she wants to save her people in the mortal realm, she is going to have to go to Fairie and help fight against the mortals. Despite her physical attraction to Quintus, she doesn’t trust him and doesn’t like him. She just wants to save the fae and go home. Unfortunately the mortals are far more dangerous then she realized. . As they continue to work together and face new dangers, Chloe starts to recognize not only changes in herself, but in Quintus as well. As she starts to trust him further, she starts to realize that some of her core beliefs about herself might not be what she thought they were. The pacing of the story was excellent and the author did a great job of balancing the emotional scenes with action. I devoured the book in one sitting as I wanted to see how things ended. I can’t wait to continue the series and see how things will grow between Chloe and Quintus as they continue to fight for Fairie and the fae in it.

Flame and Crystal Thorns is the first book in Fae and Crystal Thorns Series and is a wonderfully written spin off of the Fae and Bitter Thorn Series. This is a author that I never hesitate to pick up a book by. Her style of writing along with amazing characters make for a epic story every time. This is a Fae/ Fantasy Romance that once I started reading I couldn’t stop. I read this in one afternoon I had to know what was going to happen next. This is a story about Chloe she’s very happy to be back in the mortal realm and has become the town apothecary. All is going well until someone from the past shows up begging her for help. Chloe finds out her sister is being held hostage so she of course packs a bag and off she goes. She quickly finds herself needing help because the Mortals are more powerful than she realized. Can Chloe and her new found friend save her sisters? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

Flame and Crystal Thorns was a true fantasy novel that let me escape the real world, in the best of ways! This book had the romance, adventures, imagery, headstrong that we all hope to find. The main character makes strong similarities with us here in the real world, which brings this fantasy to life. I will admit that now I have to read Kay L Moody’s other series that follow’s Elora as I feel it would have made a better experience as a first time reader of hers. Overall this is an engaging, wonderful read that was hard to put down.

I really enjoyed reading this book! Chloe is a headstrong but compassionate person who cares so deeply about her family. I adore her as a character. The author did a fantastic job of creating the world and illustrating it with their words. I would love to go see Faerie and was fascinated from beginning to end of this book. Quintus is also very headstrong but with such a genuine care for his home. I would love to meet both Chloe and Quintus and talk to them about their different experiences.

This is a Young Adult genre story, This is not my first story from this author. I love reading her works because of her story-telling abilities. She has the uncanny way of grabbing me from the first page until the last word of the book. Her characters are fully developed and complex in nature. This book is no different. In this book, Chloe loves being in the mortal world and not so much in the Fae world. She is a healer and likes the normal pace of the world. Unlike her sister, who loves adventure and the Fae world. Chloe has found out that there is humans holding her sister and other Fae by iron to hold the Fae world hostage. Will Chloe go and help her sister and the other Fae? Will she accept this adventure? I highly recommend this book to seek out the answer to these questions and more.

What a great way to start a series! I did not realise this was a spin off from another series, however, I was still able to enjoy this book as a first in its own. I still recommend reading the prior series first though (I’ll be reading them now!)
The author does some spectacular world building, and I found the main character Chloe super relatable and easy to like. The plot had plenty of drama, action and intrigue to keep you hooked on each page.

This is my first time reading Kay L. Moody and was rewarded with a well written, fairy fantasy story. This is a spin-off from one of Moody’s previous series, The Fae of Bitter Thorn. While this is a new series and can be read without previous knowledge, I did feel like I was missing a little bit of backstory that may have been divulged in the other series. However, the wonderful world building and character development in Flame and Crystal Thorns made it seem as if that previous knowledge was unnecessary. I am a fan of this type of story and have read many fantasy novels over the years, but Kay L. Moody is able to create a world that is unique yet somehow familiar. The struggle Chloe goes through in wanting to help everyone yet having to choose who to save is heartbreaking. Chloe is realistic, witty, and headstrong. I can’t wait to read more from Kay L. Moody!

Flame and Crystal Thorns is the first book in the Fae and Crystal Thorns series. This is an off-shoot series based on an earlier series by the author. I had not read that series but had no issues following and enjoying this book. The story is a young adult series but with a new type of hero. Chloe is not a warrior but a healer and does not live in her homeland of Faerie. She goes back against her will when her sister is in danger. I enjoyed the story and liked Chloe. She is intelligent and caring. I like that she isn’t your typical hero but still succeeds at helping others. I look forward to reading more from this series and seeing where Chloe’s story leads.

Chloe is an apothecary in the mortal realm. She is the one the townspeople come to for help. However, when a fae from her past shows up unexpectedly, telling her she must return to Faerie to help save it, her instinct is to deny his request. Her last time there she was forced into a war and betrayed….so she does not want to be put in that situation again. When he tells her that her sister is in danger, she knows that she must return to keep her safe.

From the moment they arrive in Faerie, Chloe and Quintus are finding danger every turn they make. Chloe’s selflessness, and need to protect others before herself, just might be her downfall. Can she save her sister, and the rest of the fae, before it’s too late? What does her newfound magic, and bond to Quintus, really mean?

This book leaves on quite a cliffhanger…so I will be looking forward to the next book to see what happens. I enjoyed the characters and the action just never seems to stop. Chloe never gets a moment of peace…it seems as though she is always in danger (sometimes from herself). I was engaged with the story from beginning to end.

This book follows the story of Chloe, a strong headed and strong even stronger opinionated apothecary who quite literally runs herself ragged trying to place the needs of others before herself. As her mysterious background is revealed, the reader is shown that although she has direct relation to the fae, her thoughts and desires regarding Faerie are quite the opposite. Having quite literally vowed to never return, it is not until a mysterious illness begin sparking up in mortal realm that threatens more than just the people,that Her past comes barging in. Quite literally.

Que Quinton, a brooding fae male who is more mysterious and closed off than Chloe herself. The reader follows along as Chloe desperately grasps for a cure and finds herself back in the one place she never wish to be, doing something she never thought that she’d be doing. The witty banter, storyline, and overall flow of this book makes it very difficult for the reader to put it down. Having finished it in a day, and then being struck by a cliffhanger, it makes for a wicked anticipation lying in wait for the next installment of the series.

As a lover of both fantasy and the fae, this is an easy read that leans toward more traditional lore, and it is lovely seeing the side of apothecary as well and the strain that being a caretaker can have on an individual. Very well written indeed.

This was another fun fae read! The main character, Chloe, is a mortal and town apothecary and is asked to return to the faerie realm so that she can help save the fae who are being attacked by the mortals. She doesn’t want to leave all of the people that she helps, but since her sister became a fae and is living in the other realm she goes back to help save her. Quintus is the fae who comes to ask for help and there is tension from the moment he arrives. The relationship between Chloe and Quintus is interesting throughout the book and I want to know more about their past. I really liked the world building and the descriptions of the faerie realm. Chloe freezes when in danger and she has to work through many things to be able to help anyone. I didn’t know that this was a spinoff from another series so I will need to go back and read them. I felt like there was so much history about the sister and the backstory between Chloe and Quintus that I needed to know more about!

I really enjoyed reading about this female lead. Typically, the heroine is there kicking down doors ad sprigging into action when there’s a conflict – or at least that’s been my experience – but Chloe is a healer at heart and not one to go running towards danger. The premise of the story felt very well-rounded to me and I was able to picture things in a more realistic way – even if the time the book is set in doesn’t reflect the current period. I’m not normally one for books about the fae, sometimes it just gets too complicated and convoluted for me, but the way this story was written made it easier for me to read through without feeling like I was drowning in information. I was able to read this book without having read the series that originally introduced the characters, but now I kind of want to go back and read Chole and Quintus’s back story for more information. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series and see where the author takes the story from here!

Great beginning for this series! Very good writing and character building. Chloe isn’t your typical strong, go get em type of main character but I really felt a connection with her. She was very relatable. I’m definitely loving Quintus and his whole being. Books about fae are my favorite and this one didn’t disappoint. Great YA book if you love all things fae! It does end with quite the cliffhanger so be prepared to purchase the next book!

This was a really good read. I enjoyed it a lot. The story follows Chloe as she reluctantly goes back to Faerie to save her sister from mortals who are set on taking over the courts of Faerie. Chloe so far has been content with living a normal life in the mortal realm, but puts her personal feelings aside to save her sister. I really appreciated Chloe’s fierce intelligence and drive even in the midst of danger. Also I’m such a sucker for hard headed romance. You know the kind where the main characters get on each other’s nerves, and yet they can’t stay away from one another. Each swears the other one is the most stubborn person they have ever met and yet when their eyes meet they both have to fight not to blush. Yup that’s kind of the vibe this romance gives. And I loved evert bit of it. I can’t wait to see what comes after this.
There was an underlying message that I hope every woman who reads this pays attention to. I won’t spoil it, read it yourself! But all in all if your a fan of Sarah J Maas or Jennifer L. Armentrout then you will like this a lot.
Flame and Crystal Thorns is the first book in this series. It’s a spin off of The Fae of Bitter Thorn series by Kay L. Moody. Although it has a few minor spoilers from The Fae of Bitter Thorn, it can be read and enjoyed as a stand alone series. It honestly is motivating me to check out the other series.

Right away we meet Chloe and learn what a kind and dedicated healer she is. My inner feminist was quickly applauding a female apothecary in a male role.
Enter Quintus, with whom Chloe has a history. He needs her help in faery. She doesn’t want to go, but finds herself with little choice if she wants to save her loved ones.
This was a very well written faery tale that makes you fall in love with the characters as you share their journey.
There is a cliff hanger ending that will have to anxiously awaiting the next book in what promises to be a great series.

This was a great read! I know there was another series before this one, and I do feel like I would understand Faerie and the characters a little bit more if I had of read if first, however I didn’t feel like I missed much in regards to past events with this novel. The writing was phenomenal, and the story telling was magnificent. I was so easily pulled into this story and finished it fairly quickly. I could imagine everything in this book and felt like I was really there. I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait for the next installment!

I really love stories about the Fae realm and this book was no exception. All the little details make it a super fun read. Chloe is a healer and a bit insecure in her daily life although she does has a quick tongue and a bit of bite in her I found her a delightful character. Quintus is a charming Fae character that is your quintessential hero. Strong, pensive with a bent towards protective. Set in sometime period around possibly Victorian times Chloe is making her own way in a world where women don’t work. Quintus comes to the mortal world to get Chloe’s help. Chloe balks at returning to Faerie but Quintus tells her she is the only one who can save her sister. The shocking end made me a bit miffed but hey I am only human! Cliffhangers make me crazy!!! Great read you won’t regret!!

Chloe is happy to go back to the human world after being in the faerie realm with her sister who is queen. Chloe is mortal and prefers to be with her own people even though she loves her sister dearly she just wants to remain being a healer and help people. That is until she is summoned back to the faerie world as her sister is in danger, Mortals have took her castle. Chloe is torn but she will do anything for her sister, with the guide of Quintus who is moody, arrogant and sexy specimen this slow burn romance turns in to something special. Although this does end on a massive cliff hanger ahhh!!!

This is my first book that I have read written by this author. I always love to read paranormal fantasy and this was a great book. The characters are amazing and well written. The story line was different and great. The description and background made it feel like I was there. This book also leaves you with a cliffhanger. I cant wait to see what happens.
Chloe is a young woman and vowed to never return to Faerie again after the dangerous, frightening, and life-threatening events of the past, not to mention the betrayal of someone close to her. She is quite happy in the mortal realm that she even becomes the town apothecary.
When Quintus a frustrating and annoyingly handsome fae from her past shows up she learns that a group of mortals threatens her sister and the other fae, and she may be the only one who can save them. Reluctantly, Chloe packs a bag for what is supposed to be a short trip to Faerie.
When she gets there she realizes these mortals are not ordinary they are fueled by revenge and have weapons.
Can Chloe save Faerie? Will she get the help she needs to overcome the mortals? Will Chloe stay in Faerie and return to the mortal realm?
You need to read this great story….

I did not realize that this was a spinoff series by this author of a previous series. That being said, I had no problem understanding the story and it was easily read as a stand-alone series. I was drawn to this book because of the beautiful cover. Once I knew that it was a magical book about faeries, adventure, fighting for those you love, and a series that will continue, I was all in. I definitely felt some connections with the main character and how her life went down a different path than she expected. I am excited to see where the second book leads! I wish I lived in this magical world.

Non-Binary representation in a fantasy story that doesn’t feel like it’s forced. It’s rare to find that so major kudos to Elise Carlson.

Fans of Narnia will enjoy this fast paced story that shows the power of strength & community. A story that is full of action, betrayal, survival of life, abductions and you don’t want to miss the assassins. This is a fast paced, engaging story that was hard to put down. The plot had great growth which made the story easy to read as well as entertaining.

I’m looking forward to the sequel coming out! I would recommend this to teenagers and even adults like myself who have always hoped for a great representation of us in print.

So, I may start letting some time filter through before reviewing some books because I’m a little miffed at the ending…. I mean, come on!
This read…. Chloe is not your typical main character. She’s a little weak, a lotta insecure and she stumbles more than Ella Enchanted does; but, she is understandably relatable. That selfess motivation to help those around you does have a tendency to wear you down and some of those enlightening moments really stuck with me. I really enjoyed that theme throughout this book.
This series is a spin off series from the author’s Court of Bitter Thorn series. I think I would have fared better having read the other series previously, but I fared decent during my read. Quintus is a fae from the fae realm that shows up randomly needing Chloe’s help. There is some definite tension from a history that isn’t completely conveyed throughout this series; so I spent a good moment wondering what I missed.
I can’t count how many times my brain said “Go Quintus!” while reading, despite not know the full story. I’m definitely team Quintus!
A pretty slow burn book with forced proximity, a good morality and a cliff hanger ending that will take me a minute to get over. Where’s book 2?

I liked it! I really did! But the main protagonist in Flame and Crystal Thorns, drove me crazy. She was all I could battle then would completely freeze up during battle. I understand she had trauma but she needed to admit she needed help.
Chloe, a human who lived in the Faerie realm. Is just coming into being an adult after being involved in war. Now in the human realm as an apothecary trying to find her way where she belongs. Has been dealing with an unknown human illness, till she’s called upon to return to Faerie.
Quintus is calling on her to return. The humans are trying to destroy Faerie with iron. Iron is poisonous to not only the realm but also everyone of Far descent. He firmly believes she’s the only one that can help save them in this battle. Unfortunately she’s not being very cooperative.
Fighting their mutual feelings for one another, the growth between these two is a site to witness. I feel a massive love hate relationship between the two, which makes me look forward to future books in this series. I look forward to their character development together and a part.
The author definitely created some characters I’m really curious to stay with through their journey.
Despite Chloe’s resistance she ends up with the issues in both realms are connected. To save the humans, they need to heal Faerie from iron poisoning.
What will happen? Do they succeed? What about the feelings for one another they tiptoe around?
A new series that potentially fuels excitement for anyone who loves to get lost in the Fae world. I look forward to what’s next!!

I have found that the world of Fae is not only magical, it also some romance mixed in. I enjoyed the way the world was described and how it was introduced. The author did a good job of describing the world and the characters within it. The story has a way of pulling you in slowly and keeping your attention until the end. It is the perfect blend of fantasy, romance, mystery, and action. Ember and Gravyn, the story’s main characters had a connection from the beginning and it starts off rocky, but then quickly turns into a different kind of relationship. There were many different plot twists, but that just enhances where the story goes.

Chloe is a human girl from the mortal realm. Chloe knows all about the Fae world and would much rather stay in her safe mortal one. But unexpectedly has to return to the Fae realm to protect the people she cares about. Love this book and can’t wait for the rest of the series.
