I’m so happy I picked up this book to read. I’ve enjoyed several books by this author so I jumped at the chance to read the first book in the new series. A fun young adult paranormal book that includes a first year witch who finds herself at the Grave Digger Academy when her hopes were to attend better academies that were available. How will Makayla survive this low point, deal with a villain, and still learn valuable knowledge to be something more? Makayla is young and just figuring out things in life. She is challenged not only by things she is learning at the academy but also things she didn’t expect. The new environment and friends help her find her way and experience life away from family. It kind of reminded me of when I went to college and had to figure out life.

This is the second book of the Grave Digger Academy series and it did not disappoint. I read the first one last year and thought I would lost when I decided to read the second one a year later but it was really easy to get back into the groove. The way the author writes is really easy to follow and they really know how to broaden their horizons. I have read a few different works from this author and each book has a completely different genre and world. The author does not disappoint.
It is Makayla’s second year in the academy and due to the shenanigans of the first year, the Headmistress has decided to forgive and forget if Makayla and her small group of friends attend the academy games. The group starts training for the games with little hope of winning them. All the while Makayla is still on the lookout for Wholly who has not been seen since last year.
Can the academy win the games and will Wholly show up to take revenge on Makayla? Read the second book now!

This is the second book of the Kingdom of the Elf Lords series and this time it follows Émilien and Hel.
Émilien was an Elven lord once married to Hel – the goddess of the dead and daughter of Loki. Émilien was cursed to live out the rest of his days as a werewolf and lost the love of his life as well. They had a daughter together but Hel wanted her daughter oblivious to her parents origin. She knew her father too well and did not want to give him any fuel to mess around with what was hers.
In the first book Émilien found his long lost nephew he didn’t even know existed. After finding out that his brother disappeared long ago, Émilien decides to find them if it’s the last thing he does.
Something is amiss. Forces are trying to stop Émilien from continuing his search. Meanwhile the dead seem to be disappearing from Hel’s realm. Émilien and Hel have to try to put their differences aside to save those around them, including their daughter.
This book was much more exciting and action packed than the first book. I enjoyed reading about the couple’s love/hate relationship and found myself rooting for them to have a happy ending.

Bernard was a soldier in World War II, losing his wife and kids at Pearl Harbour sent him spiralling. He focused all his time and devotion into the war. When he passed away, Freyja gave him a second chance and brought him into her court. All he could think about was what he had lost. In his depression he comes up with the idea to travel back in time and alter what happened to try to save his family. Like they say in all time travel related things, even the smallest change can alter all of history and boy did it ever. Bernard, with the help of Freyja, other gods and goddesses, Alva, elf lords, and witches, try to fix what Bernard started.
The theory was very appealing to me but I lost some interest when the book started delving into the politics and what not of World War II. Also Bernard seemed to be on repeat. I found he said the same things over and over, making him kind of dull in my eyes. Luckily his story picked up later on and my interest came back.
Meanwhile, I was interested in Alva’s story and still am. She is a Huldra which is a creature who feeds off of the life-force of men. They have bark on their backs and tails. Never being comfortable draining men to their deaths, she fled the life of the Huldra and took up a job as Freyja’s assistant. Her mother, who is Queen of the Huldra gets sick and Alva has to return home. She then decides to find out more about the history of the Huldra as she can survive without killing her prey, so why can’t the others? Her story seemed incomplete and had a lot of loose ties that were still there at the end of the book. I really hope later on in the series, the author delves deeper into Alva’s back story.
I have always been into mythology, Norse being my favourite so when I read the synopsis of this book and I saw some mention of Norse Mythology, I knew I had to read it! It helped to already have some knowledge of Norse Mythology. Luckily the author included a glossary for those not familiar with the Names and terms.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Just when I was hoping to read the best things for the Agneson Clan, I am left in a series of cliffhangers for each family member, and I am grieving for the deaths that have occurred. This amazing series takes place in the Viking Era around the year 880 and can I just say is full of history, love, war, mystery, witchcraft and above all historical lore that transports me to the Viking lands every time I pick up the book. Kara achieves rank and becomes a shieldmaiden but finds out that being a warrior is not at all what she thought it would be. Karl does battle with his ship Verdandi Smiles while at war with a greater navy. Sorven meets a young girl at the end of the book and has fallen deeply in love with her. But will all turn pout well for Sorven? Thorfinn meets up with the witches that he physically damaged and they are out for revenge. Will he survive the witches and their eight-legged monster? And Cub? What is going on with Cub? While Cub escaped slavery, what is he up to now? So many unanswered questions and so much adventure and excitement has taken place in this book. I cannot wait for the next book!!!! What about all the mythical creatures that have come to play in this book and the lore of the Vikings that is prevalent on every page?! A must read book!!!

Grave Digger Academy 1 was a good book, that quickly drew me in, and I look forward to book 2. It is a short book, that I was able to read in a day or 2, as I didn’t want to put it down. The characters are well written and each have their own personality, which comes through very well. I am not typically big on paranormal books, but the cover art drew me in. The author does a good job of laying the ground work, and providing the details for us to envision this world. We follow Makayla, in her first year of the paranormal academy, which seems similar to college. She applied to 3, and was denied from all but this school- which is the taboo school no one wants to go to, as it seems to be the last resort for the rejects. I was a little confused why there are grave diggers and Grave Diggers, and why they aren’t given different names…. but I hope that will become more clear later in the series. Makayla has a bit of mystery to her, and we slowly learn that she is more important than she seems at first- Made me think of Harry Potter, in the importance and history. I recommend this book and am dedicated to the series now- keep them coming!

This is book 2.5 of the Vigilant Series. I have loved this series from the first book and I strongly recommend reading them from the beginning so that you get the full story and a full picture of all the characters.
This is the story of events of what happened from the view of Rhi. Rhi is the younger sister of Emvee and Dexter and while she is mentioned in the other books it’s in this book that we really get to know her and her story. Rhi is small and people are always thinking she is weak however she is such a strong and determined character. Even though she gets annoyed at everyone assumption it also works in her favour when she starts to investigate the strange goings on at the school. However what she doesn’t realise until its too late is that the secrets she plans on uncovering puts herself and her whole family in danger.
This story is full of Suspense, secrets and lies, paranormal happenings and mysteries to be solved. Will Rhi be able to solve it and protect her family or will something happen that will change the course of all their lives.

This book is incredible. I love the action, the suspense, and the family drama. Toss in the wolves, drageur and a few other goodies and the fun just doesn’t stop. The characters are well-written. I loved how it felt like it just picked up from the previous novel. The deception scattered throughout to the suspense just makes this such an entertaining fantasy novel. You can find almost anything you want in this story as you follow the elves on their journey. That ending! Loved it! Looking forward to the third book in the series.

Grave Digger Academy is a wonderfully written YA/Paranormal Fantasy that I truly enjoyed reading. I was pulled in from the beginning and found myself turning the pages trying to figure out what was going to happen next. I’ve read other books by this author and her style of writing and attention to detail along with amazing characters make for a epic story. Makayla is fairly new to the academy system and has been denied to three she’s left with Grave Digger Academy. She’s not thrilled about it and is but trying to figure out how to dig herself out of it. She’s about to discover how temperamental corpses can be especially when they don’t want to cooperate. I highly recommend reading this fast-paced action packed story to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

Ian’s story isn’t quite what I expected to read when i first began this book. There is love and action and openness in this story. Secrets you never thought would come out. One part or a few actually caught me completely off guard I didn’t think it would come to Ian having to keep his promise to a young boy in the story. The hanger it leaves you with though makes you wanna go to the third one to see if what he seen was a true prediction. The author did very well depicting every detail and making it feel like you were there. Suspense, humor, love, sadness and a sense of compassion are all in there.

Having read Grave Digger Academy 1, I couldn’t wait to continue Makayla’s story in this book. The author continues not only to build the world but the characters, learning more about how they think, learning how to find their own hints. We start off with Makayla heading to day one of year two at the academy. Only this year is the year of the Inter-Academy Games, winning could give Grave Digger Academy (GDA) some of its prestige back, but losing could lead to the doors being closed for good. Once again, she doesn’t have a slip that tells her where to go to find the portal to her school, so she returns to the library, the place she found it in year one.
Having found a second portal in the library she is surprised to find out from the Headmistress that the year two portal is in the gym and shouldn’t have been able to return through the same place as last year. Confused Makayla and two of her classmates arrive at the school confused about being summoned a week early, during year one orientation week. Quickly it is apparent on why they have returned early; the Headmistress has signed Makayla and her classmates up as the team for GDA in the games. With one major catch, agreeing Makayla would be allowed to visit the town, and hang out with her friends as she pleases, disagreeing would result in the school being locked down with guards and new instructors turning GDA into a prison. Seeing no choice in the decision Makayla and her classmates agree and begin year two. Professor Snailime is a year two instructor; his class is intended to teach the students how to nurture and strengthen their bond with their “helpers” they found in book one. When Makayla states that she has two helpers and that they are a dragon and a gargoyle Snailime refuses to believe her, forcing her class to do the “camping” trip once more with Miss Tallen. Returning Makayla has a third helper considered more dangerous by her professor than her previous two. Being sent to the Headmistress once more she is allowed to keep him but must collaborate with a magical world beast expert once she has learned more about the species of imp she has as a helper. Finally getting a day pass into the town Makayla has one goal to find a jewelry store and try and learn more about her pendant. If only she ever had luck on her side, reaching the town she suddenly finds herself face to face with two of her older brothers Caz and Tye, along with Caz’s nemesis Nami. The three teenage boys are arguing about who will be the one to take out Makayla in the tournament. Frankie makes the biggest point, the Grave Digger Academy team needs Makayla and more importantly they need her helpers, they could be the biggest factor in the games.
Just when you think you know what is going to happen next it catches you off guard and surprises you. Will Makayla and the GDA team surprise everyone as the underdogs, or will the doors close forever? I feel like I know these characters and am constantly routing for them to come out on top. Makayla’s ancestry is against her, everything is trying to lead her one way while she rejects it and sees the good in all things. I can’t wait to see what happens next in Grave Digger Academy 3, and discover what secrets are still hiding in the shadow.

I always enjoy jumping back into this series and this book is no exception. It was so easy to connect with from the moment you start reading. The characters always come to life and really make the book interesting to read. This story could be read as a standalone although I would not recommend it. Reading the series in order will give it extra depth and give you a better level of understanding. I am excited, as always, to see where this series might go and I will definitely be reading more of it.

This was the first thing I have ever read by C.A. King, and I couldn’t put it down. The world building is amazing I found myself seeing the images in my mind of similar places I have seen. Makayla is a very relatable character not only for physically looking different from her family but in her thinking. Good or bad Makayla had questions that she shouldn’t leading to an interesting first year. Makayla is the seventh born child in her family, having six older brothers, she was the only one with red hair and bright green eyes. Growing up she was always treated differently from her brothers by her family, her one hope was that she would get into a prestigious academy and would make her parents proud. On the morning of her first day at academy Makayla’s mother gives her a family heirloom, it is said that it hasn’t worked in 3-5 generations or more, the necklace refusing to even stay on her when it was passed to her, only now the clasp as disappeared the moment it was placed on Makayla, surprising both herself and her mother. The biggest fear was not getting accepted into her three choices, which would send her straight to Grave Digger Academy (GDA). Over the years it has been the most neglected profession in the magical world, despite being one of the most crucial jobs. The first lesson she learns is the difference between gravediggers and grave diggers. Gravediggers are the ones who dig the holes for the coffins, while grave diggers are those who prevent the already dead from returning. What started off as a disappointment at being sent to GDA quickly became a bigger mystery. Starting with the well-known urban legend of the seventh born in a family of witches. Immediately Makayla and her friends are invested in the thought of it being possible as the physical attributes of the seventh born were true for Makayla. For the first time she has friends but after an impossible moment she is kept from them, until the end of the semester. From the first day of classes Makayla had questions about a now illegal practice of magic, seeing glimpses of the long-forgotten academy across the graveyard flickers of light seen inside makes her determined for some answers. She is finally reunited with her friends at the end of the semester, their stories of that night filling in the questions she had only now they had a plan. Knowing a glimpse of her heritage Makayla and her friends leave with missions during the break. Accepting they will be back at Grave Digger Academy soon for year two. Cali is determined to find out more about her mysterious classmates’ pasts. Thomas is to learn more about portals from his parents. Makayla is determined to learn more about her family history. They are to meet on the first day of year two and fill each other in on what they learned during the break. I cannot wait to begin reading Grave Digger Academy 2 and learn more about Makayla’s family history and why her mother kept it secret from her father.

This book scared me but in a good way because you never knew where it was gonna take you. You’re ready for where you’re going but you know it’s gonna be something good. Book 2 takes us further into the series and is just as amazing as book 1. We get a closer look at the academy. McKayla is a force this time around and with her fellow students they are in for some games that make a break for the academy. Action, magic, and soo much of the unexpected this time around. I loved every chapter this book helps and could not get enough of the journey within it!

Break the Darkness is a fast paced YA/Fantasy that once you start reading there’s no putting it down until you’ve finished. I’ve read other books by this author and her style of writing and attention to detail bring the story to live along with fully developed characters that make you feel as if you are right there with them. I truly enjoyed reading this book. Rei is nosy and has been told it will get her into trouble which it didn’t until she met Megan. Rei was super excited to be working for the school newspaper and never dreamed she’d be using investigative skills. Things aren’t always as they seem. What will happen when she realizes her family may be in danger? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading many more books by this author.

After much anticipation when this wonderful second installment hit my Kindle I had to stop what I was doing and read it immediately. This book was filled with amazing characters, a great plot, and enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. Personally I would recommend reading the first installment just to get familiar with all of the characters and the back story, but trust me when I say that book two is just as good as the first. Personally I can’t wait to dig into book three and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

This book picks up when the new school year starts and Makayla is heading back to Grave Digger Academy! You definitely need to read the first book in the series to be able to follow the storyline. I’m a huge fan of this author and really enjoy her easy writing style. She always jumps right in to the story and grabs your attention right from the start. I love Makayla’s character and headmistress Meet. There are some unexpected plot twist that will keep you on your toes for sure! I really can’t wait to read book 3 to see where the author takes us on Makayla’s journey!

Grave Digger Academy II by C. A. King is book two in the Grave Digger Academy series. It is time for Makayla to join her class for her second year. With all the happenings of last year, and the professor still out there, Makayla needs to be on her best behavior. The headmistress has agreed to allow her to speak to her friends under the guise that she and they participate in the inter-academy games. This forces them to learn to work together and put all their differences aside. Although they feel as thought that’s haven’t truly learned magic, that focus on their individual strengths and learn more about themselves. Unfortunately, something or someone stands in their way and the bad things tend to follow Makayla. Will her helpers be able to actually help? Will her friends bother to rescue her? All questions answered thankfully! I have to say I’m quite enjoying the fast paced storytelling. It’s fun and easy to read and makes for a quick dive into the paranormal.

Another great book in this series. This is Makayla’s second year at the Grave Digger Academy and hopefully it is a good year full of magic and friendship. The beginning starts out with Makayla being dropped off for her second year of school, and it immediately is a disaster, story of her life recently. Everyone is still looking at her weird, and her professor (AKA a necromancer) is still on the loose, the only positive note, is she can talk to her friends again, even though everything won’t go back to the way things used to be. The headmistress has signed up Makayla and her friends for the inter-academy games in order to “Show” the Crones that she is not evil nor a necromancer. Will this year turn out great or will it be another disaster? Will they actually learn magic this year at school, or will they be left to fend on their own once more? I cannot wait to read book three!!!

I enjoyed getting to read the second book in this series and I am looking forward to reading the third book as well. I thought it did a great job in uncovering some of the mysteries that book 1 set up, while still leaving some mysteries for the third book to hopefully answer! At times, it did feel a bit rushed in parts, but I definitely enjoyed branching out to the other schools and meeting some other students as well. As always Makayla is a fantastic heroine, she is hard-working, but isn’t afraid to ask for help when she needs it, and has a ton of sass and attitude along with it. I loved her newest helper and thought character was extremely adorable and fit right in with her other two helpers. If you are a fan of paranormal YA books, this is definitely a series you don’t want to miss!

Grave Digger Academy II is the second book in the Grave Digger Academy series. Makayla and her classmates have returned to school and are in for a challenging year. There is competition between the academies and the Grave Digger Academy students are the underdogs. I enjoyed the further escapades of Makayla and the gang. They are learning more about their capabilities and growing into them. I also liked that there were interactions with students outside of their school. The teachers are enjoyable as well, and got a bit more time in this book. I enjoyed this book even more than the first and can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Grave Digger Academy 2 by C.A. King is a fun, fast paced, ya, paranormal read that you don’t want to miss. This series gives you a Harry Potteresque feel as you learn magic with the witch, Makayla and her unique friends.
In this second installment Makayla finds herself returning to Grave Digger Academy for her second year along with the rest of her classmates, since no one made the honour roll last year making them miss out on the coveted academy transfer position. GDA is still thought of as the lowest of low magical academies, so it is dire for the students to win the upcoming inter-academy face off or GDA will face closure. Can the students find their strengths and persevere in the trials bringing prestige to themselves and back to Grave Digger Academy, or are the cards stacked against them? What all will they discover about themselves, their competition, and the academy along the way?
This series has everything you want in a ya paranormal book such as: action, magic, interesting characters, great world building, and an interesting storyline. I’m really glad I found this series and can’t wait to read the third installment.

I just love this series. I really enjoyed book 1 and was so excited to start book 2. It was as fantastic as the first. Full of suspense and action. I read it all in one sitting, I didn’t want to put it down. Definitely recommend.

First years of school are not allowed access to areas or town, they have not been taught the art of the Grave Digger, but Makayla and her counterparts (as friends is a too strong description) are determined to find their own way. We discover as we wave through the story that there are secrets a few generations ago and this along with magical jewellery, is Makayla the one to bring back to force the art of Necromancy. Once the first years have found their familiars Makayla stands out even more. Grave digger academy was adorable and sinister all at the same time. I really liked the students and the friendships they formed all except for Frankie, she seemed abnormally bitter and cranky about her past for reasons unknown to the reader yet. She came across as a hateful, unbearable, bully to everyone. I’m very curious to know what’s up with Griffin, why he seems so mysterious, and why everyone forgets him. I enjoyed the whole story but I adored the helpers Puffer, Gargle, and little Boris, who was almost a necromancies sacrifice, and how they aided/saved Makayla. I will definitely be looking forward to the rest of the series to find out what happens next.

I enjoyed the concept of a paranormal book series surrounding a strong and witty female lead character. So I was excited to jump head first into this book. Now that I am finished, I cannot wait to read books 2 and 3.
Like most young folks, Makayla hopes to get into the school of her choice but there is always a chance of only getting accepted to the Grave Digger Academy. When she finds out that she was chosen for the inevitable Grave Digger Academy, she is crushed, and her family is heartbroken. What’s a girl to do other than make the best of her situation since she has no other options, right?
I enjoyed how easily the story flowed and found that I read this in one sitting. While I experienced this in a short period of time, I found that it packed a punch. It had everything that you need: a great plot, well developed characters, and a lot of activity to keep you enthralled throughout the pages. Plus, who doesn’t love a good story that has a magical fantasy plotline? You’ll enjoy reading through M’s progress from someone who hates the idea of attending the academy to maturing to a talented student.
I think anyone of any age will enjoy this book and be intrigued to try the entire series. I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars.

Second year in the paranormal academy world Makayla finds herself returning to Grave Digger Academy. She isn’t alone in the return for another year. The position for transfer to another academy did not happen for any student at the academy. All bodies are needed to compete in an inter-academy face off with the other academies. A loss would be devastating to the school ensuring that its doors would close for good, but a win could get them the financial needs toward the school. What would happen in the paranormal world if the Grave Diggers didn’t keep the dead six feet under?
What could be better than having the gang back together and competing to keep their school open? Something foul smelling and out of place or will these inter-academy games be smooth sailing for the Grave Digger students?
This read was just as exciting as book 1! I flew through the story in just one sitting. It was good to continue on with Makayla and the other students in this second installment of the series. I cannot wait to continue on with book 3.
