Loretta was out collecting pine needles for her strawberry mulch, when she came across ladybugs. Her mother told her that ladybugs are friends and they will help with spring harvest. That year they had the best harvest, and as winter approaches, the ladybugs go and hide away to help again next year.<br />Lois did another amazing book! Between the descriptions of the story and the art of the book. It was such a cute and quick read. We really enjoyed this one.

As with all Amaleigha books, this one is full of hope and kindness. These stories are adorable and compassionate, and inspire change in the sweetest ways. This one in particular was wonderful because there are Little Free Libraries all over our neighborhood, & that recognition was very exciting for us. One of my lifelong favorite poems was also included after the “how to” section as well, so that was delightful! My family has really come to love Amaleigha, & my older daughters even “want to be friends with her” =) I would definitely recommend this book & series to other families with children who want to make a difference.

First time reader of Author Janice Pratt, and not gonna be the last. I think this book was a cute short, easy story to read with your family. I really liked how it shows you how at the end she shows you how to create your own book box. We have multiple in the area I live in. I love them. We stop like once a week to swap out our books for new ones. They also have different books on culture and languages which I also like.

This is a nice story that shows young ones that they can make a difference in the world. Amaleigha is a strong girl who wants to help those that need it. When she realizes the lack of books for the students and their families that speak other languages at her school and neighborhood Amaleigha decides to do something about it. It was nice to see a book about a someone so young doing something for their neighborhood, giving children someone that they can relate to and showing that they can make a difference as well no matter what their age. I liked seeing the multiple languages in the book as well as the instructions in the back on how to do this in your own neighborhood.

Amaleigha Loves a Good Story by Janice Pratt. I love these books so much. They are so cute! This one is about Amaleigha and how big her heart is and how she always thinks of others before herself. When she goes to the library and notices that the bilingual section doesn’t have many books she hatches a plan to change that. Getting help from others that are able to find more books she is able to change her library. This book shows kids of all ages that they can change things to if they really want to. Such a fun book with a great lesson. My 4 year old nephew loved it! This book will be great for gifts as well.

Ladybugs for Loretta (Loretta’s Insects) by Lois Wickstrom – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

I have read a couple books by this author and I think this is my favorite so far. This children’s story is actually semi-”normal” for this author and provides children with a lot of information. Loretta is a little girl who loves to be mischievous, who one day stumbles upon a group of ladybugs all huddled together. She decided to bring them home where she learns that ladybugs stay in one spot and don’t eat while it is cold. So, Loretta decides to store them in her refrigerator to keep them to help her garden grow in the spring. However, everyday she was bringing more and more ladybugs home and the fridge had no more room left. Finally, though, spring came and it was time for the ladybugs to do their job in the garden. That summer they had the best crops their garden had ever seen, but when winter came, once again they would go under a rock till the next spring.
I actually learned something reading this book. I always knew that ladybugs were great for the garden. I went to a college that lived near a farm and each spring we would be bombarded with ladybugs in our dorm rooms because they used the ladybugs to keep all their plants healthy. However, I did not know about their habits in the winter. I found it strange and intriguing that Loretta kept the ladybugs in the fridge and they would be just fine once it was warm again. I love when I can read something that would teach my children and me something new and useful!!

4 Stars!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I enjoy Lois Wickstrom’s books not only the adult in me but also for my great niece’s and nephew as well. As we open up the book, we learn that Loretta and her family have a big garden to take care of so they can have food for the winter. Loretta tries hard to make sure no critters take their food from the garden. Loretta finds these ladybugs and we journey to find out how ladybugs are beneficial to gardens.

This story really captures learning all about ladybugs, even I learned things I did not know myself and curiosity. The story is enjoyable for all ages.

This is a cute story about a mischievous little girl who falls in love with ladybugs and wants to save them all. Loretta as a character is true to a child’s view point. The reader cheers her on as she finds more ladybugs. Never thought about putting ladybugs in the refrigerator before, and the story gives the reader information about them on story form. The illustrations are beautifully painted watercolour scenes!

This is a very cute story and the first in the series. I read this to my niece and she absolutely loved it. Loretta lives in a cabin with her family and she is a little mysterious. She goes outside and finds some ladybugs. Loretta is very curious about how they live in the winter and she brings them home with her. She ends up understanding a lot more about ladybugs than she ever thought. This is a very cute and educational read for kids.

I truly enjoy reading book’s with a pure heart. This author did a great job. Amaleigha is kind, wanting to help others, and feeling safe to share her ideas with others. Current times at times and with certain people we cant do that. So reading this book just makes me feel like we lost touch of that. Needs to be more positive open communication.

I enjoyed this book. I think it would be a fun book for kids to learn about ladybugs and then afterwards go outside and find some. The facts about ladybugs in this book is very education even to me, as an adult. I didn’t know that ladybugs were alive in the winter and lived in an almost state of rest until the weather warmed. It is also nice to see the little girl, Loretta, so interested in her garden and being outside playing.

Amaleigha loves helping people and recently she’s noticed a need in her local school library. She presents an idea to her teacher and her grandfather, and together with other trusted adults, they hatch a plan to include bilingual books in the school library.

This is a cute book that could inspire a youngster to want to find a way to help others, whether it be a bilingual library like Amaleigha or some other brilliant idea. It also encourages readers to seek out others who may have experience in a given area that could possibly help them to implement their idea to fruition. I also like how this book featured multiple different languages to give young readers a multicultural experience while reading the book.

Another cute story about Amaleigha. A six year old little girl with a heart of gold. She reminds me of my 6 year old son. Constantly so thoughtful and caring. Always thinking of others and how to make them happier and their lives better. In this book, she thinks about other kids who may speak and read different languages, and their need for books in their own language! Such a sweet thought. I hope there will be more in this series.

Amaleigha loves reading! She even goes to the library often. As she visits she notices many people and their different languages. Looking further into the availability she notices, there are not enough books for them to read. So she sets forth a plan, thinking she can do it. Can she? How about getting others involved, will they want to help? Once again this author has written another easy to follow and fun to read for children. I love how Amaleigha gets others involved. As does the author! I look forward to seeing where Amaleigha and this author goes next. I truly enjoyed reading this to my grandchildren.

This book is about a brother and sister that fight about everything. While they get very creative in trying to outdo one another, I think maybe a parent should have stepped in a couple times here. This is often the kind of sibling rivalry we see. Normally though the siblings grow closer as they get older. Realistic in nature, overall a cute story!

I liked the idea of this story, however I also felt somewhat confused as it seemed to jump from one thing to the next and a little hard to follow. Also the kitten’s name was “Stuck” and it was stuck in a tree so that was a bit confusing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

When the main character Caspian and his grandpa are on a walk they discover something that makes him go home and get ready for an adventure where he meets a new furry friend!
The book is very colourful and keeps your attention as you read each page. As a teacher of young children under the age of 5 this book is great for learning about adventures and that sometimes you don’t always succeed on what you intended to do!
Overall I would highly recommend this book to parents and caregivers of young children.

This book is fun and teaches kids all about Ladybugs and their habits. How ladybugs help the gardens and where they go when it’s too cold for them. It is super cute and will help teach children to love ladybugs. Let’s just hope none of them want to store them in the fridge like Loretta. This book is educational and very fun. This is the 4th book in the Invisible Magic Wand Series. Though it can be read as a standalone book, it would add context to the story if you read the other books in the series. I really enjoy Lois Wickstrom’s writing and have read several books by them to my family. As always, the colorful images help guide the reader through Caspian’s adventure. These imaginative stories not only help a child to use their imagination but to also try and figure out ways to solve problems in everyday life.

What would you do if you saw a kite in a tree? Well, Caspian decides to go get his magical hot chocolate socks that Grandpa had given him for his unbirthday. Using those “magic” socks, Caspian starts on an adventure where he follows a cat that might not just be your average cat after all. This is a cute, fun read that might take a little more imagination than some of the other books in the series as it’s a little harder to see how things correlate. That being said, I think it’s just another way to get children to see just how far their imagination can go. I can’t wait for more books from this author.

This was a short and engaging story designed to make children think about the world around them. Although the themes of the story were probably slightly beyond my little ones this book certainly got my eldest interest in libraries. And while she may not have understood everything she loved looking through the images.
This is only the second book by this author that we have read but it was just as enjoyable as the first book. It is one we could all sit down and read together and I am looking forward to us all being able to discover more of her work in the future.

When Caspian spots a kitten stuck in a tree, he wants to rescue the kitten. He goes home and puts on the Hot Chocolate Socks that he received for his Unbirthday from his Grandpa. He sets off on his flying broom to rescue the kitten from the tree. When Caspian gets back to the tree the kitten takes off in a flying saucer.

This was a cute little story about trying to rescue a kitten from a tree. The illustrations were beautiful and helped to bring the story to life. The general idea of saving the kitten from the tree was good, but I thought it was odd to pour hot chocolate on the socks. I also got a bit lost and confused at the end of the book when the flying saucer suddenly appeared. Kids would probably find the kitten to be funny with his antics. Overall, it was a cute story.

Another stand out magical adventure from this author. The Sneaky Kitten brings a fun storyline with amazing illustrations and imagery. Even though the writing is simple there is so much more within the pictures. As with the previous books in the series, Caspian and his grandpa are having a magical time with a very mischievous kitten. The story will very easily provoke imagination and discussion among young readers.
