Sweet Nightmares: The Dream World Chronicles Book 1 by Chynna Pace – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

Sweet Nightmares (The Dream World Chronicles #1)Sweet Nightmares by Chynna Pace
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Alex Rokosz is a fifteen year old girl who lives in Raleigh, North Carolina where she lives with her sister and her mother, that is until a tragic accident took the life of their mother and started a series of events, culminating in leaving everything behind to go and live with their grandmother, Matilda in straight after the funeral. All Alex ever wanted was a loving family, but that is the one thing she has never had, but she hopes that this grandmother whom she has never met or heard of is going to be just that, however, when she pulls up in a hearse and is short in stature and shorter in temper, Alex believes that her hopes are dashed, even her sister is unusually quiet, even for her, so it is a long and lonely car ride to their new home while her thoughts about her current situation and what she might find out from this new relative about her father and his side of the family.

When they pull up to the house, it is pitch black and freezing cold, so the light and warmth are inviting and Alex runs inside to see their new home, however, the tour is short and sharp as they are shown to their rooms, but before she can settle in for the night, she checks on her sister as she tries to keep her routine as close to normal as possible. The next morning, as Alex is getting ready to start her day in the bathroom with bleary eyes and a headache, suddenly there is a knocking on the door, but when it isn’t her sister, she panics, grabs her sister from her room and flies down the stairs shouting for her grandma because there is a young man upstairs and Alex thinks that he is breaking in. When her grandma announces that it is just Kacper, her seventeen year old housemate, Alex is shocked and when she asks why Matilda didn’t tell her, she just shrugs and says she would find out anyway, so she didn’t think it was important.

When her sister asks to go into the local town, Kacper agrees to take them, this is where they go into a couple of the stores and meet some townspeople, some are nice and others not so much, but when she tries to talk to anyone about them, she is shot down and discouraged from seeing them again. As the time passes and Alex finds everything about her new place odd, but as the events of the last few days turn over in her head and she starts to think that what she feels are normal for her family, are not necessarily normal for others, this is compounded when she follows Matilda and Kacper when they go out at night as she is intrigued by what they are doing, but when she sees them fighting a nightmare, she immediately wants to know more. Will Alex be able to make sense of the new world of magic, dreams and nightmares and her place in it, or will it all be too much and sweep her away on a course she doesn’t want? This is a fantasy adventure where nothing is as it seems and dreams and reality intermix to pull you into their world until you are so engrossed that you have to read until the end.

Journeys Through TimeSpaceJourneys Through TimeSpace by James Talisman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Journeys Through TimeSpace is the second book in the Journeys Through series by James Talisman.

After reading the first book, I couldn’t wait to get stuck into book two. This genre really pulls me out of my reading comfort zone, but it was well worth investing time into this series.
This book is filled with action, adventure, and wonderful characters. After being introduced to the concept of the ‘MultiVerse’ in book one, we are still battling to save planet Earth. It’s a battle like no other set in different times and worlds. The descriptive writing style really brings this story to life, I got lost in the worlds and characters and flew through this book.
If you are looking for something different in the scifi/fantasy genre, I would definitely recommend this series.

Action packed and intrigue that draws you in from page 1. Alex is a kick-ass teen who learns that she and her sister, Zoey, have some new powers that help with beating nightmares. Their mom has died and they move in with their grandmother. She is their father’s mother. He disappeared when they were young so they learn so many secrets and what happened. The plot just keeps you involved. You can’t put the book down because you just might miss something. Definitely a great book for the YA paranormal/fantasy fans. (Adults will like it too). Highly recommend.

Her Dark Love (Dark Spell #4)Her Dark Love by Isra Sravenheart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Her Dark Love is the fourth book in the Dark Spell series. This story takes us back to see who Isra was before she started down the dark path, and the events that set everything in motion. The insight this book gives into the character’s early years helps give the previous books more depth.
The fairy tale writing style is sometimes a challenge for me, but I like the originality.
Her Dark Love is a dark fairy tale story full of deceit, betrayal, magic, and heartbreak that will keep you turning the pages.

Her Dark Love is the fourth book in the Dark Spell series written by Ms. Sravenheart. The characters are amazing and the plot was awesome we have a few twists and turn, revenge, love, betrayal, deceit, and suspense I cannot wait to read more of this author’s work.

Lady Isra of the Dark didn’t always reside in the shadows she had a light side too as you will soon discover. This story takes us to the beginning and we find out what happened to Isra to turn her dark.

You will need to read this story to find out what happened but I do recommend that you read all the books in the series…

Her Dark Love (Dark Spell #4)Her Dark Love by Isra Sravenheart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Isra gets involved in the love triangle with her, Everilda and Jonathan. Just like most true love, it hurts when there’s a betrayal. In this case, it brings on the dark magic. Isra flips out and decides to enter the dark magic. You are feeling Isra’s pain of her first love as she is experiencing it. That feeling of revenge you get when you want to hurt them back can be mighty strong, as it is for Isra. You can feel the tug of lightness try to pull her back but that dark just wins her. During this time, Samuel and his ravens, Astrid and James, are keeping an eye on her because of a prophecy. The plot is very good and easy to read. The characters are full of personality, each one full of personality that just fits like one big puzzle. The details are fantastic. I find myself picturing something along the lines of old English castles. Love this series. Highly Recommend.

Her Dark Love is the fourth book in the Dark Spell Series by Isra Sravenheart. I was pulled in from the beginning and had a hard time putting it down till I finished. I do recommend reading the first three books in this series if you haven’t already started them as it will give you a better understanding of what is going on and help with the characters and their back story. Lady Irsa hasn’t always been on the dark side she once had a light side. She finds herself faced with having to go back to the light side before she finds herself having to stay in the dark side like everyone thinks. Find out what happens next in this absolute must read. It’s my favorite yet. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

This is a great YA book. I enjoyed this sequel and look forward to the next book in the series. There was a lot of action and excitement. The character’s really developed and grew throughout the book. Lucy is a strong character who handles all that is thrown at her fairly well for her age. This is definitely worth the read.

This book has been an experience for me. I haven’t read many Sci-fi Multiverse Space books, but let me tell you I was hooked in right away! The author takes such care building the characters up between book 1 & 2 that you can picture these three college friends (Matt, Julia, and Dan) joking around and poking fun at each other. He connects them in a way that shows you their friendship and how they handle their hardships together along their journey that it grabs you and you can’t wait to see who does what next! You don’t NEED to read book one before you read this book, BUT I really recommend reading it!!. Book one shows you so much about each character, their species, each of their journeys, and much of their training and abilities being learned and used throughout both books. I’m not going to spoil anything but I enjoyed all the details brought to life in this set. I can picture some of the scenes like they were on cavus. You can tell that the author really put time in building each character, the worlds and scenes, the spacecrafts and their technologies, and even the knowledge behind the teachings and meditations. Again I haven’t read many books of this type, so some of the space lingo I was new to, but I picked it up pretty fast and I’m so glad that I did. You will love this journey and the race to save the world and more. Will these college friends, with the help of others, save everyone in time? Will they survive all their trails along the way? Or will they fail and doom multiple worlds? Buckle up for a Journey through space and time!!

This is a complex book that you will not be able to put down. I read this book twice! The amount of detail the author was able to give readers with stories that jump back and forth was risky but it truly paid off. It had me hooked. I cannot wait to read more from this author!

The first thing that caught my eye was the cover. It’s gorgeous! After reading the blurb, I was intrigued. I had never read a book by this author so I decided to give her a chance. I’m so happy I did. The story was different than the usual vampire/ werewolf. It is a YA fantasy novel that incorporates polish folklore. I love when authors can use lesser known evils in their stories. I feel like I’m reading something new. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good vampire story but it’s a little overdone. This story was refreshing and original.

The characters are unique, some you love right away and others grow on you. For me, the villain was quite obvious but the author added a twist to it which I didn’t suspect. I found at times the author was a little too descriptive. For example, she didn’t need to describe every item in the paint store. There were a few paragraphs that I skimmed over. All in all, it didn’t take away too much from the story itself, which I enjoyed. Everything is tied up nicely at the end but still left open so the author can take us on more adventures. I’m looking forward to seeing where this series takes us.

HER DARK LOVE (DARK SPELL SERIES Book 4) by ISRA SRAVENHEART was a fantastic installment to this series. If you have read this whole series then this book really ties it all together, book 4 takes us back to the beginning of Isra’s story and gives us so many great details on how she got on this dark path. Once again Ms. Sravenheart gives us a fantastic plot, with a fairytale feel, drama, witches, betrayal, romance, and so much more. While most “fairytale” books focus on the hero Ms. Sravenheart focuses on the villain giving us a incredible and refreshing series.

The battle between good and evil continues in this second novel by James Talisman.
I do recommend starting with the first book to gain some deeper levels of the characters before diving into this one, however it’s not mandatory and I could certainly have enjoyed this book as a stand-alone.
Readers will now begin to experience more detailed layers of the power in the All That Is explored through the theme of unity vs selfishness.
I loved following the fabulous trio of main characters through their journey of self discovery. They will literally travel through periods of time on Earth to collect pieces of an artifact that will be instrumental in protecting the planet.
Simultaneously, a violent reptilian race travels through space towards Earth with a new destructive power unlike anything before. Will the trio pass the challenges before them in time to save the planet?
If you love a good sci-fi novel that will touch on some of the most interesting time periods in our history, you will love Journeys Though TimeSpace.

This is really one of those books that you think you know what you are getting into when you pick it up and then the author surprises you and you get something even better. In HER DARK LOVE we get the back story of Isra and how she came to be all about the dark heart she has now in the books we previously read in the Dark Spell series, formerly known as Her Blackened Heart. I would personally recommend that you read these books in order and before you read this one in order to really enjoy and understand things as they are intended to be enjoyed and understood. This has something for everyone who loves magic, paranormal, and fantasy. I like how vivid Ms. Sravenheart writes her novels and I am sure that you will as well as you dive into the world she has created here. I cannot wait to see what we will get next!

Sweet Nightmares by Chynna Pace is the first book in the Dream World Chronicles. This is a well developed and great YA fantasy story that keeps the pages turning. I liked how the author has tried to put a twist on this usual topic to create something new and exciting. At times I think the story needed to be pushed a little more however the whole idea is great and made for an interesting read. The characters fit the story well and they seemed to grow together.
This is a new author to me and I enjoyed the overall writing style. I think the story, and the twists, were set up well and added to the details. This was a great introduction to this author and I can’t wait to see what happens in book two.

This is the first  book in the Dream World Chronicles. It is a young adult fantasy adventure. I found the book a bit slow going in the beginning and had a hard time connecting to the characters but as the story progressed I found it an enjoyable read. There is loads of paranormal and supernatural occurances. And a shock realisation when you finally realise that nightmares are make believe after all. The stuff of nightmares actually exist.

When Alex and her sister lose their mother in a car accident they are sent to live with their grandmother who they have never met. Strange things start to happen as they realise that their grandmother isn’t all that she seems and that there are secrets about their family that they have yet to uncover.
Now Alex is set on the path to uncover those secrets and face the dangers that go bump in the night.

It was an entertaining read and I look forward to reading the next one.

I must say that I love young adult genre books, especially fantasies. I hadn’t heard of this book before but noticed in on the library shelf. The cover caught my eye, and it was a recommended by one of the staff picks for the month. I loved it. I felt engulfed in the story from the beginning as the author does a wonderful job of describing the characters and the world the live in. I love her way of using all types of paranormal characteristics in the book, especially dream catchers. This isn’t something I am used to reading about in books but was glad to see that she decided to use them in this story. I look forward to picking up the next installment in this series to find out what happens next.

Sweet Nightmares (The Dream World Chronicles #1)Sweet Nightmares by Chynna Pace
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sweet Nightmares: The Dream World Chronicles Book 1 by Chynna Pace is a paranormal fantasy book. It is the best of both worlds.

In her whole life, she has never experienced a nightmare. She has no idea that this is what makes her a fighter. Alex Rokosz, who is fifteen years old, has always yearned for a family. So when her mother dies and she and her sister are forced to live with Matilda, the grandmother they never knew they had, Alex wants to form a relationship with her and learn more about her father’s disappearance. Instead, she meets a slew of strange characters in her new home, including Kacper, her grandmother’s mysterious seventeen-year-old roommate.

When Alex witnesses Matilda and Kacper killing a real-life nightmare, things get crazier. She wakes up in a world where sleeping is hazardous, nightmares are real, and creativity is magical. She learns that her family has a deeper history than she previously thought and that her own destiny is far larger than she ever anticipated.

I loved this story and the concept of it as well. I loved every page of it. Every chapter was exciting. This is the first book that I have read from this author, I cant wait to read more.

It is a fantasy story with witches and magic, romance and heartbreaks. In this story, we learn about the backstory of Lady Isra. She was not always on the dark side; she was once on the light side. This book has helped answer some questions along the way. Just like in the past, things are not as they seem. This story was full of twists and turns. It was interesting, after reading the other three books in the series, to get a glimpse into some of the early events that shaped Isra. We are flown back to her adolescence, when she was training to become the witch she would morph into, with her “friend” Everilda beside her. Seeing the emergence of her powers, and the beginnings of her relationships with characters like Everilda and Astrid, added depth and nuance into understanding how she evolved as a witch. I enjoyed reading about Isra’s lighter side, and how those crucial formative years had such a impact on the woman she would become.

I was ensnared with interest from the first page! Written in first person point-of-view, Alex Rokosz is a character I quickly began to relate to. Alex’s mother has recently died and she is going to live with Matilda Rokosz, the paternal grandmother her and her little sister Zoey have never met before. And then there’s Kacper! A mysteriously rude boy that is a couple of years older than Alex and lives with her grandmother as well.
The descriptions of emotions and scenery in this book were detailed enough that I never struggled to imagine or feel what was was going on. The story flowed so well and the mysteries hinted to in the beginning of the book were revealed with some wonderful flair as the story progressed. There were a few moments near the middle and end of this story that I was caught on the edge of my seat, anxious to see what would happen next.
I am hands down thrilled that this is going to be a series and there will be more books in this world with these characters! I’ll never look at nightmares the same.

15 year old Alex and her 11 year old sister, Zoey, have their world turned upside down at the unexpected death of their mother. Being taken in by a grandmother they have never met, the girls struggle to adjust to their new lives. But things at Grandmother Matilda’s house aren’t all they seem to be. Matilda shares her home with 17 year old Kacper, a strange, often sarcastic teen. But when Alex catches the two of them killing, yes, killing a nightmare, she becomes part of a world she never new existed.

Full of magic, friendship, sisterhood, and fear, this book is an excellent start to the series. It is easy to read as the story flows effortlessly. The characters are likeable and have the reader rooting for them each step of the way. The world building is great, and I can’t wait for the rest of the series. This was a good YA fantasy. It has a really great plot that kept me turning the pages even when there were moments that felt really stilted. The characters and world building took a long time to develop but once things were established the story took off. The events at the end opens things up for more adventures so I am very curious to see where book 2 goes.
