This is a nice series that drew me in from the first book! I mean who doesn’t want to be a superhero?! The story really gets better and better as it goes through the books. You will learn to love some characters and dislike others. But for YA this is a delightful group of books that will engage their imagination. I highly recommend it for the person who loves to engage their brain matter and dream of new places.

I do love me some supernatural books. This is the first time I am reading this author and I really enjoyed this book. The author has such a refreshing style and a unique idea. I like how the re is a balanced amount of drama in the book. I really found some of the things that happen in the book to be quite surprising.
I really felt drawn to Friday and her character. The way that the book highlights that every super power is valuable. I didn’t expect this between her handler Jake and her to turn out the way they do. The book totally had me on the edge of my seat cause I couldn’t put it down and by the end with the twist I was totally hooked. I felt as though I could feel every emotion Friday went through and the struggles she faced. I was just so proud of her by the end of the story. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.

Just the Way You Are is a fairy tale romance novella by Allison M. Lewis. I love the message behind the story, but I was hoping for more of a triumph of overcoming adversity for the main character. Misty is a disabled princess who longs to see the outside world and fall in love with a prince. Her parents don’t want the monarchy to look weak so they keep her in a tower. Misty plans to sneak out and make the most of her life. The plot is short and sweet. It would make a perfect bedtime story.

This is one of the books where one celebrates the author more than the book itself. The book is about a princess on wheel chair, Misty miles who is locked in her room and has limited exposure to the world. Her parents love her but fear about her safety because of her disability. But Misty is determined to follow her heart and win the love of her prince charming, Derrick, heir in line of the neighboring kingdom. Things are not rosy between both the kingdoms because of a past rivalry. Despite all these challenges, she runs away from her castle one day to meet a troll who has magical powers. The troll grants her a wish to make her walk for three full days, but demands something very dangerous in return, which could put both the kingdoms in peril. The troll connives and tricks her to put her tiara at stake. The tiara has magical powers with which the troll can control the kingdom. Unknowingly, Misty trades the tiara for her new power and heads off to the neighboring kingdom in full gusto. She manages to meet the prince and also charm him. She also meets a young orphan with a disability and wishes to adopt her. As things were almost going as planned, the troll intervenes and sticks her evil head out. The two kings come face to face and the age-old rivalry surfaces back. Now it is up to both Misty and the orphan girl Kara, both disabled people, to face the troll and also bring an end to the rivalry between both the kingdoms. The book is a very breezy and enjoyable read. There are certain places where I did wish few more characters would have added more flavor to the book. It also follows a stereotypical Disney romance story. But as I said earlier, this is one of the books where we have to celebrate the author more than the story itself. The author, Allison M. Boot is a person with disability herself and has resolved to write books where the protagonists are disabled yet strong willed. The main message that is conveyed through her books is that their disability shouldn’t be a blocking factor for the lives they choose to lead and the dreams they dare to pursue. And that objective is definitely achieved through this book. Misty Miles, the heroine of the book, comes across as a very strong resolved heroine who is not afraid to take on challenges. Her dreams are not inhibited by the fact that she is disabled. She sometimes takes rash decisions but when is not afraid to face the consequences of her own actions. She takes full accountability of her flaws and tries to correct them. I am sure Misty Miles is a symbolic personification of the traits of the author herself. These are all qualities which have to be lauded and learnt by all of us. Keep it coming Allison M. Boot. Take a bow for what you are and what you aim to achieve!

This is a lovely modern day fairytale with a difference, in that the main character, the princess Misty Miles has a disability. Misty is the the princess of a faraway land known as Starryton and for twenty one years she has been in a tower and her disability and her wheelchair have been hidden from the kingdom. Her parents are worried that the monarchy will look weak and even though her parents have hidden her away to protect her it has left Misty feeling that she is unable to do anything. Misty’s Prince Charming, Derrick Denison is the prince of the neighbouring kingdom of Mooncrest and he’s a gifted dancer. Misty and Derrick have not actually ever met. To make things more complicated there has been a long running feud between Misty and Derrick’s families. The conflict caused the once beloved kingdom of Starrycrest to break apart into two separate kingdoms. Having realised that she must take matters into her own hands Misty visits a troll, Trovella who is rumoured to grant wishes for a price. This wish sends the princess off on an exciting and dangerous adventure and in the process she battles her own self doubt and learns that she is far more capable than she ever imagined. As well as dealing with feuding families, a disability, and ensuring no harm comes to her or Derrick’s kingdoms, along the way Misty encounters a little girl with her own disability who is in need of a forever family of her own. This is a fairly quick read but the author has packed so much into the pages of this young adult story and as an older adult I was absolutely hooked from page one. I found it both a lovely romantic story with plenty of action and also an inspiring read. The fact that the main character has a disability is sadly a rare thing in a book and this in itself makes Allison M. Boot’s novel unique. The author has written about the disability with such sensitivity and honesty that she has bought disability awareness to the reader along with a wonderful storyline and likeable, realistic characters. I was very impressed with this novel and I hope it makes other readers feel as empowered as the princess becomes in the story and educates young readers that disabilities do not need to hold a person back from fulfilling their potential.

I really enjoyed reading the unique stories in this anthology. Each one transforms the original tale of Hansel & Gretel into something completely different. Each author touches on a different theme and will make you feel different emotions. Some made me laugh, while another made me want to cry. It’s certainly a ride down the rabbit hole.
Princess Misty Miles of Starrytown has a disability but other than that she’s just like everyone else. Because of her disability, she’s been hidden away for 21 years for her parent’s fear that she’d be seen as weak. Misty knows that even with this disability, she can reign her kingdom. Prince Derrick Dennison of Mooncrest is a dancer but Misty isn’t accessible to Derrick because of a family feud between the two families. Their kingdoms are broken down the middle and Misty has to do more to step up. At a price, a troll grants her wish for a price but she has to save a disabled little girl from finding a forever family. This book is a contemporary fairytale as it takes you down an action-packed adventure. It’s witty, funny, full of romance, wonderful characters and is completely entertaining! I love this story of acceptance, love and triumph.

Just The Way You Are is a charming fantasy story by Allison M. Boot. It follows the beautiful, adventurous princess Misty Miles as she attempts to escape from the tower her parents have been keeping her hidden away in for the 21 years of her life so far, and find the prince she knows she is destined to be with. Misty has a physical disability which means she relies on a wheelchair to get around, and is always accompanied by her spritely service dog Dex. A wish-granting troll enables her to walk and dance for three days – just long enough to find Prince Derrick and for the two to fall in love – but the troll neglects to mention the darker consequences of the wish. As well as fighting a troll, Misty and Derrick must overcome the longstanding rivalry between their two families, which divided the once unified kingdom in two. The pair have a lot to do, and it’s a good thing that they are both very diplomatic and confident. This is an enchanting story. I loved the descriptions of food and clothes, as well as the magical dance scenes. It’s a wonderful fairytale for modern readers. For me, it’s a five-star read and I would definitely recommend it to teenagers and young adults who enjoy stories with princesses, magic and cute animals.

I loved this collection of stories all with a different take on the classic story of Hansel and Gretel. My two favourites are The Witch In the Woods by Amy Allen and The Surface by CeeCee Elaine.
The Witch in the Woods turns the story of Hansel and Gretel around. So instead of focusing on the children, it focuses on the story of the “witch”. Morgause is a Fae who is sent to the human realm with twin babies, one boy and one girl on the orders of the king. What she didnt realise was that this was all a lie made up by the kings son to get rid of her. But that wasnt the whole story. She is left on earth keeping watch over the children Cory and Sydni, getting more angry at her situation as the years wear on. Until King Bayard comes to see her and the true story about his love for her and the children comes to light. As the children grow will they embrace their true parent and their home in the Fae realm or will they want to stay in the human realm with parents who don’t care for them. It is a story full of lies and deceit but with happiness and love at the end.
The Surface is a completely different story and one i wasnt expecting, even though i enjoyed it.
There is a virus killing people on the surface so all the survivers go to live in a bunker underground. Among them are Hansel and Gretel. Hansel is taken in after his mother and father pass away from the virus and Gretel was found wandering alone, lost and naked with no family.
They form a relationship but things arent right Gretel isnt what she seems and the love they share will be the undoing of Hansel. Its a gripping horror story that keeps you guessing all the way through.
This box set was really good and i enjoyed reading it during my long weekend. The books in this box set are part of the Hero High series and the names of the books are Denial, Anger, Bargaining. These books are fantasy and they drop us smack dab into a supernatural world. Friday is our main character and she is pretty awesome. She is supernaturally gifted and she is training at a special university. There is romance, suspense, and alot of action. I really enjoyed this set and i am looking forward to reading more by this author in the future! Happy Reading!!

Hero High: Figure In The Flames by Mina Chara. This series has captured a bit of my heart, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved this set not because it’s written poorly or anything but because it’s not my first reading type. But this author knows how to capture readers and keep us coming back for more. The characters are complex and relatable while taking you on an incredible journey. There’s definitely times I lost track of book world and real world. I had a hard time putting any of these away to join the real world again. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. Each book gets better and better. I’m anxious to see where the author takes readers next. Four stars and highly recommended!

Hansel and Gretal (Down the Rabbit Hole) Anthology 4 Stars
I’ve always loved fairytales. The authors in this anthology definitely wrote their own version of this classic. There is a bit of everything in these stories so they should satisfy most readers. I prefer stories that have a twist with some horror therefore these were my favourites.
The Surface by CeeCee Elaine
This leans towards a dystopian vibe. Most of mankind has died off because of an airborne virus. Two people escape an underground bunker and return to the surface. The story has a crazy twist at the end that you never see coming.
The Reaper Within by Jess Bagnall
A boy who has been shunned his entire life by the village grows up to be a hunter. He hunts the monsters in the forest helping the doctor with his experiments. With a twist you don’t expect, it’s definitely not a happy fairytale but it will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Shadows that Move by Lorah Jaiyn
Witches and curses abound in this story. What do you do when no one believes you? When you’re terrorized but end up being blamed. If the truth doesn’t flow with everyone’s beliefs, does it pass as mental illness? Read the story and decide what you believe.

This is my first book by Allison M. Boot. I appreciated what this book was trying to convey. More positive representation of disabilities in the media is a good thing. The main female character is – Misty Miles, a princess living in a kingdom called Starryton, which exists in an anachronistic universe that contains monarchies, movie theaters, phonographs, and trolls. She’s in love with our male main character Prince Derrick of Mooncrest. It was an interesting telling of the tragic love that needs magic to make it happen.

Just the Way You Are by Allison M. Boot, is a great book for young people. It’s a great book for any young person especially a young person that may be handicapped. Misty is such a compelling heroine. Stubborn, fearless, and tenacious. It’s a great story about you never know till you try. Good advice for any person. Just try. It was kind of a mental trap for me because my mind kept trying to put the story in a Medieval setting, but clearly it’s not but then I realized any young person reading this story will have no problem wrapping their mind around it. Just the right amount of good clean romance. This book is worth your time.

This series isnt at all what I expected it to be. This follows Friday an her at Hero High, which is being filmed as a reality show. A bit of futuristic, a bit of mystery, a bit of YA. I was definitely surprised that I enjoyed this series as much as I did! Plenty of fast paced action and laughs! You cannot go wrong reading this book series!!!

Just The Way You Are by Allison M. Lewis was a great modern day fairytale! I felt like I was being transported back in time as a little girl reading some of my favorite fairy tales in this story. This mostly reminded me of The Little Mermaid in the first half of the book, and then changed into its own story in the second half. It was well written, with great characters and a great storyline. I laughed, I cried, I felt like I was right there in between the pages with both Misty and Derrick. I can’t wait to read more from Lewis!

This is a box set that includes three books from the ‘Hero High’ series, Denial, Anger and Bargaining. The series is centred around, Friday Fitzsimmons who is one of the “One in a Thousand People on Planet Earth who have a Supernatural Power”. Friday is sent to ‘Hero High’, a school for the supernaturally gifted to train. The school is in the glamorous Icon City, a haven for all those with supernatural powers. However Hero High is not just a school for trainee superheroes it is also a reality TV show and one of many on the Hero Channel. As a ‘gifted’ student Friday has to take part in a reality TV show where good fights evil for the city’s soul. However not all the students use their powers for good, like the mysterious masked boy or the man on fire who calls himself The Figure In The Flames. Along with friend Jake, Friday struggles to come to terms with her new situation and her new powers all whilst battling her crippling anxiety. Luckily Friday has Captain Fantastic on her side. Each book is a short read but packed full of adventure, with a fast paced storyline and each book continues Friday’s adventures at Hero High. I have come to love Friday over the three books and think she is a great lead character as she is very likeable and relatable as a character especially as she battles with acute anxiety. The world building is great and thanks to the authors wonderful descriptions I felt totally immersed in Icon City and Hero High. I thoroughly enjoyed all three books and found that as it was a box set I could just continue with Friday’s story in the next book straight away.

I have absolutely loved all the inclusions of this Anthology, Hansel & Gretel (Down the Rabbit Hole). Who doesn’t love enjoying the chance to take a piece of their childhood and discover a grown up way to read our favorites. I love this book as it gave me a chance to take a moment and enjoy so many twists to a classic that has always been an all time favorite of mine. I enjoy the fact that each author has such a distinct voice that comes across and makes you feel as if you’re stepping into a whole new world with each novel. This one did include some authors that I didn’t know I was missing in my life. I will now have a whole set of new authors to discover outside the anthology and that is a win win situation for all involved. I loved all of the short reads available but the ones by Lorah Jaiyn, and Jess Bagnall, so those will be the ones I have decided to start devouring their libraries first. I look forward to seeing if this is the beginning of a set of anthologies that will make our old fairytale favorites come to life for us again. Happy reading!

Book 1 Denial Welcome to the School for the Power People. Hero High provides all the things the students need. This is a different type of school you are used to. These high school students are told what to wear, as the school provides the clothes. The students are followed around by cameras and are told who they are to date. That being the case, they are paid for this. Good or bad the money is to help out their families. That is all I will tell you! No spoilers!
Book 2 Anger Hero High is at it again. Follow along as you meet Figure in Flames and Dr. Dangerous. You will join in with new characters as the team and start a new adventure. The main characters stay in the back as they know they are being watched. Come on into the superstructure, just be careful! I refuse to give you any spoilers as I feel you will enjoy the story.
Book 3 Bargaining This is a Young Adult fantasy story. This book should be read after Denial and Anger. Bargaining picks up where Anger left off. You are in the future built around the fantasy world. By reading the in order, you will become familiar with all of the characters. You will also find growth, as Friday tries to figure out what she really wants. Remembering Friday is also still being watched and is trying to lay low.
Mina Chara has continued to keep the YA’s entertained with this series. All 3 books are fast read, with plenty of excitement. They are a must read, loaded with fantasy and adventure. Included are the superheroes, all while keeping them reading. Big props to Mina Chara for encouraging teens to read. Adults would also enjoy this series as well. I have truly enjoyed this series. I will also be looking for more, to share with my teens.

Arrows Tipped with Honey (Natural Forces Book 2) by Jean Gill. I recommend reading these in order as this one continues from the first. I was definitely pleasantly surprised by my love for this story because this isn’t my normal reading but this author really has a gem of a story here. It’s got a little bit of everything I’d like in a story and it’s very original and unique. This story had a way of coming alive right before my eyes be even the smallest details are so well written you picture everything happening as you read. The characters pulled me in completely and I was definitely a bit say when I reached the end. It’s a well written story that’s paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. I can’t wait to see what else this author has to offer because if it’s as good as these I know I’m in for a good story. Four big stars and highly recommended!

This is an amazing fairytale story with a difference. The difference is the princess has a disability. It is amazing written and is a story which puts the message across that no disability should stop you following your dreams.
Misty is a princess, she longs to see the world and meet her prince charming like every other princess. However, her parents keep her locked up for her own protection because she has a disability. Misty is tired of being stuck in so she leaves and after striking a deal she goes to meet her prince charming.
Derrick is prince of the neighbouring region. He meets Misty and falls in love with her. Even when he finds out about her disability he still loves her and wants to be with her. The only problem is their parents have been enemies for years.
Can this couple’s love overcome all the anger and bring their parents together? Can they actually become a happy family?

Just the Way You Are by Allison M. Boot a sweet cute five-star read. This was my first story by this author, and I am sure it won’t be my last, I adored this story. This was a great story for me at the moment as we are all struggling to deal with different things and this shows us that you no matter what life gives you, you can always fight back and overcome. Misty was someone who was easy to like and easy to see why she would make a great princess she was also easy to relate to despite her disability, overall this was a great story and one that will make you feel like dreams come true.

Figure In The Flames by Mina Chara filled with flaming five-star reads. Denial is such a short read, I literally started it thinking I would read a couple of pages and then start some work, but I started it and finished it and then started the work. Friday is the main character and she will make you smile, she is such a firecracker, watching her story will just keep you hooked. Anger is the second story in the setting of Icon city and its so well done, it suits the type of story and the characters well. This is the story of Friday Fitzsimmons and her second year of Hero high; she just gets more of a sublime character, watching her struggle with fitting in and anxiety, just makes the daily struggle a little easier knowing that others face it as well. This story will take your breath away, you will be kept guessing all the way through, my heart was pounding so hard at one point I didn’t realise how long I had held my breath, but I was so swept up in the story I couldn’t stop myself. Bargaining is number three in the Hero High series and they are all so quick reads so you can read them all quickly, easily and enjoyably. Friday Fitzsimmons brings this story to life for me, I simply adore the character, there is something about them that juts keeps you on our toes, watching Friday deal with anxiety will help some deal with it, sowing them that they aren’t alone and how to recognise it. This is shaping to a very interesting and complex series that will surprise many.

5 Star Hero High: Figure In The Flames by Mina Chara I’m going to start off by saying if you haven’t read the first three books in this series you are truly missing out. Besides who doesn’t love a boxset. I devoured all three of these books ,although they are short stories the storyline kept me turning the pages. There are a few twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Friday Fitzsimmons and others are apart of a Reality TV channel where good fights evil. There’s even a The Figure in the Flames. There’s a bit of everything from action to danger to Romance. Follow along with Friday and the others as they go on this adventure. Grab this boxset to find out what happens next. I highly recommend.

Hansel & Gretel (Down the Rabbit Hole) Anthology was full of interesting stories providing a retelling of the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel. Each story had a different twist and I enjoyed how the two were depicted differently. The stories include romance, fantasy, and horror versions. A few easily caught my attention while some took me a couple of pages. My favorite story in the anthology is “The Dragon and The Phoenix” by Rachel Pudsey. I enjoyed the characters in this short story and also the creativity. This book was enjoyable and entertaining. I recommend it.
Hero High: Figure In The Flames by Mina Chara. This is a 3 book series about a super hero high school and teenagers with super powers. Friday aka Fitz is 17 years old and is not the best at her superpower. She gets mad really quickly, has a super smart mouth and just a hint of anger issues but she is determined to keep her family business afloat and then she discovers she has this superpower. Thrust into the city of Icon that is a haven for those with powers. The high school is like a tv show that citizens tune into each day to watch their own reality show where good fights evil in their city. This is where we find that some kids don’t use their powers for good but for evil like the Figure in the Flames. Trying to do everyday life like schoolwork, boys and friends and then throw in super hero training its a lot! Will she be able to save her family’s business and succeed at being a super hero or will it all fall apart right before her eyes? This is a super fast paced young adult fantasy read that you won’t regret picking up!

Hansel & Gretel (Down the Rabbit Hole) is an anthology of brilliant stories by a variety of fantastic authors. They have each taken on the task to create their own version of the classic tale Hansel and Gretel and the result is a mix of original retellings. Anthologies have never been my favourite style of book to read but it is ones like this that is slowly changing my mind. I enjoyed each and every one of these stories – they were all so different from each other but all so exciting. The books touched on a range of different topics and straddled the line of dark writing so well. Each book had something about it that made me enjoy it. There was a different element that caught my attention. The one thing I can say that all the books had was a well written story with some complex and interesting characters. This is definitely an anthology I would recommend as well as 7 authors to discover.
Hero High: Figure in the Flames is the first three novels in the Hero High series by Mina Chara. I really love this series. It starts with introducing the reader to the world of Superheroes. Specifically Friday Fitzsimmons, a first year student at the famous Hero High in Icon City. The world has changed since the first superheroes appeared. They are now celebrities, followed by cameras on their missions and fighting for popularity. The story is told in flashback with Friday recalling the tale to a writer (which is a style I really liked). Friday faces a number of trials while trying to decide which kind of hero she is going to be. Whilst also realising that not everything is as it seems in Icon City. This book has mystery, romance and action while also being funny and fresh. The main characters are (mostly) likable and as you read on you find out more about their lives. I recommend this book to fantasy lovers who are looking for something new. Very enjoyable read.
