Out of the shadows by Theresa Sederholt is a very moving and emotional story of a loving dad who deals with the horror of domestic violence. The way that the author describes the feelings and emotions of the main character Dane and his son is very respectful and brings light to an issue that is not commonly talked about. Dane became a father at a very young age and now, in his thirties, he is doing all he can to keep his son safe from his alcoholic and violent wife. This is a very emotional story and I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. Very well written.

This was my first time reading anything by Theresa Sederholt, but I would definitely choose more books by this author in the future. The book delves into the sensitive and heartbreaking topic of domestic abuse, and does a fantastic job of highlighting the fact that men are often victims of this too. The book was mostly written from the perspective of husband Dane and son Brady, and to be honest I would have loved even more time to get to know these characters. Though the book is harrowing at times you can always feel the love that Dane has for his son. At the start of the book the author warns of the story containing triggers for victims of domestic violence, so this book isn’t suitable for everyone. Of course this book is difficult to read at times, but the author handles it with extreme care, and throughout the story the message for me is that you are not alone.

Flowers in December Trilogy: Flowers in December, Coming Home, Second Chance by Jane Suen 4 Stars
These books show the changes and evolution of Connor which take place within the span of two years approximately. It starts with Flowers in December and the death of his mother. Connor is trying to deal with his grief and regret of not visiting more often. It is more about his inner journey and facing his own mortality.
His story continues in Coming Home. It is a story about love and forgiveness. He returns home for his first Christmas without his mother. It’s rough but being with friends and helping his neighbour aids him in healing. It is a Christmas story with deeper meaning.
In Second Chance, we see more of the relationship between Connor and Mary Ann. Each trying to decide what it is that they really want. It is an easy to read romance. This trilogy flows effortlessly into each other. You feel a range of emotions from grief to acceptance, nervousness to euphoria. These are well written books showing the evolution of one man through a meaningful time in his life.

I loved this book. I was hooked from the very first page and couldn’t put it down. This authors writing is creative and I could feel the emotions with every line. This is a short story and it is about a man named Dane who is hiding a very big secret that is fixing to be spilled for the world to see. I love the character development for him, he was already strong but by the end he was so much stronger and has his head held up high. I am so looking forward to reading more by this author in the future! Happy reading!

FLOWERS IN DECEMBER TRILOGY by Jane Suen contains all three books in the Flowers in December series: Flowers in December (Book #1), Coming Home (Book #2), and Second Chance (Book #3). This is a lovely series-
Flowers in December is the first book in the Flowers in December Trilogy and is a beautiful story. I have read a few of Ms. Suen’s books now and enjoyed them all, but I have to say that this one is definitely my favourite so far. Having lost a parent myself, this story touched a cord with me and I could really relate to Connor and what he was going through. This story may be small when it comes to pages, but doesn’t lack in the content department. Ms. Suen had me hooked quite quickly and held my attention the whole way through. As it is a short story, I finished it in a small amount of time- but because of the way the author infused so much emotional content into the story- it has stayed on my mind even after moving on to other books since finishing it. That is a great sign of a talented author and a wonderful story. The story deals with and explores quite a lot in a short space- loss, grief, mortality, the passage of time, realization/discovery, learning to let go of the past, being hopeful, embracing life, and making meaningful connections. The story was relatable and entirely believable. There were some truly beautiful passages throughout this book that lifted the story from being heavy or depressing- giving it some very touching/heart-warming qualities.
Coming Home is the second book in the Flowers in December Trilogy. We meet back up with Connor, four months after the end of the first book. He has ‘come home’ for the holidays as a way of honouring his mother and his/their memories . This story is a continuation of the first book, with Connor still coming to terms with his mother’s passing, the grieving process, self-realization, forgiveness, finding a way to move forward, mending bridges, hope, love, and emotion- which happens over the course of the story. I loved it even more than the first book. I really recommend reading the first book before starting on this one, as all the backstory and other relevant information is contained in that book. Ms. Suen had me hooked quite quickly and engaged me the whole way through. It is a short story, and I finished it quite quickly- but as with the first book, the author infused so much emotional content into the story- it has stayed on my mind long after finishing it.
Second Chance is the third and final instalment in the Flowers in December Trilogy. It is everything I could have hoped for as the conclusion to Connor’s story. A lot has happened since we met him back in book one. This sweet story is all about second chances- with a very realistic and believable storyline. Ms. Suen definitely saved the best till last, as this is my favourite of the three books, for sure. For such a short story, it definitely leaves an impression.
Looking forward to what ever Ms. Suen decides to do next!

FLOWERS IN DECEMBER TRILOGY: Flowers in December, Coming Home, Second Chance by Jane Suen
Each of these stories got to my feels in a way that I had to process my thoughts and feelings before I could move forward.
Conner deals with a lot of different emotions in each of the books. The first is guilt after losing his Mother. Then of course he goes through all of the phases of grief which is a roller coaster of emotions l. You hit the peaks and valleys of the different feelings sometimes simultaneously, especially when dealing with the loss of a parent or strong a parental figure.
I have lost my Daddy and a close Mother type figure in my life and could relate all too well to his emotions and how there were some days he just made it through on auto pilot.
I enjoyed all of the books but think the last was my favorite. Conner finds happiness in his day to day life which isn’t easy without the additional challenges he faced.

Jane Suen has a unique writing style that always pulls me deep into her books. I really enjoyed this trilogy and I liked the way the different struggles were written in, such as, dealing with grief, loss and second chances at love. Reading through Connor and Mary Ann’s story is frustrating, heartbreaking and beautiful and I would highly recommend this great set of books.

This is a great trilogy about hope, loss, love and second chances. This is a great author that I never hesitate to pick up and have read every one of her books. They are well written, engaging stories that will keep you turning pages to the end. It takes you through Mary Ann and Connor’s relationship and life struggles. I loved watching their relationship grow with each book. They are great characters that are strong and have great chemistry. They bring the story to life and made me feel as if I was part of their story. I highly recommend reading this trilogy, you won’t regret picking it up.

The stories in this boxset are amazing. They will pull you in and not let you go until you have read the final one. I loved the characters of Connor and Mary Ann. Connor has come home for his mother’s funeral. Home is a place with a lot of memories. As he grieves, he also finds himself talking to Mary Ann. Mary Ann owns a small-town flower shop. She is well known in town and goes out of her way to make sure the flower arrangements she makes are beautiful and well done. She meets Connor and then just as quickly he disappears. Will Connor come back? Will Mary Ann still be interested as he didn’t tell her why he left? What does the future hold for Mary Ann and Connor? Read these stories to find out. These stories are emotional and mine was going up and down the entire time I was reading them. I grew to care about Connor and Mary Ann and wanted them to find happiness. There are heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. The stories flow smoothly, and I found them wonderful to read. I also liked the additional characters that are introduced and how they interact with Connor and Mary Ann. Even the family’s orange tabby cat has a part to play. FLOWERS IN DECEMBER TRILOGY: Flowers in December, Coming Home, Second Chance by Jane Suen is an emotional series that focuses on grief and self-discovery. Having all three books is a bonus because you don’t have to wait for the next book to be available, they are all right there ready and waiting to go.
Flowers in December is the first book in the series and is a very short tale and is a touching story of one person’s grief. It is a very emotional time for our main character, which sees him going through a myriad of emotions on this journey which also leads to self-discovery. The writing style is easy to follow, but I did find it hard to hold my attention at times, with the overly polite conversations taking place, but Jane did a nice job of dealing with the sensitive issue death. This book will remind you not to take others for granted in your life and suddenly finding your place in the world even through loss.
Coming Home: the sequel to Flowers in December is a story of one man who after the death of his mother is learning to deal with his grief. In order to pull himself out of his funk he has decided to leave his old life behind and start anew where he grew up. With old friends and new he celebrates the season of his first Christmas without his mother. It is a very quick but emotional read. Jane is a master at never doing what you think should be and always leaves me a little frustrated. But having said that she always writes from the heart and that is infused within her words in her stories. Read and enjoy but you need to read the first book Flowers in December first.
Second Chance: The Conclusion of the Flowers in December Trilogy is an emotional journey where my emotions were all over the place. This is a second chance romance story that I read in one sitting. The characters of Mary Ann and Connor Norton are likeable and well developed. There was some going back in time with Mary Ann’s history some helped but Jane is a master at never doing what you think should be and always leaves me a little frustrated. But having said that she always writes from the heart. Connor’s withdrawal from the world after his mother’s death left Mary Ann wondering what was going on. When he recovers enough, he decides that he needs her but is she still there and waiting?

I could not believe it but I also understood how difficult it was to just leave. So many people do not understand it. I love that the author created this book and shared this story. I hope that it reaches many individuals and helps them out in their own lives. This book easily is 5 stars and I highly recommend it.

Ok, let me dry my face first so I can see what i am writing here. Don’t be filled by the page count, this may be a little over 100 pages, but the story in this book is so much more than the page count. I have NEVER felt like this after a book and to be told in mostly the male pov. Bravo to this author, seriously, this has so many things going on and done so seamlessly. Male POV, child POV, domestic violence, just to name a couple. While this touches and walks you through the tough battles it is done so as to be an eye opener, bringing these situations to light and shows that anyone can be going through this at any time. Dane and Brady are living day to day until Julie makes the same threat twice and Dane must take action. I didn’t expect the actions of Brady but what courage! I will read anything by this author shes got a gift!

I knew this story could be a bit of an emotional journey but I don’t think I was really prepared for all the emotions I went through. It’s been a while since I’ve felt so much reading a story and this author wrote it all so well. It’s full of not only heartache and emotions but secrets and raw story telling. I felt The author wanted readers to become emotionally invested, and I can honestly say I definitely felt it. I loved everything about this story and the characters that I’ll never forget. It’s a shorter read but it packs a punch so go get it and get ready to be wowed. Five stars all the way and highly recommended.

Wow just Wow. I’m at a loss for words. I can’t say I loved this book because I feel like that’s wrong. Every book I’ve ever read by this Author I’ve loved. This one shattered my heart and played with my emotions. I can’t say I know or even understand how or what they went through because I don’t, but I was pretty much holding my breath and praying so hard it didn’t end badly . My heart hurt for Dane and Brady. Dane has a secret one that’s about to come to out. The way he handled it was all he could do. He was trying to keep Brady safe. This story may be a trigger for some so be aware that does have domestic violence. I never really gave it much thought that it could happen to men,but it definitely can and probably does more than we realize. I highly recommend reading this Book. Its definitely an eye opener and will take you on a emotional rollercoaster ride that will have you on the edge of your seat. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

Out of the Shadows by Theresa Sederholt is an emotionally charged, incredible story that will complete devour you. I didn’t really know anything about this book before I started reading it. I have read a few books by this author before so know enough to assume it would be good. I was not prepared for the emotions that would be thrown at me and how much I would be captivated by them. This is a fantastic story, and one that I am glad we are being told. It has a uniqueness that isn’t often found in books of this genre. It has been so well written. You cannot help but connect with the MC and his son. My heart bled for them throughout this book and all o wanted was for them to find their way. This is an amazing book and easily my favourite by this author so far.

This is a very emotional book to read and deals with the subject of domestic violence against men and shines a light on it in a sensitive way
Dane is a family man completely devoted to his son Brady. He is also married to Julie who is an alcoholic and violent. Her abuse shows itself in attacks against Dane and occassionally Brady.
Dane knows he has to leave but doesnt know where to turn and he can’t leave Brady with his abusive mother.
It all comes to a head after a very violent incident which sees Brody seriously injured and Julie stabbed. This is the wake up call Dane needs to leave but things arent that simple.
Its an emotionally charge story but amazingly written.

I’ll start with how excited I was to grab this book, I will read anything and everything this author writes, and holy moly did she write this one… I live in my safe little world not totally ignorant because I know stuff happens out there that I just can’t wrap my head around, but this story totally blew my mind. This gave me a whole different perspective that I’d never truly even thought about.
I read this literally in under an hour, and I have to appreciate that this couldn’t have been an easy story to write but was done beautifully. This had my emotions all messed up and I sat and thought for a bit after I was finished and still really dont have the words needed to do this story justice.

First of all- you will definitely need a box of tissues and glass(es) of wine as you embark on this journey. It is full of heart-aching and heartbreaking details, which really flung my emotions all over the place. Out of the Shadows by Theresa Sederholt is definitely not what I was expecting- it caught me by surprise, then hit me with a few emotional punches. It is a powerful story full of secrets, heartache, emotion, and dramatic developments that had me flipping the pages and reading along through tear soaked eyes, becoming completely invested in the story. The story takes an unexpected look at a sensitive subject- giving an original and unusual perspective on the subject- in a very honest, yet sensitive way. But be prepared to have your emotions wrung out- because Ms. Sederholt doesn’t hold back. This may not be what I was expecting- in a good way- it has definitely touched me and left its mark. Out of the Shadows by Theresa Sederholt was a painful book to read. I have to tell you though, I read it from first page to last in one sitting. It woke up memories in me from my own past. Dane’s experience is not something that anyone that has been through domestic violence wants to share openly. It’s not like having a conversation about the laundry or your son’s little league game. It’s an experience of shame, regret, and fear. And if you have managed to physically and mentally survive it you spend the rest of your life trying to keep that door shut. Out of the Shadows is a book everyone should read. Someone you know is going through this, and they think they are alone. I did.

Out Of The Shadows by Theresa Sederholt was an emotional story that was so heartfelt that it broke my heart. It is a story of pain and violence and being broken by what happens to those suffering through it. I applaud Theresa who has done a wonderful job on the writing of this subject and she has done such a great job of painting the picture which stands out and is so vivid. It is a very touching and thought-provoking story that you can’t help but want to reach out and help. Even though the story is fiction, as Theresa writes there is very little for those in the world who go through this and being too scared to own up to being less than what they perceive as being. It is a real-world problem and hopefully stories like these will help. Even after reading it I am still thinking about the story. Well done Theresa.

Out Of The Shadows by Theresa Sederholt. This book was OMG amazing. It was so emotional and heartbreaking I caught myself bawling thru a lot of it. Its the story of Dane Johnson a man in his 30s who is living in literal hell. His wife Julie is a horrible, self centered, witch and she does nothing but use their 13 year old son Brady to hurt Dane even more. Dane’s main goal in life is to protect Brady from this horrific nightmare they are living. Brady is a strong, sweet, brave alas awkward teenage boy who has experienced way more than he should at 13 years old. Dane has tried to keep his world secret but it has come to light and now he has to live with that. Abby the guidance counselor at Brady’s school is trying to help them both but until Dane leaves the situation it won’t get better. I have never read a book about this subject and this one left me drained. I loved it but it is very emotional and once you start reading you won’t want to put it down! Do yourself a favor and read this book!

Out of The Shadows by Theresa Sederholt was absolutely incredible. There are several triggers in this book if you have experienced or been a victim of domestic violence or assault. This book captured me from the first page. I couldn’t put it down. This was one of the most heartfelt and broken hearted stories I’ve read in a while. There are so many people that can relate to this novel, but also for the ones who can’t Sederholt does an incredible job painting that picture. This story I think was meant to spread a message, and what a message it is. 5/5 stars from me, I highly recommend this novel for not only the ones who have been through abuse before, but especially for the ones who haven’t. You never know what is going on until you’re moving through it in your own life.

I want to start off by saying I LOVE the quote on the last page. It’s by Ralph Waldo Emerson. He summed up the reason for this book perfectly. Sadly, domestic violence is a problem. This story tells an unusual tale of the male being the victim. It shows his shame and embarrassment as well his loss of what to do. He seems to flounder a lot just trying to survive every day. Luckily there are people out there to help it’s just getting the courage before it’s too late.
This is well written and it makes me think. It drew me in from the beginning and I was hooked until that last sentence. The characters seemed real and I was concerned for them. I have read others by this author and she seems to never disappoint me.

Dane Johnson is married and has one child. He has a secret that is about to come back and haunt his life. His most important plan is to get him and his son out alive. This story is very much about Domestic violence, and how to ask for help. This book is all about fighting for what is right.
Theresa Sederholt had written a very clear story. She went in with one thing, to show Men just like Women fear Domestic Violence. It is not always the women that get hurt. I fell in love with the bravery Dan and Brady showed. How they took control of their lives and did what needed to be done. They ASK FOR HELP! Theresa Sederholt touches on many aspects of domestic violence and how things change in the blink of an eye. Well done!

The story Out Of The Shadows by Theresa Sederholt is a book that I found both heartbreaking and emotional. It is a story that has moments when I wondered what was going to happen next. The character of Dane Johnson has a secret that he doesn’t want anyone else to know about. Dane is a man who is trying to keep a boy safe. His story and situation is one that is not always told or a lot of attention given to. He is a man who must find the strength to reach out for help. This book has moments where I found myself with tears in my eyes and other times wondering how things were going to end up. This is a story that had a powerful effect on my emotions, and I found myself thinking about it long after I had finished. Don’t miss out on a book about strength and courage. It is a story I would recommend reading.

I loved this book! I never regret picking up one of this author’s books. They are creative, engaging and written with heart. This is a short story about Dane who has a secret that is about to come out and the emotions he goes through as he protects the most important thing in his life. He is a strong character that I felt bad for in parts and the emotional roller coaster he took me on kept me turning pages. This story can be a trigger for some as it was for me but a comfort that you are not alone in the hell you lived in. I highly recommend reading this book as it is a book of strength and healing. You won’t regret picking it up!

I really enjoyed reading light hearted book rooted in deep emotions. This books has ups and downs, twists and turns, but I didn’t find it too emotionally heavy. It does make you realize life is too short to hold grudges, especially when it comes to family. It also gives you an in depth perspective of how strong a sisters bond could be. You will read this booking asking yourself could these sisters forgive each other? Was the hurt and pain just to much to mend fences. I think no matter if you have a sister, small or big family everyone has dealt with unpleasant situations in their family dynamic. I felt that is how the book is very relatable even if the topic at hand is different. I will say while reading this book you don’t know whether you want to scream or cry.
