Nite Fire: Smoke & Mirrors by C. L. Schneider – Review by Lorrene Huisman

Smoke & Mirrors (Nite Fire #3)Smoke & Mirrors by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love this series with a passion! I can not get enough of this book series, Dahlia is a wonderful heroine and I really admire her for all she is. This book I really enjoyed in the series thus far for how the development as well as the darkness hidden in Dahlia was. It was gripping and deep down that rabbit hole!

Dahlia once again has something to unravel, and knowing her, you know for a fact she has a plan in some form up her sleeve. I loved her interactions with Alex. They really made a great duo and love what they have between them, if its friends or more, depending how you look into it. I love how every book Dahlia has danger to over come, but for me this one was different than the rest. This specific installment I found we got a more deeper sense of who Dahlia was and all she keeps hidden, her demons mean. If her secrets was found out what would that mean for her, and her place she has learned to call home?

As said this book series is amazing, and it really gets better and better and deeper with each book I read about Dahlia. The danger and the shapeshifter essence of the book really drives my soul deeper into the plot. I can never get enough, I always want more answers. I find Dahlia awakens that part of me. No matter the danger or if a sacrifice or some part of her to say, she will not rest to she achieved what she has sent herself out to do. The story is gripping and this book ,currently is my favorite so far in the series!

If you have not read this book or this series yet I highly recommend you do so! I love this series and this author with a passion. I love how each book in this series builds up more and more, and your interest never dies down. Highly recommend the book, series, and author. A must read for sure!

Secrets are a dragon’s best friend. Deception is a close second. Both provide a sturdy armor, allowing half-dragon shapeshifter, Dahlia Nite, to live undetected among the humans. Walking in two worlds, belonging in neither, she wraps herself in a shroud of lies to hide in plain sight. But nothing stays hidden forever.

When dismembered bodies of multiple species are dumped on the riverbank, the case falls to Dahlia and Detective Alex Creed. Backed by Sentinel City’s new task force, the pair find themselves urged along by clues that seem too good to be true. Bouncing from one crime scene to the next, they hunt for a clear motive in a murky sea of conflicting evidence. Already on edge from the recent string of unexplained crimes, the city begins to unravel.
Drowning in missing creatures, slaughtered remains, masked men—and the search for her sidekick’s missing sister—Dahlia burns the candle at both ends. Seeking answers, she employs her empathic abilities, and uncovers something deeper and more sinister than a simple serial killer’s web. As the dots connect, and worlds collide, she struggles to shields her friends from the truth. But secrets can be deadly. And Dahlia’s not the only one who keeps them.

Flash Point (Nite Fire, #1)Flash Point by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Nite Fire was a FANTASTIC read! I am so impressed! The story was original with wonderful lore, I could not predict any of it, and the main character is so relatable! Who wouldn’t want to be half-dragon and solve murders like a badass? Just the right mix of backstory with present tense. Wonderful lead-in for future novels and it was definitely NOT boring. I cannot wait to jump into the next one! I am hooked!!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Traveler (The Traveler, Book 1) by Deborah Dugan really surprised me. When I started the book, I didn’t know what I’d gotten myself into. I felt much like Tristen did when he first saw Harry and I didn’t know how I was going to get through this book. By the time I was done, I loved Harry like an old friend. Who knew that I could love a book whose main character is a spider of all things?! Well written with lovable, relatable characters; I recommend this book to Sci-Fi lovers everywhere. This story is a refreshing take on finding friendship in the most unlikely places. Clever and witty, this book left me in tears. Definitely a wonderful book to start the new year off!

Wow! Really there is not much I can fully put into words to describe the journey you go on when you read this book! When I first stumbled across this book, I was intrigued by the premise and wanted to know more. From the very beginning of the book, the author tosses the reader feet first into her world. She truly builds a world where the reader can picture exactly everything that is happening. There are so many questions and every time we find an answer more questions come up. This was an amazing story and it has a sequel I can’t wait to read!

So much happens in this story that you don’t know end game.
The traveler is this being that can take power over all.
But one human can be the savior or demise of man kind.
There are morals to this story that had me hooked.
By the end I did not know how to feel and I love it
So many different adventures go on in this story and I am telling you I may be addicted.
There is a book two and I cant wait.
Love the characters and the worlds that are created it is so creative and defined.
This is a top tier sci-FI read.

The Traveler (The Traveler, Book 1) by Deborah Dugan – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

The TravelerThe Traveler by Deborah Dugan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Traveler is an exciting speculative fiction novel. I didn’t really know what to expect when I started it, just that I was intrigued, and can safely say I would never have anticipated what it would actually be like. Totally original, and captivating!
Tristan is very down-to-earth and likes things predictable and familiar. He likes to be able to make sense of things, and isn’t particularly fond of surprises. So when the Traveler turns up, he has a lot of questions. And concerns. And panic.
The Traveler is a fascinating creature, and the more I learnt the more I wanted to know. If you’ve ever been disappointed that aliens and fantasy creatures are often humanoid, this will satisfy your thirst for something different!
There’s something Douglas Adams-y in the tone of the story, and there are similarities between Tristan and Arthur Dent. So I would recommend this book to fans of wacky stories like that! And any fans of speculative fiction looking for something new and a bit different. I would not recommend it to arachnophobes, unless you’re working on exposure therapy…
This book gets five stars from me. There’s a sequel out soon which is definitely going on my tbr list! Can’t wait to read more of the Traveler’s adventures.

While I will admit that I am not normally a Sci-Fi reader this author definitely changed my mind with this book. Our author really knows how to grab ahold of her reader in the beginning and keep them on the edge of their seats while she takes them on a wild ride. The ebb and flow of this book and its plots were both equally beautiful and I loved all of the characters. But more then loving the characters I love how she takes us almost behind the scenes and really let’s us see what makes each character who they are. This story really has it all from the power of friendship, trust, survival and so much more I just simply couldn’t put it down. So if the beautiful cover and the blurb aren’t enough to make you read this amazing story, then I also highly recommend you pick up a copy today.

This was a unique Sci-fi fantasy story. It is a story like none that I have ever read before. The author did wonders with creating their own take on how first contact with extraterrestrial happened. There were a number of ways things could have gone in the story, but many times I found that my guesses for what would happen next was not right. I was left wanting to continue reading to know what would be happening next. Had I met the Traveler in the same way I would have had a totally different reaction than Tristan. I highly enjoyed this read. I am most definitely looking forward to continuing this series. If you are reading this review and still trying to decide I would encourage you to stop hesitating and jump into this sci-fi fantasy adventure!

This book drew me in and kept me wondering! I just wanted to keep reading to understand. Honestly, Tristan’s immediate reaction to Harry was much more mild than mine would have been. My roommate would have been dying laughing at me while I cried in a mixture of fear and confusion. I have to give this author kudos for just having such a knack for showing the world she’s designed with words in a way that makes me want to know if Harry has tried to talk to me and I had the aforementioned freakout and made him leave, or if she has just created this world that is like ours, but not.

What a ride.
This story takes you’d on adventure and all the twists and turns you would find in most sci-fi books. But this story sucks you in with all the detail and the knowledge you find along the way. The main characters have great chemistry and seem to make the story complete! It was like you were right there with them!

Every now and then I come across a book that I struggle with when it comes time to sit down and review. Not because the book was bad but because the book can’t possibly be summed up by my words adequately I feel in a way that could possibly equate the greatness that is the book. This happens to be the case with this one and I just was not expecting it to say the least. I don’t normally choose the sci-fi genre to begin with but this cover drew me in and made me read the synopsis which in turn made me want this journey in my head. I am so glad I picked it up and took the chance because this is one I will be purchasing a hardcopy of to devour over and over again and love thoroughly for years to come. The vivid words and world this author builds inside this book is one I felt as if I walked in myself. She painted this world so beautifully that I felt as if I was there myself. I could see this play out before my eyes as if I could touch the colors and the elements. This could make an amazing movie in the right hands. I won’t ruin anything by sharing much more than what is already shared in the synopsis but you won’t be sad that you picked up this novel. It is one that will make you think and relish all in one sitting. What more could you ask for? I can’t wait to see what comes next!

The chronology is somewhat distorted, which, having a migraine, like the main character does in the beginning of the story, is a typical occurrence. So with that disruption of linear time, we go on a self reflection for a better understanding of self. interesting concept with interesting characters and I can’t wait to continue the story in the next book.

~ My Favorite Supernatural Crime Series ~

I am so happy to have found this series. This is out of my typical comfort zone of fantasy, being a crime/thriller series. After reading the first book, “Flash Point”, I just knew I would need to read the second book in the series. And so happy that I did.

This is a perfect continuation of Dahlia Nite’s adventures, along with building the relationships around her. This series is one where you will get so engrosses, it will feel like seeing your old friends again. The author does such a phenomenal job of putting you right there with Dahlia, it almost feels as if you are a crime solving being with supernatural capabilities as well.

Definitely recommend this if you want a fun series to chomp into, and escape into the world of our supernatural crime solving hero Dahlia Nite (and her companions!!!) Happy Reading.

This was easily one of my top reads this year. While this is the second installment in this series, it can be read as a stand alone although the series Is so good I recommend reading the first one. This book mixes so many good genres including a detective thriller, meets nice cop, with a fantastic paranormal twist. The plot flows effortlessly, the characters are fantastic, and the mix between paranormal and reality is flawless. While there is plenty of serious moments in this book there are also several light moments, so the book is not to serious. In a nutshell I highly recommend you pick up this book with its strong and determined main character, and it’s brilliant storyline, you will not be disappointed.

“Friends don’t let friends be eaten by dragons”.

In a return of Dhalia our witty snarky lead heroine and her sidekick creed we return to the city to again try to save the humans from evil supernatural… and now maybe from themselves.

humans are mutating and dying unbelievable and violent deaths… but why? what’s causing this. were they always human… if they weren’t what the heck are they?

Follow Dhalia through another face paced action packed journey full of witty self reflection a little romance and a few new characters sprinkled in.

You will benefit from understanding the characters by reading the first book of the series but it isn’t required to follow the story and be ready to read it once you start because this story whips right along making you lose track of time… the hints of more to come kept me wanting more!
